Crisis ahead: Supreme Court president loading for Nig in 2023 as grand fathers engage grand children in PDP

… political hate speeches take control

    … bullion van allegations

    …court threats reign supreme

The manifestations of political dislocations, court threats and unbridled political hate speeches in the last one week reigned supreme in Nigeria’s political landscape.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) in this news analysis will take a close look at the dangerous red signals engulfing Nigeria and how Nigeria while searching for credible leadership may end up producing a Supreme Court president in 2023.

The signals are clear and the APC led government may properly help to fan the embers of destruction to retain power in 2023 despite the stark nakedness of poverty staring the middle class each day they woke up in the morning.

First bus stop in this analysis is the oldest political party in Nigeria today, the PDP that has chosen to carry an elephant on its head at the same time searching for crickets to feed its grand children while great grand fathers dance ‘buga’.

In the next 24hours Nigerians will know whether the party will even campaign as the feelers from the grandfather party are not palatable.

THE PDP CHILDREN V THE GRANDFATHERS:

Dr Iyorchia Ayu and his men made the greatest challenge when they tagged Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, Seyi Makinde, Okezie Ikpeazu and the rest children, people even suggested that as serving governors they should be expelled from the party.

This is happening days before NEC meeting primarily designed to help cool tempers is about to to play chess game as the aggrieved parties are still boiling after torn agreements.

Ayu on the other hand poured kerosene, pms, aviation fuel and lit the bomb after the presidential primaries of PDP for simply hailing a serving Governor from the North West as the hero of the convention.

Wike and the other grandchildren decided to wage a war against the grand fathers who think they own the party and grand children cannot dictate for them even if they pour faeces on their faces.

The matter is still snowballing and it may just eventually send PDP to the graveyard.

Feelers squeezed out from an unwilling top notcher of the party by TNG clearly point out that “even if Ayu resigns the crisis will still continue because the next person that will take over is from the north.

“There are two deputy chairmen, one from the north and the other one is from the south and if you ask Ayu to go because from all indications is like Atiku wants him to remain, another man from the north takes over.

“So the bottom line is that Ayu and his men should pack and go because if they continue they will conveniently midwife PDP into another failure in 2023.

“It’s sad because Atiku is carrying an elephant on his head at the same time searching for crickets to roast to give to his children.

“By the time the elephant falls from his head while he’s busy searching for crickets then it’s all over for PDP for good.

    COURT CASES HANGING ON PDP:

From all indications, by the time campaigns commence and the grand fathers and the grand children start throwing tornadoes more court cases will become wrapper which the party will be adorning on a daily cases.

“What does it take to call the children as christened by Ayu to order and they’re are not even looking at the court cases that are flying from different corners which simply connotes all is not well with PDP.

“By tomorrow (Wednesday-Thursday) NEC will meet and if the matter is not adequately handled it will spell doom for the party.

    THE MYSTERY MAN CASE:

The mystery man case was the first to emerge and the accusation finger was pointed at Wike who later denied speculations that he was not behind it but the presidential candidate of PDP, Atiku.

Then suddenly from no where a Sunday Ndukwe claimed the suit was his own.

    THE SUIT:
FHC/ABJ/CS/782/2022, Wike and a chieftain of the PDP, Newgent Ekamon, were listed as plaintiffs. In the originating summons, the PDP was said to be listed as the first respondent while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was the second respondent. Tambuwal and Atiku were listed as the third and fourth respondents respectively.

Ekamon asked the court to determine eight points including whether the transfer of Tambuwal’s votes to Atiku in the primary was illegal and void.

He said he decided to take Atiku and PDP to court for gross violation of the party’s constitution on zoning.

The erstwhile presidential aspirant argued that PDP had over the years enshrined zoning in its constitution and observed the same for equity and justice but expressed shock that the party for no justifiable reasons decided to jettison zoning in choosing its presidential flag bearer for 2023.

The former Chief of Staff to Abia State governor said he had before the primaries gone to court to challenge the refusal of the party to zone its presidential ticket to the South.

    SECOND CASE:

Another suit by a former Rivers Commissioner, Chukwuma Chinye who was also Principal Secretary to former Chairman of PDP last week reared its head still on PDP and this time he is asking the courts through his lawyer, P .T. Akon to seek among others:

“A declaration that the removal and replacement of Prince Uche Secondus then National Chairman and his replacement by Elder Yemi Akinwumi, was illegal and breach of all constitutional provisions of the party.

“Deputy National Chairman and his exclusion and ousting from office for lawful reason or any just cause and without regards to the provisions of
Constitution of the 1st Defendant is unlawful, unconstitutional and of no effect whatsoever.

“A Declaration that in the absence and deliberate exclusion of Prince Uche
Secondus, the then National Chairman from presiding over the conduct of holding of the National Convention and on the 30th and 31st day of October, 2021, when the National Convention was held, the said National
Convention, the outcome and all matters, resolutions, decisions and steps
including the election/adoption of the 2nd and 20th Defendants as National Chairman and Members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the 1st Defendant is null and void and of no effect whatsoever by reason of it being improperly constituted.

“An Order setting aside the proceedings of the National Convention of Defendant that held on the 30th and 31st day of October, 2021 including
resolutions, steps taken, including the election/adoption of the 2nd Defendants as National Chairman and Members of the National Working
Committee as same was not properly constituted and consequently null a
    and of no effect.

The above case is fresh and is threatening the whole foundation of PDP hours to NEC that may tear apart PDP if Atiku does not drop the elephant from his head.

To be on the safer side, PDP as a matter of urgency needs to factor a way to quickly sort out these cases because some may go to Supreme Court and this could run into the elections next year.

    SUPREME COURT PRESIDENT LOADING:

The APC, Labour Party and the PDP so far last and this week had a field day distributing hate speeches across Nigeria from one event to the other.

Leading the pack is the ruling APC that has a powerful and tested media men that can apply all manners of media mechanism to get desired results.

The Labour Party was given a label of allegedly sourcing monies from abroad and the LP replied that they do not have bullion van experience with which to share money.

The PDP from the blues hammered their presidential candidate that he was a paper weight politician after they(PDP) were declared a dead party.

Too many unprintable graffiti that space cannot even contain to start taking all the hate speeches being disseminated in the name of politics.

With the plethora of hate speeches on a daily basis even before campaigns formally starts and after elections next year Nigerians should not be surprised if a Supreme Court president does emerge, after all, this APC administration has produced a Supreme Court governor.

  • Don’t disappoint us, Buhari tells new ECOWAS President

Don’t disappoint us, Buhari tells new ECOWAS President

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday received the new President of the ECOWAS Commission and his Management Team, telling them the kind of sub-regional body West African leaders desire and must have.

The president told Dr Omar Alieu Touray, the new President, and the delegation at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“I wish you success in your assignments, which we hope can collectively drive our sub-region to one that is economically integrated, politically stable, and socially in harmony with itself, to the admiration of our continent, and, indeed, global community.

“That is the ECOWAS we desire, and must have. You cannot afford to disappoint us.”

According to him, as the host of the ECOWAS Commission, Nigeria expects that the scrupulous processes that led to the new appointments “would impact on the fortunes of our Organisation.”

He said this should be in terms of ”efficient and effective service delivery that bears positive impact on the lives of our citizens.”

He added that when the founding fathers met on May 28, 1975, to establish ECOWAS, what was uppermost on their minds was the promotion of economic cooperation between the member-States.

He said this was to raise the living standards of citizens, hence driving the economic development of the sub-region in an integrated manner.

The president said: “Forty-seven years after, this core objective for the formation of ECOWAS remains critically relevant to our national and sub-regional aspirations.

”Issues of inter-state cooperation and collaboration, harmonisation of policies, integration of programmes, conflict management and security of the sub-region, have continued to necessitate the need for our solidarity and collective responses to our common challenges.”

He listed such challenges as climate change, terrorism, health issues, good governance and the sustainability of democracy anchored on rule of law and ultimately, development and progress for the citizens.

Buhari told the new Management Team that citizens of ECOWAS must directly feel the impact of the organization through people-oriented programmes.

He urged that projects must include effective advocacy around core issues of concerns to the sub-region.

“May I emphasize the importance of team-work and the necessity for the new Team to work assiduously to re-position ECOWAS in order to deliver to the expectations of our citizens,”the president said.

He said this could be achieved through a careful fine-tuning of the sub-region’s development agenda 2050, that is guided by the African Union Agenda 2063, and conscious of the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.

“With many Development Experts on your Team, I have no doubt that you will evolve appropriate partnerships and working relationships with Development Partners across the globe, to maximise opportunities for progress,” he stated.

Touray thanked Nigeria for the support she gave to the candidature of the new Team members.

He pledged that they would live up to the expectations of West African leaders, “as we are fully conscious of the priorities set for us.”

He said they would work with member-States to pursue their objectives, “and make ECOWAS institutions what you want them to be.”

Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa announced his resignation on Saturday, hours after a crowd of angry protesters chased him from his residence, as months of frustration brought on by an unprecedented economic crisis boiled over.

Hundreds of thousands of people massed in the capital Colombo to demand the government take responsibility for mismanaging the nation’s finances, and for crippling food and fuel shortages.

After storming the gates of the presidential palace, a throng of protesters walked through its rooms, with some among the boisterous crowd jumping into the compound’s pool.

Others were seen laughing and lounging in the stately bedrooms of the residence, with one pulling out what he claimed was a pair of Rajapaksa’s underwear.

At around the same time, the leader had boarded a naval craft at the Colombo port and was taken to the island’s southern waters, where he let it be known he was finally bowing to months of calls for his resignation.

“To ensure a peaceful transition, the president said he will step down on July 13,” parliamentary speaker Mahinda Abeywardana said in a televised statement.

Rajapaksa had to be extracted from his residence by troops who fired into the air to keep the crowd outside at bay.

Soon after they stormed the presidential palace, Rajapaksa’s nearby seafront office also fell into the hands of protesters.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the first person in line to succeed Rajapaksa, called a meeting with political leaders and said he was willing to step down to pave the way for a unity government.

But that failed to placate protesters, who stormed the premier’s private residence and set it alight after night fell.

Footage shared on social media showed a crowd cheering the blaze, which broke out shortly after a security detachment guarding Wickremesinghe attacked several journalists outside the home.

No casualties have been reported in the fire so far, and police said Wickremesinghe and his family were away at the time.

Security forces attempted to disperse the huge crowds that had mobbed Colombo’s administrative district earlier in the day, with dozens injured in the resulting clashes.

A spokeswoman for Colombo’s main hospital said three people were being treated for gunshot wounds, along with 36 others suffering breathing difficulties after being caught up in tear gas barrages.

    ‘Not a deterrent’
Sri Lanka has suffered through months of shortages of basic goods, lengthy blackouts and galloping inflation after running out of foreign currency to import necessities.

The government has defaulted on its $51 billion external debt and is seeking an International Monetary Fund bailout.

Thousands of people had poured into the capital for Saturday’s demonstration, the latest outbreak of unrest sparked by the crisis.

Police had withdrawn a curfew issued on Friday after opposition parties, rights activists and the bar association threatened to sue the police chief.

Thousands of anti-government protesters ignored the stay-home order and even forced railway authorities to operate trains to take them to Colombo for Saturday’s rally, officials said.

“The curfew was not a deterrent. In fact, it encouraged more people to get on the streets in defiance,” the defence official said.

Sri Lanka has nearly exhausted its already scarce supplies of petrol, and people unable to travel to the capital held protests in other cities across the island.

Demonstrators had already maintained a months-long protest camp outside Rajapaksa’s office demanding his resignation.

The camp was the scene of clashes in May when a gang of Rajapaksa loyalists attacked peaceful protesters gathered there.

Nine people were killed and hundreds were wounded after the violence sparked reprisals against pro-government mobs and arson attacks on the homes of lawmakers.

    Cricket goes on
The unrest comes at the tail end of Australia’s ongoing cricket tour of Sri Lanka, with Pakistan’s squad also on the island for their upcoming series.

Cricket officials said there were no plans to change their schedules, adding that the sport was unaffected by the political turmoil.

“The Australian Test is coming to an end and we are due to start the Pakistan series,” a cricket board official told AFP.

“There is no opposition to having the games. In fact, fans are supportive and we have no reason to reschedule.” (AFP)

The 64-year-old son of former President Ferdinand Marcos, took his oath of office as his 92-year-old mother Imelda and family members looked on.

After taking the oath of office, Marcos delivered a brief speech and called on the nation to unite.

“We will go further with each other than against each other, pushing forward, not pulling each other back out of fear of a misplaced sense of weakness,” he said.

Marcos said his administration would draw up a comprehensive all-inclusive plan for economic transformation.

He promised to address the food sufficiency issue and build more infrastructure.

“I pledged to bring about changes that will benefit all.

“I am ready for the task. I will need your help. I will get it done.

“On the road ahead, immediate months will be rough, but I will walk that road with you,” he vowed.

More than 15,000 police and security personnel have been deployed across the capital for the inauguration.

Foreign dignitaries, diplomats, and three former Philippine presidents, Fidel Ramos, Joseph Estrada and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, attended.

Ahead of the swearing-in, outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte received Marcos at the Malacanang presidential palace.

On May 25, the Philippine Congress proclaimed Marcos winner of the May 9 presidential election, with over 31 million votes or more than 58 per cent of the votes cast.

He succeeded Duterte who has finished his six-year term.

The Philippine constitution permits the president to serve a single six-year term.

Give us a credible person as next president – Orji Kalu begs Buhari

The Chief Whip of the 9th Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to present a man who is capable of fixing the country’s problem.

According to him, the presidential race is not about throwing money, stating that electorates would collect the money and still cast their votes according to their conscience.

In a post on his Facebook page, Kalu wrote, “the earliest Nigerians and presidential aspirants understand that no amount of money can buy the president of the country, the better for everyone.

“It is only cohesion and consensus among the regions that can produce a president. If you throw in money, majority of the electorates will collect the money but still vote according to their conscience.

“If money can buy the office of the president of Nigeria, Late MKO Abiola could have bought it with extra change. If money can buy the president, former President Goodluck Jonathan could have bought the presidential seat in 2015.

“I urge President Muhammadu Buhari to consider giving Nigeria a man who can give the entire country a sense of belonging; fix our economy; secure all parts of the country; take education very serious and protect his legacy”.

Lawan insists he’s running for president, says news of his withdrawal is fake

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has dismissed claims that he has withdrawn to pursue another term in the senate and his ambition is to become the president of Nigeria after President Muhammadu Buhari.

Lawan said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja by the spokesperson for Ahmad Lawan Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mr Iyke Ekeoma.

He encouraged his supporters not to entertain fear, said he was working tirelessly to emerge as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Senate President described as mischief, report that he has withdrawn from the race.

Lawan said that those who planted the report were jittery of his political popularity, regional acceptance and dominance in political space, hence they cooked the fake report to create confusion.

“Nigerians should ignore the sponsored lies by some aspirants to distract the Senate President, Dr Ahmad Lawan from his quest to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in the next presidential election.

“Contrary to fabrications against the nationally accepted presidential ambition of Lawan, we restate for the pleasure of progressive Nigerians that the falsehood trending currently in social media that Lawan has dropped his ambition to run for another term in Yobe East Senatorial zone is false.

“It is understandable that Lawan’s entrance into the presidential race to compete against 25 other aspirants has become the major discussion as his entrance has changed the political dynamics of the nation.

“The withdrawal reports are mere handiwork of politicians who are intimidated by the experience of the Senate President and his massive gains in the last few days,” he said.

He added: “The ambition to become the president of Nigeria after President Muhammadu Buhari is alive and Nigerians should be rest assured that he is in the race to win and not just to answer aspirant.

“All supporters of Lawan should not entertain fear as he is working tirelessly to emerge as the candidate of the APC.”

  • Book Shelf: Magnus Onyibe’s ‘Becoming President of Nig: A Citizen’s Guide’ for launch on Tuesday

Book Shelf: Magnus Onyibe’s ‘Becoming President of Nig: A Citizen’s Guide’ for launch on Tuesday

A development strategist, public policy analyst and media columnist, Magnus Onyibe’s book on ‘Becoming President of Nigeria: A Citizen’s Guide’ will be formally launched on Tuesday.

The new book focused on how to become president of Nigeria , written by Magnus Onyibe , a development strategist, public policy analyst and media columnist has just been released to the public.

The 357 pages, twelve (12) chapter book chronicles the evolution of political leadership in Nigeria and outlines the turning points in the nation’s checkered political history.

With keen eyes on the ethnic and religious sensitivities responsible for the mutual suspicion of one another by the multiple ethnic nationalities that make up the country, the author shines light on how Nigeria is practicing zero sum politics via rotation of presidential power between north and south agreement which has inadvertently been undermining the unity of the country and is responsible for lack of real socioeconomic progress even as it is fueling ethno-religious disharmony in Nigeria.

In the foreword for the book which is written by professor Bolaji Akinyemi, ex foreign affairs minister (1985-7) and deputy chairman 2014 National Confab, the erudite professor of international affairs makes the case that “Nigeria is not a zero -sum politics where what one gains , the other loses” And concluded that “It can be a multi-sum politics where structure and gains are shared with equity.”

The book traces the origin of the entity known as Nigeria and dwells on what should bind the multiple ethnic nationalities that formed Nigeria in 1914, such as trade and notes regrettably, that a combination of ethnicity and ‘ religiousity’ have been thwarting the progress and prosperity of the good people of Nigeria. And according to the author , Onyibe , the book is guaranteed to enable readers learn first hand how feasible Nigeria as a nation is , via the nuanced , sometimes vulgar , even coded granular details about political power play in high places in our country and ultimately guides citizens on how to become president of Nigeria.

The author recalls that Nigeria became a country after Frederick Luggard, a British merchant turned statesman , determined to reduce administrative inconvenience of leading then northern and southern protectorates of British empire , convinced the Queen of England in 1914 to amalgamate both of them into one country.

And over 61 years after independence from Britain, the much sought after transition from a country that the British founded, into a nation nurtured by Nigerians for Nigerians , has been a torturous and tumultuous journey of which only a few baby steps have been taken.

That is as opposed to the giant strides which the founders of the country had envisioned that Nigeria should have taken by now , hence they fought vigorously to secure her independence from the British colonizer in 1960.
And according to Onyibe , the book is guaranteed to enable readers learn first hand the political complexities inherent in Nigeria as a nation , via nuanced , sometimes vulgar , even coded granular details about political power play in high places in our country. In the author’s view , the ultimate mission of the book is to enlighten citizens on how to become president of Nigeria by highlighting the pre requisites for ascending the exalted office .

Remarkably, the timing of the release of the book is significant as it is at a critical period when the politics of who becomes the next president of Nigeria is occupying the right and center of national discuss.

For instance, as the incumbent, President Mohammadu Buhari is currently in the twilight zone of his two terms, eight (8) years opportunity to lead Nigeria which ends next year, (2023) the author of the book , magnus onyibe posed the following questions:
How can Nigeria elect a president who will pursue the agenda of multi-sum politics rooted in equity and inclusiveness and driven by patriotic leadership which would build upon the the foundation of progress laid by our forebears ? How can a system that eschews the current winner takes it all attitude of ethnocentric leaders emerge propelled by presidential rotation policy evolve ? Would the 2023 general elections be the turning point?
There are multiple salient points in the book, but the most striking is the fact that , of the five (5) presidents that have become president of Nigeria since independence- Shehu Shagari , Olusegun Obasanjo , Umaru Yar’adua , Goodluck Jonathan, and Mohammadu Buhari, three (3) of them -Shagari, Yar’adua and Jonathan have been school teachers and two (2) of them -Obasanjo and Buhari , are ex soldiers.

The author avers that the major purpose of the book is to share with every Nigerian , the knowledge and hope that they can become the president of Nigeria if they try hard enough, no matter their respective stations in life.
So, the likes of Dele Momodu, Omoyele Sowore , Kingsley Moghalu and Sam Ohuabunwa as well as Dumebi Kachikwu amongst others who are not professional politicians, but have thrown their hats into the ring for the presidential primaries race in 2022/2023 , should not despair.
And that is because history is on their side.

If they don’t win now perhaps because they lack the political structures and household name recognition required to accomplish their mission , they would be in better position to win the next time they contest because they can build on their past experience and exposure , as they would have chalked up some national name recognition and also build structures in the course of campaigning for the presidency in 2023.

The book also emphasis the belief that all hope is not lost about the unity and progress of Nigeria as there is a sort of convergence in the reports of the panel set up by the ruling party at the center, APC to chart the way forward, led by Kaduna state governor , Nasir El Rufai and a similar committee established by the main opposition party, PDP led by the governor of Bauchi state ,Bala Mohamed. The nuggets of wisdom in both reports, according to Onyibe have the capacity to engender national rebirth in our beloved country if implemented.

The book which is published by lnspire media services limited located at lnspire Automotive City, (Former Lapal House Showroom) no 235 lgbosere road, opposite Igbosere magistrates court, lgbosere , Lagos island , is embellished with illustrations by the award winning political cartoonist, Tayo Fatunla.
It will be formally launched in Abuja on 10th May, 2022 . It is currently on sale by the publisher via telephone no: 09077958606.

The book can also be purchased from reputable bookshops country wide and
is available to global audience via Amazon platform too.

2023: Osinbajo expresses desire to ensure Nigeria occupies pride of place, if elected President

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has expressed his avowed desire to serve Nigeria selflessly and ensure that the country takes her pride of place in the comity of nations if elected as Nigeria’s president come 2023.

Osinbajo who is a presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), said he has the requisite experience, having served as vice president in the past seven years, to salvage the country.

The vice president spoke at the palace of the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof.) Chike Edozien, during a courtesy visit on the monarch.

He told the royal father that he was in the palace, to formally inform the Asagba, of his intention to contest for the highest office in the country.

Osinbajo explained that he took the decision to enter into the contest with all “sense of responsibility having served as vice president and occasionally as acting president in the past seven years”.

According to him, the position of Vice President has exposed him to every part of the country and their peculiar challenges, noting that he was offering himself for genuine service to the nation.

Receiving the august visitor, the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof)Chike Edozien, reminded the nation’s Vice President of the need for the Federal Government to establish a federal university in Asaba, as part of measures to pacify ‘ndi Ahaba’ (Asaba people), following the massacre of it’s natives during the civil war, by federal troops.

Prof. Edozien informed the presidential hopeful that Asaba and indeed Delta State, was not insulated from the present challenges of insecurity, perverse poverty, epileptic power supply, poor economy, even as the monarch further urged him to address the issues, if elected.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who was in Asaba to meet with statutory delegates of Delta State APC for the presidential primaries, was received on arrival at the Asaba International Airport, by the Secretary to State Government, Mr. Patrick Ukah, before proceeding to the palace.
