Pastor Adeboye reveals an unforgettable meal he ate

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye has revealed an unforgettable meal that he ate in his village home of Ilesha in Osun State.

Speaking on Sunday on the topic: This Unforgettable Meal, being the 70th series on the theme: Going Higher, with text taken from 1st Kings chapter 19 from verse 19 to verse 21, Pastor Adeboye narrated how he was eating pounded yam when he was informed of the death of Pastor Josiah Oluwafemi Akindayomi.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Pastor Akindayomi is the Founder and General Superintendent of the RCCG, founded in 1952 through a vision God showed to the late founder of the mission.

Adeboye, fondly referred to as Daddy GO, stressed that immediately after he was informed of the death of Pa Akindayomi during the meal, he knew all his plans of becoming the youngest Vice Chancellor (VC) in Africa were over.

“How can I ever forget the meal I was eating as I sat in my little house in Ilesha in those days? I have come to visit my mum and I was eating pounded yam and then I heard a car stop in front of the house.

“And I said who could that be because nobody was supposed to know I was there. And then the door opened and Pastor Mulero came in. And I said what’s wrong? He said finish your food. And I said it’s Papa, is it not? He said yes, papa passed away last night.

“And I knew immediately that all my plans of becoming the youngest Vice Chancellor in Africa were over. That was the beginning of becoming a full-time pastor. I can’t forget that food. I didn’t finish it. The morsel that was in my hand came back into the plate,” Pastor Adeboye recounted.

TNG reports that the RCCG GO, who used to be a lecturer of Mathematics at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) before he resigned to become a full-time pastor, has again and again spoken about his dream earlier in life to become the youngest university VC in not just Nigeria, but the whole of Africa. According to him, becoming the youngest university boss was his goal in life, until 1973 when everything changed totally.

Recall that in the early 1970s, Adeboye was already married to Pastor Mrs Foluke Adeboye (nee Adeyokunnu). He and his wife faced the challenge of having children. They had two children through caesarean section and the doctors had advised them against having more. But the couple desperately wanted more children and they embarked on a spiritual journey to seek a solution. This brought them to the RCCG in the year 1973 which was then headed by Pastor Akindayomi.

In one of his sermons, speaking on the power needed to fulfil one’s destiny in life, Pastor Adeboye said: “I thought I would be the youngest Vice Chancellor in Africa. That was my goal. But somewhere along the line, I gave my life to Jesus Christ in 1973. And before the end of that year, I got baptized in the Holy Spirit”.

Upon being called into the ministry, his initial duty at the church at that time was to translate Pastor Akindayomi’s sermons from his native Yoruba language into the English language as an interpreter. As time went by, Adeboye began organizing Bible Study meetings, Crusades, Revivals, Outreaches and the evangelistic programs known as the Holy Ghost Congress, which proved to be very successful.

Pastor Akindayomi was so impressed by the young Adeboye that he decided that he was the man that would succeed him. In 1981, Pastor Akindayomi died and Adeboye took over the mantle of leadership as the church’s General Overseer based on an instruction left by Akindayomi prior to his death.

“After Pa Akindayomi’s death at age 71, I took over as the General Overseer of RCCG in the year 1981, not by merit but by divine appointment which had already been revealed to Pa Akindayomi before his death. Although there were several controversies after I assumed office, my appointment was formalized by the reading of Pa Akindayomi’s sealed pronouncement after his burial,” Pastor Adeboye had said.

As the new leader of the RCCG, Adeboye worked hard to expand the church’s outreach and in recent times, the church has branches in as many as 179 countries in the world. Pastor Adeboye is today considered to be one of the most influential pastors in Nigeria and one of the richest pastors in the world.

TNG reports that Pastor Adeboye studied at Ilesha Grammar School, Ilesha, Osun State, Western Nigeria in 1956. It was at this time that he discovered his passion for science and mathematics in particular. After his primary and secondary education, he pursued tertiary education and obtained a Bachelor’s (BSc.) degree in Mathematics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria in 1967.

He also got a Masters (MSc.) Degree in Hydrodynamics and a Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Applied Mathematics, both from the University of Lagos, in 1969 and 1975 respectively.

How Adeboye wife’s call almost made me collapse- Bakare

Founder of Citadel Global Community Church (formerly known as Latter Rain Assembly), Pastor Tunde Bakare, has explained how a call from Mrs Foluke Adeboye, wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, almost made him collapse.

Bakare pointed out that he was in London when he had the call with Mrs Adeboye who wanted to inquire about his health after watching a sermon of his on television.

He shared the story while addressing his followers at a Gathering of Sons and Daughters in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, on Sunday.

The three-day event, organised by the CGCC Diaspora Family Fellowship, was themed, ‘Global Mission and Globalisation: Avenues for expressing the dominion mandate.’

“I remember that I was on a London highway one day when Mrs Adeboye called. She had sent a text and I think she also made phone calls but I didn’t know who (it was),” he said.

The clergyman said the message was signed with the initials, ‘MGO,’ a short form for Mummy GO as she is fondly called by the RCCG congregation.

On Adeboye wife’s call, Bakare asserted that he placed a phone call and said “good afternoon, I got a text from this number”.

She said, “Haa, don’t you know me again?”

I said, “Who is speaking?” and she mentioned her name. My mouth is too small to call her by name.

“I almost collapsed. I said, ‘ma, I didn’t know it was you.’ She said, ‘Well, we were watching television and I saw you using a walking stick; I want to know that you are well.’ I said it was illustrated sermon.

“So, you can see that they care about me and I do care about them.”

TheNewsGuru.com recalls that Bakare had intended to be Nigeria’s 16th President.

He declared interest in the 2023 presidential race and contested under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He failed to secure a single vote at the primaries of the party.

Bakare declared his interest at the ‘Unveiling Project 16 to Nigerians in diaspora’ event tagged “The portrait is a new Nigeria” held virtually.

The clergy described the past administrations as “cake eaters” adding that it was time to have the 16th administration of “cake bakers.”

The Ogun State indigene was President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate in 2011 when the latter ran unsuccessfully in that year’s presidential poll.

He warned that ahead of the 2023 general elections, “the Christians [are] against Muslims, the north against the south, the south-west against the south-east and the southeast against the north.”

“This situation calls for a certain kind of leader,” he said.

See what the ‘hidden’ Islamic inscription on RCCG’s pendant means

A video of a Redeemed Christian Church of God’s (RCCG) neck chain with a pendant, which has a ‘hidden’ Islamic inscription engraved in it, surfaced on the Internet on Friday.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that an unidentified woman shared the video of the neck chain, which she said was widely sold at the just concluded RCCG annual convention.

The neck chain has a pendant covered with wording and the logo of the just concluded RCCG special convention on the outside but when the pendant was ripped open, it revealed Islamic content on it.

The video showed the Arabic wording, الله on one side of the pendant and a picture of a mosque on the other side.

The woman was heard in the video saying, “They came o; but they failed to the glory of God. This chain was bought in the camp. A lot of our teenagers bought it. Please, if you bought this for your children or you bought it from anywhere, please open, open it now and see what is written there.

“At the back of this 70th jubilee [pendant], there is a write up, which I don’t understand. There is a writing there. When you open the other side, you will see a mosque. I don’t understand.

“So, please anybody who bought this for their children, please open and see what is there. And please don’t let them use it again. Remove it completely from home. I don’t understand what is the meaning. But I think it is evil because it is covered”.

TNG reports that Google Translate returned the wording on the pendant, الله, as seen in the video shared below, as Allah, meaning ‘the one and only God’ in Islam.

The programme, with the theme, “Perfect Jubilee,” began on Monday, August 8 and will end on Sunday, August 14, 2022.

While noting that he would have had 12 biological children, Adeboye said he could not have himself biologically, he had through thousands of his church members whom he tagged his “spiritual children”.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that when Adeboye asked church members who had their babies in the last one year to come out, a large number of parents danced forward with their babies to the altar areas both in the new and old auditoriums of the church.

The former Mathematics lecturer at the University of Lagos and University of Ilorin said the RCCG is “a mission where God multiplies and very soon, there will be nothing called barrenness in our midst”.

“See the homes where there used to be sorrow but now there is joy. I love children because my father in heaven loves them. If I had my way, I would have had 12 of my own but what I couldn’t have biologically, I can now have,” Adeboye said as he received the women and their babies.

He added that God asked him to name what he wanted for this year’s convention of the church and he asked for babies. He said God promised him 110,000 babies for waiting couples.

RCCG: Some persons mocked me after losing my son – Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed that he was mocked when he lost his son in 2021.

Adeboye mentioned this on Tuesday night at the ongoing 70th Annual Convention of the church.

The programme which is an annual event  began on Monday, August 8th and would last through Sunday, August 14th, 2022.

This year’s annual convention is tagged ‘Perfect Jubilee’

Reacting to the shock news of his son’s death last year, Adeboye said God carried him when he was in the saddest period of his life in May 2021 after the death of his 42-year-old son, Dare.

He said, “Some of you have heard this before: when I was in the saddest period of my life, with so many questions and I know that even in my deep sorrow some people were still laughing at me, I got a text from one of my daughters.

“All she said was: ‘Daddy, let God carry you’. And that put an end to any problem; it ended my sorrows. It renewed my faith.”

Dare, the third child of 80-year-old Adeboye, died on May 4, 2021 in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, where he was based with his family. Married to Temiloluwa, the deceased was the Assistant Pastor in charge of Region (Youth) 35 before his death and father to three daughters.

However,  there was massive shake-up in some leadership positions at RCCG, and it was announced on Monday at the Redemption camp.

  • Major shake-up hits Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG

Major shake-up hits Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG

A major reorganizational tsunami has hit the Redeemed Christian Church of God with compulsory retirements and redeployment of top echelon Pastors in the Church.

Top on the list is the Church’s National Overseer, Pastor Joseph Obayemi who was retired seemingly on account of reaching the age of 70.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye who made the shocking announcement during a meeting with the Church’s ministers on Sunday also announced that Pastor Sunday Akande is to replace Obayemi as the RCCG National Overseer. He will serve for two years.

Promoted too is Pastor Kalu Ndukwe who will serve as the Overseer  of the Africa Continent

Daddy GO as Pastor Adeboye is fondly called also gave an hint as to who would take over from him, saying the person is going to be a young person.

Another shocking change is the removal of Pastor Johnson Odesola who has been in charge of the Administration and Personnel of the Church. He was relieved of the two portfolios. Two pastors were appointed to handle the portfolios.

The new pastor in charge of Personnel is Julius Olalekan while Pastor Dele Balogun was appointed to take charge of Admin. It is not yet clear the new designation of Pastor Odesola who also serves as the Overseer of the RCCG in the Middle East.

The RCCG which is currently celebrating its 70th anniversary was established in 1952 by Rev. Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi who passed on in 1980.

Before his transition, Akindayomi had instructed that Pastor  Adeboye who joined the Church in 1973 would succeed him as the General Overseer.  Adeboye stepped into Akindayomi’s shoes in 1981.

He has served in that position for more than 41 years and still counting.

In December 2016 Pastor Adeboye appointed Pastor Obayemi as the church’s overseer in Nigeria. Obayemi was given an additional portfolio to serve as the Overseer of the RCCG in North Africa in 2021. He was also addressed as an Officer in charge of Nigeria.

But Pastor Adeboye announced his retirement along with some others during the ministers’ conference. Obayemi is in his 70s.

Adeboye explained that the retirement age for all RCCG pastors will now be pegged at 70 years. He said however that some of them may be given lesser roles after retirement.

The RCCG has now pegged the retirement age at 70, adding that those who are interested still will be given less stressful positions to manage.

Meanwhile, pa  Adeboye said the position of the national overseer of the church will now be on a two-year tenure basis while the pastor occupying the position will operate from the redemption camp.

All churches in the camp would henceforth report to him. He will also represent Pastor Adeboye in special assignments

The Redemption Camp according to Pastor Adeboye will henceforth carry the tag of a city just like the Vatican City.

He banned hawking and selling of goods along the roads in the camp saying such practice will no longer be tolerated. Offenders will be prosecuted while their goods will be confiscated. Indecent dressing in the camp environment will no longer be tolerated according to him.

Adeboye who clocked 80 early this year also named the ring road on the camp after the founder of the church, Pastor Josiah Akindayomi. Some other roads were named after some retired pastors of the church.

The RCCG overseer informed further at the ministers’ meeting that the maximum speed limit on the camp is now 40 KMH. He said those who exceed the limit would be prosecuted.

The old secretariat of the church according to Pastor Adeboye would be converted into a museum where historical items on the RCCG would be exhibited.
