    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) has projected former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the winner of the presidential primary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

    The projection was made based on results sorted for aspirants that participated in the primary election of the PDP.

    At the time of filing this report, Atiku polled more votes than any other aspirant in the contest.

    The aspirant close to Atiku is Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike. Wike polled a total of 237 votes from delegates.

  • PDP begins vote sorting, counting to determine presidential candidate

    Sorting and counting of votes have started at the presidential primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in Abuja.

    Voting by national delegates was done state by state and in alphabetical order and it ended at 10.10 p.m.

    The sorting of votes began at 10.18 p.m.

    Twelve aspirants contested the election where 767 out of 774 delegates voted.

    The delegates were barred from using their mobile phones at the voting points.

    Police in Taraba rescue APC election committee members from being lynched

    Police in Taraba on Saturday rescued the four members of the committee to conduct primary elections of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Senate and House of Representatives from being lynched.

    Aggrieved party members waylaid the quartet at Pupile, a community between Yola and Jaingo, having gotten wind of a rumour that they were conniving with a faction to manipulate the election results.

    Rumour had it that the committee members, led by Dr Muhammad Alkali stopped at Pupule, a few miles from Jalingo and met with the faction to hand over pre-determined election results.

    A mob rushed to the community with intent to lynch the electoral committee members, but the quick intervention by the police saved the situation.

    Commissioner of Police in Taraba, Mr Abimbola Shokoya, said police had taken custody of the committee members but were not interested in dabbling into partisan politics.

    Shokoya stressed that the police were under obligation to ensure the security of lives and property of the people at all costs.

    He stressed that the situation had been brought under control.

    Gov Lalong clinches APC senatorial ticket for Plateau South

    Gov Simon Lalong of Plateau, has clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC), ticket to contest for the Plateau South Senatorial District seat in the 2023 General Elections.

    Lalong emerged unopposed at the primary election, held on Saturday, at the Zonal Headquarters of the senatorial district in Shendam Local Government Area (LGA), of the state.

    In a press release on Saturday in Jos by the governor’s spokesperson, Dr Makut Macham, Lalong thanked members of the APC in the zone for giving him their mandate, saying he will not disappoint them.

    The governor was announced winner by the chairman of the election panel, Hon. Titi Oseni, who said Lalong got 335 out of the 340 votes, while five were invalid.

    He promised he would use his experience as a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, governor and lawyer, to attract development opportunities to the zone and the entire state.

    The governor thanked the Plateau legacy group for purchasing the senatorial nomination form for him to contest, while urging party members to remain steadfast ahead of the general elections.

    He expressed confidence over APC’s victory, not only for the senate, but for all other elective offices.

    Lalong assured Plateau people of the party’s commitment to the acceleration of development in the state.

    He also thanked the APC in Plateau for the peaceful conduct of all its primary elections, as well as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for effective monitoring of the exercise.

    APC Senatorial primary election turns bloody in Kaduna

    Thugs and hoodlums invaded the venue of the Kaduna North senatorial district primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday and turned the exercise rowdy and bloody.

    The election was between President Muhammadu Buhari’s in-law Turad Sani Sha’aban, the incumbent Sen. Suleman Abdu Kwari and Haliru Ibrahim.

    The cameras and other electronic gadgets of some journalists were confiscated by loyalists of one of the aspirants.

    The thugs invaded the venue when delegates from Sabon Gari area of Kaduna were called to cast their votes.

    The thugs brandished different kinds of weapons and injured some delegates.

    Police spokesman in the state, ASP Mohammed Jalige, did not take his calls to confirm the incident.

    Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed thanks to Aminu Tambuwal shortly after the Sokoto State Governor stepped down from the presidential race of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Tambuwal stepped down from the presidential race, lending his support to the former Vice President.

    “Thank you, H.E Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, for your spirited campaign. I look forward to working with you as we unite our party and our country,” Atiku took to his official Facebook to say.

    Tambuwal in announcing his withdrawal from the PDP presidential race appealed to his supporters to take his decision to withdraw in good faith.

    BREAKING: Aminu Tambuwal steps down from PDP presidential race

    Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal has just announced his withdrawal from the presidential race of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Tambuwal withdrew from the PDP presidential race, barely few minutes to the commencement of voting at the special national convention of the party.

    In announcing his withdrawal from the PDP presidential race, the Sokoto State Governor lent support for Atiku Abubakar and urged his supporters to take his decision to withdraw from the race in good faith.

    He said that having consulted widely across the country, he decided to withdraw from the race for posterity.

    “There must be a time for a leader to make sacrifice,” he said.

    He said that his decision was to minimize rancour and foster unity in the party and to ensure national unity.

    TNG reports Tambuwal was the fourth aspirant to withdraw from the race after former Gov. Peter Obi of Anambra, Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze and Mr Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

    Reacting, Atiku on his Twitter handle, thanked him for the gesture.

    “I look forward to working with you as we unite our party and our country,” he tweeted.

    Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has said that the ongoing PDP presidential primaries will be fair and transparent.

    TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports the governor saying “we had put a better structure in place via the emergence of the NWC last year and this has put us in better stead.

    On why INEC shifted grounds on the extension of the conventions, Ortom said “we are really disappointed at INEC because they vowed to us that they will not even shift it for one day but here we are.

    “We can’t be postponing like APC because PDP sets the pace for others to follow and that’s why a free and fair delegates conference”.

  • 2023: Atiku returns as PDP commences 2022 National Convention

    Former Vice President and frontline presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar has returned to the venue of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) special national convention where the presidential flag bearer of the party for the 2023 elections will be decided.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the national convention officially commenced at 6.02 pm with the National Anthem as PDP’s officials and aspirants, including Atiku, took turns to address the gathering.

    774 national delegates are expected to vote in the convention to elect a candidate from 13 aspirants.

    The aspirants are Govs. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Udom Gabriel of Akwa-Ibom, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. Pius Anyim and Former Governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose.

    Others include Former Speaker of Abia, Hon Chikwendu Kalu; Former Deputy Speaker of Abia, Hon. Cosmos Ndekwe, the Only female aspirant, Mrs Oliva Tariela; the Publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, former President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Mazi Samuel Ohuabunwa.

    Former Governor of Anambra, Peter Obi; financial Expert, Mohammed Hayatudeen-Hayatu-Deen and Anakwenze Nwachukwu earlier have resigned from the race in the last 24 hours.

    Oshiomole wins Edo North APC senatorial ticket

    Former Governor of Edo and ex-national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomole, has clinched his party’s Edo North Senatorial ticket ahead of the 2023 general elections.

    Oshiomole scored 309 votes to pick the APC ticket while his opponent, incumbent Sen. Francis Alimikhena, polled five votes at the party primary election held in Auchi, Edo, on Saturday.

    The party returning officer for the APC primary, Mr Festus Ebia said 317 delegates were accredited out of the 320 expected delegates for the election, adding that three votes were voided.

    “Oshiomole having scored the majority votes of 309 and satisfied the requirement of the election is hereby declared winner” he said.

    In his acceptance speech,Oshiomole thanked the delegates and commended the national body for conducting a transparent primary election.

    Oshiomole said his commitment was to do his best for the good people of Edo North and to improve their lifestyles through quality representation.

    “If God gives us victory in the main election, I will ensure that the voice of Edo North will be loud and clear the same way I did as governor of the state.

    “My promise, if given the mandate at the senate, I will work with other senators to ensure that the senate functions in a manner that will reflect the will and aspiration of Nigerians,” he said.

    Oshiomole, however, urged Alimikhena to find the courage to accept the outcome of the election in good faith the same way his opponent accepted him in 2015 and 2019 when he emerged the party’s candidate.
