    Building collapse: Ganduje orders intensified rescue operation

    Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje has ordered intensified rescue operations for all those trapped in the rubble of a three-storey building at the “GSM” market along Beirut road in Kano metropolis.

    This is contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, on Tuesday in Kano.

    Garba also said the governor has suspended the swearing-in ceremony of commissioners earlier scheduled for Wednesday in honour of victims of the collapsed building.

    “While lamenting the unfortunate incident, the governor assured that investigation is ongoing to unravel the cause of the collapsed structure which was under construction,” he qouted Ganduje as saying.

    He said that the governor also shared the sad moment with the victims of Monday’s flooding that occurred in many parts of the metropolis, during which, valuable items were lost in the deluge.

    Newsmen reports that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that one person died and seven others were injured in the building.

    Dr Nuradeen Abdullahi, NEMA Kano Territorial Coordinator, said the incident occurred at about 3:05 p.m on Tuesday.

    “The building collapsed while additional construction of stairs was ongoing,” he said.
    He said so far, eight persons have been rescued and were taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, for treatment.

    ”One person died, six persons with minor injuries had been treated and discharged, while one person with multiple fractures was still receiving treatment,” the top NEMA official said.

    Abdullahi said that search and rescue operations were still ongoing to rescue those trapped beneath the rubble.

    Newsmen reports that the building was under construction but the ground floor was occupied and it was reported that people were shopping there when the building collapsed.

    Kebbi abduction: Governor Bagudu speaks on rescue operations so far

    The Kebbi State Government says some of the students and teachers kidnapped from the Federal Government College in Birnin-Yauri have been rescued.

    Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu disclosed this in a communique late on Friday. The governor assured the people that all those abducted will be returned safely.

    According to Governor Bagudu, the security to life and property of the citizenry remain the utmost priority of his administration.

    Bagudu further stated that a premium has been placed on the provision of logistics and the necessary equipment to security agencies to waging total war against banditry and all acts of criminality until normality and tranquility are attained fully.

    The governor added that additional security would be provided to all institutions of learning within the state.

    While addressing parents, staff, and students of the College, Governor Bagudu sympathized with the school authorities on the unfortunate incident.

    He commended all security services in the state for their quick response which led to the rescue of some of the abducted students and teachers. He also appreciated parents and guardians for remaining calm and courageous with regards to the ugly incident and urged that they also pray along for God’s intervention on the matter.

    Boko Haram terrorists kill nine soldiers during rescue operation

    Boko Haram terrorists in Nasarawa have killed nine military officers during a rescue operation in a forest along Mararaba-Udege road in Nasarawa state linking Otukpo Oweto in Benue state.

    The slain soldiers led to the forest by an officer Felix Kura, an indigene of Benue state, were Iliya Kefas, Bati Yakubu and other young officers whose names cannot be identified immediately.

    According to reports, the slain officers were on a mission to dislodge the Boko Haram terrorists from the forest who kidnapped many indigenes of the state and held them in captive.

    The operation led to the death of about five Boko Haram terrorists before they were overpowered by the terrorists whose weapons, it was gathered, were more sophisticated than those used by the soldiers.

    The slain soldiers, according to reports, were from the 177 Guards Battalion, Shitu Barracks in Keffi, Nasarawa state.

    “As soon as they ran into the ambush and they realised they were being overpowered, Kura was said to have told his colleagues including his cover to escape.

    “The authorities of the 117 Guards Battalion have informed the families of the slain soldiers of their fate and signal has been sent to the headquarters,” a source said.

    A source in the barracks who spoke with The Nation said: “We actually lost nine soldiers in that mission and not seven, it is quite unfortunate but that is the supreme price of a military officer.

    “We are currently collaborating with Four Special Forces Command of the Nigerian military headquarters in Doma LGA of the state to reinforce and launch a reprisal, we are not given up, we must overrun them and make sure we dislodge them completely.”

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that the Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule on Friday raised the alarm over activities of the terror group, Boko Haram in the state.

    He told State House Correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari that Boko Haram fighters were regrouping in the state.
