SAD! Gunmen kill RCCG Pastor on pulpit

A Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Bolanle Ibrahim has been murdered by suspected assailants in his church at the Mile 12 area of Lagos State. The deceased, who was an assistant pastor at the King of Kings parish of the Church, at Maidan village, was said to be praying for mothers and their children during their child dedication when the suspected assailants invaded the church.

It was gathered that the gunmen went into the church during the service, tried to drag Ibrahim out, but another senior pastor in the church approached them and demanded what they wanted from him. The deceased aunt, Mrs. Justina Alebiosu said when the senior pastor was asking the assailants who they were; they hit him with the butt of their gun in his mouth.

Alebiosu said what happened to her brother was a clear case of hired assassination, “even before they killed him, they showed him his picture to identify if he was actually the right person they came for.” She said: “his death was an unfortunate one, we have lost a gentleman, it was true we were born as Muslims, but we converted to Christianity. My thinking is that my brother had busi-ness transaction with someone.

“I was told when the assailants wanted to drag him out of the pulpit where he was praying for women who brought their children for dedication, he begged them to kill him there and that was where he was eventually killed by the gunmen.” She added that, “the assailants also threatened to shoot any of the members of the church who dare come close to them.

“We still have an aged mother, and his wife just gave birth, his children are still young. I am appealing to the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu to release his remains for us to bury, presently we are all down morally, because of his sudden death.” The distraught wife of the deceased, Mrs. Kudirat Ibrahim said on the fateful day her husband was killed, he was fasting. She said for the period they courted she never suspected her husband to be a cultist, wondering where people heard that he was a cult member, “what they are saying about him are blatant lies, my late husband was a man of God and he served him to his death.

“I wasn’t at home on the fateful day of the incident, I went to take care of my sick mother at the hospital, I had no premonition about his death, after the deed was done, nobody called to inform me. “I never knew my husband had been killed, I was still busy calling him to bring something for me from home, not knowing that he had already been killed, whenever I called him the person who is picking his call kept telling me my husband is preaching, it was later around 7pm that my elder brother came to break the news to me about the gruesome murder of my beloved husband.”

The grieving aged mother of the deceased, Mrs. Agnes Ogunowo who spoke with New Telegraph said the gunmen have taken away her son and her friend from her. Ogunowo said they bid each bye when they were going to church on the fateful Sunday.

“I am a member of Catholic, but he attends Redeemed Christian Church of God and he was the assistant pastor of the Church, I still don’t understand why they killed my son. He was an easy going person. “My son has a new baby we are yet to take to church for dedication, now my son is no more. I want to appeal to the police to get involved in my son’s death, arrest and prosecute them.

I want God to expose those behind it, I cannot bear his death.”

Nigerian Pastor who stole €70,000 from church funds turns self in to police in Dublin, Ireland

A 56-year-old pastor, Ebenezer Oduntan accused of pilfering over €70,000 from church funds over an eight year period has turned himself in to the police.

According to insiders, Pastor Oduntan voluntarily went to report himself to the Charity Commission which oversees churches; and to the Irish Police possibly compelled by the Holy Spirit and his conscience.

However, a report by RTE, the clergy living in Co Kildare, a county in Ireland appeared at Naas District Court on Thursday after voluntarily turning self in to the Charity Commission and the Police.

Oduntan is facing 39 allegations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Theft and Fraud Act 2001 of Ireland dating between 2012 and 2020.

According to the report, at the time of the allegations, Oduntan was pastor of a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG (City of David) based at Naas Enterprise Park in Naas, Ireland.

Det Sgt Glen Mackessy, on secondment to the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement, gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution of Oduntan at Newbridge Garda (Police) Station on Thursday.

The defendant made no comment when the charges were put to him.

The court was told that Oduntan allegedly used the €70,000 for his personal use without consultation or approval.

Judge Desmond Zaidan heard that the church held a number of services a week and had a large membership at one point of up to 100 families.

Oduntan was in control of the church’s finances which came from donations from church members, the court was told.

Meanwhile, the issue took a new twist when defence solicitor David Powderly said his client was disputing the allegations and would be fully protesting his innocence.

Prosecuting garda (Police) Sgt Brian Jacob applied for bail which was granted with strict conditions by Judge Zaidan.

The judge ordered that Oduntan must reside at his home address (45 The Close, Curragh Grange, Newbridge), surrender his passport and not apply for any other travel documents.

The case was later adjourned to Naas District Court on 18 November next.

Why RCCG, Deeper Life won’t stop use of Twitter despite FG’s ban – Pastors Adeboye, Kumuyi speak

Top Nigerian clerics, Pastors Enoch Adeboye (General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG) and William Kumuyi (General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church) have given reasons why their churches will continue using popular micro blogging and social networking service, Twitter despite a subsisting ban by the Federal Government.

Adeboye and Kumuyi said tweets by their churches are in accordance with the United Nations declaration on human rights, irrespective of the suspension of Twitter operations by the federal government.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that the federal government though the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed had announced the “indefinite” suspension in a statement last week by his spokesman Segun Adeyemi.

Adeboye, while reacting to allegations of flouting FG’s order in a terse statement, said: “The Redeemed Christian Church of God is domiciled in more than 170 Nations & Territories. The tweets here are in accordance to Article 19 of the UN universal declaration of Human Rights.”

In a similar reaction, Kumuyi via his official twitter handle @pastorwf_Kumuyi said: “In view of the Twitter ban in Nigeria, please note that the content shared on this handle is targeted at a global audience in more than 5 continents and over 100 nations and we share the content from any of this locations”.

COVID-19: You are a man of faith – Pastor Adeboye tells Gov Yahaya Bello

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye has described Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State as a man of faith over his handling of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the State.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Onogwu Muhammed, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bello made this known in a statement on Saturday.

He quoted Pastor Adeboye to have said during a visit that Governor Bello’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic was an inspiring indication of stoic faith and a rare demonstration of faith from a political leader.

According to the statement, the RCCG G.O. reportedly assured Governor Bello that they would continue to offer prayers for the Governor, the leadership of the state and the people of the state at large.

Applauding Bello for his balanced approach to governance, especially as it relates to religious plurality, according to the statement, Adeboye praised the Governor for tolerance and inclusiveness to the extent that the first-ever Chapel in the Kogi State Government house was built by the Governor.

“We have heard and seen your show of faith in God, particularly in dealing with the Coronavirus. It takes the man of faith to have acted the way you did and we are very very pleased with you.

“We have also heard the news of how you’ve been relating to people of every faith to the extent that you built the first chapel in the government house, Lokoja, we are delighted.

“I want to assure you that we will keep on praying for you, we will keep on praying for the people of your State and I believe that the Almighty God will answer our prayers for you. Thank you for granting us the audience,” the statement quoted Adeboye to have said.

In his response, Governor Bello said the visit of the clergy was a gift and that he was delighted to be hosting a father figure who served as a role model to many across the country, himself inclusive.

Governor Bello asserted that It was evil of any leader to continually do wrong without recourse to natural justice, adding that in Kogi State under his leadership, considering the circumstances surrounding how he became governor and his election for a second term, the resolve is to do good by providing credible and impacting governance.

He further stated that his administration’s strive to ensure ethnic, religious balance, fighting criminality and other modest achievements were only natural and mandatory obligations expected of leaders bequeathed with the people’s mandate.

The Governor tasked the revered and venerable clergy to continue to pray for the country, the state, both leadership and followership stating that all faith at this very period should harmonise to seek divine intervention for the nation instead of beating the drum of divisions and war.

“Don’t cry for my son” – Watch Pastor Adeboye’s message at son’s funeral

Pastor Dare Adeboye, late son of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) was buried on Tuesday.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Pastor Adeboye, during the farewell service for Dare, urged members of the church not to cry for the deceased.

“Cry if you wish but don’t cry for pastor Dee because he is resting in glory. Cry because you are the one still fighting the battle. Anyone who has caught a glimpse of heaven will not be crying for pastor Dee because there is no comparison between heaven and earth. But then fight courageously because, on the resurrection morning, we shall meet again.

“I want you to know that God who knows the end from the beginning knew long before the foundations of the world that what has happened was going to happen. And because his word is forever settled, he said all things work together for good to them that love God. We may not understand now, but what has happened is going to work out for our good.

“In one of his sermons, Dare himself said God does not need a visa to pay you a visit or to do whatever he wants to do in your life.

“And I have told you before, death is not a function of age. Young people die, old people die, children die. And it is not about how long you live it is how well. Even Jesus Christ himself died at the age of 33. John the Baptist never lived to be 34 and yet he was the greatest.

“We have lost a champion. You would agree with me on that. Let us consider him a seed that we have sown and let’s get ready for a special harvest. I want us to join our forces together and produce many champions like Damilare that would go round the whole world and shake the world for the Lord Jesus. That is how we can honour his memory,” Pastor Adeboye said.

TNG reports the farewell service was held at the Youth Centre, Redemption Camp, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Pastor Adeboye’s wife, Folu weeps for Nigeria as she leads prayers at Holy Ghost service

Pastor Folu Adeboye, wife of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) on Friday wept as she led prayers for Nigeria.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the wife of the RCCG General Overseer, who recently lost her son, Dare, wept while leading a prayer session at the May 2021 edition of the church’s Holy Ghost service.

While leading the prayer session during the service, she said Nigeria needed prayers, and that the country was going through a siege, and that guns won’t help.

With tears in her eyes, she urged Nigerians to pray to God to liberate the country, and for every other nation to get out of every form of siege that they are going through.

“Brethren, today’s prayer is going to be different because there is always a purpose for a season because the Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 that there is purpose for season. The season that we are in Nigeria now calls for a lot of prayers.

“Our nation, Nigeria, is going through a siege and it is so much, so hard and we want God to liberate us even as we connect to other nations and believe that our prayers for Nigeria, God Himself will allow it to reach other nations and other nations will get out of every form of siege that they are going through.

“These prayers, if you need to weep, you better weep because weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. This is the time we need to cry. It is becoming overwhelming, it is too much, people are dying every day from hunger, people are dying every day from all kinds of terrorism, and people are dying from kidnapping,” she said, while calling on God to have mercy on Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Pastor Adeboye, fondly referred to Daddy GO, during the Holy Ghost service, said a third wave of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) will not happen in Nigeria.

Adeboye said it was for the prayers of Christians that the COVID-19 did not take a detrimental dimension, and that Christians have to pray also for the third wave of COVID-19 not to happen in Nigeria.

He explained that the ability to pray is a gift that summons the Almighty to come and help, and that it takes the special grace of God to remember to pray.

“Don’t listen to any person who says it is by their own wisdom that Coronavirus is now subdued in Nigeria. It is because you prayed. You asked God for mercy, and God heard, and in the mighty name of Jesus, there will be no third wave.

“But, I want to encourage you that you need to pray again. We have problems of many kinds in Nigeria so very soon, you might be summoned to pray again. We need to pray against all the problems we are facing, and God will answer when we pray,” Pastor Adeboye said.

Adeboye shocks world, steps out to preach despite son’s death [ See video]

Amidst torrent of condolences coming from all over the world over the death of his son, Dare, General Overseer of the Redeemed Church of God, RCCG , Pastor Enoch Adeboye on Thursday, to the surprise of all, put aside his grief, to preach at the church’s monthly programme, Holy Communion Service.

Recall TheNewsGuru (TNG) had exclusively broke the news of Dare’s death yesterday.

Speaking at the May edition of the programme tagged ‘Overflowing Blessings’, which was televised by the church’s television ministry, DOVE Media and monitored by TNG , Adeboye who virtually attended the event, premised his sermon on John 6: 5-13 to show the relevance of bread and wine as symbols of communion.

His words: “Holy Communion is a sacred meal, stressed that it carries the same power as the very first meal where Jesus Christ was present. Is Jesus present here today? you better believe it, where two or three are gathered, I will be there… as we bow our head in prayer, those of you who are yet to give your life to Christ, ask God to save your souls so that you can partake of the table of the Lord. If you want to give your life to Christ, run to the alter and ask him for his mercy, to wash you and make you partaker of his blood and body.”

After the sermon, one of the leaders of the church who took over activities of the communion service told the congregation in the auditorium at the Redemption Camp: “Tonight, daddy has prayed for us. He has also prayed on all the elements that we are going to use – the bread and the wine. I am here not standing in for him because I am too small to stand in for him; I am only here to deliver the message as a messenger.

“He could have been here physically as he used to but due to circumstances beyond control, he was not able to be here but to the Glory of God, he has said to us, Jesus is here and he is also there praying for us,” he said of the decision by Adeboye to preach from the DOVE Television studio.
