    Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has reacted to criticisms leveled on him after he declared a public holiday in commemoration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s return from a 103-day medical trip to London.

    Bello, who insisted the ‘Public holiday’ given to civil servants in Kogi state is justified, said only those who are not willing Buhari should return to Nigeria alive are the ones bitter over the President’s arrival.

    Recall TheNewsGuru.com reported at the weekend that Governor Bello declared Monday, August 21 as public holiday and thanksgiving day to commemorate the safe return of President Muhammadu Buhari from his medical vacation in London.

    A statement issued on Sunday in Lokoja by his Director General on Media and Publicity, Kingsley Fanwo, said the gesture was in line with the support of the Kogi people for “the renaissance of our nation by Mr. President”.

    “We urge Kogites to also use the occasion of the Public Holiday to pray for Mr. President as he resumes his responsibilities of repositioning Nigeria,” the statement said.

    The Governor thanked people of the state for standing by the President and for trooping to Abuja in thousands to welcome the ‘Lion of Africa’.

    The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday as public holiday in honour of late elder statesman, Alhaji Maitama Sule.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that the two-time minister and former Nigerian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, died in the early hours of Monday (today) at 88.

    This was revealed in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Mallam Mohammed Garba.

    According to the statement, the deceased lying in state will take place at the palace of Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to enable prominent Nigerians to mourn and pay their last respect to the elder statesman before his internment.

    The statement reads: ” The death has occurred today (Monday) of Alhaji (Dr.) Yusuf Maitama Sule, Dan Masanin Kano.

    “Dr. Yusuf Maitama Sule died at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, where he was receiving treatment for an illness.

    “Funeral prayer for the deceased will be conducted tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu, by 4:00 p.m.

    “Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has declared Tuesday a work – free day in the state to mourn the death of the elder statesman.”

     

     

  • Eid el-Fitr: FG declares Monday, Tuesday public holiday

    The Federal Government has declared Monday, June 26 and Tuesday, June 27 as Public Holiday to mark Eid el Fitr.

    Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau made the annnouncement on behalf of the Federal Government on Thursday in Abuja.

    He‎ enjoined all Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to use the occasion of the celebration for sober reflection and pray for peace, unity and progress of the nation in its march to nationhood.

    Dambazau urged all Nigerians to shun hate speeches and divisive tendencies and join hands with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to build a peaceful, strong and united Nigeria.

    He assured of a Nigeria, ‎which guarantees fundamental freedoms, including the right of residence in any part of the country, as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

    ‎The minister reaffirmed the determination of the Federal Government to protect all lives and property of Nigerians.

    He warned hoodlums not to test the will of the administration.

    The minister said the government has the capability to deploy security agencies to deal with any individual or group that may threaten the corporate existence of the nation, as well as the peaceful co-existence of the people.

    He ‎further assured Nigerians of the government’s resolve to be just and fair to all.

    The minister wished Nigerians a peaceful and rewarding celebration.

    Osun declares June 12 public holiday

    The Osun State Government has declared Monday as public holiday to commemorate the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

    This is contained in a release signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Adelani Baderinwa in Osogbo on Friday.

    “The public holiday is to commemorate the June 12, 1993 presidential election believed to have been won by the late business mogul, late Bashorun MKO Abiola, but was annulled by the General Ibrahim Babangida junta.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that the Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola government of Osun State has been celebrating the day since 2011.

  • Democracy Celebrations: FG declares Monday public holiday

    The Federal Government has declared Monday, May 29,2017 as a public holiday to celebrate the 2017 Democracy Day.

    Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.) in a statement on Thursday in Abuja congratulated Nigerians for witnessing yet another Democracy Day which marked the second anniversary of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

    Dambazau in the statement by the Director Overseeing the Permanent Secretary’s Office, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido assured Nigerians of the government’s continued efforts towards guaranteeing security, revitalizing the economy and tackling corruption.

    He noted that a lot had been achieved in the area of security, particularly in the northeast, and in tackling corruption, adding that recent statistics by the National Bureau of Statistics indicated tremendous improvement in the nation’s Gross Domestic Product.

    The minister said, “No doubt, the nation is closer to getting out of recession, particularly with the recently launched Economic Recovery and Growth Plan which seeks to revitalize the nation’s economy soonest.

    “With the recently signed Executive Orders on Ease of Doing Business, we have opened our doors wider for both domestic and foreign investors.”

    Dambazau admonished the citizens to join hands with President Buhari “in his sustained efforts in building a peaceful and enduring democratic legacy.”

    He wished all Nigerians a happy Democracy Day celebration.

    The Federal Government has declared Monday, December 12 , as public holiday to mark the Muslim festival of Eid-El-Maulud, to celebrate the birth of Prophet Mohammed.

    The Minister of Interior, Retired Lt.- Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government on Thursday in Abuja.

    In a statement signed by the acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido, Dambazau enjoined all Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to join hands with President Muhammadu Buhari to build a strong, united and peaceful Nation.‎

    He also urged all Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace across the nation.‎

    The minister also called on all Nigerians to be patient and supportive of the present administration for the successful implementation of its laudable programmes.

    He wished all Nigerians a happy and peaceful Eid-El-Maulud celebration.
