Jackson has not apologised to Chelsea teammates after red card

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson is reportedly yet to apologise to his teammates following his red card in their 2-0 Premier League defeat to Newcastle on Sunday.

Chelsea remain in the Champions League qualification spots despite their 2-0 defeat to rivals Newcastle over the weekend.

Jackson, 23, has been largely blamed for the result after he received a straight red card for elbowing Sven Botman after a lengthy VAR intervention.

According to the Sun, he is yet to apologise to his teammates as he believes there is no need to feel guilty for his actions.

Instead, he is determined to make it up to them by scoring in the Europa Conference League final, in which Chelsea will face Real Betis.

The Senegal international will now miss Chelsea’s final two games against Man United and Nottingham Forest due to suspension.

  • Arsenal defeat Wolves after Myles Lewis-Skelly’s controversial red card

Arsenal defeat Wolves after Myles Lewis-Skelly’s controversial red card

Riccardo Calafiori fired 10-man Arsenal to a Premier League win at Wolves after Myles Lewis-Skelly’s controversial red card.

Referee Michael Oliver’s first-half decision to send off Lewis-Skelly – after he fouled Matt Doherty 30 yards from the hosts’ goal to stop the Wolves defender breaking from a corner – stunned the Gunners.

At 18 years and 121 days, Lewis-Skelly became the third youngest player to be sent off in the Premier League, behind Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen.

Joao Gomes’ dismissal, for a second yellow card after a foul on Jurrien Timber with 20 minutes left, was more routine but it will be no more than a footnote.

Lewis-Skelly’s red could have had an immediate impact on the title race if the second-placed Gunners dropped points to fall further behind leaders Liverpool, who beat Ipswich 4-1.

But they showed resilience to snatch the victory thanks to Calafiori, on as a substitute following a half-time reshuffle.

The defender’s fine low finish with 16 minutes left kept the Gunners six points adrift of Liverpool.

Myles-Skelly’s 43rd-minute red ignited what had been a forgettable game, with the only early talking point Wolves fans’ chants against owners Fosun, calling on them to “back the team or sell the club” with their side 17th in the table.

Pablo Sarabia volleyed over and Kai Havertz nodded wide before he was denied by Jose Sa.

Havertz again went close after the break with Matheus Cunha threatening twice before Calafiori pounced.

Racism: Spanish FA withdraws Vinicius red card, bans Valencia

After taking a critical look at what transpired in the match Valencia versus Real Madrid at Mestalla on Sunday, the Spanish FA has withdrawn the red card issued to Vinicius Jr.

The FA  also slammed Valencia with a partial stadium ban following the racist abuse directed at the Real Madrid star during the game.

Recall that Vinicius was targeted with vile chants and gestures by home fans at the Mestalla and the 22-year-old attempted to draw the referee’s attention to the crowd and was later red-carded in the 97th minute of action following a heated argument with Valencia striker Hugo Duro.

The Spanish FA [RFEF] announced on Tuesday that the red card has been rescinded.

The Mestalla’s Mario Kempes Stand will also be closed for five matches. The club will also pay a fine of €45,000.

“The Committee has sanctioned Valencia CF with the partial closure of the Mestalla stadium for five matches, more specifically of the south stand Mario Kempes, following the events which took place during the Primera División National League Championship match between the home team and Real Madrid CF.

“In addition, a financial penalty of 45,000 euros was imposed on Valencia,” the FA statement said.

  • How Arsenal can improve shocking red-card record – Arteta

How Arsenal can improve shocking red-card record – Arteta

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has explained how the club can improve its disciplinary record.

The Gunners have received more red cards than any team in the Premier League this season.

The past five matches have seen three Gunners’ players receive their marching orders, which has hindered the team from achieving their season objectives of winning a trophy and finishing in the top four of the Premier League.

“We played three games out of five with 10 men, and if that’s one of the things in the last 17 games that we continue to do, our chances to be where we are going to be really low,” Arteta said, per the club website.

“We have to play with 11 players on the pitch. We need most of the players available and fit as much as possible. We need to maintain the togetherness. We have to keep improving our game model and we have to go game by game.

“To do that we have to be super focused and we have to perform on the day and the rest will come because we are in the position where it’s possible and we can achieve it but only if everybody has that mindset.”

“I think there are a few factors,” he added on how he can improve the players’ discipline.

“First of all how we raise them throughout our academy, the type of characters that we build and that’s the best way to do it in that pathway.

“Then, in recruitment, the type of characters and personalities that you are signing and making sure that they are the right ones to fit within your culture and then the other one is living by example, so when you see certain behaviours daily, they become habits and those habits are easy to follow and once they’re integrated, I don’t think anybody can escape from that and try to do something different, because it gets exposed.”

  • I don’t want Ronaldo to get red card – Klopp

I don’t want Ronaldo to get red card – Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has questioned how Crisitiano Ronaldo escaped a red card during victory at Manchester United.

After the 5-0 win, Klopp initially thought Ronaldo’s challenge on Curtis Jones at the end of the first half warranted a red card but had been persuaded otherwise by people who had seen television replays.

The United forward sent the midfielder tumbling to the floor with a wild swing of his right leg and then, with his frustration boiling over, he took a couple of swings at the ball which was positioned against his grounded opponent’s midriff.

“I saw it, of course, and it looked like a red card but I got told he hits the ball or didn’t hear the whistle,” Klopp said.

“I don’t want Cristiano getting a red card. For me it looked like (a red) but I got told it was not and that’s fine.”

  • West Ham midfielder wins appeal against red card

West Ham midfielder wins appeal against red card

West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek will be available to play in Tuesday’s FA Cup fifth-round tie at Manchester United.

This came after he won his appeal against a red card he picked up against Fulham at the weekend.

Soucek was sent off in time added on for an incident involving Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, after VAR requested the referee look at it on the video screen.

The red card was overturned by an independent regulatory commission.

Arsenal defender David Luiz furious with red card

David Luiz has broken his silence after being sent off against Wolves on Tuesday.

The Brazilian was given his marching orders after incidentally clipping Willian Jose inside the box.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was infuriated with the decision when speaking after the game.

And Luiz seemingly agreed with his manager in a post on Instagram.

“UNBELIEVABLE!!!!” the defender fumed in the post, along with a number of angry face emojis.

  • Copa America: Messi sent off before halftime against Chile

Lionel Messi was sent off before halftime in a bad-tempered third-place playoff between Argentina and Chile in the Copa America on Saturday.

The match was 34 minutes old when Chilean captain Gary Medel shepherded out a ball near his own goal. Messi challenged him from behind and Medel reacted angrily, pushing the Argentine and raising his hands.

The Paraguayan referee showed Medel a red card and although Messi did not react he was also sent off, prompting boos in Sao Paulo’s Corinthians arena.

It was only the second red card of Messi’s career, the first also coming while playing for Argentina on his debut against Hungary in 2005.

The match was continuing, with Argentina going 2-0 up thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero and Paulo Dybala.

Hosts Brazil face Peru in the final on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro.

  • EPL: How referee Mike Dean reached 100 red cards

EPL: How referee Mike Dean reached 100 red cards

Mike Dean, the top flight’s current longest-serving referee, brandished the 100th red card of his Premier League career on Tuesday night as he dismissed Ashley Young during Manchester United’s defeat at Wolves.

The milestone came up when Dean showed Young a second yellow card midway through the second half for a foul on Diogo Jota.

The Wirral-born official has been taking charge of Premier League games since September 2000, when he refereed Leicester City’s home clash with Southampton.

It took Dean until April 14 of his debut campaign to issue his first red when dismissing Newcastle’s Nolberto Solano for a handball on the line in their match with Ipswich.

In the intervening period, the 50-year-old has reached into his back pocket for a red on average every 4.9 matches, far more frequently than any of his current colleagues.

PL teams given most reds by Dean

Premier League team Sent off by Dean
    Chelsea 9
    Man City 9
    Newcastle 7
    Arsenal 6
    Stoke 5
    Tottenham 5
    West Brom 5
This campaign has been no different, with Dean having red carded 10 players in just 24 games – prior to Young, the most recent of which was Huddersfield’s Christopher Schindler against Burnley – four more than any other top-flight referee.
However, Dean’s career – the highlight of which was refereeing the 2008 FA Cup final between Portsmouth and Cardiff City at Wembley Stadium – has not been without a controversy or two.
    Most Premier League red cards

    Mike Dean: 100 (477 games)

    Phil Dowd: 67 (308 games)

    Mike Riley: 66 (283 games)

    Graham Poll: 63 (329 games)

    Martin Atkinson: 58 (373 games)

This season followed suit, with the official caught mouthing “off you pop” after sending off Brighton defender Lewis Dunk at the Vitality in December.

In addition, it later turned out the player should not have been dismissed in the first place!
