    The self-acclaimed area father, Charles Oputa, aka Charlyboy on Monday demanded President Muhammadu Buhari’s resignation in a protest staged in Abuja following his continuous medical vacation in London, United Kingdom.

    Charlyboy noted that the president should either resume office or officially tender his resignation.

    They are currently at the Unity Fountain and are marching to the National Assembly singing solidarity song.

    Anti-capitalist protesters on Friday set fire to cars, barricades, rubbish bins and wooden pallets on Friday as leaders from the world’s top economies convened for a summit in the northern German city of Hamburg.

    Police said violence that erupted during marches on Thursday continued into Friday, with protesters slashing the tires of a car belonging to the Canadian delegation to the G20 summit and smashing windows of the consulate of Mongolia.

    At least 29 protesters were detained and 111 police officers had been injured as of Friday morning, including three officers who required treatment in hospital.

    A police spokesman said only small numbers of far-left or anarchist protesters were involved in violence, with the majority of an estimated 100,000 demonstrators in the city remaining peaceful.

    Some 12,000 took part in the main march.

    Authorities said 15,000 police were on hand from each of Germany’s 16 states, authorities said they asked for reinforcements late on Thursday after realising the situation on the streets of Hamburg was proving more difficult than expected.

    “We have asked nationwide if police forces are available and those requests are being reviewed,” a police spokesman said.

    Police said on Friday, smaller groups of protesters attacked both manned and empty police cars, one of which was hit by a petrol bomb.

    According to a statement by the police, one of the many police helicopters patrolling the skies was nearly struck by a rocket flare.

    On Thursday the pilots of another helicopter sustained eye injuries after a laser was directed against them.

    Police said they continued to dispel street blockades throughout the port city.

    Meanwhile, German media are reporting that US first lady Melania Trump has been unable to leave her Hamburg residence to take part in the summit’s programme for leaders’ partners because of the presence of demonstrators.

    “We have no security clearance from the police to leave the guest house,” a spokeswoman told German news agency DPA.

    Other partners, including Brigitte Macron, the wife of France’s president Emmanuel Macron, Theresa May’s husband Philip and Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, the wife of Canada’s prime minister Justin Trudeau, are on a sightseeing tour with German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s husband, Joachim Sauer.

  • PHOTOS: Legislative aides protest colleague’s death due to delayed salaries

    Legislative aides at the National Assembly on Tuesday protested over the death of their colleague, Mr. Hassan Abiodun, who was attached to the Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Sulaiman Lasun.

    Abiodun was said to be suffering from appendicitis that required N165,000 to be operated on, but he died before he could raise the money to pay his hospital bill.

    The aides attributed Abiodun’s death to irregular payment of salaries and allowances by the National Assembly Management.

    Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, better known as Charly boy is currently leading a peaceful protest in the company of some youths in the Ikeja area of Lagos State.

    Charly boy, the self-acclaimed President of all frustrated Nigerians led the march from Oworonshoki in the early hours of Monday morning.

    The protesters marched across the Third Mainland Bridge to Maryland, and are now towards Ikeja.

    According to the Charly boy, the march is staged in order to pass the grievances of frustrated Nigerians about the worsening economic, security and political crisis to the appropriate quarters.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that over the weeks Charly boy had used his social media handles to garner Nigerian youths for the planned protest slatted for Monday June 12, 2017.

  • UI shut over students’ protest

    The management of the University of Ibadan, UI, on Monday shut the institution and directed the students to vacate the campus on or before 6pm.

    The News Agency of Nigeria( NAN) reports that the students had earlier taken to the streets of Ibadan in protest, alleging insensitivity on the part of the university management.

    But the university’s Director of Communications and Publication, Olatunji Oladejo, told NAN that the closure became necessary in other to avert crisis.

    He said that the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, had convened an emergency meeting of the university Senate to review the circumstances surrounding the development.

    ” The University of Ibadan in its wisdom has decided to shift the examination earlier scheduled for June to July, 2017, ” Oladejo said.

    He said that undergraduate students are to resume back in school on July 17, while the post graduate students would continue to stay on campus for their research activities.

    The students at a congress on Saturday passed a resolution to disrupt the forthcoming examinations if students were not provided with identity cards.

    They also asked the authorities constitute the Students’ Welfare Board as well as allow use of cooking appliances that had been banned in the halls of residence.

    VIDEO/PHOTOS: IPOB women protest military harassment in Abia, go topless

    Some women have taken to the streets topless to protest the alleged harassment and intimidation of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB by the military.

    The women were reportedly staging a conference in Abiriba, Abia State when some operatives of the Nigerian Army bashed in their midst and started harassing and subsequently arresting the women.

    A Facebook user Chukwuebuka Idoko, live streamed the protest.

    In the video, the women were seen unclad, chanting ‘disagreement songs’ in their indigenous language.

    FUTO expels six final year students for violent protest

    The authorities of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), have expelled six final year students of the institution for allegedly involving in a violent protest in the premises of the institution.

    The Registrar of the institution, John Nnabuihe, who disclosed this on Tuesday, in Owerri, said the Senate of the institution met a few days ago and approved of their expulsion.

    “Six of them have been expelled, including the former student leader. The Senate met and expelled them,” Nnabuihe said.

    Those affected were Collins Ogbonna (Fishery and Aquaculture Technology); Elvis Onuoha (Animal Science Technology); and Ebuka Odunze of Computer Science department.

    Others expelled as confirmed by Nnabuihe were Kenneth Mega (Prosthetics and Orthotics department); Nnamdi Madu and Collins Ugwu all of Optometry department.

    Meanwhile, in solidarity with the expelled students, according to The Guardian, we gathered that the students of the institution and other tertiary institutions across the country were allegedly planning to shut down academic and administrative activities in the FUTO on May 8 if the authorities of the institution fail to recall the expelled students.

    They demanded that the cause of the demonstration students held about two months ago be addressed rather than expelling students.

    Students had staged a violent demonstration at the school about two months ago to protest increase of certain fees and lack of some accommodation and basic amenities.

    Certain properties belonging to the institution were destroyed in the process.

    The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Francis Eze dismissed the allegation, stating that the institution, as a federal institution, does not charge school fees, noting that only negligible addition for the provision of WiFi was made as agreed between the student body, the authorities and the providers.

    Nigerian entertainer and public affairs commentator, Charles Oputa, otherwise known as Charly Boy, embarked on a protest alone to the Presidential Villa. The unusual protest is in solidarity with the Bring Back Our Girls movement which commemorates the third anniversary of the Chibok girls abduction.

    He embarked on the protest to Aso Rock on Monday. In a video circulated on social media, Charly Boy is seen carrying a placard walking aggressively to the villa

    In April 2014, Boko Haram Insurgents invaded the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno state, and abducted over 200 girls.
