Thug statement: Remi Tinubu looks down on people–Aisha Yesufu

Human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, on Thursday, attacked Mrs. Remi Tinubu, wife of All Progressives Congress chieftain, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, for exhibiting disgusting haughtiness on Wednesday when she called a woman, a thug during a public hearing of the constitutional review.

Yesufu made this known in a chat with Punch.

TheNewsGuru had earlier reported that a trending video showed Tinubu representing Lagos Central was involved in a shouting bout with some Nigerians who attended the event at the Marriot Hotel in Lagos.

Tinubu is leading the Senate Committee on Review of the 1999 Constitution in the South-West.

However, there was an uproar when a yet-to-be-identified woman was not allowed entry into the venue. The woman, who complained about her exclusion from the venue, was criticized by Mrs. Tinubu for being “rude”.

Some Nigerians at the event then asked the senator to apologise to her but Mrs. Tinubu said, “I will not apologise for what I said. I saw it and I said it.”

In her reaction, Yesufu said, “It’s so much disgusting arrogance from a Senator who is an elected official to speak to citizens in that manner and this is not the first time Remi Tinubu is doing this. She looks down on people. I’m sure she is used to people who come to her, rolling on the floor and she thinks everybody will bow before her family. That is why she keeps on carrying this arrogance around.

“It is good that the citizens called her out there and asked her to apologise and this is what needs to happen, we need to bring down this arrogance that these politicians have.

“What has been her contribution since she has been in the Senate? What has she contributed to national issues? What has she contributed to women issues? Nothing. She is just there just because she is there. People who get to power out of tokenism have this kind of arrogance that comes from emptiness. It is absolutely annoying and disgraceful that she behaves that way not knowing that she is there to serve the people.”

Remi Tinubu slams Smart Adeyemi at Senate over insecurity remarks

Senator Remi Tinubu (Lagos Central) on Tuesday interjected her colleague Senator Smart Adeyemi (Kogi West) at the Senate while the latter was sharing his thoughts on Nigeria’s security challenges.

Sharing his thoughts to a motion on the security situation in the country, Adeyemi, who is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress like Tinubu, said the country was facing the worst instability since the civil war.

“This is the worst instability we are facing. In fact this is worse than the civil war,” he said.

But Tinubu interrupted him, asking: “Are you in PDP (Peoples Democratic Party)? Are you a wolf in sheep’s clothing?”

Adeyemi, however, snubbed her and continued: “We cannot pretend that we are capable of handling the situation in our hands. America, as powerful as they are, when the pandemic came, it came to a point China came to their rescue.

“We shouldn’t pretend that we need foreign support now. Billions of naira has been voted for security services and nothing is coming out of it.

“I’m a party man and I’m supporting APC but it has gotten to a point that as supporters we cannot keep quiet.”

  • We don’t trust Igbo people – Remi Tinubu

We don’t trust Igbo people – Remi Tinubu

Senator Remi Tinubu, representing Lagos Central at the National Assembly, created a stir on Saturday when she told an Igbo man that she does not trust people from their ethnic group

The wife of All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader, Bola Tinubu, made this known after voting at the polling unit in front of her Bourdillon residence in Ikoyi

The encounter was captured in a video that has since gone viral.

Speaking directly to a physically challenged voter identified as Charles Nnamani, Mrs. Tinubu said that Igbos in Lagos did not vote for President Muhammadu Buhari during the presidential election.

When Nnamani told her that he voted for Buhari, the 58-year-old responded in Pidgin English, “How I go know? Igbo, we no dey trust una again (How will I know? You Igbo, we don’t trust you anymore.)”

Recall that Tinubu, who was elected for a third term in the Senate last month, had earlier told people who demanded money from her at the polling booth “show me your hand, get the money.”

Earlier, while speaking with journalists, Tinubu attributed the low voter turnout at the polling unit to her belief that the elite living in the highbrow area believed that only the Federal Government’s policies could impact on their business interests.

  • Don’t complain against government if you didn’t vote – Remi Tinubu tells voters

Sen. Oluremi Tinubu on Saturday said that eligible voters in Lagos State who did not cast their votes in the local government elections would not be justified to complain against local councils.

Oluremi, representing Lagos Central, said this in Lagos in an interview with journalists in her residence in Bourdillon, Ikoyi.

The wife of a former Governor of the State and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Bola Tinubu, spoke with newsmen after casting her vote.

“This is the time to show solidarity for the government; we believe that this government is working; this is the time that everybody should perform his/her civic duty,’’ she said.

The senator said that voting was a way to hold governments accountable.

“It is not for you but for your generation yet unborn so that things can be put in place.

“We have set the standard in Lagos; every elected candidate does not have any choice but to work,’’ she said.

She said that she had been working as a people’s representative for the past six years and would continue to do so till the end of her tenure.

Mrs Tinubu commended the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for efforts in conducting the polls.

“LASIEC has done well; security personnel are on ground ensuring that there is peace and order.’’

Also, the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Mr Tunji Bello, who voted at Ward E, Olonade Street, Yaba LGA, commended voters who turned out in spite of the downpour.

“Voters have shown support for democracy by coming to vote in spite of the rain.

“Starting the election behind schedule is understandable due to the downpour; it is impressive.

“I believe that APC will carry the day,’’ he said.

Mr Jide Jimoh, representing Lagos Mainland in the House of Representatives, told journalists that the elections had been peaceful.

“The election process is fantastic so far, and I commend the Lagos State Commissioner of Police for that.

“I won’t want to make any judgment on LASIEC because we are just starting. Taking off does not matter; it is landing that is the most important thing.

“We have taken off; at the end of the day, we will see the result. I expect a positive result,’’ he said. (NAN)

  • Rescue of 82 Chibok Schoolgirls, proof of FG’s commitment to Nigerian child – Tinubu

Senator Oluremi Tinubu representing Lagos Central Senatorial District has said the recent rescue of 82 of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls is a proof of the commitment of the Federal Government to the wellbeing of the Nigerian child.

On the occasion of this year’s Children’s Day, she said her prayers were with the remainder of the over 200 girls abducted from their dormitory in Chibok in 2014 who are still in captivity.

Senator Tinubu expressed the hope that the remaining girls would be rescued soon and reunited with their families.

In a letter addressed to the Nigerian Child across the 36 states of the federation, Senator Tinubu also charged the government to provide for those who have been displaced by insurgency and are often without basic necessities – food, shelter, affordable and accessible health care and education.

“This is your right and I hope that Nigeria can be better to provide you a whole world of opportunities ahead of you. It is my hope that every one of you can be protected from violence such in all its forms such as exploitation and abuse, trafficking, physical and humiliating punishment, harmful traditional practices etc. However, you must not let the difficulty of the situation around you limit the greatness you carry,” she said.

    The letter reads …

    “Dear Nigerian Child,

”It is the 27th of May, a day set aside to celebrate you a valuable resource, our hope and leaders of tomorrow; appreciate childhood and address issues that concern you all. Thus, I rejoice with you.
Corruption war: Nigeria still has a long way to go – UK High Commissioner

“This children’s day is a joyous one, particularly so, in light of the return of 82 Chibok girls, children like you who were abducted in 2014 and deprived of access to their homes, education, parents and loved ones. The return of these girls is proof of the commitment of this government to your wellbeing. My prayers are with those still in captivity and for their hasty return.

“Some of you, especially those who have been displaced by insurgency, are often without basic necessities – food, shelter, affordable and accessible health care and education. This is your right and I hope that Nigeria can be better to provide you a whole world of opportunities ahead of you.

“It is my hope that every one of you can be protected from violence such in all its forms such as exploitation and abuse, trafficking, physical and humiliating punishment, harmful traditional practices etc. However, you must not let the difficulty of the situation around you limit the greatness you carry.

“My commitment to you children has not waned. As the Senator representing Lagos Central, I will continue to do my best to ensure better conditions, welfare and opportunities for you all.

“You are the leaders of tomorrow, Nigeria’s future; and everything you do and learn is to prepare you for that great responsibility and equip you with all the necessary tools. Please make the most of it.

Today, I wish you a happy Children’s day and hope sincerely that you take on the baton of excellence, impacting lives, your surroundings and Nigeria in all you do.

    “Happy Children’s Day 2017.”
