La Liga: Real Madrid crowned champions for the 36th time

Despite resting a number of key players, Real Madrid cruised to a  3-0 victory against Cadiz and few hours later emerged champions of the Spanish La liga for the 36th time in their history.

Barcelona lost 4-2 to Girona and handed Real Madrid their 36th title.

Goals from Brahim Díaz, Jude Bellingham and Joselu earned Madrid an eventually comfortable win over lowly Cádiz. With four games remaining to end the season.

After dominating the first half, they finally managed to break the deadlock with Díaz first netting a curling shot from the edge of the box in the 51st minute. He then assisted the substitute Bellingham to score with a tidy finish from close range in the 68th minute before Joselu tapped into an empty net in a counterattack in added time.

With four games remaining, Real climbed to 87 points and extended their lead to 14 points over second-placed Barcelona and 16 clear of Girona in third.

La Liga: Real Madrid on verge of title with Diaz stunner

Brahim Diaz starred as Real Madrid moved closer to the La Liga title with victory over Cadiz.

The former Manchester City winger netted a sublime strike, firing into the top corner from just inside the box in the 51st minute.

Diaz was influential again when Jude Bellingham got on the end of his cutback to double Real’s lead by ghosting into the box and poking home from close range.

The England midfielder started on the bench but scored just three minutes after entering the game.

Joselu scored a tap-in to wrap up the victory in added time after Nacho raced through into the box and squared for his team-mate to finish with ease.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois returned to the side for his first match of the season following a nine-month injury lay-off because of a knee ligament injury.

With four league matches remaining, Real Madrid need just one more point to seal the title.

However, if Barcelona fail to beat Girona later in the day (17:30 BST), Carlo Ancelotti’s side will be crowned champions for the 36th time.

Focus now turns to next Wednesday when Los Blancos host Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final, with the tie finely poised.

Real Madrid defender, Antonio Rudiger declares Wizkid his favourite artiste

Germany and Real Madrid defender, Antonio Rudiger, has revealed his favourite musical artiste.

Rudider said that Grammy-winning Nigerian Afrobeats star, Wizkid is his favourite musician, saying that he doesn’t joke with his songs.

The Sierra Leone-born Germany international made this known during an interview interview with Le Media Carre.

Rudiger has been highly inspiring for Real Madrid and they are already in the semi-final of this season’s Champions League and start a bigger chance of making it to the final after snatching a draw against Bayern Munchen on Tuesday night at Alianz Arena.

However, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain might be on opposite sides of the semi-final but that has not stopped the German international from pouring fuel on the fire in what could be a tantalising affair if the Spanish and French teams manage to collide in the final of the UCL on the 1st of June.

  • We’d have beaten Barca 4-0 if… – Toni Kroos

    We’d have beaten Barca 4-0 if… – Toni Kroos

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos says they weren’t at their best for victory over Barcelona.

    Real won 4-2 on Sunday.

But Kroos says: “The truth is that it was not a good match in terms of level, it must be said. Both sides. Both made many mistakes and lost many balls. In reality it was a match that if we had played well, we could have beaten them 4-0. Really.

“They didn’t have much drive, especially in the first half.

“We won 14 (Clasicos), drew 3 and lost 11. I verified it today.

“Sometimes I was behind. After three or four years I was definitely far behind, I even lost 4-0 at home. I think in the last two or three years we have won six or seven in a row.”

  • Modric sets deadline for Real Madrid contract offer

Modric sets deadline for Real Madrid contract offer

Luka Modric is set to announce his departure of Real Madrid.

That’s according to Okdiario’s chief pundit Eduardo Inda, when speaking on El Chiringuito. Modric is off contract in June.

Inda said: “A player who is a Ballon d’Or, is Luka Modric, and he is thinking that if in the next few weeks he does not receive a renewal offer, which I think he will not receive, after the (Champions League) semifinals he will announce his departure from Real Madrid after 12 seasons.”

Inda added, “He is now playing at another level, in the Clasico he was a starter.

    “Modric would like to stay.’

  • I don’t want to give my opinion on Xavi – Ancelotti

I don’t want to give my opinion on Xavi – Ancelotti

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has refused to comment on Xavi’s reaction to the match officials after El Classico clash.

Barcelona twice blew the lead to lose 3-2 on Sunday, with Lamine Yamal having a goal disallowed by VAR.

Real came from 2-1 down to win with Jude Bellingham scoring in injury-time.

He said: “It’s a very big step towards winning LaLiga. We’ve got a big advantage, but we can’t lower our guard. We need to pick up a few more points and these games will help us prepare for the Champions League semi-finals.

“Vinicius didn’t like coming off and wanted to keep going. The forwards have put in a huge effort, especially after the last game. We always ask the forwards to defend and work for the team. They’re the fastest, they try to attack deep and they use a lot of energy. I understand that he wanted to continue, but we had to bring fresh legs on.

“Bellingham arrived at the right time. He put in a lot of hard work, a lot of effort and he hadn’t scored for a long time. He scored a goal today that could be crucial for the league.

“I don’t want to give my opinion on what Xavi thinks because everybody has their own opinion. It was an even, competitive and hard-fought game. Barcelona had some good spells, just like us. We managed to win this game with the last bit of energy and that puts us in a good position in the table.

“As always, there are some situations. The goal wasn’t given because there was no clear image to determine that the ball had gone in. The penalty for the foul on Lucas Vázquez seemed clear to me. I’ll concentrate on our performance because it was good as was Barcelona’s. They showed a lot of quality with their youngsters and the game was of a high standard.”

Lucas Vázquez’s performance, he added: “He’s a very important player, not only for what he did today, but throughout the season. He’s playing at a very high level, he competes with Carvajal, who is one of the best full-backs in the world. He’s made a difference in other games as well. Carvajal could play today, but other players are doing very well this season, like Lucas and Modrić. They are helping us very much in situations like this after the heavy workload of Wednesday’s game.”

Real Madrid have established an 11 point gap between it and second place Barcelona on the La liga table.

This is following an exciting 3-2 win over the Catalans in an thrilling El Clasico clash on Sunday night at the santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid.

Andreas Christensen opened the flood light of goal  with a powerful header, before Vinicius Jr equalized from the spot.

Fermin Lopez put Barca in front again, but Lucas Vazquez popped up unmarked at the back post to make it 2-2.

English boy, Jude Bellingham blasted  home the winner in added time, as Carlo Ancelotti’s men took a big step towards winning the La Liga title.

Real are also on course for the double this season, as they play Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

  • UCL: My boys knew they would defeat City on penalties – Ancelotti

UCL: My boys knew they would defeat City on penalties – Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelloti, the  Real Madrid manager, has claimed his boys were very confident going into the penalty shoot out against Manchester city in Wednesday UEFA champions League.

Recall that both teams played out a 3-3 draw in the first leg played at the Bernabeu in Spain.

They also played out a 1-1 draw at the Etihad and have to settle with penalty shoot out.

There were no goals in extra time and the match went to a shoot-out, where Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic missed.

Ancelotti told Movistar: “We started well, went ahead and then we had to fight to survive, we had to suffer. City had control because we defended too deep.

“By the time the penalty shootout came, we were totally convinced we’d go through.

“We defended really, really well tonight. This was about survival. Madrid is a club based on always fighting to stay in situations where there seems to be no way out – but we always find a way.”

  • UCL: Bayern send Arsenal packing after 3-2 aggregate win, Real Madrid evict City 4-3 on Penalties

UCL: Bayern send Arsenal packing after 3-2 aggregate win, Real Madrid evict City 4-3 on Penalties

Arsenal football club on Wednesday night exited the money spinning UEFA  Champions League after losing 3-2 on aggregate to Bayern Munich.

Joshua Kimmich jumped up to nod Raphael Guerreiro’s cross in the 63rd minute to send the Germans through to the semi-finals 3-2 on aggregate after the two teams had drawn 2-2 in London in the first leg.

While Harry Kane had just nine touches in the opening 45 minutes, Neuer was forced into another save by Martin Odegaard’s deflected attempt, which had the long-serving Bayern Munich keeper scrambling across his line.

With so much at stake for both teams, it was perhaps understandable chances were in limited supply but the second half was a livelier affair with Leon Goretzka heading against the post before Guerreiro’s follow up was scrambled away by Raya, via the post.

But Kimmich’s attacking header proved decisive and ensured Arsenal’s wait to win the Champions League for the first time goes on.

Real Madrid continued their quest for a 15th UEFA Champions League title after a dramatic 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory eliminated holders Manchester City and booked a fourth successive semi-final appearance.

Cityzens boss Pep Guardiola was able to bring back three key players into the starting XI from last week’s 3-3 draw in the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in the form of goalkeeper Ederson, captain Kyle Walker and integral midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

The return of Walker might have meant Carlo Ancelotti’s ploy of overloading players down the Real Madrid left in the first leg, including Rodrygo, would not prove as fruitful this time, but it was the Brazilian international who struck after an uncharacteristically cautious opening from both clubs.

Madrid worked the ball into the right of the area well with Vinícius Júnior finding compatriot Rodrygo in space with a low centre. Ederson was perfectly positioned to repel the winger’s initial right-footed effort, but the rebound sat up invitingly for the visiting No11 to place just out of reach of his fellow countryman.

City could have sealed progress deep in normal time, but De Bruyne was unable to double his tally, curling a long-range effort narrowly over the bar before side-footing over from close range.

The teams were unable to maintain the intensity of the first 90 minutes in extra time, City substitute Julián Álvarez unable to beat Lunin at the goalkeeper’s near post deep into the additional half hour.

It was Lunin who proved to be the hero in the shoot-out, guessing correctly to deny Mateo Kovačić and Bernardo Silva after Ederson had stopped Luka Modrić’s kick. The 14-time winners of this competition duly confirmed their place in the last four thanks to Antonio Rüdiger’s low penalty into the bottom corner.
