Man Utd: Amorim, Rashford no longer on speaking terms

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim and Marcus Rashford aren’t on speaking terms, it has been claimed.

Amorim took fresh aim at Rashford after victory against Fulham on Sunday, claiming his performance in training didn’t warrant inclusion in United’s matchday squad.

The Guardian says the pair are now not on speaking terms. Thus, the parties no longer have one-on-one conversations.

Shortly before Christmas, Rashford stated that he was ready to leave United in search of a new challenge.

Since then he has been in the matchday squad just once, without getting on the pitch.

Man Utd: Ten Hag defends Rashford’s poor form

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has come to the defence of Marcus Rashford.

The England and United forward has been in the firing line for his poor displays over the past 12 months.

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer criticized Rashford on BBC’s Match of the Day, stating: Shearer said: “He’s had two games this season Marcus Rashford and he’s not had one shot at goal.

“Fifty-seven goals they (Man Utd) scored last season. That was the worst in the top half. Ruud van Nistelrooy has been brought into there. He’s going to have to work his magic somehow.”

In response, Ten Hag told reporters: “Everyone gets criticism from you guys, it doesn’t matter what we are doing, if we are winning or if we are losing.

“If I take a player off, the conclusion is I was not happy with him. But I was very happy with Rashy in pre-season, against Fulham (in the opening game) and also against Brighton.

“I didn’t take him off because his performances or level were not right – no, we had to rotate because we have good players on the bench who bring new energy.

“There will be rotation. Then there is the conclusion the player is not performing. It can be sometimes but definitely it wasn’t in this case. In this case, it was stupid analysis from the pundit.”

Ten Hag rejects fresh Rashford criticism

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insists Marcus Rashford is motivated to help the team.

Rashford has come in for fresh criticism after comments by former United players on a podcast.

Ex-United players Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Rio Ferdinand questioned Rashford’s form and mentality this season, leading to a social media post from his brother and agent.

“I don’t know what Gary Neville was saying,” said the United manager after a 4-3 loss to Chelsea.

“But lately his (Rashford’s) form is progressing.

“He has a big motivation because he wants to be successful with us. He wants to win trophies and score goals. But he wants to win and to contribute, and we have a chance with the FA Cup.

“He wants to fight for a Champions League spot and the Euros are coming. So his motivation should be high. Before Brentford he scored three goals in three games.”

REVEALED: Rashford and Pogba rejected Man Utd captaincy

Marcus Rashford refused to take the Manchester United captaincy under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, it has been revealed.

Solskjaer admitted last week that two players had rejected the captaincy when offered, though refused to name them.

He told the Athletic: “Some weren’t as good as their own perception of themselves.

“I won’t name names but I was very disappointed when a couple turned down the chance to be captain.

“I was also disappointed when others said they wouldn’t play or train because they wanted to force their way out.”

And now a source tells The Sun: “Paul Pogba was offered it but said he wanted to leave the club so turned it down.

“Rashford was also asked to take the captaincy but he said he didn’t think he was ready for it.”

‘I have the honour of wearing Man Utd shirt’ – Rashford pens new deal

Manchester United star, Marcus Rashford has signed a new contract to remain at Old Trafford till 2028.

Rashford said: “I joined Manchester United as a seven-year-old boy with a dream. That same passion, pride, and determination to succeed still drives me every time I have the honour of wearing the shirt.

“I’ve already had some amazing experiences at this incredible club, but there is still a lot more to achieve and I remain relentlessly determined to win more trophies in the years ahead.

“As a United fan all my life, I know the responsibility that comes with representing this badge and feel the highs and lows as much as anyone. I can assure you that I will give everything to help the team reach the level we are capable of, and I can feel the same determination around the dressing room. I couldn’t be more excited for the future under this manager.”

John Murtough, Manchester United Football Director, said: “Ever since he joined our Academy 18 years ago, Marcus has epitomised what it takes to succeed as a Manchester United player.

“He is a brilliant talent but also humble, dedicated and driven. As he enters his prime years, we know there is still so much more to come from him, and we can see the hunger that Marcus feels to achieve the highest levels of success here at Manchester United.

“Working with Erik ten Hag and his coaches is the perfect environment for Marcus to continue to develop into one of the best attacking players in the world.”

  • We have a lot of faith in Rashford – Fernandez

We have a lot of faith in Rashford – Fernandez

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has hailed in-form attacking teammate Marcus Rashford.

After scoring in victory over Manchester City, Rashford now has 16 goals and provided six assists in 26 competitive games this season.

Fernandes said, “He has always been unstoppable, but he didn’t get his goals, his rewards. He’s always been like this. The thing is, the ball is going in now, he’s getting his goals, he’s getting his rewards for the effort he’s put in for the team. Everyone is really happy for him, he deserves it.

“He is one of the best players in the world, without a doubt. Not just now, he was before too.

‘He will be even better in the future. We have a lot of faith in Rashy and he just has to keep his head down and work as he has been doing.”

  • Man Utd watch-winner Rashford dropped for oversleeping

Man Utd watch-winner Rashford dropped for oversleeping

Marcus Rashford has said he was dropped from Manchester United’s starting XI against Wolves because he missed a team meeting after oversleeping.

Manager Erik ten Hag praised the 25-year-old after he came on to score the winner in the second half at Molineux.

But the Dutchman said breaches of internal discipline at Old Trafford have to be punished if his team are to be successful this season.

“Everyone has to match the standards and rules,” said Ten Hag.

“[If they don’t] there has to be consequences.

“That is what I expect on the pitch, otherwise you can’t be successful. When you miss rules outside the pitch, it can go onto the pitch. He gave the right answer.”

Rashford revealed the nature of his disciplinary breach in a post-match TV interview.

He said he was “disappointed” to be dropped, but added: “I understand the decision and obviously I am happy we managed to win the game. I think we can draw a line under it and move on.”

It is not the first disciplinary issue Ten Hag has had to confront this season.

He blocked Alejandro Garnacho, who replaced Rashford in the starting line-up at Wolves, from playing during United’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia when he was late for team meetings.

Most famously, he axed Cristiano Ronaldo when he refused to come on as a substitute against Tottenham in October, triggering the chain of events that ended on Friday when the Portuguese forward signed a lucrative contract with Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr.

“Don’t talk about the past. Let’s talk about the future,” Ten Hag said on Saturday when asked about Ronaldo’s move.

Rashford has now scored 11 goals for United in all competitions this season. He has scored in three successive games for the first time since November 2019.

“I think I am in a good place,” the England star told BT Sport.

“It’s difficult to come back from the World Cup. Emotion-wise everyone is at different levels but it has been important for us to stick together and help each other through a difficult moment for the lads that didn’t win the World Cup.”

Rashford’s efforts have helped United record five wins in a row for the first time since April 2021 and edge into the top four.

“We make a good step today,” said Ten Hag. “It is the first time we are in top four, but it means nothing.

“We have to win every game if we want to try and win something. That is our aim. It depends on hard work from everyone.”

Marcus Rashford fires Man Utd to victory

Marcus Rashford scored one and created another as Manchester United overcame illness issues to beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 and move to within a point of the top four.

Rashford converted a superb opener after 19 minutes when he was picked out by Christian Eriksen in a pre-planned corner routine, allowing the striker to exploit Forest’s failure to track his run by sweeping a first-time shot past Wayne Hennessey.

The England forward turned provider three minutes later, cutting in from the left wing and rolling a pass to Antony Martial, whose low finish from the edge of the area found the net after Hennessey failed to hold.

Forest’s keeper denied Antony, Martial and Rashford before substitute Fred profited from an excellent through ball from fellow Brazilian Casemiro to find the bottom corner three minutes from time.

Forest never recovered from that first-half double blow, although they did have a goal ruled out by VAR just before the break.

Steve Cooper’s men have not scored a league goal away from the City Ground since 20 August and remain second bottom.

For United, it completed a fourth successive victory in all competitions and underlined the theory that the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo will not have a negative effect on the remainder of their season.

  • Ten Hag believes in under-fire Harry Maguire

Ten Hag believes in under-fire Harry Maguire

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have returned to training ahead of the Manchester derby but under-fire Harry Maguire will be absent.

But Maguire is a player Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is convinced will turn things around.

The improving Red Devils will this weekend play their first English Premier League (EPL) match since beating Arsenal 3-1 on Sept. 4.

This was after the Crystal Palace and Leeds United fixtures were called off following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

High-flying neighbours Manchester City are sure to provide a stern test for Manchester United, who go looking for a fifth successive Premier League victory without skipper Maguire in the squad.

The centre-back picked up a knock during the international break with England —- a period that forwards Rashford and Martial spent working their way back to fitness.

“Harry Maguire is injured,” Ten Hag said. “I think for the rest we have some doubts with Anthony Martial.

“But he was training all week with the group. So, I’m really happy with that situation. He’s performing really well in training, he makes a good impression.

“Rashford, he returns into training. So, also, we are happy with that. For the rest, I think only the long-term injuries like Axel Tuanzebe and Brandon Williams are not available.”

Maguire played the entirety of England’s loss to Italy last Friday.

That was before completing another 90 minutes against Germany, when he gave away a penalty kick and lost possession before the visitors’ second at Wembley.

That display led to renewed talk about Gareth Southgate’s loyalty to the 29-year-old, who has been out of form and favour at Manchester United this season.

But Ten Hag, like the England manager, retains faith in Maguire and is certain he will improve.

“First of all, of course I have to coach him. I have to back him,” the Manchester United manager said. “But I back him because I believe in him.

“In the period I worked with him in pre-season was good, I think I will say really good —- training and games.

“Then he fell out (of the starting line-up). But it’s also to do with the good performance of the centre-backs who are playing now.

“But I can see the qualities. Even after he wasn’t in the team, he trained really well but more important the quality was really there.

“You see his career, almost 50 caps for England. With Leicester City and Manchester United, he’s performing really well. So, what you see is he has a high potential.

“Then it’s about him. The players in the dressing room, the coaches, the manager, we all believe in him. Now it is about him.

“That is what I told him. I’m sure he can do it. He will turn around this. I am really convinced of that.”

Asked about the potential mental health impact on widely-criticised players like Maguire, Ten Hag said: “But it’s an aspect of top football, it’s an aspect of our work.

“We set conditions for that as manager. We also have experts around to help, to coach the players, the team in the right direction.

“I think he’s doing quite well, but every player has room for improvement and if he believes in his skills he will quickly be back on the level and even more than he did.

“Once again, I am convinced of that because I see his capabilities and it’s really high.”

Ten Hag heads into his first Manchester derby fresh from being named Premier League Manager of the month for September, with Rashford winning the players’ award.

The Dutchman says that shows they are heading in the “right direction”.

But he also knows there is plenty of room for improvement as he prepares to try and stop Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.

Furthermore, Ten Hag will pit his wits against a man he knows well as Pep Guardiola was manager of Bayern Munich when the Manchester United manager coached the second team.

“We don’t play against Haaland,” he said. “We play against Manchester City.

“They have a team, more than 11 players. But also we are convinced of our capabilities and if we act as a team, in and out of possession, then you can beat such opponents.

“That is the belief we have to take with us when we line up, when we start the game and we do it over more than 90 minutes on Sunday.”

  • Rashford apologises for swearing after scoring against Liverpool

Rashford apologises for swearing after scoring against Liverpool

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has apologised for swearing after scoring in victory over Liverpool on Monday night.

The 24-year-old looked to be at his best once again against Jurgen Klopp’s side, netting what would turn out to be the winner for United in the 53rd minute.

According to Tribalfootball, a clip showing off an alternative angle of Rashford’s finish and celebration was then released by the club on Wednesday, which showed the pumped-up England star let loose after finishing smartly past Alisson.

While his bad language can’t be heard in the clip posted by the Red Devils, a sheepish Rashford took to Twitter shortly after to tell fans to ‘excuse’ his language having known he dropped expletives during the jubilant celebrations before laughing it off.

Rashford tweeted, “Please excuse my language it was just in the heat of the moment” following by a laughing emoji.
