Ronaldo declared Man Utd appointing Rangnick ‘a disaster’

Cristiano Ronaldo has been shocked by the state of Manchester United, according to a new book.

The book, Messi vs Ronaldo: One Rivalry, Two GOATs, and the Era That Remade the World’s Game, which goes into detail on his illustrious career has revealed all, according to The Sun.

It revels that Ronaldo was unhappy with interim head coach Ralf Rangnick, confessing ‘this is a disaster’ to an executive at a FIFA event.

That is just one of the things that have made life hard for Ronaldo since returning, as he was angry at the lack of investment into the Carrington training ground, while very annoyed that the club has not evolved since his departure over a decade ago.

Above all else, he also appeared very shocked at the players level of commitment to remain in top level condition.

Despite all of that, Ronaldo was United’s top goalscorer at the club last season, notching 24 goals in all competitions across 39 matches, despite still appearing a frustrated figure.

Ten Hag gives first statement as new Man Utd coach

New Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag gave his first press conference on Monday, speaking with journalists about the expectations at the club.

TheNewsGuru reports that Ten Hag takes over from interim boss Ralf Rangnick, who could only guide United to 6th place in the Premier League.

Asked about the history of United, Ten Hag commented: “We don’t have to go over my football.

“It’s about the Man United football and about the Man United identity and philosophy. I think that you pointed it out: it has to be about attacking football. We have to bring structures in the way of playing, so we can play attacking football.”

He added: “Of course. I know the history of Man United, I know the big times and the audience, the vibe that can be around Old Trafford. I watched them in their big times, when Sir Alex Ferguson was manager, during the really successful times when they won titles and were dominating Europe.

“But also before Sir Alex, Man United was a really big club and I know names like Busby and Charlton that gave Man United a presence to the outside world from winning, and winning in a spectacular way, winning so they entertain people. What stays with me is there was always a fighting culture. They fight together and they get success.”

Man Utd couldn’t find way to stop Brighton – Rangnick admits

Manchester United caretaker manager, Ralf Rangnick has admitted his team could not find a way out in defeat to Brighton.

TheNewsGuru reports that United was hammered 4-0 at Falmer stadium.

Rangnick said, “Yes it was [a poor performance]. From the first to the last minute this was not enough and in all-important areas we were second best. To start with we can only apologise to our supporters, it was a terrible performance and a humiliating defeat. It was a completely different game and today from the first minute we allowed them too much time, too much space and we were never able to be in a position to stop them playing through our lines.

“The game plan was completely different, we told the players to be as compact as we could possibly be but we couldn’t stop them.

“We had big problems with their width through their wing-backs, we couldn’t stop their wing-backs as they were always pretty high and wide. For us it was whenever they played the diagonal ball we struggled with those balls although we told our full-backs that they should get out earlier.

“It was very, very difficult to stop them in the first half at all and in the second half we took the risk to bring Edi [Cavani] on as a second striker and Fred and went to a 4-4-2. In hindsight it was maybe a little bit of a risk to play a 4-4-2 against them, but we had to try and change the energy. Today we were second best in all relevant areas.”

  • Man Utd board refused to buy striker in January – Rangnick

Man Utd board refused to buy striker in January – Rangnick

Manchester United caretaker manager, Ralf Rangnick has accused the club management of refusing to add another player to the strike force.

United loaned Anthony Martial to Sevilla, Edinson Cavani was struggling with an injury and Mason Greenwood was unavailable for selection.

TheNewsGuru reports that Rangnick has highlighted “a few” strikers who moved in the window.

“The answer at the time was no, there is no player on the market that can really help us,” he said.

“I still believe we should have tried in those 48 hours,” said Rangnick. “The board sees it the same way. They agreed. But they also spoke to the scouting department at the same time as me. The answer was no.”

Rangnick points to Luis Diaz, who joined Liverpool on 30 January, Dusan Vlahovic who moved to Juventus on 29 January and Julien Alvarez who will move to Manchester City in the summer after agreeing a deal on 31 January.

Asked if he could have signed those players, he said “I don’t know. But as I said, maybe we should have at least internally discussed it.”

At the time, United were still in the FA Cup and the Champions League and were favourites to secure a place in the top four.

Two years earlier, they had gone into the January market to sign Odion Ighalo on loan when then boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had his forward options restricted through injury.

“Maybe I should have pushed even more,” said Rangnick.

“It would have been short notice but 48 hours is 48 hours. It might have been at least worth to try and internally discuss it. It might be necessary and important. We didn’t. It was not done.”

  • Rangnick reveals number of new strikers Man Utd need

Rangnick reveals number of new strikers Man Utd need

Manchester United caretaker boss Ralf Rangnick says they need as many as three new strikers this summer.

Erik ten Hag will leave Ajax for United at the end of the season.

Many believe United are not as hard-working off the ball when he is in the side, which could pose a problem for the new boss given his philosophy to press from the front.

When asked about the 37-year-old’s future, Rangnick said: “This is a question you need to ask Erik ten Hag. He’s showed that he can still be a vital part of this team, but it’s obvious the team needs some more strikers.”

Amongst others, United have been linked with moves for Tottenham frontman Harry Kane and Benfica forward Darwin Nunez, and Rangnick added: “There should be two or three new strikers next season, it’s pretty obvious.”

  • My players don’t get along with each other – Man Utd coach, Rangnick

My players don’t get along with each other – Man Utd coach, Rangnick

Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick admits his players don’t get on well with each other.

United suffered another dent in their quest for Champions League football next season following a 3-1 defeat away to fourth-placed Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.

And Rangnick, United interim manager, stated: “Obviously, after games like today or the game at Liverpool or Everton, there is massive disappointment in the locker room for sure.

“This is normal. It would be rather a problem if that was different. This is for me normal.

“But, I think the whole group, they get on reasonably with each other. I’m not daring to say they get on well with each other.

“But, I don’t see that there is an issue with regard to the atmosphere in the locker room.”

Rangnick admits Man Utd Champions League hopes ‘gone’

Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick has admitted that the Red Devils’ hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League are over.

Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Arsenal moved the fourth-placed Gunners six points clear of United, who are sixth.

Arsenal have five games to play while United – seeking a third straight year in Europe’s premier club competition – have four and look like missing out.

“For me, even before the game it was not very likely, but after today’s result it is gone, yes,” said Rangnick.

Nuno Tavares’ opener and a Bukayo Saka penalty put Arsenal 2-0 up, before Cristiano Ronaldo replied with his 100th Premier League goal.

Bruno Fernandes wasted the chance of a deserved equaliser as he dragged a second-half penalty against a post, before Granit Xhaka condemned United to their second loss in five days.

  • Why I wanted to leave Man Utd the day Rangnick arrived – Martial

Why I wanted to leave Man Utd the day Rangnick arrived – Martial

Anthony Martial has revealed that he did not wait to see how things would change under Ralf Rangnick when the interim coach arrived Old Trafford.

Martial had already made up his mind about leaving Manchester United in the January transfer window, after struggling for game time early in the campaign.

While those struggles came under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Martial states in a recent interview that an eventual loan move to Sevilla was on his mind from the day Rangnick arrived.

“When he arrived, my objective was to leave,” Martial told The Guardian.

“I told him I wanted to leave and that’s it. He talked to me. He said that if you want to stay, with the way you are training if you continue to train like that, you will play. But my objective was that I wanted to leave, to have a new atmosphere, a new club.”

The French forward has a contract with United until 2024, but he added: “I asked United to leave because I wanted to play but I still have a contract. They know what I want, so we will see at the end of the season. I’m here just for the end of the season and that’s it.”

  • ‘Rangnick decided to ruin our Sunday’ – Ronaldo’s sister slams coach

‘Rangnick decided to ruin our Sunday’ – Ronaldo’s sister slams coach

The sister of Cristiano Ronaldo has intimated he wasn’t injured as he missed Manchester United’s defeat at Manchester City.

A hip flexor injury saw the 37-year-old ruled out of Sunday’s 4-1 thrashing and Ronaldo flew to his homeland on Sunday before kick-off at The Etihad stadium.

Roy Keane claimed that there was more to Ronaldo’s absence than just injury. Those suspicions were fuelled further by Ronaldo’s sister Katia liking a post on Instagram saying that he wasn’t injured.

The post, from a Ronaldo fan account which is followed by the man himself, emerged on Sunday prior to kick-off and said: “Cristiano Ronaldo is not injured and is not sick. The man is 100%.

“Good morning to you who, like me, are sad and angry because Rangnick decided to ruin our Sunday by taking CR7 out of the derby against Manchester City simply for tactical reasons, to defend himself more in the game.”

  • Man Utd need clear identity like Liverpool, Man City – Rangnick

Man Utd need clear identity like Liverpool, Man City – Rangnick

Manchester United Interim manager, Ralf Rangnick believes the Red Devils need to develop the kind of “clear identity” established by the likes of rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.

All eyes will be on the Etihad Stadium this Sunday for the 187th all-Manchester encounter as the German leads his side to the reigning Premier League champions and current leaders.

Rangnick was brought in as interim manager for the rest of the season following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking in November.

The experienced German is due to start a two-year consultancy role at the club in the summer.

The 63-year-old has not ruled himself out of the running for the role as permanent manager.

This is a position he says Manchester City and second-placed Liverpool have reaped enormous rewards from getting right.

“I don’t even know the structure or the set-up at Manchester City,” he said when asked about Manchester United’s situation compared to Sunday’s opponents. “I know most of the people here in our club.

“My focus was, and still is, on developing the current team and getting the best out of this season.

“What is obvious, not only with Manchester City but also with Liverpool, (is that) they’ve had continuity and consistency on the position of their manager, their head coach, for the past five or six years.

“They have a very clear identity, a clear idea of how they want to play.

“I know Jürgen (Klopp) in person and I also know Pep (Guardiola) from those three years in Germany when he was head coach of Bayern Munich. He also has a clear idea how he wants to play.

“This idea is the headline for everything that happens in the club —- for recruitment, for any new players that they sign, or even for players that they at one stage will sell.

“This is, I think, the secret behind their success, that they exactly know how they want to play.

“They have a clear identity, or you can also call it a corporate identity, and this is their guideline for everything what they do.

“Not only probably for new players but also for staff members, for experts in different areas of the game that have become a bit more important in the last 10 to 15 years.

“This is what all the top clubs in Europe have in common. This is something that I think also at Manchester United needs to be developed and improved in the next couple of years.”

Manchester United have a surprisingly good record at Manchester City in recent years and Rangnick has been boosted heading into the derby by the return of Edinson Cavani.

The 35-year-old has not featured since the 1-1 draw at Burnley on Feb. 8, with a groin issue ruling him out of the five straight matches.

The return of striker Cavani is a boost given Manchester United’s struggles converting in recent weeks.

Rangnick’s men had 22 shots without finding the net in last Saturday’s 0-0 draw with relegation-threatened Watford.

Cristiano Ronaldo has managed just one goal in 10 games and will be desperate to get back on the scoresheet on Sunday.

“We know that we are playing against one of the best, if not the best team in Europe and the world,” Rangnick said.

“That’s why it will be about tactical discipline. A lot of defensive work will be necessary, a lot of sprinting, running, against the ball, with the ball, waiting for transition and then taking our chances.

“We created enough in our last 10, 11 games. Some times we converted them, like at Leeds United, where we scored four goals.

“But it’s correct we should have scored more goals, especially in the last game against Watford. We should have scored at least one, two, three goals in order to win the game.

“But I will be more worried actually if we didn’t create chances.”
