La Liga drags PSG to UEFA over Neymar

Spain’s football league chief Javier Tebas said he will file a complaint with UEFA for financial fair play breaches against Paris Saint-Germain over their pursuit of Brazilian superstar Neymar.

PSG are rumoured to be weighing up a bid for the Barcelona forward at more than 200 million euros, enough to trigger the 25-year-old’s transfer release clause.

“La Liga will file this complaint because it’s a problem for La Liga’s competitiveness. Today it’s happened to Barca, tomorrow it could happen to Real Madrid, it’s happened to Atletico Madrid,” Tebas, the La Liga chairman, told Mundo Deportivo.

Should PSG bid, and then pay, the 222 million euros needed to prise Neymar from the Catalan capital, they would struggle to meet UEFA’s financial fair play conditions that limit a team to losses of no more than 30 million euros over a three-year cycle.

And that is despite a mega-money sponsorship deal with the Qatar tourism board.

According to Tebas, “no-one believes” the commercial revenue figures presented by PSG to justify their spending.

“PSG cannot have figures in which PSG’s commercial rights exceed those of Real Madrid and Barcelona,” said Tebas.

“No-one believes that. We’ve carried out economic studies and it’s impossible.

“It means that the Qatari state is injecting money and that violates UEFA’s financial fair play rules and the European Union’s norms of economic competition, and we’re going to file a complaint.”

In 2014, PSG were fined 60 million euros and handed transfer spending restrictions by UEFA for breaching financial fair play rules.

UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body has also stated that PSG’s 200 million euros a year image rights contract with the Qatari tourist board is inflated and double its “true value”.

PSG are owned by Oryx Qatar Sports Investments.

  • Okocha: Oliver Khan hates me

The former midfield maestro has revealed what the legendary goalkeeper still harbour towards him following his moment of brilliance.

Austin Okocha has said that ex- Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn does not like him even after 23 years of the humiliation he suffered.

Eintracht Frankfurt’ Okocha made a mince meat of the German legend who was in goal for Karlsruhe in a Bundesliga game in 1993.

“Kahn doesn’t like me, he has taken it personal. I was just doing my job, I didn’t have the intention to hold the ball too long but he was at the receiving end,” Okocha said in a press conference organised by Star Times.

“I am grateful to God for that because people can still identify me with something in Germany.”

The former Bolton Wanderers captain also revealed how the early education he received in Germany helped shaped his career as a whole.

“Being the World Cup champions is not a fluke; their youth development programme is strong. I used to say that I got to Germany as a boy but I left as a man.

“I never knew they had the structure in term of discipline, education and lifestyle.”

  • OFFICIAL: PSG Sign Draxler

The Germany international has moved to the Parc des Princes on a four-and-a-half-year deal for a fee worth an initial €35m

Wolfsburg have confirmed the departure of Julian Draxler to Paris Saint-Germain, with the Germany international signing a four-and-a-half year deal at Parc des Princes.

Goal understands the Ligue 1 champions will pay €35 million up front for the former Schalke man with the possibility of an extra €10m to be paid in bonuses.

“Julian Draxler is to leave VfL Wolfsburg and sign for French club Paris Saint-Germain, pending a medical examination,” a Wolfsburg statement confirmed.

“The 23-year-old attacker has agreed to a four-year deal with the Ligue 1 titleholders and UEFA Champions League participants. Both clubs have agreed to keep the financial details of the deal confidential.”

Sporting director Olaf Rebbe said: “We’ve had some very intense but constructive discussions with Paris Saint-Germain, Julian Draxler and his management over the past few days and we’re confident to have reached a satisfactory conclusion for all parties.”

Head coach Valerien Ismael added: “Of course I’m sad to see Julian go, because he’s an outstanding footballer. He gave everything in the recent matches against Frankfurt and Borussia Monchengladbach and once again showed how much this club meant to him.

“I hope his move to France provides him with a fresh challenge.”

Draxler joined Wolfsburg from Schalke in August 2015 but has endured a difficult time at the Volkswagen Arena.

He has made 14 appearances this season without scoring a goal and was omitted from the squad to face Bayern Munich following concerns over his behaviour, although he did register an assist in each of his last two games against Frankfurt and Gladbach.

The arrival of Draxler, who had been linked with Arsenal, is expected to hasten the departure of Jese Rodriguez, who has been linked with a return to La Liga with Las Palmas.

Goal understands PSG are also keen on Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez, who they see as a long-term replacement for Maxwell and competition for Layvin Kurzawa.

However, any deal would see Rodriguez first loaned back to Wolfsburg for the final six months of the season.
