  • Alhassan, Minister who wants Atiku as president attends FEC meeting with Buhari

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Sen. Aisha Alhassan who earlier declare her support for the presidential ambition of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday attended the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the Minister had last week openly declared her support for Atiku in 2019 while insisting that President Muhammadu never said he will re-contest as president.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the meeting holding at the Presidential Council Chamber, started at exactly 11:00 am with Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and other cabinet members also in attendance.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the presence of Alhassan, who was rumoured to have summited her resignation letter to President Buhari attracted the attention of the photo journalists in the chamber.

The action of the journalists might not be unconnected with the minister’s recent remarks on 2019 presidential election.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Alhassan, who led a delegation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) team from Taraba State to Atiku later told the BBC Hausa Service categorically that she would dump President Muhammadu Buhari under whom she is recently serving as minister for Atiku should Buhari show interest in contesting the 2019 presidential elections.

Alhassan who spoke in native Hausa language in the video told Atiku: “Mr President, our father, Nigeria’s president for 2019, God willing, in your presence, today are your people who have been placed under your care for forever.”

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Alhassan’s statement has since sparked reactions amongst other cabinet members who saw Alhassan guts as an act of disloyalty to her present leader, President Muhammadu Buhari.

Governors Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun) Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna) and some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had called on Alhassan to resign as minister for declaring that she would not support Buhari in 2019.

“The minister is entitled to her opinion, but I would have saluted her if she had resigned her appointment because she cannot blow hot and cold at the same time,” Amosun said at a recent book launch in Abeokuta.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that El-Rufai in his reaction said he was not surprised at the minister’s outburst because she has never supported President Buhari from the beginning. He noted that the APC leadership had earlier warned President Buhari not to appoint Alhassan as minister.

Meanwhile, the former Vice President had also accused President Muhammadu Buhari of sidelining him after riding on his back, influence and money to become president in 2015.

  • 2019: Osinbajo disowns group campaigning for his election as President

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday disowned a group known as Osinbajo Volunteers, which is campaigning for his election as president in 2019.

Distancing himself from activities of the group, Osinbajo, through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, asked Nigerians to disregard the group, adding that he had nothing to do with them.

“Please, disregard this website created by faceless people for mischievous purposes. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Vice President,” Akande said via his Twitter handle on Saturday.

The group was canvassing Osinbajo as a presidential candidate in the 2019 election.

In a veiled reference to a former vice president turned president who was described as “clueless,” the Osinbajo Volunteers noted that Nigeria now has a “leader who has a clue what to do and (how to) turn Nigeria the beloved to the land of our dreams.”

The group featured the activities of the vice president on its website, while calling on members of the public to volunteer for Osinbajo.

It however noted that it did not receive the endorsement of the vice president, noting that it had never met him.

“Note that Osinbajo did not endorse this volunteer group. We have never met him. We are strong believers in the fact that he is the right ruler for Nigeria and must create a peoples volunteer base for him,” the volunteers stated on their website.

  • Buhari used my money, influence to become president, but sidelined me – Atiku

Buhari used my money, influence to become president, but sidelined me – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the President Muhammadu Buhari led federal government of sidelining him after helping him to power in 2015.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Atiku spoke on the Hausa Service of the Voice of America (VOA) on Wednesday. In his words: “Honestly speaking, I’m still a member of the APC; I was part of all the processes, including campaigns until success was achieved.

But sadly, soon after the formation of government; I was side-lined, I have no any relationship with the government, I’ve not been contacted even once to comment on anything and in turn, I maintained my distance. They used our money and influence to get to where they are but three years down the lane, this is where we are.

Yes, there were successes but not comprehensive success because the Boko Haram miscreants are still very active, killing our people and many local government councils in Borno and Yobe are under their firm grip. People cannot dare go back to their dwellings

This thing baffles me; I never imagined that Nigeria will fight a protracted battle with Boko Haram for five years. At a time, we fought the Biafra war, which was more complicated because of the terrain in the South but the Biafran soldiers were roundly subdued in 30 months. But here we are, fighting an endless battle with the Boko Haram and there’s no end in sight”.

On the anti-graft war, he said: “How many people were arrested, prosecuted and jailed? How much was recovered from the looters?

When we came on board in 1999, I remember we recovered between $4.5 and $4.7 billion from those that looted under (the late Gen. Sani) Abacha.”

TheNewsGuru.com reports that a member of the Buhari cabinet, Senator Aisha Alhassan who is the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development on Thursday declared her support for the former Vice President insisting that President Buhari is only interested in running a single term in office.

  • Video: Buhari’s Minister, Alhassan declares support for Atiku, calls him ‘Our President in 2019’

…Says if Buhari decides to contest in 2019, I’ll still support Atiku

    …as other cabinet members kick

A video of Minister of Women Affairs, Senator Aisha Alhassan (popularly called Mama Taraba) endorsing former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar for the 2019 presidential race has gone viral.

Alhassan who spoke in native Hausa language in the video told Atiku: “Mr President, our father, Nigeria’s president for 2019, God willing, in your presence today are your people who have been placed under your care for forever.”

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Alhassan’s statement has since sparked reactions amongst other cabinet members who saw Alhassan guts as an act of disloyalty to her present leader, President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking anonymously because of the sensitivity of the matter, a minister said: “Some of us called her when the video went viral and she confirmed the comments attributed to her.

To me, I think it is like passing a vote of no confidence on your boss. I think it is untidy to write off your boss as incompetent to continue in office.”

Another source in the cabinet said: “I am not surprised; it is typical of the Minister of Women Affairs. But the ideal thing is to leave and pursue your career. This development might affect our unity in the cabinet. Some will certainly not trust her again.”

Another minister said: “She shocked me because I used to think she is closer to the President. What you cannot dispute is that the President has never hidden his respect for her. She was away from the cabinet for months when she was ill and the President tolerated her absence. She should have chosen a different approach to it because one good turn deserves another.”

A government official said he suspected “a script”. It might not be only her. Maybe she is flying a kite,” he said, pleading not to be named.

Also, an APC stalwart, who also spoke in confidence, said: “I think she is kick-starting 2019 politics. I could see cracks in the coalition which formed the APC.”

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the presidency has not issued any official statement concerning the clip.

However, a source in the Presidency said: “The President has just come back from Daura and he is just settling down. Actually, there is nothing to say.

The Minister of Women Affairs has confirmed to BBC that she made the comments. What else do you want the presidency to say?”

In an interview with the BBC, the minister said: “Atiku is my godfather even before I joined politics.” She spoke in Hausa. “And again, Baba Buhari did not tell us that he is going to run in 2019.

Let me tell you today that if Baba said he is going to contest in 2019, I swear to Allah, I will go before him and kneel down and tell him that ‘Baba I am grateful for the opportunity you gave me to serve your government as a minister but Baba just like you know I will support only Atiku because he is my godfather. If Atiku said he is going to contest.”

If because of what I said I am sacked, it will not bother me because I believe in Allah that my time has elapsed, that is why…

Baba is not a mad man like those calling for my sack. They have been sending it and spreading that if Baba sees this I will be sacked.”

  • If Jonathan were President, Dollar wouldn’t exchange for more than N50 – Uwazuruike

The founder of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, said if Jonathan had remained the president of Nigeria till today, the US dollar would not have exchanged for more than N50.

In an interview in the current edition of The Interview, Uwazuruike also criticised the Muhammadu Buhari administration for lacking the capacity to govern, saying, “APC won an election but didn’t have a plan to govern.”

He said former Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, rigged President Goodluck Jonathan out of office, adding that, “If Jonathan had remained the president of Nigeria till today, the US dollar would not have exchanged for more than N50. Nigeria will still beg Jonathan to come back.” says Uwazurike in

The MASSOB leader said the Federal Government is using the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, to destroy Biafra.

Uwazuruike accused Kanu of working hand-in-glove with the security services to destabilise the struggle for Biafra, starting with the forthcoming November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.

He added, “Nnamdi is fighting against Biafra,” Uwazuruike said. “The security agencies have seen Nnamdi as somebody with a high value that they can use. They heard him shouting on radio and they approached him and he accepted to work with them.”

He continued, “No election in Anambra State is aimed at favouring the All Progressives Congress (APC) to edge out Governor Obiano through destabilisation; that’s the only thing and it’s being arranged by the security agencies, using Kanu.”

The MASSOB founder said it was regrettable that his efforts to achieve Biafra by peaceful means were being sabotaged by Kanu who has been hijacked by security agencies and some pay masters he refused to name.

In the interview, Uwazuruike said, “I know the mansions that Nnamdi Kanu and people like him have abroad…let Kanu keep disgracing himself like he’s doing now, because I know he’s being funded and I know those funding him.”

He described Kanu’s arrest and bail conditions as a set up, wondering why a man who was released on health grounds has not visited any hospital since his release from detention.

  • Can Nigerian rats overthrow the President? By Godwin Etakibuebu

    By Godwin Etakibuebu

George Orwell, born Eric Author Blair in Motihari Bengal, India in 1930, wrote that powerful satire novel, Animal Farm, which was published in 1945. This book that has remained one of the best books ever written by any author in recent history spoke of that kingdom founded by a group of animals that needed freedom from the oppressive system of government of human beings. The kingdom created by the animals was based on equality and equity. However, with passage of time some animals became more equal than others.

It was an interesting narration about the metaphor of the Animal Kingdom as pigs and dogs later emerged as those animals that became more equal than others. Yes, pigs and dogs turned the table against all other animals in that kingdom. Come to think of it, George Orwell animals kingdom would have included predators like Lion, Tiger, Hyena, Leopard, Wolf and other killer-animals, yet it was pigs and dogs [all domestic animals] that planned a successful coup which turned the table against their equals.

Today’s exercise is not really about reviewing George Orwell’s book [Animal Farm]. It is to use this book as a mirror to view and re-identify those animals that became more equal. I was not too sure any more the names of those animals that took over the kingdom hence l had to go through the book again. I needed to convince myself that rat was included among the animals that became more equal than others. Alas, rats were never mentioned by the author in the book.

If rats were not given a place of honour in that book, how come Mallam Garba Shehu; President Muhammadu Buhari most senior Media Assistant – his image maker – would tell the whole world that “rodents and rats” overthrew the president from his office just after 104 days of absence from the office? Could it be true that the might of the rats’ kingdom in Nigeria is powerful to “overthrow” retired Major General Muhammadu Buhari from office?

Surely, I was scared on hearing the news about rodents and rats carrying out a successful “coup” against such a tough military officer with in-depth knowledge about coup plotting and execution. If anyone is in doubt, all such person need to do is to wind the hand of the clock back to the night of December 31, 1983, when the same Muhammadu Buhari overthrew the democratically elected government of Alhaji Shehu Shagari, thereby putting an end to the Second Republic.

There must not be any argument about the perfection of General Buhari in coup making or not. Suffice to know and accept the fact of his emerging as the Military Head of State of that costly venture in 1983 as enough evidence of his versatility in the coup business. Still looking at the man’s background in evaluating the claim of Garba Shehu on this “overthrow” issue, let us cross-check one more fact.

Our own Maradona; the “evil genius” himself, former President Ibrahim Babangida, the man who pronounced himself “as a perpetual coupist” once admitted that he was involved in all coups, starting from 1966, “except the one of Dimka”. Given this admission, Babangida stands tall as first among equals when it comes to coup-de-tat matters. Yet, it took this knowledgeable coup plotter 20 months of planning and analyzing before he could overthrow General Muhammadu Buhari. The need of drawing this analogy is to re-evaluate the veracity and the sanity of Garba Shehu’s claim that a man General Ibrahim Babangida found most difficult to overthtrow until after 20 months of hard labour could now be “overthrown” by “rodents and rats” just after 104 days of absenteeism from office.

My fellow countrymen [whao! Does it remind you of some broadcasts in the past during the military era?], this is one lie taken too far into the realm of absurdity. Let us come to the real issue. President Buhari was joyfully welcomed back to Nigeria from medical holiday in the United Kingdom. He was away for exactly 102 days. For the whole 102 days, Garba Shehu did not tell Nigerians what the ailment of their president was as if they [Nigerians] that are paying the bill of the “holiday” never existed. There were too many things that Garba Shehu ought to have done for the image of his boss that he did not do.

While Nigerians were thanking God for preserving their President’s life, all that Garba Shehu could do was to tell Nigerians that the only reason the President adopted working from home, as against his office, was because “rodents and rats” invaded his office while he was away and, maybe, carted away every vital files that had to do with State’s secrets in addition to serious damage done to electrical gadgets.

Was it compulsory for Garba Shehu to talk? Wouldn’t it have been a path of wisdom and honour for this man to keep his mouth shut up? Would that not have been better than what he now faces as uncultured fool? Whatever name Shehu is called as a result of that terrible blunder, l may want to come to the conclusion that he brought it upon himself. He deserves the punishment of bashing he “enjoys” worldwide for now, including Mario Puzo [the celebrated author of The Godfather plus many other books]’ verdict of “Fools Die”.

However, l will like to draw the curtain by saying that when image makers become image destroyers, then there is urgent need for the Principal to re-evaluate the sagacity of his correct judgement in the issue of appointments. There are too many wolves and hyenas in this Lion’s kingdom, as attested and affirmed by the beautiful wife of the “Lion King” himself; Mrs Aisha Buhari, to allow “rodents and rats” capture the kingdom. Or is the Lion still sleeping? I pray the Lion does not sleep for too long because of the damage being done to his Kingdom by Garba Shehu’s rodents and rats.

Godwin Etakibuebu, a veteran journalist, wrote from Lagos.

  • Kill ‘idiots’ who resist arrest, Philippines’ President orders police

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte told police on Monday they could kill “idiots” who violently resist arrest, two days after hundreds of people turned the funeral of a slain teenager into a protest against his deadly war on drugs.

Duterte met the parents of the schoolboy, 17-year-old Kian Loyd delos Santos, at the presidential palace in Manila on Monday, officials said. Details of the meeting were not immediately available.

Earlier, Duterte broke off midway through a prepared speech at the Hero’s Cemetery on the outskirts of Manila and addressed impromptu comments to Jovie Espenido, the police chief of a town in the south where the mayor was killed in an anti-drugs raid.

“Your duty requires you to overcome the resistance of the person you are arresting… (if) he resists, and it is a violent one… you are free to kill the idiots, that is my order to you,” Duterte told the police officer.

Duterte added that “murder and homicide and unlawful killings” were not allowed and that police had to uphold the rule of law while carrying out their duties.

Duterte unleashed the anti-drugs war after taking office in June last year following an election campaign in which he vowed to use deadly force to wipe out crime and drugs.

Thousands of people have been killed and the violence has been criticized by much of the international community.

Domestic opposition has been largely muted but the killing of delos Santos by anti-drugs officers on Aug 16 has sparked rare public outrage.

More than 1,000 people, including nuns, priests and hundreds of children, joined his funeral procession on Saturday, turning the march into one of the biggest protests yet against Duterte’s anti-drugs campaign.

Delos Santos was dragged by plain-clothes policemen to a dark, trash-filled alley in northern Manila before he was shot in the head and left next to a pigsty, according to witnesses whose accounts appeared to be backed up by CCTV footage.

Police say they acted in self defense after delos Santos opened fire on them, and Duterte’s spokesman and the justice minister have described the killing of the teenager as an “isolated” case.

  • ‘Nigeria moving forward because Buhari is President’ – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said on Thursday that President Muhammadu Buhari has initiated several policies that have helped keep the country on the progressive growth track.

Mohammed further noted that no amount of hatred will obliterate the solid achievements recorded by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Minister stated this in Abuja while declaring open the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC)’ Annual Lecture and 25th Anniversary celebration of the creation of the Commission.

Mohammed said that contrary to the impression being created by purveyors of hate speech and fake news, the Buhari Administration had, in a short time, recorded solid achievements under a most difficult situation.

He said despite operating with just 45 per cent of the funds available to the immediate past Administration due largely to the fall in prices of oil, the Buhari government had achieved tremendously.

The minister said that it was as a result of the efficient leadership of Buhari that Nigeria had not witnessed economic and social crises like other oil dependent nations.

“A country that has consistently produced more oil than Nigeria, despite having about one sixth of the Nigerian population, is today embroiled in the worst economic crisis in its history.

“There is shortage of food, medicine and everything, and there is hyperinflation.

“With Nigeria being affected by the same downturn in oil prices, coupled with years of monumental mismanagement of the country’s economy and the mindless and maddening looting of its treasury by rapacious public officials, why is Nigeria not in similar crisis as the country in question?

“My answer is simple: Because Nigeria has a President like Muhammadu Buhari!;’’ he said.

Specifically, the minister said that the Buhari government had brought transparency to governance, laying a solid foundation for the country’s economic recovery and growth through the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and other economic policies.

“Does anyone remember the scandalous fuel subsidies that failed to deliver fuel to filling stations? What about the fertiliser subsidies that never guaranteed the availability of fertiliser to farmers? Today, fuel queues are gone with the phantom fuel subsidies.

“Also, thanks to the resuscitation of 11 of the country’s moribund fertiliser blending plants, fertiliser is now available to farmers nationwide.

“In fact, 6 million bags of fertilisers have been delivered at 30 per cent below the market price, 50,000 jobs created and N50 billion saved with the stopping of fertiliser subsidy.

Mohammed said that despite the paucity of funds, the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programmes were being implemented, creating jobs for youths and providing nutritious food for school children.

He said the Micro-credit scheme of the programmes was providing over a million Nigerians with small loans at very low rates through the Bank of Industry.

The minister said that despite the cowardly bombing of soft targets, Boko Haram insurgency was not in resurgence.

He said that the Nigerian troops were up to the task of ensuring that there was no resurgence of Boko Haram.

The minister said that the government is also delivering on critical infrastructures like roads and railways.

“Contractors are back to work on roads across the six geopolitical zones, helping to recover lost jobs and put some money back in circulation, as part of government’s strategy to come out of this recession,’’ he said.

He solicited the support of all Nigerians to enable the country to assume its rightful place in the comity of nations and make life more bearable for every citizen.
