  • Re-election: Osinbanjo gives testimony at RCCG’s Holy Ghost service

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on Friday testified about his re-election as the Vice-President of Nigeria at the March edition of Holy Ghost service organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God .

TheNewsGuru recalls that All Progressives Congress’s Muhammadu Buhari was re-elected as Nigeria’s president for another four-year term after facing down stiff competition from his closest challenger Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party.

An excited Osinbajo gave God all the glory, praise and thanksgiving over his re-election and also recalled how God protected him after his helicopter crash landed in Kabba earlier in February 2019. I want to thank God first for the salvation of my soul and I have two testimonies. The first Holy Ghost night on February 2nd I was here but I came quite late. After the service, I went to the see Daddy in the office and he said he was going to pay for me. My wife and I were there and we knelt for the prayer. During the prayer, he said ‘Father I want you to give my son very special protection’.

“He prayed three times, stopped and prayed again. I was surprised as to why Daddy was praying about special protection. Later that day, A helicopter I was travelling in, crash landed at Kabba in Kogi State. All twelve of us in the helicopter survived without a crash .I want to bless the name of the lord for that mighty deliverance”

Speaking further, he expressed his delight at being re-elected as the Vice-President of Nigeria.

“My second testimony is that on February 23rd, I was re-elected with the president as the Vice-president of Nigeria for a second term.I want to praise the name of the lord”

Buhari and Osinbajo had, earlier on Wednesday, received certificates of return as President-elect and Vice President-elect.

  • Drop re-election bid, clear your name in 9 Mobile, Keystone Bank scams, PDP tells Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to drop his re-election bid over his alleged involvement in the acquisition of shares in a telecom giant, 9 Mobile and Keystone Bank.

The President, the main opposition party said, no longer has the moral standing to seek re-election until he addresses the allegation.

The presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had, in a statement on Wednesday, accused Buhari of soiling his hands in the alleged acquisition of shares in 9 Mobile and Keystone Bank Plc.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, spokesman for the PDP Campaign, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the President should perish the thought of going ahead with his campaign without clearing his name.

Stating the issue borders on Buhari’s integrity, Ologbondiyan urged the President not to bring his exulted office into disrepute.

The campaign said: “The PDP Presidential Campaign challenges President Buhari to explain how his family members came about the sum of N1.032 trillion for this scandalous acquisition.

Nigerians are not interested in mere rhetoric or attempts by the Buhari Presidency to divert public attention from the issue at hand, but demand that President Buhari, who hitherto prides himself as Mr. Integrity, squarely addresses these grave issues in person.

This is not an issue for President Buhari’s aides to howl about in the media, it touches directly on his person, particularly his perception as a symbol of the Talakawas. He must therefore address them on this issue.

It is a norm that he who comes to equity must come with clean hands. President Buhari and his family members have entangled themselves in corruption.

Mr. President’s hands can no longer be said to be clean, until he proves otherwise.

The PPCO wants Nigerians and the whole world to note that President Buhari’s refusal to personally address this matter means consent.

We, therefore, dare President Buhari to put forth a denial on this disclosure by our candidate and we will spare no thoughts in furnishing the public with details of his corrupt activities within and outside Nigeria.”

It added: “Our party has full details of how persons related to President Buhari, by consanguinity and affinity, have been paved the way to loot trillions of naira from government agencies for corrupt acquisition of shares in major companies, purchase expensive property within and outside Nigeria, as well as to finance their very luxury lifestyles, under Mr. President’s cover.

In fact, no Nigerian has made more money in the last three and half years than relations of President Buhari, many of whom have found themselves controlling stupendous wealth frittered from our economy, yet our President is asking Nigerians to get ready for more hardship in the coming year.”

  • 2019: Why majority of Benue residents oppose Buhari’s re-election – Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has revealed why ‘the majority’ of Benue residents are opposed to the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.
While explaining that the people of the state have ‘nothing against Fulani people’ as it is being insinuated, he adduced reasons for the Benue people’s alleged discontent with the President.
Ortom made this known in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Makurdi and signed by his Special Adviser on Media and ICT, Mr. Tahav Agerzua.

“We have lived with the Fulani people for ages; we have nothing against them. Even the Fulani people know that we have nothing against them,” Ortom said; recalling that Benue people voted overwhelmingly for former presidents Shehu Shagari and Umaru Yar’Adua in 1979, 1983 and 2007 respectively.

“We also voted for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, but while Shagari and Yar’Adua reciprocated the support they received by patronising Benue people through federal appointments and projects, President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC have failed to register any positive federal presence in the state,” Ortom said.

“But from my findings, majority of Benue residents are opposed to the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC, because they have failed to register any positive federal presence in the state.

“Many people also feel that the APC-led Federal Government has failed to secure lives and property,’’ he added.

The governor promised to work with his predecessor, Dr. Gabriel Suswam, to bring development to the state.

The statement said that Ortom and Suswam had put the past behind them and had resolved to work together.

In the meantime, Suswam has appealed to Ortom’s close aides to educate the people on the governor’s achievements and his challenges.

He also urged Ortom to entrust his fate in God’s hands so that the creator would always resolve challenges in the governor’s favour.

  • 2019: Coalition can’t stop Buhari’s re-election – APC

Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa, Alhaji Aliyu Bello, said that the new Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) cannot stop President Muhammadu Buhari `s re-election in 2019.

Bello told newsmen in Lafia on Tuesday, that Buhari came to power on the goodwill of the people, adding that he would still leverage on that given the achievements recorded so far.

He added that the coalition was a gang up of the political class, who were not comfortable with the feat recorded by Buhari, especially in the fight against corruption.

“More than 90 per cent of Nigerians are not card carrying members of political parties but voters, who the president is counting on to be re-elected in 2019.

“The amount of love shown through the mammoth crowd that normally greeted his visits to many parts of the country in recent time is a pointer to his acceptance in spite of all the antics by the opposition,” Bello said.

He, however, said that the coalition was a wakeup call for the APC to redouble its efforts ahead of 2019.

“As a political party that wants its membership to grow, losing any member to another party calls for concern.

“As we are losing some, other vibrant Nigerians are joining our fold and we will work assiduously to bring more to joins us,” he added.

He expressed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a credible, free and fair election in 2019.

Bello said that the use of the card reader machine would make the process very difficult to manipulate.

Reports have it that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) joined over 30 other political parties and groups to form the CUPP.

Reports showed that leaders of the merging political parties including the Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC) signed a memorandum of Understanding to oust President Buhari in 2019.

  • 2019: Buhari has done more than enough to be reelected – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, says the 2019 re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government will be very easy.

The minister stated this on Tuesday in Oyo while inspecting the 52-kilometre dualised Oyo-Ogbomosho road project under construction by Reynold Construction Company (RCC)

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the N47.5 billion project is the section two of the entire Ibadan-Ilorin road dualisation construction project.

Section one of the road construction project, which is Ibadan-Oyo, as well as section three which is Ogbomoso-Ilorin, had been completed

Addressing newsmen at the construction site, Mohammed said the administration “is so confident of its re-election in 2019 because of what are being delivered in terms of infrastructure and social welfare.

“The proper and easy ways you can get the electorate to vote for you are by keeping your promises to them, delivering on your promises and embarking on projects which touch their lives.

“Either in term of infrastructure or social interventions, we are working everyday for the people. We are working for the common man in this country.

“As of today, we feed 8.2 million children in public primary schools all over Nigeria.

“In the process, we engaged 7000 cooks and the feeding programme in about 24 states covered 62,000 Primary schools.

“These are what we are doing and that is why we are so confident that our re-election will be easy,” he said.

The minister said the administration would not engage in banters with critics but will continue to showcase its achievements for people to see and make conclusions.

On the road project which the contractor said was 52 per cent completed, the minister gave an assurance that funding would no longer be the constraint to its timely completion.

“Funding will no longer be a challenge to many of our critical road projects.

“This is because the N191 billion presidential intervention fund has been put in place and critical roads like this will benefit from the funding,” he said.

Mohammed said people were not able to see and appreciate the level of work done on the Oyo-Ogbomosho road project because it was been constructed along Oyo town by-pass

“You need to come here to see the amount of work that is going on.

“I am happy that it is not a paper project, we have been told by the contractor that it is 52 per cent completed.

“I am very confident that we are not going to encounter any funding challenge,” he said.

He said the project was being financed from the N100 billion Sukuk loan secured by the Federal Government

“We took the Sukuk loan of N100billion which was divided into six equal parts each for the geopolitical zones.

“We decided in the south-west zone that the Oyo-Ogbomosho road should benefit from our own part of Sukuk.

“That is why we are able to get the contractor back on site to complete the project,” he said.

Mr Omotayo Awosanya, the Federal Controller of Works in Oyo State, who conducted the minister round the project, said the road contract was awarded in June 2010.

“The initial completion period was for 40 months. It was supposed to have been completed by October 2013.

“When it was initially awarded by the previous administration, there was no proper funding which caused the delay.

“Since the present regime of President Buhari, funding has improved and the project is going on well.

“We are also lucky that this project is benefitting from the Sukuk fund in addition to what the budget can provide,” he said.

Awosanya said the government had so far paid the contractor about N26 billion from the N47.5 billion total contract cost.

On the significance of the road, Awosanya said, “it is a corridor of the extension of Lagos- Ibadan that will accommodate traffic generated in Ibadan and Oyo going towards the North.”

On his part, the Project Manager, Mr Harel Vaknin, who spoke on behalf of Reynolds Construction Company (RCC), said it is the main highway linking the Western and Northern parts of the country.

He said the four-lane highway consists of 7.30 metre wide roadway in each direction with two interchange bridge construction.

  • 2019: ‘Why Buhari’s re-election will be difficult’

Former Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid would be difficult in 2019 due to his failure to improve the living conditions of Nigerians.

Bafarawa who stated this in an interview with Garkuwa Radio, maintained that Buhari’s failed to improve the nation’s economy while the security situation has worsened in the past two years.

He, however, noted that the living standard of Nigerians had worsened in the last three years with wanton killings in some parts of the country.

The former governor said, “As far as I am concerned, it will not be easy for Buhari to win election in 2019. He has not fulfilled the promises made to the people while their living conditions have worsened.

“In fact, had it been he met the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians, things would be easy for him and I will have no reason whatsoever to contest for the presidency.”

Bafarawa added that, “It is very disheartening that all those who supported Buhari to win the presidential election had been abandoned. Infact, his close associate, Malam Buba Galadima, is still in pains for being neglected by Buhari.

“I played a major role in the emergence of Buhari as the candidate of the defunct ANPP in 2003 but today we are no longer together.

“I have not decided whether to run for the presidency in 2019. Of course people have been urging me to contest but I will make my decision at the right time.”
