    Afrobeats singer Crayon has celebrated his colleague and label mate, Rema following his performance at Ballon D’or.

    Rema had on Monday night made Nigerians proud as he performed at the Ballon d’Or award, in Paris, France.

    His performance at Ballon D’or became a historic win for Nigeria, as the singer is the first Afrobeat artist to perform at the award ceremony.

    Reacting to the performance, Crayon stated that he had goosebumps and became feverish when Rema shook Mbappe.

    Calling him his brother, he expressed pride in him as he noted how his performance was amazing.

    He said: “See my brother for Ballon d’Or. I’m so proud to call you my brother! What an amazing performance! When you shake Mbappe I get goosebumps!!!! Cold enters my spine!! Rema.”

    Divine Ikubor, fondly Called Rema, has claimed that some of his colleagues are copying his style of music without acknowlegement.

    The “Calm Down” crooner in a recent Rolling Stone interview noted that his counterparts are getting ideas from him.

    He said, “I’ve been on the road for 4 years back-to-back; dropping bangers, hopping on stages. It has helped my growth non-stop.

    “In as much as vacation is needed, I just don’t like to feel idle. I have so much plans for evolving this [afrobeats] sound. I’ve always been that guy who just want to change the guy and change how the game is perceived. From sound to shows, to branding.

    “Even though some artistes will not give me credit, I know how many people [artists] have copied my moves and I am flattered by it,” he said.

    Why Nigerians don’t treasure Rema – Johnny Drille

    Nigerian singer, Johnny Drille, has rained praises on  Rema while stating that his counterpart doesn’t get enough accolades for his tremendous contributions and input towards the growth of Nigerian music.

    Speaking in a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, Johnny Drille said: “Not to be controversial or anything but if Rema was some other artistes, other big artistes in Nigeria, everyone would be screaming at their lungs like, ‘Hey! This person is breaking ground.”

    “And Rema for his age has done some really incredible things that I don’t think we give him enough credit for.

    “I mean, he has literally one of the biggest songs not just in Africa but in the world with ‘Calm Down’ which has been on the Billboard Top 10 for almost a year.

    “That has never been done in the history of African music. And he has a lot of sold-out shows all over the world.

    “It just feels to me like he’s just getting started. We need to give the young man more credit.”

    Blackface criticizes Rema’s lyrics for negative portrayal of Nigerian music

    Ahmedu Augustine, fondly called Blackface, has said, Rema’s song ‘Charm’ lacks morals.

    Blackface in an interview on the Honest Bunch podcast on Monday. criticised  the lyrics of the song  ‘Charm’ which was released in 2022 and has  topped many charts and became a global hit song phenomenon

    Rema recently secured the title of Best Global Africa Artist of the Year for his hit track, “Calm Down,” at the Trace Awards in Rwanda.

    Referencing the lyrics of the song “Charm,” in which the singer stated, “I get money pass your papa,” Blackface expressed his discontent, saying he would never allow his daughter to marry a personality like Rema.

    You dey drive your car, you no dey hear my music for there, but you dey hear I get e money pass your papa, pass your mama – as in. Fine girl, come; wetin dey worry you.

    “I dey talk to you, you know sey I get money pass your papa. Na that kain boy my daughter wan carry come house for me—say daddy, ‘I like this man, I want to marry him’.

    “I go kick two of una go outside, (I will kick two of them outside) because this one number one, no morals. Why I am telling you no morals is because what you speak comes from the heart. Unless somebody is telling you to speak something else because they feel it is going to sell,” Blackface said.

    The songwriter also stressed that an artist disrespects the industry when they are only concerned with making money. He lamented, adding, “This is why there is no real love for the game.”

    Blackface blast Rema over new single ‘charm’ lyrics

    Nigerian artiste  and former plantashun Boiz  member, Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo, popularly  known as Blackface has criticised the lyrics of Rema’s hit song ‘Charm.’

    According to him, some of the lines of the song are insulting.

    The former member of the defunct Plantashun Boiz said Rema’s lyrics show that he lacks morals.

    Blackface spoke in the latest episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast co-hosted by actor Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, aka Nedu.

    He said, “The songs they are singing nowadays, do they represent Nigeria in a good light?

    “‘I get money pass your papa, I get money pass your mama.’ What’s that? ‘Fine girl come wettin dey worry you?’ ‘You dey craze for your head?’ ‘You no know say I get money pass your papa?’ Is that the kind of man that my daughter will bring home to me for marriage? I will kick that daughter and the man out of my house. Because such men as Rema have no morals.

    “I said he has no morals because what you speak comes from the heart.”

    Rwandan president, Paul Kagame hosts Rema

    Nigerian musician Divine Ikubor, fondly called Rema, met Rwandan president Paul Kagame.

    On Sunday, October 22, the artist paid a courtesy visit to the presidential palace in Kigali and was greeted warmly by Kagame himself.

    Rema attended the 2023 Trace Music Awards in Kigali on Saturday, where he was named Global African Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for his song “Calm Down.”

    Speaking during his visit to the President, the ‘Rema Coming to Rwanda, it gives me that vibe of a place I can rest and feel at home without having to travel overseas.

    “A lot of time we just want to take that break, we just want to lay back… I feel like with here we can serene energy, that vibe. And I feel like it’s even going to be a bigger thing when we [Africans] start uniting. I must say thank you so much, Mr President.”

    Rema, Selena Gomez to perform at 2023 MTV EMAs

    Afrobeats star, Rema and Selena Gomez, US singer, are set to headline the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) in Paris.

    The organizers, in a statement, also unveiled the list of the other award nominees that will perform at the event.
    ‘Calm Down’, a song by Rema, was nominated in the ‘Best Collaboration’ category while the singer is a nominee in the ‘Best Afrobeats’ category.

    The Afrobeats category was added to the nomination list for the first time in the EMAs’ history.

    Other nominees listed for performances include Anne-Marie, David Guetta, Coi Leray, Jung Kook, Manuel Turizo, Ozuna, Reneé Rapp, Sabrina Carpenter, Thirty Seconds To Mars, and The Kid LAROI.

    Fans are allowed to vote for the ‘Best Song’, ‘Best Artiste’, ‘Best Collaboration’, and ‘Best Afrobeats’ categories until 10:59 pm on October 31.

    The ‘Biggest Fans’ and ‘Best Group’ categories winners will be voted for at a later time via MTV EMAs’ social media pages.

    The upcoming annual European awards show will air live from Paris on November 5.
    In September, Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ the ‘Best Afrobeats’ category at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
