Recall that some reports in some traditions and online media claimed that people accuse some workers of the institution for  sexually harassing and raping female undergraduates.

A post from a concerned person concerning the rape matter on social media reads @_Otitoo, called for urgent intervention to prevent a situation that would lead to the death of a student.

The post read, “CU girls are being raped and nothing is being done about it. Do something now. We don’t want to see your candles after we lose another girl.”

The screenshot of another message that was also shared on Twitter alleged that workers of the school were raping students who broke rules of the institution, adding that a student who got pregnant for a worker got expelled.

The message read, “The staff in Covenant University are raping the students. They’ll set stupid rules and if the students should break them, they’ll sleep with them in exchange for their studentship.

“A girl is in a coma now. She did an abortion for the head of the students’ disciplinary council. He got her pregnant and still expelled her.

“So many students there are being abused. It’s a Christian University for crying out loud. Covenant University has hidden so many deaths. They’ve expelled so many students for trying to speak up for their rights.”

  • NANS reinstates Opeoluwa Awoyinfa as PRO after clearing him of rape allegations

NANS reinstates Opeoluwa Awoyinfa as PRO after clearing him of rape allegations

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, South-West Zone, has reinstated Opeoluwa Awoyinfa as its Public Relations Officer, after clearing him of rape allegations that went viral on social media.

Awoyinfa was said to have on August 10 suspended following the controversy of alleged sexual assault involving him and a female student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, which a committee was set up to probe into the allegations.

In a statement made available on Wednesday, signed by the Coordinator of the zone, Adegboye Emmanuel, the student body revealed that the Association had reinstated Awoyinfa as its Public Relations Officer, having been cleared of the allegation in the report tendered by the five-man committee.

Recall that the lady in question also debunked the issue of rape, saying she only had some issues with Awoyinfa, who was her boyfriend, and that the issue was being resolved.

According to the statement: “After a careful analysis of the report that was submitted to the leadership of the zone by the committee that was set up to look into the allegation of rape and attempt to blackmail raised against Awoyinfa Opeoluwa (the PRO of the zone as he then was), we have come to realise that the allegations were nothing but a result of the widest imagination of the writer which in turn had a negative effect on both Awoyinfa, the said lady in question, the Nigerian Police Force and NANS as a body.

“In the report, it was gathered that all that transpired between the duo was a disagreement that had to be put to rest before eventually going their separate ways. It was also learnt that the writer and his accomplice after their arrest by the police in Akure had since apologised to the duo via the same platform the misleading news was conveyed to the public (Twitter) and space was held to clarify issues and to also recount all he wrote against the duo.

“It is based on the foregoing that the leadership of the zone, hereby, lift the suspension that was placed on Awoyinfa as the PRO of the zone.

“For the record, the suspension was borne out of the need to lead by example and to showcase the non-tolerance of the association to rape and every social vice. As an Association, we believe that suspending him would make the committee discharge their duties efficiently without any interference, fear or favour.

“Conclusively, we reiterate our zero-tolerance TO rape and Gender-Based Violence in society. We also warn purveyors of fake news to do away from it and to verify every source of information thoroughly.”

TheNewsGuru.com reports that NANS has fixed Saturday, August 27, 2022, for elections into various leadership positions.

  • Autopsy report faults rape allegation in Abuja student’s death

Autopsy report faults rape allegation in Abuja student’s death

The controversy surrounding the death of Keren Akpagher, a student at Premiere Academy, Lugbe, Abuja, seems to have been laid to rest following the release of the interim autopsy report by the Nigeria Police Force, which confirmed that she died of complications related to high blood sugar.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command had on September 8, invited Akpagher’s family, officials of Premiere Academy and medical team of the Queens Hospital, Wuse, Abuja, where she was admitted before her death, to read the report of the autopsy to them.

According to persons privy to the meeting, the autopsy report contradicted the claim that she died of sepsis as a result of “decayed condom” found in her, which had raised concerns that she might have been a victim of sexual assault.

A now discredited medical report from Queens Hospital, Wuse, Abuja, where she died, had claimed that there was “copious thick milky discharge and expression of rubbery material (condom) from the vagina when (the doctor) attempted to pass a urethral catheter.”

However, the autopsy report, as released by the police and backed by two private consultant pathologists, found that the deceased’s vagina “was empty and contained no pus or any foreign material.”

According to autopsy, the “Urogenital system, comprising of the vulva, associated internal organs such as the vagina, uterine cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes together the right and left ovaries as well as the right and left kidneys together with their respective adrenal glands and the left and right ureters, were dissected out together and examined.

“The vagina was about 9.5 cm long and 8 cm at its widest point, near its vault.

“It was empty and contained no pus or any foreign material.”

The report went on to add: “The mucosal lining displayed the normal and usual transverse ridges and the lining was smooth and clean. It displayed no lacerations or excoriations of any sort.”

The post-mortem also examined the uterine cervix and found that “it was conical and closed.

“Its external opening (external os) was tightly closed and round.

“The covering is clean, displaying no lacerations or excoriations.

“The canal of the cervix (endocervical canal) is empty and contained no foreign body material.

“The internal opening (internal os) was unremarkable.”

The summary of the autopsy fingered severe high blood sugar of 435.6 mg/dl, triggering acute cerebral oedema, acute pulmonary oedema and acute liver congestion as cause of death and not sepsis, as claimed by Queens Hospital.

Authorities of Premiere Academy had always insisted that Keren’s blood sugar was effectively managed while she was in school.

The Matron of the school clinic, Grace Salami, disclosed that the deceased’s blood sugar level was 114 mg/dl and normal on the day she exited the school, leading to concerns that she didn’t take her daily insulin shots when went home two days before her hospitalisation and eventual death.

In a statement released on Monday, Premiere Academy stated the result of the autopsy was consistent with the position of the school that late Keren died from the mismanagement of her diabetic condition while at home.

“Once again, our hearts go out to the family, friends and well wishers of our dear late student, Miss Keren Akpagher… we pray that God comforts us all,” the statement added.
