    CAF Confederations Cup: How Remo stars impressed in Morocco

    Nigeria’s representative in the CAF confederations cup Remo Stars impressed in far away Morocco after playing out a 1-1 draw against FAR.

    FAR Rabat, drew the first blood when Cape Verdean striker, Diney Borges gave the host the lead in the 27th minute, however,  Olamilekan Adebayo equalized for the visitors in the 55 minutes.

    FAR did all within their power to dash forward but the defense of the visitors kept repelling the attack to end the match in a stalemate.

    After the second leg in Remo international stadium next week, the winner of the encounter will face either AngloGold Ashanti Golden Boys of Guinea or Mauritanian’s Nouakchott Kings Football club in the second round of the competition.

    Nigeria’s other representatives on the continent, Rivers United and Kwara United also won their games by defeating their opponents AS Manji of Niger Republic and Watanga FC of Liberia respectively, whilst Plateau United secured a 2-2 draw with Eding Sports of Cameroon.

    NPFL leaders Remo Stars beat hosts Wikki Tourists

    Visiting Remo Stars Football Club of Ikenne beat Wikki Tourists FC 2-1 on Sunday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi in the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Match Day 6 win ensured that Remo Stars maintained their top position in the league.

    The Remo Stars dominated much of the proceedings in the first half of the encounter, and took the lead after 11 minutes of the match through Taiwo Ojo,

    After 63 minutes, Abdullahi Oyedele scored their second goal to put the match beyond the reach of the hosts.

    But Salisu Adamu halved the deficit in the 75th minute, with the goal gingering Wikki Tourists to put in more efforts in order to get a draw at least.

    Gbenga Ogunbote, the Technical Adviser of Remo Stars, in an interview later said he was appreciative of God for giving his team the opportunity and edge to win against Wikki Tourists.

    He said they were going to put the match behind them and plan ahead of their other matches.

    Wikki Tourists’ Chief Coach, Kabiru Dogo, could not be reached later by NAN for his comments on the match.

    This could have been because of the fact that the team’s fans were all out blaming him for the loss, as well as his coaching style.

    One of the fans, Musa Ajiya, said the coach wrongly positioned his players, even as he added that the team did well and made all efforts to equalise.

    Remo Stars reclaim NPFL top spot

    Remo Stars Football Club of Ikenne on Sunday reclaimed their top spot in the ongoing 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with a 1-0 win over visiting Plateau United.

    In their Match Day 5 fixture at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, the league leaders needed only a Samuel Anakwe goal in the 55th minute to take the full points.

    They had lost their prime position by 24 hours, after second-placed Rivers United grabbed a point from their game on Saturday to displace them.

    The Port Harcourt-based Rivers United had drawn goalless with hosts Niger Tornadoes of Minna to move to nine points.

    That was a point above Remo Stars who had earlier been leading them on goals difference.

    But Sunday’s win over the visiting Jos-based Plateau United returned Remo Stars to top spot with 11 points from a possible 15.

    Enyimba International are in third place behind Rivers United after a 1-0 win over the Shooting Stars of Ibadan in Aba, after an 87th minute goal by Emmanuel Godwin.

    Rangers International drew 1-1 with hosts Kwara United of Ilorin to stay in fourth place, one spot ahead of the Afonja Babes.

    The Enugu side are however only ahead on goals difference, as they both have eight points each.

    Slained Remo stars player, Kaka finally laid to rest

    The remains of the Remo Stars footballer, Kazeem Tiyamiyu, who was allegedly killed after his arrest by a police officer from the Zonal Intervention Squad, have been interred amid tears and emotions.

    Tiyamiyu, who is fondly addressed as Kaka, was buried at Ajaka in Sagamu.

    Kaka was buried on Thursday according to Islamic rites.

    The young footballer, until his death, was the Assistant Captain for Remo Stars Football Club.

    Kaka’s death: Police disband Zonal Intervention Squad in Ogun

    Following the death of a Remo Stars FC footballer, Kazeem Tiyamiu, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has disbanded the Zonal Intervention Squad in Ogun.

    Represented by a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Peter Ogunyonwo, the IGP disclosed this when he accompanied Gov. Dapo Abiodun on a visit to the parents of the deceased on Tuesday in Sagamu.

    He added that their offices have also been handed over to the State Police Command.

    The DIG said that the death of Tiyamiyu would prompt the police to carry out more reforms, insisting that the officers involved, who have since been arrested, were on illegal duty and did not obtain clearance from the police formation in Sagamu before the operation.

    It would be recalled that some police officers from the ZIS unit in Abeokuta had arrested the footballer, and there after allegedly pushed him to his death on Saturday.

    Ogunyonwo, however, pledged that a full investigation would be carried out to bring those involved to justice just as the Force would do everything possible to purge itself of “trigger-happy elements”.

    Abiodun, in his remarks, appealed to the people of Sagamu to eschew violence and not give criminals opportunity to perpetrate their acts.

    He promised to use every instrument of government available to unearth the circumstances surrounding the killing and the crisis caused in the town.

    “We will use every means possible, not only to ensure that justice is served, but that it is seen to have been served. We’ll ensure that this will be the last of such avoidable deaths in the hands of security officers in our state,” he said.

    Others who accompanied the governor were the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Kenneth Ebrimson, and the State Director of the Department of State Services, Mr David Tuska.

    Gov Abiodun reacts to death of Remo stars player

    Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has reacted to the death of Remo stars player, Tiamiyu Kazeem aka Kaka, as he called for order in the state and promised to further investigations.

    The governor urged the players and supporters of Remo stars football club, residents of Sagamu and indeed the people of Ogun state to remain calm, following the tragic passing of a player of the club.

    While expressing shock about the ordeal, the governor assured that a proper, transparent and independent investigation would be immediately launched into the incident to unravel the exact circumstances of the occurrence and bring the persons found guilty to book.

    The Governor, who eulogised the late player as a young man with great potentials for the development of the state and the nation in general, strongly stated that his government will never take with levity, the lives, and properties of the good people of Ogun state.

    He further stated that the first business of the government was the security and welfare of the citizens of the state.

    He added that the case of Kaka would not be an exemption, and he promised that Kaka’s unfortunate case would not be swept under the carpet.

    Governor Abiodun, however, called on everyone to maintain peace and calm during the investigations and be confident that anyone found culpable will be brought to book according to the Nigerian law.
