I’ll ensure Nigeria is restructured in 6 months – Atiku

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar says he will ensure Nigeria is restructured within six months of his administration if elected.

He said this at the PDP Presidential Diaspora Campaign Grand Finale held in Abuja.

Atiku, who was represented by former National chairman of the PDP, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, said that sufficient research work needed to achieve restructuring in Nigeria had been concluded.

Nwodo is the Deputy Director, Research and Strategy, of the PDP residential Campaign Council ( PCC).

He said that Nigeria worked better when every region controlled its natural resources.

The former Vice president recalled that existing socio-economic developments were put in place when regions controlled their resources.

“When we are talking about restructuring by Executive Order, in the first six months, this country will not be what you are seeing today.

“This has been worked out and I’m just waiting to be sworn in on May 29 and the plans will be rolled out.”

He said that Nigeria was a great country, adding that all that it required was good leadership.

“We will provide that kind of leadership,” he declared.

Atiku further said that if elected, he would rescue Nigeria from all indices that had portrayed it in bad light.

He listed his five-point agenda to include education and security, saying that he would restore security to the country by nipping in the bud factors responsible for rising violence.

Earlier, Director, Directorate of Diaspora Groups, PDP PCC, Prof. Isa Odidi, had said that Nigerians in Diaspora believe that Atiku would articulate and implement the Diaspora Policy Framework to help capture, harness and channel their expertise to the country.

“Atiku’s government will do more to remove obstacles and create opportunities for Nigerians in the Diaspora to engage in economic development of Nigeria.

“We all unequivocally support Atiku/Okowa for President and Vice President of Nigeria,” he asserted.

  • The President we all need (2) – By Sonnie Ekwowusi

The President we all need (2) – By Sonnie Ekwowusi

We need a new President who will foster the beliefs and aspirations of the Nigerian people. We need a brand new President who believes in the pre-eminence of the individual citizen and his rights-with the government his servant, not his master or oppressor. As I have constantly argued, if the Nigerian democracy must yield the so-called democratic dividends, it must have a national character, a national character that defines democracy and establishes the parameters and moral high ground in which democracy should operate in order to promote the wellbeing of the people. Devoid of character, politics and political activities in Nigeria, in the words of Federic Bastiat, French political economist and philosopher, are legalized plunder. My brother, my sister, the choice is before us. Either we choose the path of liberating principles and vote for character in 2023 in order to advance the truths and ideals which will strengthen our democracy or choose the path of perfidy and infamy and vote for a “419” person or a customs thief or a drug baron or a scallywag or a never-do-well who would hijack the political leadership once more to the ruin of our country.

We need a President with a minimum human character and integrity. We need a President who believes in rigorous and impartial enforcement of the laws of the land. We need a brand new President who will halt the on-going radical Islamization of Nigeria. Till date, conscience of the nation and daughter of Zion, Leah Sharibu, is still languishing under the iron grips of Islamic terrorists (or, maybe they have killed her) for refusing to convert from Christianity to Islam. Lai Mohammed had lied that the Buhari government would do everything possible to ensure that Leah Sharibu regains her freedom. Lai lied. We need a President who can discharge his constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and property of the citizenry. We need a President who will pay University teachers their salaries as and when due. We need a healthy President who will not squander our hard-earned British pounds in medical tourism in London.

It is in the foregoing context that the Tinubu/Shettima-Muslim-Muslim ticket is completely unacceptable. Voting Tinubu/Shettima-Muslim-Muslim ticket is tantamount to bringing Buhari back to power because both Tinubu and Shettima have vowed to continue from where Buhari stopped. Where did Buhari stop? He stopped at fanning the embers of nepotism in Nigeria. He stopped at Fulanization and Islamization of Nigeria. He stopped at wrecking the Nigerian economy. He stopped in incestuous narcissism. He stopped at wooden-headedness. He stopped at allowing the thieves in his government to loot the national treasury. Therefore the Tinubu/Shettima-Muslim-Muslim ticket is completely flawed. It is hereby rejected.

Come to think of it, Mr. Ahmed Tinubu is ontologically a good man. He is not a bad human being. For example, he is generous with his money to a fault. He is a kind man. He is shrewd and astute. He has political friends across Nigeria. He is courageous and daring. He is a “king” maker. He is an optimist. He doesn’t accept No for an answer. His net worth is said to be in the neighborhood of US 8.4 billion dollars, which greatly exceeds the net worth of Atiku or Obi. Besides, Tinubu is the commander-in-chief of bullion vehicles. He can command a bullion vehicle stacked with wads of Naira notes to come to his house, a feat which Atiku and Obi cannot achieve in their lifetime.

But unfortunately, given the avalanche of evidence constantly being reeled out almost on daily basis about Tinubu’s failing health; his progressive and incurable goofs and gaffes; his cognitive thinking decline, unsoundness of mind and general character flaws, it is crystal clear that the man would bring disgrace to Nigeria if he is elected President. He exhibits symptoms of unsoundness of mind. When he wants to say one thing another thing spontaneously comes out from his mouth. For example, in trying to rationalize his absence from the Town Hall debate organized by media organization in Owerri, the Imo State capital, the following spurted out of Tinubu’s mouth: ,“a town hall, different from “balabloo-bloo-blu-bulaba”, to the embarrassment of his listeners and Nigerians as a whole. In a video still making its round, Tinubu was shown committing another goof at the APC Presidential Rally at Teslim Balogun Stadium. Lagos. Instead of asking his followers to get their PVCs ready for the election, he slurred and said that they should go and get their APV ready. Two days earlier, the same Tinubu looked at Senator Omo-Agege and told him that he was a fit and proper person to be the next governor of Delta State, a non-existing State in Nigeria. The deduction from Tinubu’s progressive memory failure, unsoundness of mind, and cognitive thinking decline is that if he is elected President he would be unable to address an audience let alone answer questions put to him. May I invite you to reflect again on Tinubu’s shameful conduct at Chatham House, London, recently. His audience asked him some questions. Instead of responding to the questions put to him he shamelessly delegated the questions to Dele Aleke, Governor El-Rufai, Speaker Gbajagbiamila, Betta Edu and co to answer for him. Does it mean that if Tinubu becomes President the aforesaid persons would be following him everywhere and answering questions put to him? You see, what this shameful conduct indicates is that Tinubu would make a disaster President otherwise how can a candidate aspiring to be elected President of Nigeria lack the soundness of mind to answer simple questions put to him?. Section 137 (1) (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria states that a person shall not be qualified for election to the office of President, if he is, among other things, declared to be of unsound mind. Therefore Tinubu is not qualified to be President of Nigeria.

Aside from Tinubu’s cognitive thinking decline, unsoundness of mind and physical incapacity disqualifying him from the job of President, overwhelming evidence abounds that he is carrying a huge character-flaw baggage. The thing is that everything about the man smacks of forgery, impersonation and fraud. To begin with, Tinubu has no past (and if he has no past, it means that he has no present or future). They can’t find the primary school which Tinubu claims he attended. They can’t find the secondary school he claims he attended. They can’t find the University he claims he attended. They can’t find his primary, secondary or University classmates. They can’t find his primary school certificate. They can’t find his secondary school certificate. They can’t find his University certificate. They can’t find his State of origin. They can’t find his identity. They can’t find photographs of his childhood. To solve this problem, Tinubu impersonates former governor of Cross Rivers State Donald Duke. He presents Donald Duke’s childhood picture as his. On seeing his childhood picture in a Tinubu documentary, poor Donald Tinubu cries out loudly: “I have seen the documentary, I have no issue with it. My issue is that my 12-year old self was used as a young Tinubu because they can’t find any picture of him when he was young”. Shamelessly, Tinubu issues a press statement apologizing to Donald Duke for impersonating him. As we speak, Donald Duke is still hoping to get justice from the impersonation. I don’t know whether his lawyers have brought an impersonation lawsuit against Tinubu. The same Tinubu impersonates Christian clerics without qualms. He recruits street urchins and motor-park touts, dresses them up in somewhat Christian clerical vestments and presents them in his political gatherings as if they were Christian clerics endorsing his candidacy.

  • 2023: The President Nigeria Needs

    2023: The President Nigeria Needs

With campaigns on-going for various elective positions in the 2023 general elections it is imperative at this time to reflect on the type of person Nigeria needs to elect to the office of President. What really are the expectations of Nigeria?

Without a doubt, Nigerians want to have a country that works; that can provide the basic everyday needs of her citizens; whose leadership is imaginative, creative and can transform Nigeria from being perpetually “a country with great potentials” to one where those potentials become a reality with actual gains and positive results in all spheres of life.

We need a President under whose watch and inspiring leadership we can change the narrative about Nigeria being a potentially great country; a President that will ignite the engines of growth which will result in actual gains and true greatness.

We need a builder who will not only position Nigeria on a new trajectory towards the realisation of her full potentials but will set the tone for the sub-national units to emulate. In 2023 and beyond the narrative must change in a remarkably different way by electing a President who can build the Nigeria of our dreams.

The only way to decide who best meets these requirements amongst the Presidential candidates is to examine the track records of each of them.

This determination can be best made not through blind emotions, anger, hatred, envy, insults or protest but by a calm, sober and dispassionate assessment of the antecedents and track records of the candidates who seek to be our President.

We have reached a defining moment for Nigeria when we must seize the opportunity to lift our country out of the throes of backwardness so that it can join the league of developed nations.

Many formerly under-developed countries like ours have since left us far behind in the development index.

We have gone past the time of rhetoric and bare campaign promises (and politicians the world over are notorious for promises not kept) but must assess each candidate by what he had done before in public office as a pointer to what he is likely to be able to do in the higher office of President.

Manifestos and debates have their place but much more important is the ability to fulfil campaign promises supported by past records.

The President that Nigeria needs in 2023 and beyond is one that can build our country to the standard we all desire and expect it to be as demonstrated, not by mere rhetoric but by evidence that all can see.

The candidate that best meets this description is, without a doubt, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu the APC Presidential candidate.

The evidence spans various spheres of what it takes to build a nation to greatness. With Tinubu, Nigeria will break away from backwardness and be positioned irreversibly on the path of development and greatness.

He proved this in Lagos when he assumed the office of Governor in 1999 by laying a foundation which his successors have continued to build upon in diverse spheres to the admiration of all fair-minded persons. A few illustrations will suffice.

    PART 2
Before 1999, Lagos used to have the infamous distinction as one of the dirtiest and most disorganised cities in the world but under Tinubu as Governor and till date the situation has changed. In spite of the challenges of an ever increasing daily migration, Lagos now wears a new look with good roads, improved infrastructure and institutions like LAWMA, LASTMA, etc, that are being emulated by many States and even the Federal Government on issues like Justice Sector Reform.

New areas of development have been opened up in the Lekki axis with beautiful aesthetics and a well-planned environment hosting the newly commissioned Lekki Deep Sea Port, Dangote refinery and an on-going international airport.

Eko Atlantic City has transformed hitherto erosion ravaged Bar Beach to a model city comparable to Dubai and other dream destinations across the world to the extent that the United States of America is building there perhaps one of its most expensive missions in the world.

Tinubu as Governor identified the best brains (something he is known for) to help him actualise his vision for a new Lagos and they gave a good account of themselves.

Today one of his former Commissioners is the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; some are Ministers and many others hold high offices in government – both elective and appointive. None of his contemporaries has achieved this.

    PART 3
With his party AD controlling only Lagos State in 2003, Tinubu through his sagacity and deft political manoeuvring transformed it to AC, ACN and ultimately APC which is now the ruling party in Nigeria – this mostly at the expense of PDP whose leadership were consumed in arrogance, wickedness and misrule, believing the fake promise of ruling for 60 years.

They were swept away after 16 terrible years for which they owe Nigerians an apology and atonement, not asking for their votes.

Tinubu harnessed the energy of the youths in Lagos by providing them with employment opportunities in state institutions established by government and private sector enterprises enabled by an investment-friendly environment.

Whereas many governors run their Local governments through Sole Administrators or Caretaker Committees in flagrant breach of section 7 of the Constitution, Tinubu maintained fidelity with the Constitutional requirement that the system of local government in Nigeria must be through democratically elected local government councils.

By ensuring periodic elections into the 57 Local Governments and Development Area Councils in Lagos State, Tinubu opened up more opportunities for youths to be actively engaged in governance thereby preparing them for participation at higher levels. One of his Local Government Council Chairmen rose to become a Senator.

By giving opportunities to youths to participate in legitimate endeavours Lagos State has witnessed a massive decline in violent crimes and other vices.

The new look Oshodi, formerly a den of robbers, attests to the success of Tinubu and those he helped successively to occupy the position of Governor of Lagos State. I can go on and on but I believe the point is clear.

His many other accomplishments are common knowledge.

    PART 4
Of all the front-line Presidential candidates Tinubu is the most religious tolerant. Amongst the candidates he scored the best grades in the University and exhibited exceptional intelligence unmatched by any of his co-contestants.

The challenges facing Nigeria today were faced by Tinubu in Lagos State, though on a smaller scale. However, by establishing a standard and laying a good foundation, Lagos has surmounted most of the limitations to become the fifth largest economy in Africa. You can imagine what Nigeria stands to gain if and when he leads as President.

This is one in a life-time opportunity for Nigeria and we must not allow it to slip through our fingers. Tinubu has the vision and capacity to build the foundations of a new Nigeria in the same way that Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore, Mahathir Ibn Mohamad of Malaysia and Paul Kagame of Rwanda pulled their respective countries from poverty to prosperity.

    PART 5
I am not unmindful of the various criticisms and reservations that some have expressed against Tinubu and I do not imagine that he is a saint. No one is perfect. Curiously, many of the opponents agree that he will make a good President but continue to rehash the reservations.

These, I dare say, no matter how well embellished they are with crude jokes, mockery, photos and videos – real or fake, are not weighty enough to deny Nigeria the benefits that a Tinubu Presidency can bring.

It is commonly said that Tinubu is not a good public speaker and is slow or sluggish in speech. When God decided to free the children of Israel from captivity in Egypt he chose Moses who was slow in speech and a stammerer. He did not choose an orator.

Despite his self-confessed lack of eloquence, Moses successfully took his people from Egypt, crossed the Red Sea and led them safely to the promised land.

Some say that Tinubu was indicted or convicted for a drug-related crime in the United States of America in 1993 but the US government issued a statement in February 2003 to say that their government has no criminal record against Tinubu.

It simply makes no sense for any Nigerian nearly 20 years later to continue to contest or contradict the unequivocal official statement clearing Tinubu of links with any crime in far way US.

To do so is to imply or suggest that the U.S. statement is false, which will be very ridiculous, to say the least.

Again, it beats my imagination that people are insisting that Tinubu must display his primary and secondary school certificates even when he has provided to INEC his Chicago State University certificate, a qualification higher than the minimum required under our Constitution.

The only logical deduction from all these accusations, even from among many who do not doubt the leadership acumen of Tinubu, is that these are all they can hang on to in their desperate opposition to his candidature.

It is the same reason they continue to bandy about allegations in the libellous TV documentary, “The Lion of Bourdillon”, for which its publisher has publicly apologised to Tinubu.

In conclusion, my strong advice and appeal to Nigerians is that they should disabuse their minds of sentiments, bitterness or hate and, for the good of our country, elect a President who can transform Nigeria, not a debating champion.

That transformational leader who has demonstrated capacity by a wide margin is Senator Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He is the President that Nigeria needs in 2023. He deserves our votes.

ECOWAS Court re-elects president, vice for another 2 years

President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Asante has been re-elected by his peers for an initial two years following an election by the Court’s five-member college of judges.

The President of the ECOWAS Court was re-elected on Oct. 13 alongside the Vice President of the Court, Justice Gberi be-Ouattara, the Communications Directorate of the Court disclosed in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

The re-election followed the assumption of duty of the two new judges of the Court; Justices Claudio Monteiro Goncalves from Cape Verde and Sengu Mohammed Koroma from Sierra Leone.

It stated that the two new Justices of the court were sworn in on Oct. 6 in Bissau by the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Community, President Umaro Sissoco Embalo of Guinea Bissau.

Justice Asante, who was among three judges of the court whose tenures were extended by the Heads of State and Government of the Community, said his re-election showed the confidence his colleagues reposed in him.

Asante said that the re-election will afford him the opportunity to improve on the performance of the previous college in order to strengthen the court’s role in the delivery of justice.

He also pledged to deepen the court’s enviable jurisprudence which has made it a global brand, particularly in the area of human rights which has become its signature mandate.

He welcomed the two new judges to the Court’s family and expressed confidence that with their pedigree, they would contribute immensely to furthering the work of the Court.

Asante assured the new judges of the Court’s determination to provide the necessary tools to ensure that they functioned optimally.

Justice Asante also commended the outgoing judges of the Court- Justices Keikura Bangura from Sierra Leone and Januaria Tavares Silva Moreira Costa from Cape Verde, who just completed their tenure.

He assured them that they will continue to be a valuable resource for the Court.

The new judges, who were appointed for a four–year term, were later taken through some administrative issues related to their tenure as statutory appointees of the Community.

They were later introduced to the staff during a meeting attended by the new college of judges and their outgoing colleagues.

Among the three judges whose tenure was renewed by the Heads of State and Government of the Community, was Justice Dupe Atoki from Nigeria.

  • What Nigeria needs now is president with scientific understanding – Sen. Bamidele

What Nigeria needs now is president with scientific understanding – Sen. Bamidele

The Chairman, Southern Senators’ Forum, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, said that Nigerians needed a leader with scientific understanding to fix the nation’s economy.

Bamidele who said this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Sunday, added that the President for 2023 should have the recipe to save Nigeria’s economy.

“The level of corruption in the country explains my personal bias for who I believe should be the next president of Nigeria.

“My understanding of what Nigeria needs now is a president with the scientific understanding of what went wrong, what is to be done, and an antecedent of fixing broken communities, broken states, and broken situations,” he said.

Bamidele who is also the chairman Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters added that if the economy was buoyant, there would be employment and a reduction in crime.

“This is because more able bodied people will survive either as business entrepreneurs or people engaged by companies or government agencies where they can build a reliable career.

“As much as possible,  we also need somebody who will have the courage to take decisions without minding whose ox is gored,  and without setting out to either protect any particular religion, tribe or group of people.

“We need Nigerians to come to terms with the fact that our search should be for someone who can help fix this economy and not someone who is coming to protect any particular religion.

“We need somebody who decisively understands what it takes to turn a nation like ours around so that we don’t get left behind by the comity of nations,” he said.

The Ekiti Central lawmaker said Nigeria was not practicing true democracy.

He said although the nation wanted democracy which was what it should be now but regretted that the country does not yet have the type of democracy it yearned for.

“This is because for me, democracy goes beyond coming to an office through a process of an election, yes, that’s the beginning.

“But the best we have had at the moment is a civilian rule which at least,  is better than a military regime,” he said.

He expressed hope that Nigeria would graduate from civilian rule it had in the last 24 years to a true democratic system where votes would count and leaders elected only through the ballot.

The lawmaker stressed that for Nigeria’s democracy to work, it should respect the rule of law which remained a cardinal element of that democracy instead of observing the rule of force.

He said that Nigeria’s democracy should enthrone press freedom, human rights and socio-economic rights as components of an example of proper democratic rule.

  • Medically fit presidential candidate needs no proof – Babangida mocks Tinubu

Medically fit presidential candidate needs no proof – Babangida mocks Tinubu

Former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu has mocked the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, that he does not need to prove he is fit to be the president of Nigeria.

Recalled that Tinubu had shared a video of himself on a treadmill on Sunday evening, debunking rumours that he was sick.

Tinubu captioned the video: “Many have said I have died; others claim I have withdrawn from the presidential campaign. Well… Nope. This is the reality: I am strong, I am healthy.”

Speaking at the Ogun State PDP Secretariat in Abeokuta on Monday, Aliyu took a swipe at Tinubu, saying “a medically fit presidential candidate needs no proof by sharing video clips on social media.”

Aliyu insisted that “Atiku is the healthiest of the presidential candidates in this country.”

Aliyu, former Governors, Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano and Boni Haruna of Adamawa had stormed Abeokuta on behalf of Atiku.

Others at the event were, a former Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Elder Yemi Akinwonmi; the Ogun PDP governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu; his running mate, Adekunle Akinlade, among other Southwest PDP leaders.

Aliyu expressed confidence that an Atiku presidency would reclaim Nigeria from the Boko Haram insurgents, bandits and other criminal elements.

  • Soludo in Aso Villa, reveals master plan to turn Anambra into massive construction yard

Soludo in Aso Villa, reveals master plan to turn Anambra into massive construction yard

…to prioritize security, power, roads, health and education sectors

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has commended Gov Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, “for the transformational agenda he is bringing to bear in Anambra State…”

Prof Osinbajo paid the compliment when the Governor visited him in Aso Rock Villa on Wednesday.

Shortly after the meeting with the Vice President, Soludo during interview with the State House Correspondents revealed plans by his administration to embark on massive action in some very critical sectors of life in the state soon.

He listed the sectors to include Security, Roads, Health, Power and Education amongst others.

Though he did not give details of his discussion with the Vice President, but he was able to admit that it was “private”.

According to the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime, the Governor confirmed to the journalists that the hitherto disturbing level of insecurity in Anambra was now being tamed by the reorganized, reinvigorated and restructured security architecture he has put in place.

Prof Soludo, according to the statement from Mr Aburime noted that, “… the State is now comparatively safer and peaceful with the security architecture
    being put in place”

The Governor used the opportunity also to commend the various security agencies in Anambra State and the citizens for their cooperation and partnership in the fight against insecurity in the State.

Commenting on his six months in office and the massive programmes especially in the areas of road, health, education, power and other critical sectors, that are presently being aggressively executed, the Soludo assured that in few months time Anambra will be, one big construction site for massive development!
