No NIN, No Registration Of Vehicles – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says the issuance of the National Identification Number (NIN) is compulsory for all categories of vehicle registration.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, said the move, which is in total compliance with the presidential directives, would commence from the second quarter of the year.

“Beginning from the second quarter of this year (2021), if you want to register your vehicle, it is going to be compulsory for you to provide your NIN. This is part of the security checks,” FRSC Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, was quoted as saying.

“So once you provide your NIN, it makes the matter easier and helps the government in national planning, critical decision making and also enhance adequate Intelligence gathering for the security of lives and properties.”

The FRSC had mandated all applicants of the National Driver’s Licence in the country to present their National Identification Number before they could be captured for any class of the licences produced by the FRSC.

JUST IN: Lagos commences registration of worship, social centres for full reopening

The Lagos State Safety Commission has opened a register for religious and social centres in its domain. The registration of such centres is in preparation for their full reopening.

It is also in furtherance of the Register-to-Open initiative of the state government, as directed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the commission explained in a statement by Lanre Mojola, its Director-General

The statement reads: “Further to the directive of Mr Governor with respect to the Register-to-Open initiative of Lagos State government, we hereby confirm that all religious and social centers (social clubs, event centres, restaurants, bars, night clubs, spas, cinemas and gyms) within the state can commence the registration process on the designated portal www.lasgsafetyreg.com immediately.”

Giving an update relating to the COVID-19 pandemic in the state on May 17, the governor said the government was considering full reopening of the economy, including critical sectors like tourism and hospitality, sporting, event centres, cinemas, entertainment, and religious gatherings.

He, however, said businesses in these sectors would have to undergo re-registration before reopening and that the Lagos State Safety Commission and Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) would be visiting offices and business premises to assess the level of their readiness to resume operation.

Sanyo-Olu said: “We are at a level where we are reviewing the other arms of the economy. In the coming days, we will be starting what we call Register-to-Open, which means all players in the restaurant business, event centres, entertainment, malls and cinemas will go through a form of re-registration and space management.

“There is a regulation that will be introduced to supervise this move. We will be coming to their facilities to assess their level of readiness for a future opening.

“I don’t know when that opening will happen in the weeks ahead but we want these businesses to begin to tune themselves to the reality of COVID-19 with respect to how their work spaces need to look like.”

  • JAMB reopens registration portal, announces new date for conduct of 2019 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has rescheduled the conduct of 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation examination (UTME) to 11th April.

The board also fixed 1st April for the conduct of its mock examination earlier scheduled for Saturday, 23rd March.

JAMB’s Head of Media, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, in Abuja.

The statement directed candidates to begin the printing of their UTME notification slips from 2nd April.

It stated that candidates can print the slips in any part of the country.

According to the statement, all candidates who registered for UTME are to ensure that they print their examination notification slips before the day of the examination, noting that no excuses would be entertained by the board.

The statement said: “The Board has scheduled to conduct the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation examination (UTME) from Thursday, 11th April, 2019.

‘’Candidates are to begin the printing of the 2019 UTME notification slips from Tuesday, 2nd April, 2019. Candidates can print their slips anywhere.

All candidates who registered for the 2019 UTME are to ensure that they print their examination notification slips before the day of the examination as no excuses would be entertained.

‘’The public should note that the Board would not reschedule examination for any candidate.”

The board, in the statement, explained the rescheduling of the mock examination to April was due to certain circumstances beyond its control.

It urged candidates who had indicated interest in taking part in the mock examination during registration and have printed their mock examination notification slips not to reprint another one.

All the details on the slips remain the same except the examination date which is now 1st April, 2019,” the statement said.

The board has also reopened its registration portal to 41,063 candidates who have created their profiles and procured either the UTME or DE ePINS till Friday 15th, March.

The statement added that the portal will be closed by 12midnight of same day.

Nigerians would recall that the Board had closed the sale of its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry application document on Thursday, 21st February, 2019.

‘’At the close of the sale and subsequently close of registration portal, it was discovered that 41,063 candidates created profile and procured either UTME or DE ePINS but were unable to complete their registration formalities after initiating the process.

In view of this consideration the Board has opened the registration portal effective from Wednesday 13th March, 2019 for all candidates with either UTME or DE ePINS to complete their registration formalities.

The portal would be closed on Friday, 15th March, 2019 by 12midnight.

This opportunity is for only candidates who had created profile and procured UTME or DE ePINS before the close of registration portal as the sale of ePINS had since been closed.

Please endeavor to register before Friday midnight if you are holding any of the ePINS (UTME/DE),” the statement added.

  • National Identity Number registration is free – NIMC

Mr Loveday Ogbonna, Head, Corporate Communications, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), says registration for the National Identity Number (NIN) is free.

Ogbonna, who made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Abuja, said that the commission has never charge anyone for NIN registration.

Some residents in Kubwa, Abuja, had claimed that they were made to pay N200 for logistics before being registered at the ongoing NIMC registration.

But, Ogbonna said that it is not the responsibility of the enrollees to pay money to fuel generators at registration centres.

The commission absolutely condemns this, it is not right for enrollees to pay money for fuelling of the generators before being captured but people also react based on how urgent they need NIN.

Our staff would have told them that there was no light which is not under their control; however, you know that electricity is not under our purview just like the internet.

Therefore, if you come to a place that we don’t have electricity and people on their own volunteer to contribute money to fuel the generator, it is out of their own free will.

Although we don’t encourage it, because that will lead to corruption, but if the people on their own decide to contribute we cannot stop them.

All these issues are due to paucity of the fund if there is enough money available for the exercise or steady power supply all these things will not happen,’’

The APC therefore urged its supporters and members to take advantage of the exercise.

  • SEC issues December deadline for registration of unlisted securities

SEC issues December deadline for registration of unlisted securities

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Friday issued Dec. 31 deadline to public companies to register all their securities with the commission to boost the NASD Over-The-Counter (OTC) market.

NASD PLC is the promoter of the OTC trading platform that eases secondary market trading of all unlisted securities in the country.

Ms Mary Uduk, SEC Acting Director-General, disclosed this at the second post Capital Market Committee (CMC) meeting in Lagos.

Uduk said all public companies in Nigeria had till the end of this year to ensure that trading in their securities was done through SEC approved platform.

Already, the commission has distributed letters to all registrars to fast track compliance with the rule and ensure that public companies abide by the stipulated deadline,” she said.

According to her, to accelerate compliance, the commission will ensure that companies filing their returns must provide evidence in form of letters to show due registration with the regulatory authority.

Uduk said the commission had identified companies with shares trading actively on the OTC platform without registering their securities with the apex regulator.

If companies are bringing returns to us, we will check if the company has registered the securities with SEC, if yes, then the company must provide evidence of SEC registration letter,” she said.

Uduk said the commission might decide to adopt other means to ensure compliance after the Dec. 31 deadline.

Speaking on measures to make the primary market more active, she said the commission would streamline the entire issuing process, in addition to the issuing cost reduction achieved in 2017.

The measure, according to Uduk is to fast-track the entire process of raising bonds and equities in the capital market and make the issuing process more attractive to investors.

We are almost through with the report.

We are working with the Nigerian Stock Exchange to ensure that any document filed with the exchange are not requested for a second filing at the SEC to fast tract the system,” she said.

Uduk noted that an impact assessment made on the cost reduction for primary equity and fixed income issues last year impacted on the market and attracted more issuers to the market.

After one year we did an impact assessment to see how the cost reduction impacted to market.

In March, 2017, the commission released a draft rule seeking reduction in cost of primary equity and fixed income issues by various trade groups in the capital market.

  • Hajj 2018: NAHCON extends deadline for registration

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria ( NAHCON) has extended the deadline for registration of intending pilgrims for Hajj 2018.

Recall that the commission had earlier fixed March 31 as the deadline for registration.

A statement signed by Fatima Mustapha on Saturday said following the town hall meetings held to sensitise intending pilgrims as well as series of appeals for extension of the registration, NAHCON has now approved the extension of registration period to the end of April, 2018.

The commission said it would use the grace to conclude further process for the announcement of 2018 Hajj fare.

The statement also said there would be no uniform Hajj fare for 2018 pilgrims.

The package shall be in accordance with the services to be provided to the pilgrims by each state,” NAHCON said.

The Hajj regulator advised intending pilgrims to take advantage of the grace period to register and pay the package of last year before the announcement of 2018 Hajj package.

Nigerian pilgrims paid a little over N1.5 million for Hajj 2017.

The commission appreciated the efforts of State Pilgrims Welfare Boards/Agencies and Commissions for mobilising the prospective intending pilgrims to register which, it said, has recorded great response by the intending pilgrims.

Pilgrims are to note that the 2018 Hajj fare for each state would be jointly determined by the commission and the state concerned,” NAHCON said.

The commission also said no further extension would be granted by the after the April deadline.

It said a delegation from the commission and states are already in Saudi Arabia to conclude arrangements on the final component of 2018 Hajj fare for announcement to the public.

  • CAC set to register companies within two hours of application

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has reiterated its commitment to complete company registration processes within two hours of the application starting from December this year.

The Acting Registrar-General, CAC, Azuka Azinge, stated this on Thursday during the oversight visit of the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment to the commission’s Lagos office in Alausa, Ikeja.

She said the various innovations that the commission had put in place had created an enabling environment for customers to register their businesses within 24 hours in line with global standards.

This, according to her, has contributed to the improvement in the country’s global ranking in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Report by 24 places in 2017.

Azinge stated, “The post-registration is still manual. We are hoping that before the next few months, we should have that online, so that the issue of paying annual returns, which is still very cumbersome at the moment, can be easily achieved.

“We are still working and improving on the pre-registration infrastructure platform. We are hoping that as we continue to do that, the pre-registration process will also become faster, with less complaints from the customers. We want to reduce the 24 hours it takes to register a company to two hours. We are hoping to do that maybe by the end of the year or before that.”

Noting that the Senate committee had already conducted a public hearing on the amendment of the Companies and Allied Matters Act, she said the enactment of a new CAMA, reflecting some of the best practices in company registration and administration, would boost the country’s global ranking.
