Rangnick reveals full Man Utd squad to face Newcastle

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has a full squad training at the moment – except for Paul Pogba.

The Red Devils are looking forward to Monday’s clash with Newcastle United, having had their last two games postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak.

Rangnick had just 11 available players seven days ago, but he now has a full squad to pick from, except for Paul Pogba, who has been injured since November.

“Yes, as you know, we had last week, the last training session on Thursday, on that day we had eight outfield players and three goalkeepers and then we closed down the training ground for four days in order to break the chain,” Rangnick told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

“Today was the third day of training this week, we started on Tuesday, we trained yesterday and today.

“Today we had 25 outfield players. Paul Pogba is the only one missing, everyone else was on board. The development in the last week was extremely positive.”

Martial meets with Rangnick to discuss Man Utd future

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has held talks with manager Ralf Rangnick about his situation.

The 26-year old Frenchman is keen on a move to Sevilla after growing frustrated with his lack of starts at United this season.

His agent Philippe Lamboley irritated Rangnick earlier this month by going public with his client’s desire to leave prior to discussing it with the United boss.

A knee injury ruled Martial out of United’s games with Crystal Palace and Norwich City but he was at United’s training ground on Wednesday for his afternoon chat with Rangnick hoping to resolve his future, says the Daily Mail.

Rangnick has already declared that he does not see a need to convince players to stay at United and that his squad is too big.

Sevilla would want a loan deal for Martial and United must decide if that suits them with plenty of competition for two places up front.

Man Utd manager Rangnick receives sack notice

Manchester United boss, Ralf Rangnick has been told he would have to find another job if the club fails to finish in the top four this season.

The Reds lay sixth in the table but could leapfrog fourth-placed Arsenal if they win their outstanding matches.

And former Arsenal winger, Perry Groves has issued a condition to the German saying it is either a top four finish or the manager would have no business remaining at Old Trafford.

There is pressure on Rangnick to deliver having the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and a host of other top stars at his disposal.

“Manchester United should be nailed on for the [top four],” the former Arsenal winger told talkSPORT.

“If Ralf Rangnick doesn’t get Manchester United fourth, he shouln’t be anywhere near Manchester United.”

Manchester United’s outstanding matches include an away game to Newcastle United and home clashes against Burnley and Wolves.

  • Rangnick will be in a hurry at Man Utd – Zorniger

Rangnick will be in a hurry at Man Utd – Zorniger

Apollon Limassol coach Alexander Zorniger insists Ralf Rangnick will make the most of his chance at Manchester United.

In 2012, Zorniger was the man chosen to take charge at RB Leipzig by Rangnick, who sold him the project during an intense four-hour chat. Soon, 7am phone calls would become the norm.

“Ralf hates wasting time – he wants to make the next steps,” Zorniger tells BBC Sport. “If someone is thinking right now in Manchester United ‘well, it will take three or four years and then you will see the first influence’, no chance. If people are not doing what he expects, then he will replace them.

“He is the most improving professional I ever met. Every day he is checking everything: ‘Is that still state of the art? Do we need to improve something?’

“He always says football is a picture with 100 puzzle pieces and we should be able to provide all the 100 pieces to the players to become better players. That is what he is doing regarding nutrition, mental preparation, physical needs, physiotherapy, even checking hand-eye coordination, kinetics.”

He also said, “Ralf has always had the possibility to change everything.

“In Hoffenheim and Leipzig, he implemented a new coaching team, new players, a new medical department, a new scouting team.

“He doesn’t have these possibilities right now in Manchester United. These old, traditional clubs, they have an old, difficult network – and to open up and create new structures can be something really difficult.

“When he was appointed manager of Stuttgart in 1999, that was the first time he had to manage big players, and he was struggling because they didn’t follow everything he thought might be a good idea. But he has more experience as a coach now and knows exactly where he can change things immediately and where it takes a little while.”

Transfer: Speak to me not your agent – Rangnick tells Martial

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has warned Anthony Martial he doesn’t appreciate the Frenchman’s agent speaking for him.

Martial’s agent, Philippe Lamboley, said on Friday Martial wants a transfer in the January transfer window and that he would ‘speak to the club soon’.

United manager Rangnick dismissed Lamboley’s public comments and advised Martial that he should tell the club if he wants to leave.

“I don’t communicate with agents via the media and press,” Rangnick said. “The player hasn’t spoken with me or us about it.

“After the final training session before the Crystal Palace game, after having trained with team, he informed the doctor and the medical department that he would not be available because the pain in his knee is too big. We have to wait and see.

“Maybe he can train again [on Sunday] but I have to speak to the doctor first. To be honest, what his agent says via the media is not of that much interest to me.”

When asked if he would speak to Martial for his version of events, Rangnick replied: “No. Then I would react to what his agent has said and it should be the player.

“If he really has the wish to go to another club it should be the player who informs either the board or myself. I have never spoken about a player via the media and via agents.”

Rangnick reveals Man Utd’s major problem after Norwich win

Manchester United manager, Ralf Rangnick has identified his side’s major problem following their 1-0 win over Norwich City in a Premier League tie on Saturday night.

Man United defeated Norwich at Carrow Road, thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s second-half penalty.

But Rangnick believes the ‘physicality’ of his Man United players was a ‘major issue’ in their victory over Norwich.

According to him, he told his players to step up the ‘intensity’ after a sluggish first half against the host.

“It was a very intense game, very physical. They played well, they didn’t play like a bottom team. We had some problems in the first 15 minutes,’ Rangnick told Match of the Day.

“From the start, we controlled the game but didn’t always have the best possible solutions. Defensively we did well, tactically in the first half, we didn’t allow them to have too many shots or chances.

“At half time, I told the boys we needed to increase the speed and intensity of the game. The second half was a little bit better, but at the end we were lucky to have a clean sheet and there were two or three clean sheets by David De Gea.

“It’s another clean sheet but still a lot of work to do.

“The second half I was not at all happy with the amount of corners that we gave away, but we got the three points.

“We have conceded the highest amount of goals in the top ten. Now we have two clean sheets, which is good, but we still need to improve on that away, especially against physical teams or teams that attack high like Norwich did.

“It’s also a question of body language and physicality and this was one of the major issues that we could have done better.”

Man United will now face Brentford in their next game on Tuesday.

  • We shouldn’t be trying to convince Pogba to stay – Rangnick

We shouldn’t be trying to convince Pogba to stay – Rangnick

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick says he doesn’t want to work with Paul Pogba if he doesn’t want to stay.

As his contract runs down, Pogba has been linked with both Real Madrid and Juventus in the New Year. Rangnick won’t stand in the France international’s way if he wants to leave.

He said: “I wouldn’t say he is not worth keeping but players need to want to stay and play for the club.

“If a player doesn’t want to play for a club like Manchester United, even in the long term, I don’t think it makes sense to convince him to change his mind.

“This is such a massive club, with fantastic support, I don’t think anyone at the club should try to convince a player to stay.

“Let’s have him come back, get fully fit and training with the team, then we will see where we stand.”

Rangnick lists key players to sign as Man Utd coach

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has told directors their midfield is too weak.

Rangnick impressed football director John Murtough, technical director Darren Fletcher and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward during talks for the temporary role, where he pointed out where the team needed to improve to get them back to winning titles again.

ESPN says Rangnick is said to have earmarked RB Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara, Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham and Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips as potential targets in the transfer window.

Dortmund striker Erling Haaland is also another key target United should be pursuing next summer.

United are willing to back Rangnick in the January transfer window but both manager and club are expecting it to be fairly quiet, with players leaving the club higher on the agenda.

  • Man Utd players better than I expected – Rangnick

Man Utd players better than I expected – Rangnick

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick admits the players he’s inherited are better than he expected.

Fred scored the only goal as United delivered Rangnick a debut win as manager against Crystal Palace.

Rangnick said: “To be honest, I was positively surprised by the physical state, intensity and performance of the players.

“Not only did we play in the late kick-off on Thursday, but we also had two days fewer than Crystal Palace to recover.

“I didn’t expect us to play at that level after only one-and-a-half training days together with them.

“It’s always easier to build on things when you’re successful.

“I want the players to believe in this kind of football.

“We continue in this direction, produce further clean sheets, and get better at creating chances ourselves.

“There is still space for improvement but today was more important for me to see how they played against the ball.”

  • Rangnick recruits sports psychologist for Man Utd

Rangnick recruits sports psychologist for Man Utd

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick is set to add sports psychologist Sascha Lense to his staff.

Lense was introduced to players at United’s Carrington training base on Monday, per the Daily Mail.

The 46-year-old former midfielder previously worked with Rangnick at Schalke and Red Bull Leipzig.

He will have to wait for clearance on his visa before he can begin working with the United squad.

Former Toronto FC coach Chris Armas has also joined Rangnick’s staff at Old Trafford.

Rangnick is expected to confirm the new additions in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

The Red Devils are set to host Young Boys the following day.
