    NIMC restores NIN Verification Service

    The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) on Saturday said its portal that recently went down has been restored.

    In a statement signed by the Commission’s Head Corporate Communications, Mr. Kayode Adegoke, NIMC explained that the portal went down a few days ago due to maintenance by one of its network service providers and has been fully restored.

    “Consequently, customers and service providers can now take full advantage of the two verification platforms- Takenization and NVS, which are both effective for verification and authentication of the National Identification Number,” the statement asserted.

    The Commission extended its profound gratitude to the general public and partners for their support during the period that the NVS went down and use of the Takenization platform.

    The Commission will continue to come up with innovative identity management solutions to enhance its capacity to deliver on its mandate,” the statement added.

    JAMB releases new date for 2022/23 UTME, DE registration

    mThe Joint Admission and Matriculations Board, JAMB says the 2022/23 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination( UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) Registrations will now commence Saturday, February 19th, and end on the 26th of March 2022.

    The examination board had earlier scheduled the exercise for February 12, 2022.

    The postponement, JAMB said, is to enable “more fine-tuning of the upgraded and user-friendly procedures for candidates’ registration.

    It said the fine-tuning process will be concluded within the one-week extension period given before the commencement of registration.

    Fabian Benjamin, of Public Affairs and Protocol, JAMB, made the announcement. He said the development was also aimed at accommodating feedback from candidates and other stakeholders.

    “The Board wishes the general public to note that the Board is ever-ready to provide world-class services to Nigerians.

    “Further to the above, the new and improved procedures for the 2022/23 UTME Registration would be made available on the Board’s website. It will be in the weekly bulletin as well as other media outlets on 14th February, 2022.

    “The candidates are urged to follow keenly the procedures for registration as would be announced by the Board”.

    NAFDAC bans registration of alcoholic drinks in sachets, bottles

    The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has banned the registration of alcohol in sachets and glass bottles below 200ml.

    This is contained in a statement signed by the Director General of NAFDAC, Prof Moji Adeyeye in Abuja.

    “The registration of new alcoholic drinks in sachets and small volume PET and Glass bottles above 30 per cent ABV (alcohol by volume) has been banned by NAFDAC.

    “The move followed the recommendation of a high powered committee of the Federal Ministry of Health and NAFDAC on one hand, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

    “This move is also as a result of the support from various Industry represented by Association of Food, Beverages and Tobacco Employers (AFBTE), Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria (DIBAN) in December, 2018.

    “The agency will ensure that validity of renewal of already registered alcoholic products in the affected category will not exceed year 2024,” she said.

    The Director-General explained that Manufacturers of low volume alcohol beverages (200ml) with satisfactory Laboratory reports, which were already submitted to

    NAFDAC for registration before this decision, have been directed to reformulate their products at stipulated standard.

    According to her, DIBAN was also given a matching order to embark on intensive nation-wide sensitization campaigns against underage consumption of alcohol by adolescents below the age of 18 years in the bid to stem the tide of alcohol abuse in the country.

    She explained that the producers of alcohol in sachets and small volume agreed to reduce production by 50% with effect from January 31st 2022 while ensuring the products are completely phased out in the country by Jan. 31, 2024.

    “Even as we grapple with the containment of COVID-19 pandemic, NAFDAC is resolutely committed to the strict implementation of the regulations and regulatory measures towards safeguarding the Health of Nigerians.

    “This move is particularly targeted to the vulnerable youths against the dangers of reckless consumption of Alcohol, ” Adeyeye said.

    Prospective corps members must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination before registration in camp – NYSC

    The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says prospective members will be required to show evidence of vaccination before they will be allowed into the camp for registration from the next orientation exercise in 2022.

    NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, announced this on Monday in his nationwide virtual address to the 2021 Batch “C” Stream Two corps members and camp officials.

    Amid the reported cases of the new COVID-19 variant – omicron, he stated that the NYSC would not let down its guard on strict adherence to the protocols put in place to curb the spread of the virus.

    “We want to ensure that we adhere strictly to the non-pharmaceutical protocols of COVID-19,” Ibrahim was quoted as saying in a statement by a spokesman for the corps, Emeka Mgbemena.

    He advised corps members that were about to complete their orientation course to add value to themselves by acquiring skills that would make them business owners, instead of seeking the scarcely available salaried jobs.

    The NYSC-DG noted that the scheme had partnered several institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and others to provide soft loans to corps members with good business proposals.

    He urged them to continue with the post-camp training of the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme they started during the orientation course.

    The brigadier-general gave an assurance that efforts were ongoing to establish NYSC Trust Fund to make more funds available for willing corps member to start their businesses as they exit service.

    “NYSC is a platform for those that are very serious. Please take the skill acquisition seriously and ensure you register for the post-camp training. I can assure you that our partners are ready to support us to ensure that the start-up capitals are made available to corps members,” he said.

    lbrahim also warned corps members against night and unauthorised journeys, but break any trip extending beyond 6pm and pass the night in a safe place.

    “Don’t endanger your security and for those going on relocation, please ensure that you don’t travel at night,” he stated. “Don’t board vehicles by the roadside, but go to designated motor parks to do so.

    “Avoid free rides; we have partnered various transport unions, including the Federal Road Safety Corps to ensure that only road-worthy vehicles are provided for corps members while travelling.

    “We have NYSC corps lodges, secretariats, and army barracks; find out where they are and make sure you pass the night there for journeys that will take you beyond six (pm) to get to your destination.”

    CVR: Fresh registration hits 4.2m

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said that fresh registration in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) has hit 4,297,494.

    The commission disclosed this in the second quarter, week seven, weekly update released by the commission on Monday in Abuja.

    The commission said that as at 7am on Monday, Nov. 22, some 1,856,771 persons have completed their online and physical registration.

    According to statistics provided by the commission, 1,856,771 persons who completed their registration, include 941,098 males, 915,673 females.

    It also added that 741,183 persons completed their registration online, while 1,115,588 completed it through physical registration.

    APGA begins registration of members in Ebonyi State

    The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ebonyi chapter has commenced registration of members throughout the state.

    Mr Ricky Okorouka, the state chairman of the party announced this on Wednesday in Abakaliki while briefing newsmen on the outcome of its meeting held in Abakaliki.

    Okorouka said that the decision to commence the registration became imperative in view of calls by members of the public, including prominent politicians in the state to join the party.

    “Our party has already started receiving calls from some politicians in the state, who want to join the party.

    “In fact, one of the major reasons we met was to flag – off our massive membership registration exercise.

    “We decided to start our membership registration following the requests by members of the public to officially join the party.

    “So many came to me, I told them to meet with their various local government chairmen, so that they will be able to identify their various wards, where they can register,” he said.

    Okorouka noted that the recent landslide victory by the party in the Anambra governorship election was an indication of the acceptance of the party in the South-East zone.

    “We are optimistic that APGA will take over the mantle of leadership in the state in the 2023 governorship election.

    “APGA has come to stay in Ebonyi and APGA is rising. The time for APGA to take over Ebonyi has come, that is why we have begun to mobilise for membership.

    “We have met men of timber and caliber in the state who told us they want to contest some positions in our party.

    “With the kind of persons approaching us, we believe that the party has a lot of chances in 2023, and we will take over the state,” he said.

    According to Okorouka, the party congratulates, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, governor-elect over his victory during the Nov. 6 Anambra governorship poll.

    The party chairman added that the victory had boosted the morale of members of the party in Ebonyi.

    “The victory of the APGA flag bearer in the Anambra gubernatorial election is a ‘tonic’ and morale booster to us in Ebonyi.

    “The victory will also increase the tempo of activities of the party in the state,” he said.

    Okorouka said the party also congratulated Chief Victor Oye, its national leader and His Excellency, Chief Willy Obiano, governor of Anambra for leading the party to victory in the Anambra election.

    He urged party faithful to continue keeping faith with the party.

    Okorouka also praised the executives and other APGA stalwarts for keeping faith with the party despite the challenges in the past.

    APC warns against registration by proxy

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo has cautioned against the registration and revalidation of membership through unauthorised processes.

    The warning is contained in a statement issued in Owerri on Wednesday by the Director-General, APC Media Centre, Mr Cajetan Duke.

    Duke said the APC membership revalidation and registration exercise extended in Imo and three other states by the party’s Caretaker/ Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) was not to be done by proxy.

    “The attention of the party has been drawn to cases where certain persons have tried albeit unfruitfully to compromise the exercise by proxy.

    “In line with guidelines, as formulated by the CECPC, there is no room for revalidation or registration by proxy.

    “Every interested person must physically present himself or herself before the officials with all the requisite particulars for revalidation or registration.

    “We call on all interested persons to take advantage of the extension to genuinely conclude their revalidation and or registration formalities,” he said.

    BREAKING: JAMB officially shifts 2021 UTME, extends registration

    The 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has been moved from June 19 to July 3, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Is-haq Oloyede has announced.

    He made the announcement at an ongoing press conference on Saturday in Abuja.

    The examination was slated to hold between June 5 and 19.

    The registrar also announced an extension registration for the examination by two weeks.

    The registration exercise will now end on May 29.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that the registrar had on Friday hinted that the 2021 UTME may be postponed.

    President Muhammadu Buhari has departed Abuja for Daura, Katsina State, his home town, to participate in the national membership registration and revalidation exercise of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    The president left Abuja after performing the weekly Juma’at prayer at the Aso Rock Mosque.

    The president had earlier hosted Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau, who later informed State House correspondents that he was in villa to brief President Buhari on issues pertaining security, New Nigeria Newspapers and the Jos Main Market.

    While in Daura, President Buhari would on Saturday at Sarkin Yara Ward, Daura, participate in the APC’s nationwide membership registration and revalidation exercise at about 12.00 noon.

    Prof. Ussifu Medaner, APC Director of Organisation had on Thursday in Abuja said there would be no registration by proxy in the membership registration and revalidation exercise.

    He said the exercise was important and most unique element in preparation for future elections.

    Medaner stressed that members must be physically present for the exercise, emphasising that there would be no room for membership registration and revalidation by proxy.

    “That is why we have paid attention to cultural peculiarities and possible restrictions in some parts of the country,”he added.

    President Buhari is expected back in Abuja on Tuesday.

    APC refutes rumored postponement of membership registration

    Membership registration of the All Progressives Congress scheduled to commence on Monday January 25 nationwide will go on as planned.

    This was disclosed in a three-paragraph disclaimer by Secretary of the Caretaker/National Convention Planning Committee of the party, Senator John Akpanudoedehe on Saturday night.

    He described as fake and mischievous an earlier statement which quoted him as saying that the exercise had been put off.

    The statement read, “A “NOTICE” in circulation and ascribed to the APC CECPC National Secretary, Sen. John J. Akpan Udoedeghe Ph.D. is fake and highly mischievous.

    “The APC membership registration, revalidation and update exercise remains on course and commences as scheduled in the attached timetable.

    “As earlier announced, the CECPC has approved the constitution of State Membership Registration Committees for the Party’s nationwide membership registration, revalidation and update exercise. This will be followed by a train-the-trainer workshop
