Chelsea set to sign Thiago Silva from PSG

Chelsea are close to sealing a free transfer for Paris Saint-Germain’s Thiago Silva, according to Sky Sports.

The Brazilian played his final match for PSG in Sunday’s Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich.

Signed from AC Milan in 2012, the 35-year-old Brazilian has been a mainstay of the Parc des Princes side for the duration of his stay in France and has won the affection of the fans.

“It was my last game in Paris,” he told RMC Sport. “I am sad. I apologise to the fans. I thank all the supporters for their love. I’ll come back, with another role, in this club I loved. I want to play for another 3-4 years and play in the World Cup in Qatar.”

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe shed bitter tears after the final whistle in Lisbon when Bayern edged Paris Saint Germain 1-0 to win the Champions League.

Neymar even briefly touched the trophy after receiving his silver medal.

Photographs also showed David Alaba of Bayern consoling the tearful Brazilian after the match.

As Neymar said on Twitter later: “Losing is part of the sport, we try everything, we fight until the end. Thank you for the support and affection of each one of you and CONGRATULATIONS to BAYERN”.

The trophy was hoisted by Bayern Munich captain and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer who had produced world-class saves against Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Marquinhos to help Bayern Munich to the 1-0 win.

And the ultimate irony of the Sunday night in Lisbon was that Munich’s winner came from Paris-born Kingsley Coman, who was a graduate of PSG Academy.

Ever since PSG came under Qatari ownership in 2011 Europe’s biggest prize in football was the club’s biggest aim, with more than $A1.3 billion dollars spent on players including Neymar and Mbappe.

They never came as close as on Sunday because it was their first final in their 50 years as a club, the reward for a new-found team spirit under coach Thomas Tuchel in which the star forwards worked as hard as their teammates.

“I am very proud. It is always the worst feeling to lose a final like that,” Tuchel said after his team failed to win the trophy for France 27 years after Olympique Marseille’s success.

“Over the last two years we have built a special atmosphere. We must keep this spirit and mentality. We need to build another strong side to continue this run. That will be the challenge to rediscover this spirit.”

Bayern Munich deny PSG first Champions League title

Bayern Munich sealed a sixth European Cup crown with a narrow 1-0 win over first-time finalists Paris Saint-Germain in Lisbon, thanks to a goal from former PSG youth academy graduate Kingsley Coman.

Coman, France international appeared at the back post to glance home a cross from Joshua Kimmich in the 59th minute, completing a sweeping move by Bayern, who until then had been the second best side on the pitch.

Coman’s strike punished PSG’s wastefulness in the first half as Neymar and Kylian Mbappe both failed to beat Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer from close range while Angel di Maria and Ander Herrera also narrowly missed the target.

PSG substitute Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting missed two late opportunities to level for the French side, who are still waiting to win their first Champions League title after billions of euros of investment from the Qatar royal family.

Bayern Munich are through to the Champions League final after a 3-0 win over Lyon.

Gnabry scored a brace in the first half; his first was a powerful strike into the top corner before he tapped in from close range Lewandowski’s shot was parried to him by Lopes.

Lewandowski then rounded it off last on with his 55th goal of the season when he headed in Kimmich’s free-kick.

Bayern will face Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday’s final, where they’ll try to win this competition for the sixth time.

PSG reach first-ever Champions League final

Paris Saint-Germain cruised into their first-ever Champions League final thanks to a sparkling performance from their front three of Neymar, Angel Di Maria and Kylian Mbappe.

They were far too clever and sharp for RB Leipzig, who failed to turn up in the first half and were punished accordingly.

One of Europe’s biggest spenders, but also one of the continent’s most high-profile underachievers on the grandest stage, PSG finally seized their opportunity courtesy of goals from Marquinhos, Angel di Maria and Juan Bernat.

PSG will find out who they face in Sunday’s final when five-time winners Bayern Munich play Lyon in the other semi-final on Wednesday.

Mbappe could start as PSG target first Champions League final

Paris St Germain striker Kylian Mbappe could start Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final against RB Leipzig, as the French club target their first appearance in a Champions League final.

Mbappe came off the bench for the last half hour against Atalanta last week to set up the winning goal.

Tuchel told a news conference the France World Cup winner had suffered no reaction to his injured ankle.

Asked whether Mbappe could start in attack alongside Brazilian Neymar, Tuchel said: “Yes, he played 30 minutes against Atalanta and had no problems with his ankle.

“Since then he has had six days to recover, he will train and if there is the possibility for him to start we will see if he can play the 90 minutes. We’ll decide if he starts or if he comes into play (from the bench),” he added.

Mbappe’s introduction shifted the momentum against the Italians with PSG trailing by a goal before two late strikes booked their place in the last four.

Until the 21-year-old injected speed and invention into the left side, Neymar had carried much of the responsibility for the PSG attacks on his own shoulders.

Tuchel said the Brazilian’s performance had shown qualities that are not always acknowledged.

“Since I arrived he has always been a leader. A different leader, not as everyone understands him, but with his qualities, his confidence, his courage in the field, his will to win.,” he said.

“We also created a group with players like Ander Herrera, Pablo Sarabia, Keylor Navas and others, guys who know very well how to live together, created a collective atmosphere. Perhaps this is the key to seeing Neymar on another level,” he said.

Big-spending PSG had never previously reached this stage of the competition.

“We live in the present moment, we deserve to be here, we have had an extraordinary journey and season,” Tuchel said.

“If we got this far, it’s because we worked for several months, at the highest level. We are ready, we are hungry, but we do not think about the historical side, because we are in the semi-finals and we are there to win,” the German added.

Transfer: PSG make contact for Odion Ighalo

French champions PSG are interested in signing Manchester United’s Odion Ighalo as an option to replace Edinson Cavani, according to Foot Mercato.

The Parisians are said to have met with the Nigerian forward’s representatives with the hope of bringing him to the French capital to provide competition for new-signing Mauro Icardi.

Ighalo temporarily joined Manchester United from Shanghai Shenhua on a short-term deal in January but the loan has been extended until January 2021. He has scored five goals so far for the Red Devils across all competitions.

UCL: PSG progress to semi-finals after two late goals

Paris St-Germain scored twice in stoppage-time to seal an incredible comeback against Atalanta and reach the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in 25 years.

A night of frustration for PSG forward Neymar looked set to ensure more continental disappointment for the French champions as Atalanta led through Mario Pasalic.

But Neymar laid on a 90th-minute equaliser for Marquinhos and substitute Kylian Mbappe teed up former Stoke striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to slide in the winner.

PSG will now face either RB Leipzig or Atletico Madrid in the first semi-final next Tuesday night.

Paris-Saint Germain won the Coupe de France on Friday night, but the ultimate price was paid with the loss of Kylian Mbappe to injury in the first half.

Kylian Mbappe limped out of the Coupe de France final and was later on crutches as Paris Saint-Germain beat Saint-Etienne.

All thanks to Brazilian forward Neymar who scored the only goal of the encounter.

PSG, awarded the Ligue 1 title on a points-per-game basis after the season was called off in April, made it a double through Neymar’s 14th-minute effort but it proved a pyrrhic victory.

Loic Perrin was sent off in the 31st minute following a cynical tackle on Mbappe, who was withdrawn with an apparent ankle injury and later returned to the bench on crutches with his leg in a brace, making him a serious doubt for PSG’s return to Champions League action next month.

PSG prepared to do Neymar deal with Barca

PSG are prepared to do business with Barcelona over the sale of Neymar.

The Brazil captain has refused to consider new contract talks with PSG as he pushes to return to the Nou Camp.

And Okdiario’s chief of football Eduardo Inda, speaking on El Chiringuito, has revealed PSG are willing to discuss terms.

“Barcelona continues to insist on Neymar and PSG is letting this develop,” said Inda. “They would be willing to negotiate if Barca included (Ousmane) Dembélé.

“The operation would be a player plus €80m.”

Neymar has a deal with PSG to 2022, having left Barca three years ago for a world record €222m.
