I could’ve left Arsenal for Man Utd, Real Madrid – Wenger

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits he could’ve taken charge of Manchester United.

Speaking in a new documentary film, which is out in cinemas this week, Wenger has explained how he thinks something may have been “broken” after he guided Arsenal to an unbeaten Premier League season in 2003-04.

The Frenchman has revealed that in 2007, when current owner Stan Kroenke first started buying shares in the club, he came close to leaving.

“2007 was a decisive point,” said Wenger. “It’s the first time I could feel there were tensions inside the board.

“David Dein had an agreement with Stan Kroenke, who he wanted to bring in. I was torn between being loyal to the club and being loyal to David.

“Sometimes I wonder was something broken after that Invincible season? Because I had done what I really wanted deeply. Is it a symbol? Is it linked with me that after that when I thought that I had achieved the highest level that I didn’t do it again?”

David Dein, who was vice-chairman at the time, has revealed he persuaded Wenger to stay in charge of Arsenal.

“He actually wanted to leave,” said Dein. “And I said to him: ‘You have to stay, Arsene.’”

Wenger added in the new documentary: “I still today wonder if I did the right thing, because life was never exactly the same after.

“I thought, I now have to go to the end of this project. I could have gone to the French national team, the English national team twice or three times even.

“I could have gone twice to Real Madrid, I could have gone to Juventus, to Paris Saint-Germain, even to Man United. My fatal flaw is that I love too much where I am…where I was.”

Real Madrid have lost their personality without Ramos – Matthaus

German great Lothar Matthaus believes Real Madrid are missing Sergio Ramos.

Ramos left Real Madrid in August for PSG after failing to receive a new contract offer from the Spanish giants.

The veteran is yet to play for PSG, but Matthaus is adamant Real Madrid miss his presence.

He told Vamos: “Real Madrid have lost their personality without Ramos.

“(David) Alaba is a great player, but he doesn’t have that personality. He is not a leader like Ramos.”

Real Madrid willing to double Rudiger Chelsea wages

La Liga club Real Madrid are willing to double Toni Rudiger’s wages to tempt him away from Chelsea.

Rudiger is coming off contract this season and remains among the lowest paid senior players on Chelsea’s books at £100,000-a-week.

Real Madrid are prepared to offer Rudiger a deal worth £200,000-a-week.

The Spanish giants have identified the Chelsea centre-back as a key transfer target ahead of next season, reports The Sun.

Rudiger is out of contract at Stamford Bridge next summer and discussions over a new deal with his current employers have stalled.

Bayern Munich, Tottenham and Manchester City have all been linked with the former Roma stopper.

Real Madrid plan January move for Antonio Rudiger

La Liga giant Real Madrid are preparing a January move for Chelsea defender Toni Rudiger.

Off contract in June, Rudiger has so far resisted Chelsea’s attempts to discuss new terms. Instead, his brother and agent is taking soundings from interested clubs across Europe.

AS says Real Madrid are keen on the Germany international and would consider making a January offer.

Real coach Carlo Ancelotti is a fan, along with the club’s front office. Ancelotti has concerns about his defensive options after losing Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos in the summer.

As such, Real are weighing up making a January move for Rudiger.

  • Differences between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich – Alaba

Differences between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich – Alaba

David Alaba admits he’s noticed little difference between Real Madrid and former club Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid at least operate in a very similar manner, at least according to Alaba who switched Bavaria for the Spanish capital in the summer.

After seeing his contract with Bayern Munich expire, Alaba elected to begin a new adventure in LaLiga Santander, and he has been a revelation for Real Madrid’s defence ever since.

“Bayern Munich are one of the biggest clubs in the world, the same as Real Madrid,” detailed Alaba in an interview with Kicker.

“Both teams represent absolute success. However, at Real Madrid everything is a little bigger, with all due respect to Bayern.”

  • Vinicius hits double to send Real Madrid top of La Liga

Vinicius hits double to send Real Madrid top of La Liga

Real Madrid moved top of La Liga on goal difference with a narrow victory at Elche.

Vinicius Junior opened the scoring midway through the first half, latching onto Mariano’s flick-on and sending a low finish into the corner.

Elche’s Raul Guti was sent off for a rash challenge on Toni Kroos before Vinicius doubled Real’s lead with a cool finish from Luka Modric’s pass.

Pere Milla scored late on to give Elche hope, but Real held on.

The hosts matched Carlo Ancelotti’s side – who were without injured top scorer Karim Benzema – for large spells and could have opened the scoring through Lucas Boye, but the Argentine’s shot was superbly saved by Thibaut Courtois.

Lucas Perez should have restored parity after Vinicius’ opener but turned Javier Pastore’s flick well wide of Courtois’ goal.

Real Sociedad can reclaim top spot on Sunday evening when they host Basque rivals Athletic Bilbao.

Ancelotti on Hazard: I’ve never forced a player to stay, he can leave

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti insists he’d never keep a player against his will.

Asked specifically about whether he would allow a player who is not performing at their best, such as Eden Hazard, to leave if he asked, the Italian was firm.

“I have never in my coaching career forced a player who wants to leave to stay,” Ancelotti said during Friday’s pre-match press conference.

“In my personal opinion, there is no question about it. If a player wants to leave, he is going to leave.

“There is not much doubt about this…”

  • La Liga: David Alaba scores first Madrid goal in Barca win

La Liga: David Alaba scores first Madrid goal in Barca win

Real Madrid beat Barcelona in a new-look El Clasico to go top of La Liga and leave Ronald Koeman’s side down in eighth in the table.

It was the first Clasico without Barca icon Lionel Messi or Real legend Sergio Ramos – who both joined Paris St-Germain in the summer – since 2004.

David Alaba started and finished a counter attack for the first and Lucas Vazquez got a second in added time.

Sergio Aguero scored his first Barca goal but it was almost the last kick.

Alaba’s goal was the best of the game. The former Bayern Munich defender won the ball from Barca striker Memphis Depay on the edge of his box before starting a counter-attack.

He finished it off by running onto Rodrygo’s pass before slamming a shot across home keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen into the far corner.

It was his first goal for Real Madrid, who he joined in the summer, on his El Clasico debut.

The final two goals came in injury time with Vazquez tapping in after Marco Asensio’s shot was saved by Ter Stegen.

Substitute Aguero buried Sergino Dest’s cross, in what was only Barcelona’s second shot on target, but the final whistle went seconds later.

  • Valdano reveals how Ronaldo’s tough advice shaped Benzema

Valdano reveals how Ronaldo’s tough advice shaped Benzema

Former Real Madrid GM Jorge Valdano has revealed how some home truths from Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo helped Karim Benzema get his career on track.

Valdano says some sober advice from Ronaldo changed Benzema’s trajectory.

“His change came from an improvement in his professionalism,” Valdano revealed. “The boy played with Cristiano, the super-professional. And Cristiano, who admires him a lot, told him: Boy, you’re not going to make it at Real Madrid like this.’

“Karim learned from that advice. Intelligent people change for the better.

“And Cristiano’s departure was also important for him because it forced him to assume that leading role.”

  • Chelsea set price limit to re-sign Hazard from Real Madrid

Chelsea set price limit to re-sign Hazard from Real Madrid

Chelsea sporting director Marina Granovskaia has made it clear the club will not go over a specific figure to bring back winger Eden Hazard from Real Madrid.

The Belgian has struggled to find his feet at Real after a series of injury issues since his move from the Blues in 2019.

Hazard is a Chelsea legend, and the fans would welcome him back to Stamford Bridge with open arms.

According to El Nacional, £34 million would be Chelsea’s limit to try and sign the 30-year-old Belgian, either in the winter or summer transfer windows.

Whether Hazard is eager to return, given the quality of Chelsea’s first team options in attacking positions, is another matter.

Real have also proposed including Blues fullback Reece James in any potential deal for Hazard.
