“We’re praying hard for you to return to PDP”- Bayelsa gov, Diri tells Kwankwaso

As campaigns intensify for the 2023 general elections, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has revealed that the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, is still being expected back to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, by him and other politicians of the latter party.

He disclosed this when the NNPP presidential candidate led top officials of his campaign council to visit him at the Government House, Yenagoa, on Tuesday.

The governor, who spoke through his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, said his administration was on the same page with Kwankwaso on several national problems affecting the country.

Describing the NNPP standard bearer as “an astute politician” who is passionate about working for a better Nigeria, he however, pointed out that current realities show that the country could be better fixed by the PDP.

Diri also described Bayelsa as one of the most environmentally terrorized places in the world with an unacceptable level of poverty that requires urgent attention.

Presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso,

He stressed that the state had been facing severe environmental degradation occasioned by gas flaring, crude oil spills and other environmentally unwholesome practices by multinational oil firms over the years.

According to him, what the state and its people need is a Nigerian president that would ensure environmental justice as well as true federalism in resource allocation and redistribution.

Diri agreed with his visitor that the country was witnessing, what he called, decayed infrastructure, collapsed healthcare and education systems, in addition to pervasive poverty and insecurity.

He said, “We agree with you in terms of the need to rescue Nigeria. But you know that there is no time your fowl and another will be wrestling that you will be seen clapping hands for the other fowl.

“Earlier, you put the poser across to us that you are expecting us to join you. But I want to let you know that we are also praying hard for you to come back to the PDP, where you rightly belong.”

The NNPP presidential candidate, Kwankwaso, had explained that he and his team were in the state to sell his aspiration and ideas on how best to fix the country.

He said he would mobilize all democratic forces to save Nigeria from insecurity, poverty, failed healthcare, agriculture, education and infrastructure if elected as president in the elections scheduled for next month.
He noted that the party was not the issue, but electing the right person as president, warning that Nigerians would have themselves to blame if they did not vote “a healthy person as their next president.”

2023: Kwankwaso running to win presidential election – NNPP

The New Nigeria Political Party (NNPP) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) says the party’s presidential candidate, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, is running to win the 2023 presidential election.

Spokesperson of the council, Ladipo Johnson said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

Johnson said he was reacting to a “campaign of calumny being orchestrated by those who have failed” the country.

“Ab initio, they initiated and carried rumours about Kwankwaso purportedly stepping down for their weak candidates.

Johnson decried the “antics of political jobbers”, saying there was probably no easy way for them to sell their candidates to Nigerians.

“These political jobbers are attempting to push their narratives by using pecuniary means to entice solitary NNPP or Kwankwasiyya members.

“They then staged ‘decamping shows where they paraded a few hired hands adorned with new red Kwankwasiyya caps, which they symbolically removed or threw away’.

“These people are jokers and should be seen as such,” he said.

Johnson said that Kwankwaso and NNPP were not only contesting the election, but also had clear strategy to win.

“RMK 2023 campaign is waxing stronger, as we head into the last 30 days of the campaign.

“Our candidate has reached over 400 local governments and he is going into the only state he has not been to, to campaign in the coming days.

“We repeat that we have a clear strategic path to victory and that, by God’s special grace, NNPP and Kwankwaso are going to win the election,” he said.

Johnson noted that it was certain that those he called expired politicians would continue to seek to buy the loyalty and votes of Nigerians and would not desist from their underhand tactics.

According to him, Kwankwaso has the competence, capacity and the political will to move Nigeria in the right direction, adding that he will deliver on the people’s mandate.

The Rabiu Kwakwanso Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has advised Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to adopt its candidate for the 2023 election.

Mr Kwakwanso is the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). The Kwakwanso PCC’s Coordinator, South-South, Chief Precious Elekimah, gave the advice in a statement he made available to newsmen in Abuja.

He said the country currently “requires a president without baggages and with the capacity to hit the ground running,” which his party’s candidate represented.

He said that Kwakwanso was without blemish and that he remained the person with the capacity to address the nation’s many challenges.

“Nigeria needs a leader, who will be able to, within a year, balance the exchange rate, because a country’s exchange rate is determined by its capacity to produce and sell.

“That is what our candidate will do, along with other measures to address existing challenges.

“To be candid, this country requires an urgent intervention, and that is where our candidate comes in,” he said.

Elekimah: ”we had a meeting on Saturday and about 13 coordinators from the PDP PCC attended.

“They expressed their fears that their efforts may be in vain in view of the weighty allegations against their candidate.

“We have assured them that we will accommodate them in the campaign structure and also in government when we win.

“We also told them that even their principal will be adequately taken care of”.

Elekimah, therefore, expressed optimism that Kwakwanso would win the Feb. 25 poll.

Kwankwaso’s coordinator dumps NNPP for PDP

Dr Babayo Liman, the Bauchi State Coordinator of the Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has dumped the party for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Liman, who is also the North-East Zonal Secretary of the party announced his resignation at a news conference on Monday in Bauchi.

“I want to formally inform the general public, especially members of the NNPP in Bauchi State, North-East and Nigeria at large, that I have resigned as a member of the NNPP.

“I have also resigned as the Zonal Secretary of the North-East as well as member and coordinator of the Presidential Campaign Council of the NNPP presidential candidate, Dr Rabiu Kwnkwaso.

“Let the general public know that I have withdrawn my membership from the NNPP,  I am no more with the NNPP from today,” he said.

He said that he ditched the NNPP for the PDP alongside large numbers of his supporters, adding that the party lacked structure to win elections in the country.

He said that his decision to switched camp also stemmed from internal crisis, flagrant disregard of the rule of law and lack of unity among members due to poor leadership of the party.

According to him, the NNPP’s leadership poorly managed its affairs resulting to emergence of various factions.

He, therefore, convassed votes for the PDP and its candidates at all levels in the forthcoming election.

Also speaking, Yusuf Marafa, Ward Chairman of the PDP, Makama Sarkin-Baki in Bauchi Local Government Area of the state, welcomed the defectors.

He described PDP  as the most organised party than any other political party, and conducted its affairs like a family.

He pledged that the party would accommodate and ensure equal treatment of its members.

  • 2023: Kwankwaso regrets not forming alliance with Peter Obi

2023: Kwankwaso regrets not forming alliance with Peter Obi

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the 2023 presidential election has expressed regret the alliance between his party and that of Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party, did not materialize.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Kwankwaso, a former Governor of Kano State, expressed his regret when he was featured on the Editors Forum, an initiative of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and senior journalists held in Lagos State on Sunday.

“I thought the alliance would be good. If we had done that nobody will be talking about a second ballot in 2023. At our discussions the issue was who will be the presidential candidate and vice presidential candidate. Both parties raised negotiation committees. Our team was led by Buba Galadima.  The committees looked at age, educational qualification, office held and experience.

“At the end the other committee did not want to go with this, they talked about power shifting to the South and to the South-East. Nigeria has gone beyond that, nobody can be president of Nigeria now based on ethnic and regional considerations,” he said.

Senator Kwankwaso dismissed suggestions that he was being pressured to step down for the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

“That rumour is coming from detractors; it is just wishful thinking. NNPP is all out to win the 2023 election and there is nothing anyone can do about it. I know l will get the required numbers,” Kwankwaso boasted.

Speaking at the forum, the NNPP presidential candidate stressed that only good leaders can sincerely restructure Nigeria toward national unity and development.

The former Kano Governor stressed that restructuring was only possible if there were good leaders committed to uniting Nigerians and upgrading security, economy, education, among others.

“If elected President, I will listen to Nigerians on the subject. I will be open to discussions and negotiations and also consider adjustments capable of moving the country forward.

“We are not going to be rigid on restructuring, especially in the areas of insecurity, economy and education. These three are crucial for development to take place,” he said.

Kwankwaso expressed worry and concern over insecurity and regretted that the north had been worst hit.

“So many people have lost their lives and means of livelihood; some are in the hospitals while some are internally displaced and cannot work.

“We believe that there must be security for us to experience progress and development.

“After studying the level of insecurity in the country, I believe that there is the need to recruit more military personnel.

“Considering the ratio of civilians to military personnel, there is need to increase the number of personnel in the armed forces. We need a minimum of one million.”

Reeling out some of his achievements as a two-term governor, Kwankwaso said he paid special attention to human capital development and educational advancement.

“We built universities and also established 26 academic and manpower development training institutes. Through these institutes, over 360,000 youth and women were trained and empowered.

“We also gave free lunch to students, gave scholarships to 370 outstanding students, and 148 full time scholarships to Nigerian students all over the country,” he said.

Kwankwaso assured Nigerians that such strides would continue if he became head of state in 2023.

Also speaking, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, NNPP’s Founder and Chairman, Board of Trustees(BOT), expressed confidence that Kwankwaso would be the next president of Nigeria.

He urged Nigerians to join the party in order to build a new country of their dream.

Earlier in an opening remark, NGE  President Mustapha Isah had said that the forum was interested in knowing the candidate’s plans for the country so that the people could make informed choices.

Isah said that the forum would host all presidential candidates while urging all of them to address key issues that concern the people and avoid attacks on individuals.

He also cautioned against false claims aimed at misleading the electorate.

“The Nigerian Guild of Editors pleads with politicians to avoid attacks on individuals They should, rather, focus on the real issues that concern the ordinary people.

“I also urge the presidential candidates to call their spokespersons to order as some of their press statements and interviews are heating up the polity.

“On our part, we pledge to be neutral. Nigeria must get it right next year and we want issues-based campaigns,” he said.

On Kwankwaso’s entourage were the BOT Secretary, Galadima, Ladipo Johnson, Dr Kelechukwu Nnamani, Kazeem Mustapha, Prince Ademola Ayoud, Mr Muyiwa Jatterson, among others.

2023: Afenifere splits further, another group emerges, endorses Kwankwaso

A group of persons in the Afenire pan-Yoruba socio-political group, has emerged with the name the’ New Afenifere’.

The leaders of the group  had a meeting with the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Sunday.

In the meeting, the splinter group endorsed the candidacy of Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Findings show that the division within the camp of Afenifere has deepened recently after the group purportedly endorsed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Meanwhile. the acting Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, is backing the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi.

As a result of the division in Afenifere, another group known as New Afenifere has emerged and is supporting Kwankwaso.

The Coordinator of New Afenifere, Comrade Ajibade Adeyeye stressed that his group has chosen to identify with the NNPP presidential candidate because of his track record.

“The New Afenifere hereby states that we are concerned socio-political umbrella known as New Afenifere and I dare say we have decided to take our future into our hands to prepare for the upcoming 2023 election. We have called on our elder statesmen not to impose on us anymore but to allow us to choose our preferred presidential candidate because we believe we are old enough to make decisions for ourselves and for our future.

“So, on behalf of the New Afenifere, we have decided to forge ahead and endorse the candidature of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, together with his running mate, Bishop Isaac Idahosa to see toward a new Nigeria.”

The NNPP presidential candidate welcomed the endorsement and promised to run an inclusive government, stressing his party would salvage the country from the challenges bedevelling it.

Afenifere was formed as a socio-cultural organization for the Yoruba people of Nigeria, with Chief Abraham Adesanya as its leader and Chief Bola Ige as deputy leader.

    2023: We’re happy Wike didn’t get PDP’s presidential ticket – Kwakwanso

Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso has said he is happy that both People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) did not give their presidential tickets to Nyesom Wike and David Umahi.

Kwankwaso said this on Wednesday in Abakaliki during an interactive session with newsmen during a visit to Ebonyi while enjoining Nigerians to shun tribal and religious sentiments by voting for competent candidates in the 2023 general election.

“We are happy that both Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) did not give their presidential tickets to performers such as Gov. David Umahi and Nyesom Wike of Rivers.

“That was our prayers during their primaries and such had been granted. We are therefore the party to beat at the national level and the one the country needs at this trying period of its existence,” he said.

The former Kano governor said Umahi in particular should have been in NNPP where performers belonged.

“Umahi was in a haste to leave PDP as the concerns he raised are more in the ruling party. I visited him on coming to Ebonyi because we enjoyed a strong relationship that lasted long.

“Party is important but good relationship is more important. The last time I visited Ebonyi, I spent days with him at his hometown and presently that he is not around, I will spend the night in the state,” he said.

Eric Igwe, Ebonyi Deputy Governor, who received Kwakwanso on behalf of Umahi, said the visit was significant.

Igwe said it might sound strange that the NNPP presidential candidate was visiting a staunch APC governor but such relationship transcended party affiliations.

“You both share several things in common: performers in office, celebrated politicians, passion for the country among others” he said.

He that no individual can stop it, if God has destined that Kwakwanso would be the next president, urging him however, to support the APC candidate for uptimal result.

Kwakwanso inuagurated his campaign office in Abakaliki and addressed the party’s supporters. He was accompanied by Social Critic, Buba Galadima among other party bigwigs.

Kwankwaso boast of defeating Atiku, Tinubu in 2023 election

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has boasted of defeating both Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 presidential poll.

He made this known at the inauguration of the Kano State NNPP campaign office on Sunday.

According to Kwankwaso, “This crowd signifies the need and urge for new leadership, not only in the state but the country at large. The biggest surprise will come when our party, the NNPP wins the 2023 presidential election, God willing.”

He said, “Those of you supposed to be in primary school will have access to free education, the university students will be back to school, while outstanding secondary students stand the opportunity for scholarship in both Nigeria and foreign universities.”

Party supporters, candidates, businessmen and celebrities defied the scorching heat as they waited for Kwankwaso, chanting his name; a situation that caused major roads in Kano city to stand still.

“I wish to use this opportunity to introduce to you our candidates for the various elective positions in Kano before I come back during campaigns. We have the most qualified candidates for both executive and legislative positions,” he said.

  • 2023: We are open to merger – NNPP National Chairman

2023: We are open to merger – NNPP National Chairman

Prof Rufa’i Alkali, National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Wednesday said the party was open to alliances ahead of the 2023 general election.

Alkali, a former presidential adviser on political affairs to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, disclosed this in Lagos at a news conference.

According to him, the party is not aversed to negotiations toward building the country.

“Parties who want to discuss with the  NNPP must do so as an equal partner and must share our views on the future of the country.

“All parties are equal before the law. We are talking about the future of Nigeria,” Alkali, a former national publicity secretary of the PDP said.

He decried the lack of sophistication in political negotiations in Nigeria, saying that people should not come to a negotiation with sole option that the NNPP Presidential Candidate, Sen. Rabiu  Kwankwaso should step down his ambition for them.

According to him, when a party sits down to negotiate, they have to first try to understand themselves: what is it that they share in common–ideals, vision, manifestos, aims and objectives to work together.

He added that parties should also agree on the level of the alliance either at the house of assembly, representatives, senate, governorship or presidential.

“In politics we talk about capacity.”

The chairman, however, said that Nigeria cannot afford to make mistakes in 2023, stating that the NNPP would usher in fresh ideas on building the nation’s economy if elected.

“NNPP is a Nigeria project and will usher in a spontaneous change in the nation’s polity,” he added.

He noted that the NNPP remained the fastest growing political party in Nigeria and would soon get the support of majority of Nigerians nationwide.

He said the NNPP would remain consistent with its principles which were to better the lives of the Nigerian masses.

On power rotation, the scholar said that the concept of zoning is the bane of the nation’s polity.

“What Nigeria needs is leadership that people can trust and will deliver,” Alkali, a professor of political science and economy said.

On Muslim Muslim ticket, the chairman said it was the prerogative of the candidate to choose his or her running mate, noting that what should matter most should be tackling Nigeria’s challenges.

He added: “If we want this country to change we must move beyond zoning and religious discussions.

“We have passed the stage of contradictions of zoning and religious sentiments.”

Shekarau: NNPP won’t be dragged into unnecessary controversy – National Chairman

On the defection of Sen. Ibrahim Shekarau, one of its chieftains in Kano, Prof Alkali said the NNPP will not be dragged into unnecessary controversies.

Recall that Shekarau, a former Kano State governor, who joined NNPP recently from the ruling APC, dumped the party on Monday and said he would tell his supporters their next move over perceived injustice.

Reacting to the development, Alkali, a former presidential adviser on political affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, told newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday that the party respected the Shekarau’s judgment.

“On Shekarau, we respect his judgment but will not allow the NNPP to be dragged into unnecessary controversy. We have great respect for him and he is also a person who believes in a better country. We respect his decision, whatever he has decided for himself,” Alkali said.

The party chairman, however, said that the party was still talking to Shekarau.

“What is important again in politics is that if you lose, you will gain. It doesn’t mean a total loss, whatever happened, it doesn’t mean a total loss, it may be a setback.

“But for now, the situation is that we are discussing with him (Shekarau). We are sure that case is not over until it is over.

“The party is working in every state of the federation to ensure that wherever there are problems, we handle those problems,” he said.

He said that the party had in place,  a reconciliation committee at the national and zonal levels to resolve all perceived disagreements.

Alkali said that the party’s door remained open to all who were ready to sacrifice for the nation rather than dealing merchants.

Speaking on Nigeria’s security challenges, the NNPP boss said that the challenges were surmountable.

Alkali, who is also the former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said that NNPP would tackle  security, economic, education and other challenges giving Nigerians sleepless night.

According to him, the party, if elected in 2023, will ensure improved security to tackle various socio-economic challenges facing the country.

The chairman, who described Nigeria’s problems as being interconnected, said that NNPP would return  Nigeria to a  24 hours economy hub by improving on security.

The scholar, who decried the politicisation of security, expressed optimism that the nation’s economy would  boom again as soon as insecurity challenges were addressed.

“If we want to bring back everything in the country today, it is security.

“Again, we cannot usher in  security without employment and education. The bottom line is that, first the country must understand that it has to be holistic.

“These are solutions to the problems and I know they can be solved.”

He said that the party’s  robust plans for security and economy would be revealed to the public in due course.
