What PSG president told me after Mbappe meeting – Rothen

Former France midfielder and now pundit Jerome Rothen has spoken to PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi since it broke that Kylian Mbappe will leave at the end of the season.

Real Madrid target Mbappe informed Al-Khelaifi earlier this week his intention to leave this summer.

Rothen told RMC: “The PSG president told me that there will be disappointment, but he is a businessman, he had already gotten used to the idea of losing part of the investment made six years ago in Mbappé.

“He appreciated that Mbappé went to announce his decision face to face, there will be no sanctions. He is happy overall with how this investment went.”

Then he added: “We could have imagined it. The more time passed, the less likely it was that Mbappé would stay. He spent seven years at PSG, almost half of his career! He gave it his all.”

I’ll talk once PSG and Mbappe conclude – Luis Enrique

PSG coach Luis Enrique has decided not to discuss Kylian Mbappe’s departure.

Ahead of facing Nantes, Enrique was asked about claims Mbappe had informed PSG that he would leave at the end of the season, with Real Madrid his favoured destination.

But Enrique would only say today: “I can’t say anything.

“I cannot settle this information. Until the parties involved speak out, I do not intend to comment on anything. And the parties involved have not spoken.

“Mbappe has not publicly left nor anyone else from the club. When the parties speak, I will give you an opinion. The team is above all players.

“The club is above everything and all individualities. When the parties involved speak out, I, as coach, will give my opinion.”

    I deserve money I earn, I didn’t steal it – Mbappe

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe has dismissed criticism of the money he earns.

Off contract in Jun, it’s suggested Real Madrid are offering Mbappe €30m-a-year to move to Spain. PSG, meanwhile, are claimed to be willing to pay the striker €100m-a-year to stay.

The truth is that I don’t know exactly…,” he responded when asked for his salary;. “At 12 years old, I also thought that there was too much money in football.

“I deserve the money I earn. I didn’t steal it from anyone. That’s how the world works.”

Mbappe’s lawyer Delphine Verheyden also said on Envoyé Spécial: “There is no guilt or shame. If we had been able to accept 10,000 million, we would have done it because it is the system that wants that.”

  • UCL: Barca through to round of 16, City in comeback win over Leipzig, PSG, Newcastle share spoils

UCL: Barca through to round of 16, City in comeback win over Leipzig, PSG, Newcastle share spoils

Barcelona have qualified for the Champions League knockout stages for the first time under coach Xavi Hernández.

The Blaugrana just need a point in their last group game of the season to finish the group stage as Group H winners thanks to a hard-fought and well-earned 2-1 win against FC Porto at the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium on Tuesday night.

Barça came from behind after Porto took the lead in the first half, but the Blaugrana showed mental strength and played a very good all-around team game to earn three big points and move on to the Round of 16 with a game to spare.

Elsewhere at the Etihad, City dominated the early possession but Leipzig, lining up in a nominal 4-5-1, were happy to absorb the pressure and hit the champions on the counter-attack.

Xaxi simons scored first for the visitors before Openda sped clear before finishing low beyond former Arminia Bielefeld man Ortega.

Ruben Dias headed over Blaswich’s crossbar before Erling Haaland uncharacteristically miscued a handful of chances.

Rico Lewis then blazed high on the half hour. Leipzig punished the profligacy soon after, with Openda scoring a better version of his opener, spinning Dias before dummying his way past former Leipzig man Joško Gvardiol and finishing low inside the near post. Lukas Klostermann nicked another Haaland chance off his toe and it was 2-0 at the break.

City pulled one back early in the second half when Phil Foden slipped Haaland in for another chance which he steered into the bottom corner, and Foden went from maker to taker soon after when he latched onto Gvardiol’s low cross, controlled sharply, and steered home low beyond Blaswich. Benjamin Šeško and Fabio

Carvalho entered the fray late on and both had good chances. The former stung Ortega’s gloves with a shot from the edge of the box, and the latter even had the ball in the back of the net, but the Liverpool-owned youngster’s effort was ruled out with the offside flag going up against him.

In France, Paris Saint Germain (PSG) drew 1-1 with visiting Newcastle, the Swede Alexander Isak scored first in the 24th minute and the toons was  running away with three point but Mbappe’s last minute penalty ensured both sides would share the spoils.

Ligue 1: France FA suspends four key PSG players over offensive chants

Four key players at Paris Saint-Germain PSG  have been suspended for making offensive chants.

The suspended players are Ousmane Dembele, Achraf Hakimi, Layvin Kurzawa and Randal Kolo Muani

The  players have been handed a one-match suspended sentence by the French league’s discipline commission for offensive chants aimed at bitter rival Marseille after a league match last month.

The four players allegedly shouted: “Marseillais, go f*ck your mothers” in video clips that have gone viral on social.

Dembele, Hakimi, Kurzawa and Muani have since all apologized for their actions.

PSG have also been ordered to close the famous Auteuil stand for at least one match as a result of homophobic chants directed towards Marseille fans.

The match at the Parc des Princes was also marred by homophobic chanting by sections of Paris Saint-Germain fans targeting Marseille players. As a result, the league ordered late Thursday the closure of the Auteuil stand for two matches, including one suspended.

The club, after pledging to “meet its partners on this vital issue” in late September, criticized the France FA’s decision.

“Paris Saint-Germain deplores that the disciplinary committee has decided to apply an extraordinary sanction against the club by pronouncing the closure of the Auteuil stand for two matches, one of which will be suspended.”

However, Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku struck late on to hand City the deserved  win.

The visitors were in near-total control throughout the first half, retaining over 70 percent of the possession. Their dominance was rewarded in the 25th minute when Foden slotted home Rico Lewis’ cutback to put City in the lead.

Elsewhere, Newcastle defeated Paris Saint German 4-1 in a very thrilling encounter.
Newcastle’s goals were scored by Almirón (17′), Burn (39′), Longstaff at 50′, and Schär scored the fourth at 90′.

Meanwhile Italian Side AC Milan were held to a second successive goalless draw in the Champions League at Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday to slip to third in Group F.

Stefano Pioli’s Italian side, semi-finalists last season, created the better chances but failed to convert them, just as in their opening 0-0 draw with Newcastle at the San Siro.

Newcastle climbed to the summit of the group while PSG dropped to second position. AC Milan are now third on the log while German side Borussia Dortmund are currently occupying the last position.

French Champions, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) started their 2023/24 UEFA Champions League campaign on a brighter note after defeating German side, Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in Paris.

The first half ended goalless at the Parc des Princes, as all effort to break the deadlock proved abortive in France.

However, upon resumption of second half, Kylian Mbappe gave PSG the lead after converting a penalty, before the Moroccan defender, Achraf Hakimi doubled the lead with a fantastic solo effort in the 58th minute.

UCL defending champions, Manchester City began their Champions League defence with a win over Crvena Zvezda of Serbia, as Julian Alvarez and Rodri scored in a 3-1 comeback win.

Rodri is the best midfielder in Europe, Pep Guardiola declared after the Spaniard scored again for Manchester City.

Bukari opened scoring, but Julian Alvarez struck twice, before Rodri added a third.

The midfielder now has three goals and two assists this season, and Guardiola feels he can get even better in the absence of more attacking teammates in the central areas.

Barcelona made their comeback in the UCL  count  by hammering Royal Antwerp 5-0, while Newcastle United played out a 0-0 draw at AC Milan.

Elsewhere in Italy, Provedel’s goal came in stoppage time and turned out to be the last touch of the game, ensuring Lazio avoided a defeat on home soil against Diego Simeone’s team.

Provedel is the first goalkeeper to score in the Champions League since Vincent Enyeama did so for Hapoel Tel Aviv against Lyon in 2010.

‘Messi and I experienced tough time at PSG’ – Neymar

Al-Hilal Brazilian forward,  Neymar has noted  that he experienced “hell” alongside Lionel Messi at Paris Saint-Germain.

According to him, the two of them failed to “make history” in France.

Both players left PSG this summer, with Messi signing for American clubide, Inter Miami as a free agent.

Neymar joined Al-Hilal  in Saudi Pro League after spending  six years at PSG.

He told Globo: “I was very happy for the year he had, but at the same time very sad because he lived on both sides of the coin, he went to heaven with the Argentina team, won everything in recent years, and with Paris, he lived hell.

“We lived through hell, both he and I. We get upset because we’re not there for nothing, we’re there to do our best, be champions, try to make history. That’s why we started playing together again; we came together there so we could make history. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it.”

Kolo Muani snubs Frankfurt training, seeks PSG transfer

France forward Randal Kolo Muani did not show up for Eintracht Frankfurt training on Wednesday as he appears set to force through a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

Frankfurt said that Kolo Muani missed training unauthoritised and would as a result not be part of the squad for Thursday’s Conference League match against Levski Sofia.

“We got to know Randal differently and we know his real character. There is a lot of pressure on him at the moment and this reaction is the result, which is wrong and which we have made clear to him and his environment,” Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche said.

Kolo Muani, 24, had his breakthrough last season and played at the World Cup where France lost the final against Argentina, which created interest from big European clubs.

He told Sky TV on Tuesday he had informed Frankfurt officials he wanted to leave for Ligue 1 champions PSG in the transfer window which ends on Friday.

“A transfer to Paris is a unique opportunity for me. I would like to move to Paris and have told this to club officials,” Kolo Muani said.

“I hope and wish that Frankfurt accept the offer from Paris and make this transfer possible for me.”

Kolo Muani has reportedly agreed personal terms with PSG on a five-year contract.

Frankfurt are said to have rejected a PSG offer worth €80 million ($87 million) for Kolo Muani who has a contract until 2027 without a release clause. Frankfurt reportedly want at least €100 million.

“I owe Frankfurt a lot. The fans are dear to me and I have always acted in a professional way. I have given my all for the club but it is no secret that Paris Saint-Germain have made a record offer for me,” Kolo Muani said.

Reports suggested that the interview may have not been authorised by Frankfurt.

Ligue 1: Mbappe returns, scores in PSG 1-1 draw with Toulouse

Embattled forward, Kylian Mbappé scored on his first Ligue 1 appearance for Paris Saint German PSG but the defending champions are still without a win in two games in the league.

Mbappe scored from the penalty spot but Toulouse snatched an equalizer to share spoils in the game on Saturday evening.

Recall that Mbappé had sat out the opening-day draw with Lorient, but he and Ousmane Dembélé – who also didn’t feature in the goalless draw in Week 1 – started on the bench at The Stadium where Toulouse were looking to build on their victory over Nantes last time out.

PSG started strongly and would have had an early lead had Guillaume Restes not managed to block Achraf Hakimi’s shot with a leg (21′) after the Morocco international had been teed up by Vitinha.

The result leaves the champions with just two points from possible 6 in the French Ligue 1.
