Protesters storm CBN headquarters, demand Emefiele’s resignation

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has called for the resignation of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, following an alleged case of terrorism financing against him.

The Department of State Services (DSS) had recently went to court to seek an order to arrest and detain Emefiele over the allegation but a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja declined their application.

The court noted said there was no strong evidence from the DSS to back the allegation in the application.

But the NYCN in collaboration with 30 Civil Society Advocacy Groups for Accountability and Probity, not satisfied with the outcome of the court, protested on Friday and demanded that Emefiele must resign and be investigated.

President of NYCN and convener of the group, Dr. Solomon Adodo, said that the protest was for an urgent national rescue.

“We, therefore, offer the assistance of urging Emefiele to immediately tender his resignation, and if he fails to do so within 72 hours, both President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly should invoke the relevant laws to remove him,” he said.

Adodo urged Emefiele to honour the invitation by the DSS or any other security agency and clear his name in the allegation rather than hide under non-existent statutes and laws.

“This is a critical time for our country, Nigeria; we should, therefore, all rise to the occasion of fixing it properly and with the right narratives, variables and solutions.

“We warned about this dangerous trend when Emefiele became partisan, openly aspiring for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), before he was forced to withdraw.

“As a matter of fact, what the CBN needs is a total, systematic and systemic cleansing.

“Therefore, not only should Emefiele resign or be relieved of his duties as the CBN Governor, his deputies and current directors should be investigated and all those found culpable should be sacked.

“But importantly, we urge the DSS to be unwavering in carrying out its national security duties. No amount of blackmail or intimidation must make it backtrack from the truest and deepest professionalism that its duties require.

“They have our support and that of other patriots. Nigeria must remain safe, no matter whose ox is gored,” Adodo said.

He urged the Federal Government to activate international protocols under the INTERPOL and get Emefiele back to the country to answer to the allegations, as the CBN cannot be administered from abroad.

“We owe this country eternal vigilance in the war against corruption and terrorism. Let us avoid every loud and noisy single narrative. Let only the truth prevail,” Adodo said.

Serie A: Juventus president, entire board announce resignation

The entire board of Italian club Juventus, including president Andrea Agnelli, have resigned.

The Serie A club finished fourth in the league last season and made a €254.3m (£220m) loss – a record in Italy.

Last November, Juventus said they were co-operating with police after an investigation was launched into the club’s transfers.

The investigation concerned “revenues from player registration rights” between 2019 and 2021.

Agnelli and vice-president Pavel Nedved, who is also stepping down, were among those under investigation.

The board have stepped down en masse “having considered the centrality and relevance of pending legal and accounting issues”, said a statement.

The outgoing board “considered to be in the best social interest to recommend that Juventus equip itself with a new board of directors to address these issues,” the statement added.

Managing director Maurizio Arrivabene will remain in his role for an interim period while a new board is brought together.

Agnelli was one of the chief architects of the breakaway plans to form the European Super League in 2021.

Juve, who are listed on the Italian stock exchange, are being investigated for allegations of presenting false accounting information to investors and producing invoices for non-existent transactions.

The club has denied any wrongdoing.

Other clubs are also the subject of a parallel investigation which was launched by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) in October.

Shareholders are set to meet again on 18 January to appoint the new board, the club said.

BREAKING: Boris Johnson finally resigns as British PM

Embattled Prime Minister Boris Johnson has finally resigned, setting the path for the election of a new British Prime Minister.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Boris Johnson announced his resignation as British PM on Thursday.

Johnson confirmed the process to appoint a new leader would begin now, with a timetable set out next week.

“I want you to know how sad I am to be giving up the best job in the world, but them’s the breaks.

“No one in politics is remotely indispensable,” Johnson said, speaking from Downing Street.

He thanked millions of people who voted Conservative at the last election, and gave a reason why he fought so long to remain in office.

“I thought it was my job, my duty and my obligation to you,” Johnson said.

TNG reports Boris Johnson became Prime Minister in July 2019.

He will, however, remain as PM until a successor is in place, expected to be by the time of the Conservative Party conference in October.

Johnson was weakened by anger about Partygate, in which his administration was accused of hosting parties on government property despite government guidance to avoid social gatherings due to COVID-19.

Then allegations arose that he had picked Chris Pincher for key party roles in spite of knowing about accusations of sexual misconduct against Pincher.

Johnson’s resignation came after the prime minister haemorrhaged support among his ministers and member of his Tory party.

More than 50 lawmakers resigned from government or party roles since Tuesday night when the mass exodus was triggered by the resignations of Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid from the Cabinet.

The prime minister had sought to defy his critics and carry on in the office, in spite of warnings from Cabinet colleagues that this was not sustainable.

But resignations continued and Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi who was only appointed to the role on Tuesday, went public with his call for the prime minister to quit.

The timetable for the Tory leadership contest would be agreed upon between the 1922 Committee, which ran the parliamentary proceedings to whittle the candidates down to two, and Conservative headquarters.

But critics of the prime minister suggested he should not be allowed to remain in office until October.

George Freeman, who quit as science minister on Thursday, said that now Johnson had finally done the decent thing, he should hand in the seals of office, and apologise to her majesty.

“To allow her to appoint a caretaker under whom ministers can serve, so the Conservative Party can choose a new leader properly.’’

BREAKING: Boris Johnson set to resign as British PM

Boris Johnson is expected to resign as British prime minister after a series of cabinet resignations, ending an unprecedented political crisis over his future.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports this is coming after a dramatic number of cabinet ministers quit in rejection of the leader.

A spokesman for Downing Street has confirmed that Mr Johnson will make a statement to the British public in a matter of hours.

At least 55 government ministers quitted and several of his own cabinet members as well, including newly-appointed Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi.

Zahawi told the prime minister he must “go now” for the good of the country.

It is expected Mr Johnson will remain as prime minister until a new leader of the Conservative Party is chosen before the party conference in October.

TNG reports Johnson had been faced with a number of scandals, most notably over a string of rule-breaking parties in government buildings during COVID-19 lockdowns.

PDP: Prophet Gbujie expresses shock over Peter Obi’s resignation

Prophet Godfrey Gbujie, Ministerial Leader of World Zionist Union in the South-East, Nigeria, has expressed shock over the sudden withdrawal of Mr Peter Obi from the 2023 presidential race.

Gbujie had announced on May 18, 2022, that God revealed to him that Obi would emerge the presidential standard-bearer for the PDP in the upcoming general election.

But on May 25, the former governor of Anambra, Mr Obi, in a letter he personally signed, announced his resignation from PDP and withdrawal from the presidential race.

Gbujie, in a telephone chat NAN in Awka on Thursday, said Obi acted in error as his last-minute decision lacked proper consultation.

“I must say that I am shocked by the sudden withdrawal of Peter Obi from the PDP,  his action could be likened to that of King Saul of Israel in the Bible shortly after he was made king.

“Obi did not consult many stakeholders within and outside the PDP before he threw in the towel in a venture God had already endorsed him.

“I do know that a group backing his presidential aspiration on the platform of the PDP as at early Wednesday had raised more than N2.5 billion and other meetings were selected for Wednesday evening and on Thursday before a sudden news of his withdrawal came,” Gbujie said.

He said though Obi’s calculation might be to pitch tent with another party to pursue his ambition, he must understand that God uses man to perform miracles.

“We might hear tomorrow that Obi has crossed to another party in continuation of his presidential aspiration, but the truth remains that PDP already has a firm root in many parts of the country.

“It is for this singular reason that God wanted to use the platform to deliver Peter Obi, but since he acted without due recourse, I wish him well,” Gbujie concluded.

  • Again, Fmr Edo State Commissioner, Afegbua bombs APC admin, demands Buhari’s immediate resignation

Again, Fmr Edo State Commissioner, Afegbua bombs APC admin, demands Buhari’s immediate resignation

Again, former Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua has bombed the All Progressives Congress APC administration demanding the immediate resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari.

This is coming barely two weeks after Afegbua took the Buhari administration to cleaners over the poor state of all segments in the country.

In a statement issued and signed by the activist on Tuesday was greatly influenced by the insecurity across Nigeria particularly the recent attacks on trains where innocent Nigerians lost their lives.

Afegbua punctured the Buhari administation declaring that:

“The Kaduna bound train attack is one bare-faced example of a presidency that has lost its compass and leadership roadmap.

” It is inhuman, agonisingly pulsating, and markedly wicked to continue to render condolence messages when the opportunity to arrest the situation is right within the purview of government. The train attack is the height of crass incompetence and failure of government to pursue its statutory responsibilities as encapsulated in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

” Once a government is unable to execute and fulfil its responsibility of ensuring welfare and security to lives and property, such a government has no business being in contention.

“In saner climes, such a president would ordinarily resign his position and apologise to Nigerians for failing to live up to its expectations. A failed president has no business in government. A president that has led the country to the precipice, rendering its citizenry comatose, killing productivity, and appearing helpless to solving the multiplicity of problems confronting it, has no business being in government.

“A train attack with several deaths, is a further confirmation that the country has gone bunkers.

“The failure of government has become monumental, but sycophants, rentiers and professional coupon clippers, would rather praise-sing in very patronising tone to gain the attention of Mr. President.

” No sector in the country seems to be working; power sector is down, economy is in shambles, insecurity has gotten to almost irredeemable proportion, while unemployment and job losses have become the visible tell-tales of a system that is eternally dysfunctional.

” Instead of rising to the occasion, what we hear from presidency’s publicists are often weather- beaten rhetorics, scare-mongering, blame game and false accusation of opposition parties with subject-matters that are exclusively within the confines of governmental responsibility.

” As a government that ought to be on top of its game, the APC-led Federal Government has shown its urge for injustice and politics of exclusion.

“The level of hypocrisy of this Buhari-led presidency is also not helping matters. The presidency has not been able to get its rhythms right. Its political optics is wrong-headed, installing corruption proven leadership at its helms, and dubiously pursuing an agenda of consensus to further implement its imposition strategy.

“When a government cannot get its politics and governance structure right, it leaves gaping hole in the hearts of its citizenry. That Nigeria has degenerated to this mindless bubble, unable to do things differently to mitigate our present predicament, is the more reason why President Buhari should resign.

” I say this with all due sense of responsibility as a citizen of a country that is apparently lost in the wilderness of ideas to ignite the right rhythms for collective participation.

“I am utterly ashamed of being led by a leadership that is weak, incompetent, sleeping on duty, reclusive and consistently failing in its assigned responsibilities. Big shame!.

KADUNA TRAIN ATTACK: PRESIDENT BUHARI SHOULD RESIGN.

I read a statement from the presidency last week accusing the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, of trying to destabilise an already destabilised, dislocated, disjointed, crippled and demobilised country, presided over by an uncreative president. When I read the statement, I was almost tempted to conclude that it is possible that those spokesmen of Mr. President now indulge in alcoholic intake which may have affected their psyche about the country they now speak for. The fact is that, Nigeria has been destabilised by this Buhari-led presidency, creating poverty, distributing hunger and circulating insecurity. Our military has been heavily overstretched, permanently on their toes, trying to piece together, a country that is torn apart by nepotism, selective amnesia, cronyism and mediocrity. Never, and I repeat, never has Nigeria been this dehumanised and traumatised in our over 62 years of independence. The Buhari-presidency has finally broken the chord of our unity and solidarity, polarise the country, render the system postrate, and delivering poor leadership to the chagrin of all.
