  • Naby Keita will not join Liverpool in January, say RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig have told BBC Sport they have no intention of allowing Liverpool to complete the signing of midfielder Naby Keita before the summer.

Last August, the Reds agreed to pay £51m for the 22-year-old Guinea international, who will join in July.

Reports this week claimed Leipzig would accept an extra payment of about £15m if Liverpool wanted Keita in January.

However, the German club said: “There is nothing new about this situation and so that speculation is not true.”

They added: “Nothing has changed and our position hasn’t changed from before regarding this transfer.”

Liverpool formed an amicable relationship with RB Leipzig during talks over Keita last summer and will not make any move to close an early deal unless they are given encouragement by the Bundesliga, which has not yet been forthcoming.

The Anfield club have, however, always been happy to complete the deal as quickly as possible and the position could change if RB Leipzig alter their stance this month and fresh terms can be agreed.

RB Leipzig currently lie fifth in the Bundesliga, which resumes this weekend after the winter break, and want to keep Keita for a renewed push to qualify for the Champions League, as well as for their Europa League campaign, where they face Napoli in the last 32.

  • West Ham’s Reece Oxford set for RB Leipzig move

West Ham defender Reece Oxford is set to complete a surprise move to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig next month.Oxford, 19, has been on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach and has made three league appearances this season.

However, RB Leipzig are optimistic of a deal being agreed for an initial 9m Euros (£8m), with the fee potentially rising to 19m (£16.88m) with add ons.

West Ham would have to recall the England Under-20 international from Monchengladbach before doing the deal.

Leipzig tried to buy Oxford in 2016 but could not agree a fee with the Hammers.

Oxford became West Ham’s youngest ever player when he made his debut as a 16-year-old in a Europa League qualifying tie against Andorran side Lusitanos in July 2015.

New Hammers boss David Moyes had agreed to let Oxford leave on a permanent basis, although it was anticipated he would remain at Monchengladbach.

Leipzig were second in the table heading into December but have failed to win any of their last four matches and have slipped to fifth.

They have been drawn against Napoli in the last 32 of the Europa Leagu
