2023: I will withdraw from presidential race only if… – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Woke, says he will withdraw from the 2023 presidential race only if the People’s Democratic Party, PDP position the presidential ticket to the north.

The PDP recently inaugurated a 37-members committee to come up with a zoning arrangement for the party.

Speaking on a Channels TV on Monday Gov. Wike said he will “abide” by whatever position the party takes on the zoning arrangement.

He, however, said he detests the suggestions that zoning should be jettisoned by the PDP.

The Governor said the position of the party’s constitution in “Section 7 sub 3c” is clear on the rotation of the presidential office.

He noted that members of the party should be able to say the truth.

He said “People should be sincere and abide to the norms of the constitution.

“It doesn’t matter because you believe that this is my time I will win let us jettison every other arrangement”.

Gov. Wike, however, said he is not running for the presidential office not on the principle of zoning but because of his “competence”.

The governor also noted that it is unfair to say the southern candidate cannot win the presidential election in 2023.

Retired U.S Colonel joins 2023 Nigerian presidential race

Dr Wisdom Osagiede, a retired U.S Army Colonel, has joined the 2023 presidential race under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Osagiede said this when he addressed a news conference on Thursday in Benin.

He said that his main focus was to revamp the economy through agriculture as well ensuring security of lives and property by addressing the current security challenge bedeviling the country.

The presidential aspirant, who pledged to work for the unity of the country, said, however, that he would not condone nepotism and favouritism in any form.

The retired officer, promised to end Boko Haram insurgency, kidnappings, banditry and other crimes within his first year in office.

“I am familiar with the problems in Nigeria and this is the right time to step in. The U.S is the best in administration and as a good administrator, I shall deploy the experience to fix the country,” he said.

Osagiede said that he was joining the race under the APC because of the numerous achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said that he plans to build on the numerous achievements of Buhari, if eventually elected as the president in 2023.

“If Nigeria is call the giant of Africa, it is not a mistake. We are a great nation, and we are all proud of that, certainly.

“However, Nigeria will have travelled a longer distance than we have today.

“Since independence, regimes have come, laid foundations, erected walls, coated the Nigerian edifice with different colours of paint and gone, but I still think the country has not been roofed yet. Nigeria needs finishing,” he said.

Osagiede also promised to tackle rising unemployment among Nigerian youths, if elected into office.

“The economy will be centered on agriculture, we will explore solid minerals, encourage innovations from the universities and the government will give short loans to intellectuals who are ready to break new grounds.

“Until every single Nigerian can afford good health, we will still be struggling.

“Good health is expensive, but Nigerians must be healthy.

“Not only should the cost of treatment be brought down, Nigerians from 2023, need to turn to a new page where health insurance for all is the order of the day,” he said.

Nigerian rapper Falz speaks on joining presidential race

Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana, known as Falz, has addressed concerns on declaring for presidency in 2023.

Falz has been at the forefront campaigning against old leaders, advocating for a better country and for the youths to lead Nigeria.

Some individuals have since asked Falz to form or join a political party alongside other young agitators and declare for 2023 presidency.

However, Falz in a podcast session with Lola Oj said he has no plans of being Nigeria’s President or any other political ambition at the moment.

According to him, all he desires is for everything to be great in Nigeria, adding that things are upside down and needs to be fixed in the country.

Falz said: “Being a President, I’ve never thought about it, it’s not part of the plans. I’m just a well wisher that wants everything to be ok in this country.

  • 2023: Group beckons on Godwin Emefiele to join presidential race

2023: Group beckons on Godwin Emefiele to join presidential race

…asks the economist to help reform Nigeria

…as another Otoge group move to change narrative in 2023

A group under the aegis of Mass Interest Project, MIP has beckoned on the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele to join the presidential race to help reform Nigeria.

Emefiele an economist of note with traceable track record of achievements was considered a beacon of hope as Nigeria is currently undergoing an economic surgery.

An economist in the mould of Emefiele fits the bill to help conduct a successful economic surgery for Nigeria from 2023.

According to MIP, who leads the ‘Charge 2023? to help combat the barrage of economic threats laced around, political captivity, poverty, unemployment, insecurity confronting Nigeria from various ends.

To this end, MIP in its trending campaign online has outlined a three-prong agenda to help catapult Nigeria from the distress of economic quagmire facing the country.

On the Trump card is improved standard of living, higher GDP/GNI and world standard healthcare designed for all Nigerians with an economist as the pilot of the Nigerian project.

MIP has put out a well planned network to galvanise Nigerians towards ensuring Emefiele accepts to run in 2023.

In the campaign captured all these maladies bedeviling Nigeria and how it must stop as a tested hand in the person of Godwin Emefiele must run for president to put an end to the ugly trends in our country.

This is just as another Otoge movement group birthed to change the narrative in 2023

In their fresh campaign trending online the group stated that:

“The political permutations ahead 2023 is already displaying the usual signals of recycled politicians that have been in the corridor of power for over two decades and those that have chosen permanent residency in Government circle.

The group birthed to checkmate these permanent residents in Government House doling out dislocated economic policies that will further sink Nigeria into total oblivion.

Stating in the viral campaign online that ” as expected, there is already tension across the country. From East to West, North to South, Nigerians are beginning to feel the heat as the political gladiators go on the hustings, perfecting their art to play the game the only they know how to play it: with ruthless efficiency.

“These are men and some women who are well-versed in political deception, intimidation, blackmail and are also experts in the arts of violence, which they readily deploy to exact vengeance or force compliance to their will and desire.

“They are also adept at making promises they cannot keep or are not capable of supporting. They have been there from the beginning: from the First Republic, the Second Republic, the Third Republic, the Fourth Republic and continued to rule the roost even up to the present political dispensation.

“Yet these careerist politicians, or political leaders as they prefer to be addressed, have continuously refused to let go, strutting their turf with magisterial arrogance, even while the country bleeds or totters precariously at the edge of a precipice. The reason for this is not far to seek: They have made it a lifetime career of appearing at every election season and contesting for every available post.

“For them, they have been ordained to rule, and rule they must. But the question is: after all these years, what has the country got to show for our much-vaunted democratic experiments? Is it a nation that is fractured almost beyond repair?

“An economy that has been ailing over the years and presently appears headed to the emergency ward? Is it the prevailing insecurity in the land and the fear of uncertainty that now rules the hearts of most Nigerians?

“But since 2023 holds bright prospects to get at the spoils of political office, there is always an army of aspirants willing and ready to join the fray. Incidentally, there are, as usual, many territories to invade, conquer, and take. From the local government, the state assembly, governorship, National Assembly, and the presidency, the stakes, though high, must be coveted and taken by force or surreptitious means. Understandably, the presidency holds the highest stake and is being keenly coveted and contested.

“This is why with months before the 2023 presidential election, the nation is already abuzz with the deafening noise of those on the campaign trail, with their different campaign trains traversing many of the cities in the land.

“As expected, the usual suspects have made or made their intentions known. That is why you hear rotation and zoning being commonly chorused at almost every political gathering.

“For now, the battleground is at the intra-party level, where vicious scheming and manipulations are clearly evident as primaries and conventions are being planned and organised to select candidates for various elections.

“As this selection, rather than election, the drama unfolds, there is already a lot of huffing and puffing, sabre-rattling in the leading political parties as different factions up the ante to undo or upstage others for electoral advantage.

“Indeed, the two leading political parties, the All Progressives Congress(APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), are presently wracked by crises due to sharp disagreements among their respective members on the choice of candidates to fly their flags during the governorship, National Assembly and presidential elections next year.

“The wranglings are particularly more intense with regards to the presidential aspirants, some of whom are already strutting the campaign trail and flooding major cities, especially Lagos and Abuja, with their campaign posters.

“But remarkably, the roll call of those who have made their intention known in this regard is dominated by the familiar careerist politicians who have been part and parcel of the leadership crises afflicting the nation over the years.

“The same set of people who have been a parasite on the country, contributing little or nothing to its development or progress.
“But the good news is that Nigerians are not sleeping. There are already strong indications that they are ready to take the destiny of the nation into their hands with regards to who gets elected, especially as their president.

“In fact, a civil society organisation that identifies itself as “Enough is Enough Nigeria” recently launched a 13-month campaign ahead of the 2023 general elections anchored on the theme: #MakeNaijaWork Campaign.’ It is expected to serve as a “clarion call to Nigerians to seize the golden opportunity to decide and elect credible leaders by registering to vote and selecting candidates based on defined criteria – courage, compassion, competence, capacity, and character.”

“But more importantly, there is already in the offing another O to ge movement, a revolutionary wind blowing across the country which specifically questions the leadership credentials of careerist politicians presently aspiring to be elected president in 2023.

“The argument is that since careerist politicians have consistently failed over the years to provide the kind of leadership Nigeria needs, it was high time to look at those men and women who have been tested and proven as great achievers in their various non-political endeavours. Here we are talking about outstanding entrepreneurs and experienced business leaders such as Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Alhaji, Isiaku Rabiu, Tony Elumelu, Atedo Peterside, Mike Adenuga, Femi Otedola, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, Allen Onyema, among several others.

“These are founders and captains of industries who have shown requisite leadership abilities in running organisations successfully, providing jobs for millions of Nigerians, and helping to keep the Nigerian economy afloat and running. The belief is that if any of these men are entrusted with the appointment of leading Nigeria in 2023, the country will undoubtedly be better for it.

  • I’ll join 2023 presidential race if… – Peter Obi

    I’ll join 2023 presidential race if… – Peter Obi

Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi says he will contest in the 2023 presidential election if his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), throws it open for all to contest or zones it to the south.

Obi, who was PDP’S vice-presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential polls, was quoted as saying this during a press interview.

A press release by his media aide, Mr Val Obienyem, quoted Obi as saying he is capable of turning around the fortunes of the country but will wait on the decision of the PDP before he declares his intention.

“All the elections that I followed in the past, the party that I belong to today, the PDP made a pronunciation and took a stand. At least in 2019 when I was involved, where I can say Atiku graciously chose me as his running mate which I remain eternally grateful to him for, the party decided that the candidate should come from the North and that was what the party decided.

“And I believe that the party owes it a duty to say what their stand is. If their stand today is south, be rest assured I am aspiring, if they say north, I can’t do otherwise or they chose the option that everybody is free, then, of course, you will be hearing from me,” he said.

The former governor, while affirming his commitment to building a better Nigeria, advised all and sundry to choose a candidate who is competent and most importantly has integrity.

“What we are looking for in this country today are people of integrity, people of conscience, people who are less greedy. Educational qualification is not a measure of integrity; it doesn’t guarantee that somebody is less greedy or that people have conscience,” he said.

“I have seen people here acquire what they don’t need. I saw it while I was serving, to fight corruption here, you need somebody who has integrity, who is not greedy, who has conscience if you have that, fighting corruption is easy, because, if you who is in charge is not stealing, you will reduce stealing by 50 to 70 per cent.

“And it is critical that you have somebody who is like that. It is not when people are acquiring lands, houses, everything they don’t need; they want to live a lifestyle that is far beyond the economy of Nigeria, far beyond their earnings, that is why the place is collapsing. That is why we have insecurity, that is why we have poverty. We need to manage the costs efficiently and these are the critical areas as you people know as you look for people who will govern the country in the future”, he added.

2023: Gov. Tambuwal joins presidential race

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, on Monday expressed his desire to join the 2023 presidential race under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Tambuwal, who made his intention known during the state PDP stakeholders’ meeting, said the decision is in respect of some of his political history.

“When the members of House of Representatives approached me to contest for the Speaker of the 7th Assembly, I gave them conditions.

“That is; as a loyal son of Sokoto State, they should consult with my leaders in the state, before I could accept their call, which they did and by the grace of God, we eventually emerged victorious.

“Now, we are here and I have listened to party leaders, women, youth and members of the PDP in Sokoto State on the call that I should initiate and begin the process of consultation.

“This is with a view to running and contesting first as flag bearer of the PDP and if God almighty blesses our effort, subsequently the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“In the name of God Almighty, the most beneficent, the most merciful, I hereby accept to begin the process of consultation to run for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

Earlier, a former deputy governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Mukhtari Shagari, called on the people of the state to always remain grateful to God for producing “good Nigerian leaders”.

“As such, after 42 years of Shagari leadership in the country, we sat down to rethink of who will sustain the credibility and leadership style exhibited by our founding fathers.

“We realised that among all of us, the most deserving is Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, and we solicited his acceptance to join the 2023 presidential race in the country,” he said.

Shagari added that the decision was taken based on general consultation across the country and the belief that if Tambuwal becomes the President of Nigeria, there would be peace, unity and prosperity in the country.

Also speaking, the state PDP Chairman, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, said that the decision to call the governor to join the 2023 presidential race is generally the mandate of the PDP supporters in the state.

Other stakeholders at the meeting included Sen. Danbaba Danbuwa (PDP-Sokoto), Alhaji Abubakar Magaji, Sokoto Assembly Deputy Speaker, and Alhaji Umarun Kwabo, among others.

According to Imumolen, who is the Vice-Chancellor, Global Wealth University, Togo, the leadership deficit, has been hugely responsible for the state of affairs in the country.

He stressed the need for a new orientation in Nigeria ahead of the 2023 general elections.

“Nigeria needs a new kind of leadership. Things are not working here because there is a leadership challenge.

“I have travelled to many parts of this country and I can boldly say that we have all it takes to make our country one of the best in the world.

“We have been looked down upon for so many years and many other nations do not reckon much with the green passport.

“What we must do now is to work hard to ensure that our children do not go through the pains we have suffered already.

“We believe in our time, Nigeria will be a better place. Nigeria is rich but it is crippled because it is kept in the pockets of few connected individuals,” he said.

The entrepreneur, who pledged to change the fortunes of Nigeria for good, said that he possessed the required qualities and capacity to lead Nigeria to a level it could start competing with advanced nations of the world.

Imumolen, who attributed unemployment as one of the major causes of criminality threatening the peace of Nigeria, pledged to address the cause of insecurity and poverty if given the opportunity.

“How can a country prosper without adequate welfare for her citizens? How do we expect our country to be respected when we are seen and rightly so as the poverty capital of the world?,” he asked.

He called on Nigeria youths not to allow themselves to be used by selfish politicians in the 2023 general elections, saying “lets us resolve never to travel the old path again.l

“In 2023, let’s vote a leadership that will change this country for good so that all of us will be proud to call ourselves Nigerians. Nigeria will be great again,” he said.

Fielding question on the platform, he intends to run for the Office of the President, Imumolen said that the platform would be revealed soon.

“It is not about the party on which platform I will run. If you believe you cannot do it, you will leave room for those who can’t do it to hijack the process.

“Of course, I am going to run on the platform of a political party but that will be made known in due course,” he said.

Osinbajo yet to declare interest in 2023 presidential race – Aide

The Office of the Vice President says permutations around 2023 presidential race is a distraction as Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has not declared interest to contest.

Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement on Monday in Abuja, said the Office of the Vice President had no connection with an online attempt to rally support for Osinbajo.

“The attention of the Office of the Vice President has been drawn to a website: supportosinbajo.ng that is calling on Nigerians to join a volunteer group mobilising support for Osinbajo ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

“Details of this website and the solicitation of the group are currently trending on WhatsApp with a suggestion that Osinbajo has “quietly” declared interest in the 2023 election.

“The Office of the Vice President is not in any way connected to this website or the group behind it and considers such an enterprise an unnecessary distraction.

“Osinbajo has not declared any interest whatsoever in the 2023 election; but he is rather focused on working in his capacity as vice president in the current administration to address all the compelling issues in the country and concerns of Nigerians, including finding effective and lasting solutions to the security challenges.

“Therefore, we ask that people desist from such unhelpful permutations while we all deal together with the challenges confronting us as Nigerians, and resolve them for the benefit of our people, peace, and prosperity in the land.’’
