Nigeria at 62: “Don’t let anybody deceive you, we are in a war situation”- Adeboye

General overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has described Nigeria’s present situation as war, saying “we are in a war situation”.

Adeboye spoke on Sunday during his church’s monthly thanksgiving service, which also commemorates Nigeria’s 62nd independence anniversary.

The cleric, whose sermon was titled ‘Perfect peace in the land’, said peace is the absence of war and storm, adding that perfect peace refers to one which is permanent.

According to him, times have gone by when traditional rulers were accorded respect, adding that currently their palaces are invaded and they are kidnapped.

He said, “A whole nation can be in a storm. If a governor cannot go to his farm and feel safe, despite the security guards, He has to thank God that he returned safely, despite the bodyguard. When we talk about security, the governor should be secure. When a governor alters such a statement, then you know the situation we are in.

“As young as I am, I remember a time when the king was coming. Unless you are one of the very special people, you have to move out of the way. But things are different now. Kidnappers can go to the palace and kidnap the king. Don’t let anybody deceive you, we are in a war situation.”

Adeboye also urged the people to cease criticising their leaders, maintaining that residents should instead pray for them.

He lamented that people have opted for condemnation instead of seeking solutions through intercession.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Adeboye joined the Redemed Christian Church of God in 1973 and served as an interpreter before he was ordained a pastor in the church by Pa. Josiah Akindayomi in 1975.

He became General Overseer of the church in 1981. For three years, he filled the role part-time at Unilorin before giving up his university position to preach full-time.

The church which was not well known before Adeboye became the General Overseer, has branches in about 198[1] nations as of (March 2017), including more than 14,000,000 worshipers in Nigeria[14].Adeboye has stated that he aims to put a church within five minutes walking distance in developing cities and five minutes driving distance in developed cities.[12]

Adeboye is considered a preacher of the prosperity gospel,[15] a claim he does not deny, saying that “Pentecostals have such an impact because they talk of the here and now, not just the by and by… while we have to worry about heaven, there are some things God could do for us in the here and now.”[16]

Following new legislation that placed limits on non-profit leadership to 20 years of service and less than 70 years of age,[17] Pastor Adeboye resigned as General Overseer in 2017 (still the general overseer up till date).

He celebrated his 80th birthday in 2022, Adeboye’s foundation donated eight dialysis machines to Wuse District Hospital, together with a reverse osmosis medical water purification system and an electrical generator.[

General Overseer of RCCG talks about text message that stopped him from mourning son’s death

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has narrated how a text message made him not to mourn the death of his son, Dare, last May.

He said the text message was sent by one of his spiritual daughters and it lifted him from “deep sorrow” caused by Dare’s death.

The octogenarian preacher said the text message turned the tide following the death of his 42-year-old son in 2021, adding that God loves him despite the loss of his son.

Adeboye spoke at the international headquarters of the church along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway during the April 2022 Holy Ghost Service of the church.

Dare, the third child of 80-year-old Adeboye, died on May 4, 2021 in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, where he was based with his family. Married to Temiloluwa, the deceased was the Assistant Pastor in charge of Region (Youth) 35 before his death and father to three daughters.

Speaking on the theme, ‘Signs and Wonders’, with Bible text from Isaiah 8:18 on Friday night, the elder Adeboye said children are proofs that God is a Miracle Worker, a Covenant-Keeper, a Burden-Bearer and the Defence of the Defenceless.

According to him, God is a Carrier, who carries burden, sorrow and problems provided one has the disposition of a child.

Adeboye said, “When I lost my son last year (2021), and I was deeply in sorrow, I got a text (message) from one of my (spiritual) daughters that suddenly turned the tide. What she wrote was simply this: Daddy, let God carry you.”

“I’ve always said it and when I said it, people argue with me. God loves me more than anybody else. Do you agree? I know you won’t agree. When I tell you that God loves me more than anybody else; what do you reply?” he asked thousands of worshippers at the programme who also replied individually that God loves them more than any other person.’’

RCCG raises alarm, petitions Senate over alleged N151m fraud on road project completed by church

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has raised an alarm over the payment of N151m as reimbursement to a construction firm, Cartil Construction Nigeria Limited for a road project executed by the church as a corporate social responsibility project.

According to reports, the Nigerian Senate has commence probe of the Federal Ministry of Works for paying the aforesaid construction firm N151m as reimbursement for a road project executed by the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

In a petition submitted by the senior official of the RCCG, Pastor Niyi Adebanjo, on behalf of the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, it was alleged that the ministry officials paid N151m to the management of Cartil Construction Nigeria Limited as part payment for the road project awarded to it but abandoned.

Adebanjo submitted the petition and the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, referred the document to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.

The petition was presented by the Chairman of the committee, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, on behalf of Lawan, on February 9.

The RCCG, in the petition, alleged that the construction firm claimed the sum of N151,508,901.22 as reimbursement for the rehabilitation of the Ife-Ifewara Road, Osun State, which the church constructed.

The petition partly reads, “The rehabilitation of the road was awarded as part of the Church’s corporate social responsibility and paid for by Pastor Enoch Adeboye in the sum of N188,440,342 hence the claim by Cartil Construction Nigeria Limited was illegal and unjust.

“The church hereby requests the Senate to look into the matter and, among others, urge the firm to refund the money it collected to the coffers of the Federal Government.”

Speaking before the panel under oath, on Wednesday, Adebanjo said, “Pastor E.A. Adeboye employed the services of the Construction Department of the RCCG to execute the project between August 26, 2016 and 2019 and the total cost was over N188m.

“The project started from Eruwa junction in Ife and Garage Olode in Ifewara, which is 8.2km. We have details of all the seven companies that supplied us with the materials used to execute the project. They delivered all the materials on site. We have supplied details of the projects to the committee.

“While the project was ongoing, authorities of the Nigerian Correctional Service pleaded with Pastor Adeboye to extend the construction to their premises, which was done.

“There are people at Ife and Ifewara who can testify to the fact that Pastor Adeboye constructed the road because he visited the palace, where the Oba appreciated him for constructing the road.

“We were therefore shocked when we found out that somebody was trying to defraud the Nigerian state by claiming money for a project he never executed.”
