“Chelsea are still quiet on GK position as no talks are ongoing about that for January window.”

Arteta responds to ‘strange character’ claims for White

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists he wants Ben White as part of his squad.

White is in new contract talks with the Gunners.

Arteta said today: “I think he’s progressing the right way in the last few years as you said he had a little bit of a difficult start which is normal because it was a big jump, different expectations and to play as well in different situations and positions.

“But I think it showed a lot of determination and courage to overcome any of that I think he has a big personality I think he goes with pressure really well he has a lot of quality gives different positions and he’s been a key player for us.

“We always try to keep the squad in a healthy position in any way, and the club especially are working on that (White’s contract).”

It was then put to Arteta that White was a “strange character” over his dislike of football.

The manager replied: “Yeah, and he’s a really good character in his own way and the way he is, the way he presents himself but he loves football. The way you know you don’t play that amount of games, the way he trains every day, the way he applies himself is top and we need more players like him.”

First time in 28 years, EPL match to hold Christmas Eve

Chelsea Football Club will slug it out with Wolves on Christmas Eve, the first time the division will have a match on that date since 1995.

The Premier League announced the broadcast selections for fixtures around Christmas and the new year on Thursday.

The Premier League arrived at the decision to bring forward the Match between Chelse and Wolves to Sunday, December 24 due to broadcast on television at 1pm GMT.

This makes it the first Christmas Eve game since Manchester United’s trip to Leeds United in 1995, making it 28 years since it last happened.

Arsenal will travel to Liverpool on December 23, while Manchester United take on West Ham United at the London Stadium in the early kick-off.

Manchester United’s home clash against Aston Villa has been moved to an 8pm GMT kick-off on Boxing Day, while Nottingham Forest travel to Newcastle United for the early game.

Chelsea are then in action three days later on December 27 when they host Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

Ramsdale has to work hard – Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has challenged Aaron Ramsdale to fight for his place.

The England goalkeeper admits he is worried about his Euros place as he struggles for minutes this season.

With David Raya now favoured, Ramsdale is considering his options ahead of the January market.

“He has got to work hard and try to affect the team in a different way.”

  • Arsenal win against Man City sends a message – Arteta

Arsenal win against Man City sends a message – Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admits his team sent a message to Manchester City on Sunday.

The Gunners beat the Premier League champions in the league for the first time in several years.

After losing the title to City last term, despite being top for most of the campaign, Arteta was delighted to see his side win 1-0 on Sunday.

Post-game, he stated: “Certainly sends a message to the team, keep believing in what they are doing, they are a fantastic group of players, the way they try, the understanding, the chemistry that they have between them you sense it and you need it to beat that, today again really proud, I was proud on Wednesday when we lost the game, and I am really proud again today as well to be part of that team.”

He added on lifting a psychological barrier against City: “Well, I don’t know if it was a barrier. Obviously, it’s something that we needed to go through. To beat them, first of all, you have to lose against them.

“We have to lose probably the way we lost at the Etihad, because we lost in two different ways, last season when we were the better team in the first half and then we conceded the goal after Tomiyasu’s backpass and De Bruyne scoring. But the team showed a real maturity today, that maturity comes from experiences and sometimes you need that to become a better team.”

  • Brighton goalscorers insist Liverpool draw well deserved

Brighton goalscorers insist Liverpool draw well deserved

Lewis Dunk insists Brighton deserved their 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

The Seagulls captain struck late for Brighton’s equaliser and to secure a point at Falmer stadium.

He later said: “I think we were the better side throughout and then we had a funny five minutes. We have got to be better than that. We have shown great character to come back and get the draw.”

“Sloppiness from us [let Liverpool take the lead]. I gave the ball away cheaply and they capitalised on that. We have to keep improving, keep learning and get better. After the defeat we have come back and got the draw today. It’s just that final bit that the moment. We are a little bit off.

“I think I was covering and there were others covering. We had a good 40 minutes and a mad five minutes that killed us at the end of the half. I think we did well in the second half.”

Fellow goalscorer Simon Adingra added: “It is a very good point for us today. After last match, it is a very good point.

“I think it is for the team you have to be ready all the time, when I am given my chance.

“It was a good point for us after the loss last week. The point today, in front of our fans, is good.”

  • Arsenal v Man City: Gabriel Martinelli seals late win for Gunners

Arsenal v Man City: Gabriel Martinelli seals late win for Gunners

Gabriel Martinelli scored a dramatic late winner as Arsenal earned a statement victory over defending Premier League champions Manchester City at Emirates Stadium.

A largely disappointing game was given a stunning finale four minutes from time just as both sides looked certain to have to settle for a point.

Making his return from a hamstring injury as a substitute, Martinelli’s strike deflected in off Nathan Ake to earn Arsenal a first league win over City since December 2015.

It was a moment that sparked wild celebrations and put the Gunners level on points with north London rivals Tottenham at the top of the table.

The biggest talking point until the goal was how Manchester City’s Mateo Kovacic somehow stayed on the pitch after successive late tackles on Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice.

City had the better early opportunities when Rice cleared off the line from Josko Gvardiol before Ake scooped a shot over the bar from close range.

Arsenal keeper David Raya, who had an uncertain time, was twice almost caught in possession on his line by Julian Alvarez.

But it was the home side who were elated as Martinelli, introduced off the bench for the second half, made that vital contribution.

  • Liverpool and Brighton share spoils in thriller

Liverpool and Brighton share spoils in thriller

Captain Lewis Dunk scored a dramatic equaliser for Brighton to deny Jurgen Klopp three points on his eighth anniversary as Liverpool boss.

In an absorbing encounter, Simon Adingra fired past Alisson to give Brighton the lead after catching out Alexis Mac Allister, who was making his first return to his former club.

Klopp’s side levelled when Dunk’s misplaced pass ended with Darwin Nunez setting up Salah to sweep home, before Liverpool’s Egyptian forward struck from the penalty spot in first half stoppage time.

It was awarded after Pascal Gross dragged Dominik Szoboszlai down by his collar.

Liverpool missed a golden chance to increase their lead after substitute Ryan Gravenberch, on for Harvey Elliott at the start of the second half, hit the bar from close range when it seemed easier to score.

It proved a costly miss as Dunk made it 2-2 in the 78th minute with a first-time finish from Solly March’s free-kick.

Joao Pedro then missed a late chance to win it for the hosts in the closing stages, firing over when well-placed inside the box.

  • EPL: Chelsea thrash Burnley in comeback win

EPL: Chelsea thrash Burnley in comeback win

Raheem Sterling inspired Chelsea to an impressive 4-1 comeback win as Burnley slumped to their fifth successive Premier League home defeat of the campaign.

Eighteen-year-old French forward Wilson Odobert marked his first Premier League start by drilling low and hard past Robert Sanchez to send home fans into raptures at Turf Moor.

Chelsea were disjointed for spells but were back on level terms before half-time thanks to an unfortunate own goal.

A cross by Sterling, back in the starting XI after a virus, struck the knee of Belgium defender Ameen Al-Dakhil and looped over James Trafford into the net.

Chelsea then scored three times in a strong second-half showing to take the points.

Sterling, who has not featured for England since the World Cup, won a penalty after being fouled by Brazilian defender Vitinho, which allowed Cole Palmer to score his first goal for the Blues since moving from Manchester City.

The four-time Premier League winner with Manchester City then scored his side’s third with an arrowed finish after Conor Gallagher had spotted his run.

Play restarted after Sterling’s goal before referee Stuart Attwell stopped the game as a check by the video assistant referee (VAR) for a potential offside was continuing.

However, the goal was eventually allowed to stand.

Substitute Nicolas Jackson sealed the points with a spin and finish, with Sterling once again involved in the move.

Having won at Fulham on Monday, it is the first time Chelsea have secured back-to-back away wins in the Premier League since October 2022.
