    La Liga: Ancelotti picks Modric as new captain of Real Madrid

    Following the exit of Nacho Fernandez, Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti has selected another player as the new captain of the team.

    Departed Nacho is expected to sign for newly-promoted Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsia in the coming days.

    According to COPE, Ancelotti has installed veteran midfielder Luka Modric as the new Real skipper.

    Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez will be handed the vice-captaincy roles.

    Los Blancos still have a lot of experience within their squad, but have lost two key players in Nacho and the retiring Toni Kroos.

    This is the fourth consecutive year Real will lose their captain after the departures of Marcelo, Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos.

    Amid move to Real Madrid, Mbappe demands €100m from PSG

    Newly signed Real Madrid player, Kylian Mbappe has asked Paris Saint-Germain to pay him €100m ahead of his move to the Galaticos.

    L’Equipe reports that the amount is the wages PSG have not paid Mbappe for April, May and do not intend to pay for June either.

    The 25-year-old’s current contract with the Ligue 1 side will expire on the 30th of June and the issue must be resolved before then.

    The relationship between Mbappe and PSG has been rocky ever since he refused to sign a new deal.

    The French forward was frozen out of the first team before returning later on down the line.

    Mbappe will now leave on a free transfer to join Real Madrid.

    The player is currently in the French squad to the ongoing Euro 2024 in Germany.

    La Liga: El Clasico to hold on October 27 at Bernabéu as Spanish League releases 2024/25 fixtures

    The date for the first leg of the 2024/25 season  El Clasico battle between Champions Real Madrid and Barcelona will be played on October 27 at the Bernabéu.

    This was confirmed on Tuesday after La Liga released fixtures for the 2024/2025 season.

    It would be recalled that the  two rivals faced each other three times last season – twice in La Liga and again in the Spanish Super Cup final. Madrid won all three.

    The el Clasico reverse fixture  between Madrid and Barca will hold on the 11th of May 2025.

    However, Barcelona would begin  their league campaign away at Valencia, while Madrid travel to Mallorca, both on August 18.

    Real Madrid under the tutelage of Carlo Ancelotti are double champions after winning the La Liga  and the UEFA Champions League titles last season.

    Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is hoping Toni Kroos reverses his retirement decision.

    Kroos is scheduled to hang up the boots after Germany’s Euros campaign.

    But Ancelotti told ll Giornale: “Luka (Modric) is a unique example of quality and professionalism.

    “Unfortunately, Kroos decided to stop, he is a German in his decisions, but he will continue living in Madrid. I told him that if he changes his stance in autumn, we start again with a call.”

    He added: “Germany, who play at home, have an interesting team. Italy has lacked a generational shift after the 2021 victory, I don’t know what chances we have (of winning).”

    Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid manager on Monday gave reasons the UEFA Champions League winner will not participate in FIFA’s expanded Club World Cup next season.

    United States will host the expanded edition next year July.

    A total of 32 teams from across the world have been invited to take part in the expanded edition.

    Ancelotti, who guided Real to a double of La Liga and the Champions League this season, claims that FIFA have offered around €20million for their participation.

    According to the Italian, Real will not be the only team rejecting FIFA’s offer.

    “FIFA forgets that the teams will not participate in the new Club World Cup.

    “A single Real Madrid match is worth €20million and FIFA wants to give us that amount for the entire tournament.

    “We will decline the invitation,” Ancelotti told Il Giornale.

    Toni Kroos has revealed he’ll be staying with Real Madrid after retirement.

    The midfielder, 34, will take part in this summer’s European Championship finals with Germany before hanging up the boots.

    Kroos says he will  then take up a post inside Real Madrid’s academy.

    “I will continue the podcast with my brother Felix – and I will work in Real Madrid’s academy,” he told AS.

    “From September, the Icon League (futsal tournament) also starts. But it is clear that I will not take on 18 projects and be as busy going forward as I was as a player.”

    The Balon D’Or holder posited that Real Madrid of Spain and Manchester City of England are currently the best  two clubs in the world.

    It would be recalled that Real  Madrid won both the La liga titles and the UEFA Champions League while City won the English Premier League.

    Messi played for Barcelona, who are Los Blancos’ eternal rivals in Spain and was also linked with a move to City.

    “Real Madrid is the best team in the world, they have won the Champions League.

    “If you go by results, Real Madrid is the best.

    “If you go by level of the game, I think Manchester City are the best,” Messi said.

    Real Madrid fullback Dani Carvajal has welcomed Kylian Mbappe’s arrival.

    The star striker will leave PSG for Real next month, as was confirmed this week.

    Carvajal told Vanitis: “We are very happy with the hiring of Mbappé. We will welcome him with great enthusiasm, he is a great player.

    “What seemed like a foregone conclusion… We are very happy, he will help us. We are very happy, yes, we are.”

    Finally, when asked if he has recovered from the celebrations for the Decimoquinta, he replied: “Don’t believe it, I still need hours of sleep!”

    Former PSG star Jerome Rothen has hit out at new Real Madrid attacker Kylian Mbappe.

    Mbappe’s move from PSG to the Spanish giants was confirmed this week.

    Rothen told RMC: “He betrayed us all season.

    “Five months have passed since Kylian showed that he didn’t want to make an effort to stay at PSG. It’s not a problem of the coach, the managers, the president, the fans… It’s just a problem of respect.

    “When you put yourself in the category of the best players in the world, you have to have the right attitude. You have to fight for your teammates, for your country, for your club.

    Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane admits he misses coaching.

    It’s coming up to three years since Zidane left the Real job.

    “Now I’m busy in another way,” he told Carre. “Sometimes I miss everyday life. Even if everyday life as a coach is ‘hot’.

    “I took a break which has become a great break. I miss it from time to time.”

    Zidane also spoke at length about his relationship with Marseille.

    “For me, Marseille is the capital of football and also of sport. La Castellane? Many athletes have come from this neighbourhood. That’s why we I would like to see more Marseille players at OM, coming from the neighbourhoods.”

    On the regret of never having worn the OM shirt, he said: “It happened like this, it wasn’t me, but Marseille and the club are always in my heart. From the age of 11 to 14 I was at the Vélodrome stadium. I went to the virage north and I would get under the board. In any case, no one will take it away from me.”
