The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) yesterday said to the best of its knowledge, the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) whose senior pastor, Biodun Fatoyinbo, was enmeshed in a rape scandal is not a member of any of the families that belong to CAN.
The apex Christian association stated in a statement titled “The position of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on the widespread allegations of rape against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA)” that it was worried about recurrent allegations of rape and infidelity against some gospel ministers and other Christians.
The position of the association which was issued in a statement signed by the association’s national director, legal and public affairs, Barr. Kwamkur Samuel Vondip, in Jos said it was deeply concerned about the ongoing rape allegation arising from a confessional statement by a former female member of COZA, Mrs. Bisola Dakolo against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo.
“While efforts must be made to get to the root of the matter through thorough investigation, the Association condemns totally any act of infidelity either by a pastor or any member of the church of God.
Immoral relationships with anybody in the society are against the teachings of the Bible and the church and we urge all believers all over the country to run away from them because, as the Bible says and we strongly believe, adulterers and fornicators God will judge (Heb. 13:4).”

TB Joshua raped and trapped me in his church –Woman alleges
A video has surfaced online in which a lady alleged she was raped by T.B Joshua, founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations.
Bisola Hephzi-bah Johnson, an activist, made the claim when she joined protesters who marched to the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Lagos.
TheNewsGuru recalls that Busola, wife of Timi Dakolo, a singer, had accused Biodun Fatoyinbo, founder of COZA, of raping her when she was a teenager.
Johnson said she was trapped in Joshua’s church for 14 years before “the Lord set me free”.
“This is not the time for making up (stories), this is the time to address. I am talking on behalf of other girls that are still in the captivity of TB Joshua. 8 years old, 14 years old and 11 years old, they are still there,” she said.
“Yes. I can say it because they have money, connections, they can put people down. Enough is enough, if he thinks I am lying, he can contest it in court.”
“I was sexually molested by T.B Joshua. I was trapped in the synagogue for 14-years of my life. I spent my youth in the synagogue until God set me free. If not for God, I will not be here today and I have documented it in book form.”

You must be investigated in spite stepping down, lawyers tell COZA Pastor
The Coalition of Public Interests Lawyers and Advocates (COPA) on Monday urged Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, to surrender himself for investigation having stepped down from the pulpit as senior pastor of the church.
Fatoyinbo had been the subject of discussion since last week after Mrs Busola Dakolo, wife of inspiration singer Timi Dakolo, accused him of raping her when she was 17 years.
He stepped down on Monday but still insisted that he had never raped anyone before, ‘not even as an unbeliever’. The allegation had elicited reactions from Nigerians, including those in the presidency.
However, Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi, Convener of COPA, in a statement on Monday commended Fatoyinbo for stepping down as senior pastor in COZA but urged him to take it a step further by reporting to the police for investigation.
“We at COPA are of the mind that while the above is a good way to start that, Mr Biodun Fatoyinbo must take a step further in the interest of addressing and assuaging public interest by reporting to the Nigeria Police Force voluntary, a truly neutral arbiter in this instance, to provide answers to public queries on the matter.
“This is in view of making sure that the results of the investigations from both the church committee and the Police, being independent sources, would satisfactorily put to rest all sundry issues generated by the intense rape allegations hanging over him.
“A man of clear conscience fears nothing and we hope that it would never come to the point where Mr Biodun Fatoyinbo is compelled beyond personal alacrity to do the needful and submit self to the Police for questioning.
“Needless to say that his status as a popular man of God and the issue of betrayal of fiduciary trust, infidelity and the crime of rape makes it imperative that no room is left for doubt to exist on his innocence of the claims against him, he said in the statement.
“Conversely, by voluntarily submitting himself to the Police for questioning, he makes a much needed statement in lieu of his claims to innocence.
“It also affords the public the opportunity to pursue further actions where it is established that he may in fact have criminal issues to answer to or not.”
Olajengbesi said that COPA would continue to monitor events as they unfold to ensure that no rights are abused, nor any process skewered to favour one party against the other in this matter.
The COPA Convener while urging the pastor not to slack in establishing his innocence, noted that where justice must be done, it must be manifestly seen to be done. -

A painful suicide – Francis Ewherido
By Francis Ewherido
Do not get me wrong; every incident of suicide is painful because it diminishes our human commonwealth, but I found this one particularly painful. I am talking of the death of Christabel Omore Buoro Owoicho, a 300-level student of the University of Benin. She was alleged to have committed suicide after being raped. She was reported to be introverted and a virgin at the time she was raped. Her suicide note is alleged to be incoherent; an alleged psychiatric situation is being insinuated. Details of her life and death are scanty, but I will make my deductions based on available information.
Rape has reached an epidemic proportion in Nigeria. Females, especially younger ones, no longer seem to have a safe haven. Rape is taking place in homes, religious organizations, schools, sports arenas, recreational parks and just about everywhere. Kidnappers and armed robbers are no longer contented with their monetary demands and gains. They rape and humiliate their female captives. They rape wives in the presence of their husbands, practically “castrating” the men. What can be more humiliating and heart-wrenching than your wife being raped in your presence, while you watch helplessly? There are reports of two-month-old babies being raped. I have been asking the question, how do you rape a two-month-old baby? What is that? Is there no other English word to capture this tragedy? The report did not tell us where and when Christabel was raped. Was he an admirer or a “toaster,” who had to resort to force and violence since he could not get it voluntarily? Was the culprit a serial rapist, who committed the act because Christabel was at the wrong place at the wrong time? He took away her virginity without her consent. Was Christabel waiting for her wedding night before surrendering her virginity to her future-never-to-be husband or she was just too busy with her studies to worry about amorous relationships. Whatever, she had the right to determine how she wanted to be deflowered and who she wanted to do it. That right was denied her by the rapist.
Did Christabel confide in anybody after the incident or kept it to herself as many rape victims do? Nobody prays for her ward to be raped, but maybe, we also need to start discussing handling the aftermath of rape with our wards. It is an awkward thing to do, but if someone had discussed how to handle post-rape trauma with Christabel, she would probably be alive now. We need to encourage our wards to be more open and forthcoming. So much is going on in young people’s lives; they need to understand that they are too young to deal with all of the issues; they simply do not have all the answers. They need help.
The rapist is still at large. Police said they are investigating. I will be more comforted if the police in America were to say this. By now they would have had the DNA profile of the rapist. Even if they are unable to solve the case now, they can still do it 50 years from now because the DNA profile will be in the data bank until they get a match. Other pieces of evidence will also be well preserved. Do our police have this capacity? The answer is no. Many of our police stations do not even have a single computer. If you see laptops, they are personally owned by the district police officer (DPO) or district crime officer (DCO).Beyond that, what motivates an average policeman in America and Nigeria? In America, it is excellence, good track record and legacy. By the time they retire, you see the twinkle in their eyes when they reminiscence on the cases they solved and crimes they busted. They might not have much in terms of money and physical assets. Some simply take up security-related jobs and life goes on. Some acquire fresh skills and move to other endeavours. But they remain proud of their time in the police force.
What about his counterpart in Nigeria? His primary motivation seems to be pecuniary gains. That is probably why 200,000 people will apply for 2000 job openings. As he commences his journey in the Police force, he is already on the road extorting money from hapless Nigerians. And pecuniary interest guides him throughout his career in the Nigerian Police Force. There are some very professional officers, but they are too few to make the critical difference that we urgently need.
The Nigerian environment can, however, not be exonerated from blame. In America, basic necessities are given for anybody who earns an income. That is not the case here. When policemen are injured or die in the line of duty, their entitlements are made available without delay in America. That is not the case here. When policemen retire or leave the force in America, they get their benefits without bribing or lobbying anybody. Our case is different. You cannot get an efficient police force in this kind of environment. Our environment notwithstanding, our policemen must realise that the police force is not a business organisation. If you want to compete with Aliko Dangote, the police force is a wrong place to be.
Whatever their challenges are, I urge the police to be at their best and track down the person who raped Christabel. After he is tracked down, investigation must be thoroughly conducted, leaving no loophole, so that they ca get a conviction. I have seen judges set guilty people free. The judge knows the person is guilty, but she is unable to pronounce a guilty verdict because the evidence is not strong enough. The case should also be speedily dispensed with. Sometimes our cases drag on for too long. A lawyer friend told me that the Lagos State justice system has been greatly reformed and improved on; what about the federal and other states? I also learnt that the punishment for rape in Lagos State is life imprisonment; I do not know what obtains in other states, but I am shocked that people still commit rape in spite of the stiff punishment. May be we need mass enlightenment to sensitise the “raping public.” Anything to protect our wives, daughters, sisters, mothers and other women should be done. Sex, at the minimum, must be consensual.
I sympathise with the family of Christabel. It must be tough for them. Youths must learn to be open to family. People before them have also been in seemingly hopeless situations where it looked life has come to an end; there is nothing else to live for. Over time, the situation passed away or they adjusted and learn to live with it. Many women bear the scars of rape, some raped by family members and other people they trusted. Tough as it was, they have moved on with their lives. Oprah Winfrey and Jane Fonda are among many successful women today who are rape victims. The experience was traumatic, but it did not keep them down. It could have been so for Christabel. Youths, whatever storm you are going through will pass away. Nothing lasts forever, not even this earth we currently inhabit.

How top Nigerian pastor raped me: Another woman speaks
Another Nigerian woman has come out with her painful rape story: How she was raped as a virgin by a so-called ‘Pastor who claims to be a prophet’.
In a tweetstorm on Saturday, Vicki Royce, a singer and performer, who was born as Victoria Kehinde Bandele 25 years ago, narrated how she was raped by an unnamed man of God at a guest house in Ikotun, Lagos in November 2012.
“I was raped as a virgin and the pain felt like hell.. by a pastor who claims to be a prophet,” she wrote.
Although Vicki did not mention any name in her tweets, netizens are insinuating that the said pastor is ”Pastor TB Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations”.
Read her story:
Ikotun, Lagos. Nov 17 2012. I was almost 19. The date, the time, the spot, the circumstances…I'll NEVER forget.

Ikotun, Lagos. Nov 17 2012. I was almost 19. The date, the time, the spot, the circumstances…I’ll NEVER forget.
I don’t want to talk much tbh(to be honest). But even if I shorten this story I’ll always remember the trauma. The deceit. The helplessness.
I went with this my friend and her boyfriend to meet this ‘man of God’.
Well because my choices were limited (in my opinion) back then. And I really needed a miracle to feel better about myself with an admission into uni. Amongst a few other issues. They took me to meet him and he was all fatherly and dependable-looking. I felt at ease, for real. He asked for my parents’ names and I told him. Man of God, who doubts them for no reason?
In short I was told to come for a special prayer the next week. By myself. But that I should fast that day and break when I’m in the church
The day came,I was fasting. Then I went to the guest house he’d told me to meet him at. Still find it hard to believe I didn’t suspect ANY ulterior motive. My friends trusted him so it didn’t even occur to me to be worried AT ALL
He wasn’t there but the receptionist, a lady, told me to take the keys to “my room”. That was the first inkling that this was awkward but I wasn’t afraid. I hadn’t been told it was a room thing but I told myself to be grateful that he wanted to respect my privacy.
He came in like an hour after I got there. Welcomed me with smiles and asked if I’d remembered not to eat. I reassured him that I hadn’t. Then he asked if I was a virgin. Couldn’t lie to a man of God.I confessed that I’d never had sex.
Gave me ‘anointing oil’ and told me to rub it on my pubic area when he leaves the room. Also gave me a white garment to wear after changing.
He came back like 30 minutes after. Told me with a straight face “emi mo ni e”.
Meaning “I own you”.Huh? Kile mean sir? That was my thought. What do you mean by that?
Next thing this man with the Bible told me to undress and lie down. Not kneel for prayers, lie down. I was shy of course but how would I disobey and still get my miracle, my healing?
He brought out his penis, holding a Bible with the other hand and chanting scriptures in Yoruba. Actually saying prayers for me..I could hear. But what’s penis doing with prayer? I was petrified. Yet didn’t want to miss ‘blessings’
Oh he’d said my grandma put something in me as a kid and it had to be removed for me to make a headway. Didn’t even know which of the grandmas. And he now repeated that this was the way ‘it’ could be removed.
Summary he had his way with me while i cried and screamed. Nobody came. Want to believe nobody heard. He kept whispering ” I own you, don’t be afraid. I own you”
He ejaculated and stood up. I was bloody, sticky. He opened the bedside drawer, gave me #200 for transportation. Told me I should give it a week and see the effect of his ‘prayer’. I was crying but told myself it was for a good reason. Never thought I’d give my virginity this way.
I’m a twin. I’m Kehinde. Taiwo is a guy. He and my parents don’t know this story. Our older sister didn’t, till the year. Told my pastor too. I’m much stronger now I think. I’ll not let some random man hurt me for life. I’m #unbroken.”
In her other tweets, she advocated for a brutal punishment for rapists and agonised over many women who have been victims, and who have chosen to keep quiet. She said she was inspired to recount her story by Busola Dakolo, who used a TV interview to tell how she was violated by Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly(COZA), now based in Abuja.

BREAKING: COZA founder, Biodun Fatoyinbo opens up on rape allegations
Embattled Senior Pastor and Founder of Common Wealth of Zion(COZA) Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo has denied the rape allegation leveled against him by Busola Dakolo, wife of sensational soul singer Timi Dakolo.
Dakolo, mother of three had on Friday made a shocking revelation in a detailed interview with Chude Jideonwo, a lawyer and journalist on YNaija channel of how the Abuja-based cleric raped her as a teenager.
The viral video report has set social media and other online platforms on fire, evoking shock, backlash and criticism from Nigerians, especially the Christian community.
However, in his reaction, the embattled preacher posted a statement on his IG page @biodunfatoyinbo denying the allegation, adding that he had never rape a woman all his life.
In the statement addressed from the ‘Office of the Senior Pastor’, Fatoyinbo described the allegation as false and baseless claim targeted at destroying his reputation and that of his church.
“I have never in my life raped anybody even as an unbeliever and I am absolutely innocent of this.”,the statement reads in part.
In 2013, the clergy popularly called “Gucci Pastor”, because of his flamboyant fashion style, was also entangled in an allegation of infidelity with one Ese Walter, a former member of the church.

LASU suspends three students over cultism, rape
Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU) has approved the indefinite suspension of two final year students, Oloyede Akanbi and Tobiloba Olutade over cultism related activities.
The university said on Wednesday in Lagos that Akanbi and Olutade were 400 level students of the Department of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management and Department of Accounting, respectively.
“The Students’ Affairs Division received information on a fracas that happened on June 20, 2019, on the campus involving some students and non -students.
“Our preliminary investigation revealed that the fracas which started at the Faculty of Management Sciences was between two cult groups.
“ With the prompt reaction of the Security Department, those who were involved ran out of the campus and some of them were eventually apprehended and later handed over to the Police,” Fagbohun said in a statement.
He said said that the outcome of its investigation revealed that the two affected students were involved in the incidents.
In a related development, the university also approved the indefinite suspension of Afeez Ogunbowale of the Department of Chemistry Education over an alleged rape case.
It said Ogunbowale was reported to have carried out the act on April 18, 2018 and was apprehended on September 13, 2018.
According to the university, the case was subsequently transferred to the Festac Police Station, since it was a criminal offense.
The university’s management, however, said that it was aware of the pressure being mounted on the Students’ Union and Faculty Associations leadership by students who would want the platforms to be used to shield offenders and perpetrators of criminality from justice.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the university will not condone harassment and blackmail of students’ leaders by unscrupulous elements even as it encourages the union leaders to always pursue legitimate means in championing the interest of the students,” the statement said.

Alleged rape: Chrisland’s supervisor sent to Kirikiri prisons as court revokes bail
Justice Sybil Nwaka of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday revoked the bail of Chrisland School Supervisor, Adegboyega Adenekan, who is standing trial for allegedly defiling a two-year-old pupil of the school.
Justice Nwaka revoked Adenekan’s bail for one day after expressing concerns that he might become a flight risk and not come to court at the next adjourned date fixed for today (Wednesday).
The judge took the decision after Adenekan was led in defence for over an hour by his counsel, Olatunde Adejuyigbe (SAN).
At the end of his defence, the trial judge declined to let him go back home in line with the bail he has been enjoying but rather sent him to Kirikiri Prisons.
“My intuition is telling me that the defendant may not appear tomorrow for the continuation of his trial. For his own security, I am hereby revoking his bail and order that he be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons until the next adjourned date,” the Judge ruled.
The defendant is facing a lone count charge of child defilement before the court.
During resumed proceedings yesterday, Adenekan told the court that he found the allegations that he defiled a pupil of the school as “false and highly embarrassing.”
The defendant told the court that he had built a teaching career spanning over 23 years and that no parent has ever accused him of child defilement.
When the defendant was asked how he met the victim’s mother, the school supervisor said he knew the woman as one of the parents of pupils at Chrisland School, Ajah, Victoria Garden City.
He said he became aware of the allegation against him on November 14, 2016.
Adenekan said: “It was on a Friday around 8pm , I received a call from an unknown number and she introduced as a parent in the school. She outrightly told me that I had sexually abused her two-year-old daughter.
“I was shocked at the allegation. She now further went on to tell me that we should keep the matter between the two of us and not tell anyone.
“She ended the call and thereafter sent me a message that read: ‘I want you to still be friendly with my child’.
Adenekan claimed to still have on his phone the text message sent to him by the girl’s mother.
He also claimed to have told his wife about the discussion he had on my phone.
The defendant told the court that he was also threatened by the father of the girl.
Adenekan said he reported the matter to the Head Teacher and a meeting was convened, with the girl’s mother in attendance.
“During the meeting, it was concluded that the child should be examined by the school’s hospital. The mother refused. She later called her husband who gave his consent,” he said.
Adenekan said it was the girl’s mother that made arrangement for a polygraph test to be conducted on him by Halogen Securities in Maryland and that he consented because he had nothing to hide.
“I was shocked when the report of the Halogen test came back and it said that I was lying. I strongly believe that the child’s mother and the security company that conducted the test fabricated the results.
“The child was in pre-school 1 when I met her. I only stand at the door of their class and say, ‘hello children.’ The class teacher and the two class assistants are usually there. I have never been alone with the child in question. I have never taken her out of the class to my office,” he said.
When asked if he defiled the child, he said, “I have two daughters – age 14 and 16. I would never allow someone do such to my children. I have been married for 18 years. My wife is even here. I have no special relationship with the child.”
When the school supervisor was asked if he knew the child drew his penis, he said, “I heard she drew a penis but that is between her and her mother. I have never exposed my penis to this child neither have I fingered her or put my penis in her vagina. I am very sure everything is fabricated,” Adenekan said.
The two-year-old girl in her testimony had earlier accused the defendant of defiling her.
She had told the court, “Mr Adenekan put his wee wee (penis) in my bum bum (vagina).
State Prosecutor, B.T Boye had called about six witnesses who testified before the court while the defence had called two teachers of the school who described the defendant as a role model.
Adenekan was forced to open his defence after the court dismissed his application in which he submitted that he had no case to answer.
Justice Nwaka adjourned till today for cross-examination of the defendant.
