  • Borno promotes 3,000 teachers

    The Borno State Government on Sunday said it had promoted 3,000 teachers in an effort to improve teachers’ welfare and transform its education sector.

    Alhaji Kaka-Ali Abba, the Education Secretary, Maiduguri Municipal Council, said this in an interview in Maiduguri on Sunday.

    Abba said that the state government approved the promotion of teaching and non-teaching staff who had not benefitted from the exercise in the past eight years.

    According to him, the newly promoted teachers from 27 local government areas are currently awaiting payment of annual increment and promotion arrears.

    Abba said that the state government prioritised the education sector through school rehabilitation projects, provision of furniture and instructional materials as well as teacher development programmes.

    He said the Nigeria Union of Teachers ( NUT ) was working with the state government to ensure full implementation of the N18,000 minimum wage for teachers in eight local government areas.

  • Army promotes Diya, 122 other senior officers

    The Army Council has approved the promotion of 123 senior officers, including 66 Lieutenant Colonels and 57 Majors to the next rank.

    Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, the army spokesman on Saturday, said the promotion followed the recommendation of the Army Promotion Board 3 and 4 “as reflected in the 2017 Nigerian Army Forecast of Events.”

    Usman listed some of the beneficiaries in the category of those elevated to Colonel as the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 7 Division, Lt.- Col. K.M Samuel and Lt.-Col. O.O Diya of 707 Special Forces Brigade.

    Others, he said are Lt.- Col.l A.M Tukur, Commanding Officer of 119 Task Force Battalion, Lt.-Co.l M.B Shehu, Commanding Officer 158 Battalion and Lt.-Col. K.C Uwa, Commanding Officer 146 Battalion.

    According to him, one other officer, late Lt.-Col. Aliyu Suleman was promoted, posthumously.

    Promoted Lieutenant Colonel is the Acting Commanding Officer of 115 Task Force Battalion, Major MD Olaseni, and Acting Commanding Officer of 151 Task Force Battalion, Major OJ Okwoli, amongst others,” he said.

  • Police IG orders promotion of officers who arrested Billionaire kidnapper, Evans

    The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has approved the promotion of police officers who participated in the arrest of Lagos billionaire kidnapper, Evans.

    Evans was arrested on Saturday, June 10 in Lagos by officers of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) led by ACP Abba Kyari, while he planned to travel out of the country.

    35 operatives from the IRT, 11 from the Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) and one person from the IGP monitoring section, were involved in the elevation.

    In a memo signed by the Commissioner of Police in charge of welfare, Posi Ajunwa, 29 sergeants were promoted to rank of Inspector, while three Corporals were promoted to the rank of Sergeant with effect from June 16, 2017.

    The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has approved the special promotion of policemen who participated in the arrest of Lagos most wanted kidnapper, Duneme Onwuamadike popularly known as Evans.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that the billionaire kingpin was arrested in Lagos on Saturday, June 10 while preparing to travel out of the country. The arrest was carried out by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and led by ACP Abba Kyari.

    It was gathered that 35 operatives from the IRT, 11 from the Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) and one person from the IGP monitoring section, were involved in the elevation.
