Sani enjoined members of the public to disregard the publication, as it had no plan to recruit new staff.

“The Council hereby strongly states that the publication is the product of the imagination of fraudsters who are out to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

Cross River recruits 4000 local government staff

The Cross River Local Government Service Commission says no fewer than 4000 staff have been recruited for the 18 council areas of the state in the last one year.

Chairman of the commission, Mr Darlington Eyo, disclosed this during an interactive session with newsmen in Calabar on Tuesday.

Eyo noted that the commission inherited a depleted local government staff of about 9000, adding that with the 4000 personnel already recruited, efforts were still ongoing to fill the remaining vacant spaces.

He said that the mass recruitment approved by Gov. Bassey Otu under his “People First Mantra” was the first in 37 years.

“The councils we met had depleted workforce so the governor deemed it necessary that we fill the vacancies and also ensured a sustainable means of livelihood for the people.

“In actual fact, we were supposed to meet about 12,000 or 13,000 staff, but what we met was about 3000, so we approached the governor on this, and he saw reason for the recruitment of more hands to fulfill the obligations of the local government areas.

“We have systematically carried out this and paying over 3000 of them already that have met the requirement while we strategise on more recruitment processes.

“Yes, the process is ongoing as it is not possible to fill all the 9000 vacant spaces at one once,” he stressed.
On the allegations of buying employment, the chairman said there was nothing of such to the best of his knowledge.

He said the commission had operated an open process in such a way that a son or daughter of nobody has been gainfully employed.

According to him, I won’t rule out the fact that there could be some persons outside trying to undermine the commission or act as the commission’s agent.

“The good thing however is that anyone who patronise such a person will be fished out as we have a system in place that will expose them.”

Eyo added that the local government service commission uncovered 800 ghost workers during the audit of the staff payroll.

“This is the figure that we have expunged from the local governments payroll, and the audit is ongoing because we can’t continue to have a huge wage bill when the number of staff remains low.

“In all of these achievements, including the various training programmes for staff of the council areas the governor provided the needed environment for us to diligently carry out our mandates,” said.

FRSC warns Nigerians against recruitment scams

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned the public to be cautious of fraudulent recruitment schemes being carried out by scammers, some of whom impersonate FRSC personnel.

This is contained in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM), Olusegun Ogungbemide.

Ogungbemide expressed concern over the increasing activities of fraudsters who deceived and extorted unsuspecting Nigerians with false promises of job offers within the Corps.

He revealed that those scammers even go as far as issuing fake call-up letters to FRSC training schools and the FRSC Academy in a bid to mislead job seekers and collect money from them.

The CPEO emphasised that FRSC’s recruitment process was strictly transparent, merit-based, and officially communicated only through national newspapers, TV stations, and the Corps’ verified platforms.

“At no point has the Corps authorised any personnel or representative to request money or any form of gratification from applicants for employment,” he stated.

Ogungbemide, therefore, urged Nigerians to disregard any suspicious recruitment offers and report such activities to the nearest FRSC Command, relevant law enforcement agencies, or through official FRSC channels.

The public was further advised to remain vigilant and confirm all recruitment-related information via official FRSC sources. These include the Corps’ website at www.frsc.gov.ng.

Heavy trouble looming as the Police Service Commission (PSC) has declared that the Nigerian police has no authority to place advert for recruitment.

READ latest update on police recruitment exercise by FG (Here)

The Federal Government has shared a new update on the 2025 police recruitment exercise, giving Nigerians a clearer picture of what to expect.

According to the Police Service Commission (PSC), the upcoming recruitment process for Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) and Inspectors will be guided by strict rules to ensure fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all qualified applicants across the country.

During a recent visit to the Federal Character Commission (FCC) in Abuja, the PSC made it clear that it won’t tolerate any form of favoritism or shady dealings. This latest development comes after the Nigerian Senate gave the green light for the recruitment of 30,000 new police officers.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired Deputy Inspector General Hashimu Salihu Argungu, didn’t mince words. He warned that anyone caught trying to manipulate or hijack the recruitment process will face strict sanctions. According to him, the Commission is fully committed to a recruitment exercise that reflects merit, discipline, and national unity.

“There will be no room for backdoor entries, favoritism, or shady practices. We’re putting measures in place to ensure the process is clean, credible, and fair to all Nigerians,” he said.

Argungu also emphasized that although no specific date has been announced yet for the recruitment to kick off, the Commission is already working closely with key stakeholders like the FCC to ensure that due process is followed from start to finish.

In response, the Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Kayode Oladele, described the PSC Chairman’s visit as a welcome development and a solid step towards strengthening inter-agency cooperation.

He noted that partnering with the PSC to ensure fairness in the recruitment process aligns with the FCC’s core mandate of promoting equity and balanced representation in public institutions.

This collaboration is not just about filling vacancies. It’s about restoring public trust, deepening national unity, and building a police force that reflects the true diversity of Nigeria,” Oladele said.

He stressed that a diverse police force would help reinforce confidence in law enforcement and reduce public skepticism, especially in marginalized communities.

Oladele assured the PSC of the Commission’s full support in ensuring that the upcoming recruitment strictly follows the federal character principle. He added that transparency and fairness are non-negotiable if Nigeria must build institutions that truly serve its people.

As Nigerians await the release of the official recruitment date, both the PSC and FCC have assured the public that no room will be given to backdoor arrangements or favoritism. The message is clear: only qualified candidates who meet the criteria will make it through.

Governor Sule approves employment of 6,200 teachers

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has approved the employment of 6,200 teachers for public Primary and Secondary Schools.

Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor on Public Affairs, Mr Peter Ahemba, disclosed this at a bimonthly press conference on Tuesday in Lafia.

The SSA explained that out of the approved numbers, 4,700 would be employed for primary schools, while 1,500 would be employed for secondary schools across the 13 local government areas (LGAs) and 18 administrative areas of the state.

Ahemba explained that the employment was to fill the vacancies created due to retirement, deaths, transfer of service as well as increased school enrollment.

He further explained that the Musa Danazumi-led leadership of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SEBEB) began the process for the employment of teachers in primary schools, but could not complete it before their tenure ended.

“The governor had directed the new SUBEB Chairman, Kassim Mohammed-Kassim to complete the process and release the names of those employed.

“As we speak, the list of qualified candidates from all 13 LGAs of the state was submitted to the Ministry of Education for input.

“Very soon, the list will be out and the successful candidates will be deployed to schools that are lacking manpower at the moment,” the governor’s aide added.

The SSA further explained that the 1,500 approved for secondary schools were to replace the over 3,000 that were illegally employed by the dismissed management of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

He noted that the governor had since sacked the management of TSC involved in the illegal employment inline with its zero tolerance for corruption and mismanagement of public trust.

“The Nasarawa State House of Assembly is currently investigating the dismissed management of the commission to unravel what transpired and the level of involvement of each of them for onward actions,” he added.

He said that the new management of TSC had already began the process for the employment of the 1,500 teachers to secondary schools.

“Only 719 candidates were successful out the 4, 243 who applied and sat for the Computer based test to be employed to secondary schools,” he added.

The governor’s aide further said that the government had awarded contracts for the massive construction and renovation of primary and junior secondary schools in the state.

He emphasised that the government was determined to provide conducive learning environments for teachers and students in line with its efforts to improve the standard of education at all levels.

Ahemba also used the medium to appreciate the residents of the state for the rousing welcome they accorded President Bola Tinubu during his one-day official visit to the state on June 25.
