Married man abandons girlfriend in Lagos hotel room, rapes receptionist

A Lagos resident known as Fuad, has been arrested for allegedly raping a receptionist in a toilet in the Mutab Hotel and Suites on Abeokuta Street, in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the 19-year-old victim was asleep at the reception of the hotel when one of the lodgers woke her up at midnight and requested a towel.

It was learnt that the victim immediately left the reception, went to the backyard of the hotel to get the towel and was on her way to attend to the guest when she felt the urge to relieve herself.

The victim said she decided to urinate at the general toilet at the backyard when Fuad accosted her inside the toilet.

She said, “He wore only his underpants when he blocked me inside the toilet. I saw a bottle with him and he said if I refused to have sex with him, he would use the bottle to kill me. He raped me inside the toilet and after he was done, he left me there. The incident happened between 12 midnight and 1am on Saturday when everybody was asleep.

“I was also asleep until one of our customers woke me up and said that he needed a towel. I was the one who attended to him (Fuad) when he came with his girlfriend to lodge in our hotel. He paid N5,000 for the room. He must have seen me when I went to pick the towel as he left his girlfriend inside the room, blocked me inside the toilet and raped me there.

“I reported the incident to my manager, Mr Ali, who raised the alarm in the morning. Mr Ali and my colleagues went to Fuad’s room, apprehended him and it was at that point that his girlfriend knew what he did. My manager and colleagues saw the bottle Fuad used to threaten me inside the toilet.”

The owner of the hotel, Mutairu Oke, said the suspect was handed over to the police, adding that the receptionist was taken to hospital for treatment.

He said, “Immediately I was informed in the morning, I instructed my workers to apprehend him. I rushed down to the hotel and took him to the Denton Police Station. Fuad is currently detained there.

“We have taken our receptionist to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja, where it was confirmed that she was raped. They gave her some medications and told her to return to the hospital on Monday for further tests.”

The Chief Security Officer, Lagos Mainland Local Government Area, Ishola Agbodemu, while condemning the incident, said Fuad was fond of causing trouble in the area.

He added, “Despite our efforts to reduce crime in the area, it is surprising that someone who has a wife at home, raped a receptionist in the same hotel he lodged with his girlfriend.

“People know the boy (Fuad) in the neighbourhood; his friends have been trying to intimidate the girl from speaking out.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the incident.

He said, “The suspect has been arrested. The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has directed the gender unit of the command to take over the case for further investigation.”

Rape: Chelsea goalkeeper fumes at being identified as Benjamin Mendy

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has criticised media outlets for mistakenly using his image in stories about Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy.

City and France full-back Benjamin Mendy has been charged with six counts of rape and one of sexual assault, and remains in custody.

Photos of Edouard Mendy and his cousin, Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy, have been used to illustrate articles.

Edouard Mendy said their use was “highly symbolic”.

“Sad to see that in 2021, in France as well as in England, for some, black people have neither names nor distinct faces,” the Senegal international wrote on Instagram.

“These ‘mistakes’ of photos appear anecdotal, but actually they are quite the opposite, they are highly symbolic.

“It’s not that complicated to differentiate two faces, especially when the football jersey is of valuable help!”

In August, Benjamin Mendy was charged with four counts of rape and one of sexual assault.

Those charges related to alleged attacks on three women over the age of 16 at his home between October 2020 and August 2021.

On Wednesday, the 27-year-old appeared in court to face two further charges of rape, related to alleged attacks in Macclesfield in July and August.

He was suspended by City after being charged by police, pending an investigation.

Makanjuola made the revelation while being led in evidence by the state prosecutor, Mr Yusuf Sule, during the trial of the actor over allegations of defilement.

Makanjuola, a trained forensic medical examiner, is Head of Clinical Services at Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF). She was testifying as to the fourth prosecution witness.

She said: “We took her to the consulting room and she gave a history of the events from seven years ago. She did not mention these incidents to her mother but it began to affect her mood and academic performance.

“She disclosed what happened to her mother’s friend on April 16 who in turn informed her mother. We decided to do an examination.

“There was normal external genitalia, we observed a healed laceration on the labia minora at the 3’0Clock position; we also observed a notch at the 6′ 0 clock position.

“Based on these findings, my lord, the client was sent to the laboratory for more tests, they were HIV 1 and 2, Hepatitis A, B, Syphilis and pregnancy and they all came out negative.

“She was sent for psychological assessment and a report was made, authenticated and sent to the SCID.”

Following the revelations, the prosecution tendered the referral letter and medical report as evidence to the court. They were admitted as evidence and marked as Exhibit J and J1.

While under cross-examination by defence counsel, Mr Dada Awosika (SAN), Makanjuola revealed that WARIF is a sexual assault referral centre.

She said that she conducted the medical examination based on the client’s history.

“The healed lacerations connotes that the lacerations found in the genitalia were not something that was recent my lord,”

A 14-year-old minor (name withheld) on Wednesday in a video played during proceedings at an Ikeja Special Offences Court said that Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James alias Baba Ijesha, told her he was her boyfriend.

The minor in the interview said when Baba Ijesha came into the home, he initially acted like he was having a phone conversation and that the defendant began checking the apartment to know whether anyone was home before he approached her.

“He said you’re a smart young girl, my baby. Do you have a boyfriend? I said no and he said since you do not have a boyfriend now that you’re much more mature, you’re now mine, I am your boyfriend.

“He said I used to teach you some things when you were small. I asked him what things so that I can record him with my phone.

“My phone was under the throw pillow because I thought he wanted to confess to what he did seven-years ago but I was unable to record him.

“He said don’t you remember, me and you used to play together, I used to teach you some things when you were small. Me and you had a contract and I asked him what contract?

“He asked me to sit on his legs and I said no and he said you that when you were small you were not afraid. Now you’re afraid,” the minor said in the interview.

The child told Ajayi-Kayode that Baba Ijesha during the April 19 incident, began touching her sexually and he had asked her to bring him some water.

“When I went to the kitchen he also followed me and it was at this point that my mother and the other men (CCTV company staff) came in,” she said.

Earlier, the minor narrated to Ajayi-Kayode what transpired when the Nollywood actor allegedly defiled her seven-years ago.

She said that the first incident occured when Baba Ijesha came to visit her sick foster mother when she was a seven-year old. She said she was sitting on the carpet watching cartoons while he sat on the couch.

She said the defendant asked her to remove her underwear and that he brought out his private part and asked her wriggle her waist while sitting on his laps.

“My concentration was on the cartoon I was watching, I couldn’t remember how long I was on his laps before I felt some wetness.

“He cleaned himself with a handkerchief and he asked me to clean myself up and I went to the bathroom to clean myself up with a towel,” she said.

The minor said that the defendant told her not to tell anyone about what transpired between them.

The child told Ajayi-Kayode that next day, Baba Ijesha came to her home with some fruits for her foster mother and she was asked to pick up the fruits from his car.

“The car was parked at a T-junction and there was a wall and a gutter there and no one was on the other side.

“The fruits were on the back seat and he opened the door in front and asked me to take the fruits.

“When I stretched to pick the fruits from the back seat, he put the car keys into my private part and at the same time he was trying to kiss me.

“After this incident, I did not see him again until seven-years later,” she said.

During the interview, the child expert gave the minor a male and a female doll to depict how the defendant allegedly molested her seven-years ago.

The child gave a demonstration of how the molestation happened to the observation of Ajayi-Kayode.

NAN reports that the embattled actor faces a six-count charge bordering on indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by penetration.

The offences contravene Sections 135, 259, 262, 263 and 262 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Nkechi Blessing recounts near rape experience

Popular actress, Nkechi Blessing has narrated how she was almost raped by a boyfriend of her sister when she was about 17 years.

The actress made this known during an interview with Chude Jideonwo.

The movie star said her sister once had her set up with a man in what she alleged was a plot to test her virginity.

“I was 16 or 17 and I had this sister I used to tell I was a virgin and she would say I was lying. I used to dance and my mum ran a beer palour. This sister invited me to meet her boyfriend,” Blessing said.

“It was as if she wanted to set me up to confirm if I was still a virgin or not. As a young girl who was knowledgeable about such matters, I sat down. Drinks were served. This sister told me she would be back and went out.

“The boyfriend came close, sat beside me. My mind went to the virginity conversation I had with the sister. I was scared to death. I stood up and he held me, saying I wouldn’t leave. I protested, asked if he wanted to rape me.

“He knew I was going to scream so he let me be. I guessed that (rape) was going to happen. I thought to myself that rapists should be given the death penalty. There’s no need for court. You hear a person raped, just kill them there.

“I feared what would have happened to me if he eventually did it. I’ve seen victims; read loads of messages from people, even adults who were raped. You can imagine the anger and trauma that they have gone through.

“Consider the 14-year-old girl involved in the Baba Ijesha case. No sane person hears that and wouldn’t speak up.”
