APC clears the air on Akpanudoedehe resignation

Alhaji Salisu Dambatta, Director of Publicity of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says Sen. John Akpanudoedehe, Secretary of the party’s Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) has not resigned his position as being speculated.

Dambatta said this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja while reacting to reports in the media that Akpanudoedehe had resigned his position following the leadership change in the party.

“We wish to note that the Secretary of the APC CECPC, Akpanudoedehe never sent a resignation letter to the party to the best of its knowledge and neither was he sacked as some social media blogs have speculated.

“All those are utterly false, the APC is one family, the CECPC is one unit,” he said.

Dambatta said that the party had an Acting Chairman in the person of Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger.

According to him, Bello is racing against time to deliver a national convention and committee members that are united in supporting him in carrying out the mandate.

“Please disregard social media stories that are not rooted in fact or even sound reasoning,” he said.

The new national executives are expected to be elected at the APC national convention slated for March 26.

APC denies mass resignation of ward executives in Gombe

The Gombe state chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied report alleging mass resignation of its ward executives in Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

Mr Moses Kyari, the state APC publicity secretary disclosed this when he addressed newsmen on Thursday in Gombe.

Kyari was reacting to a social media report indicating that over 80 per cent of APC ward executives in Yamaltu/Deba LGA have resigned their positions in solidarity with Sen. Danjuma Goje.

He described the report as very dangerous and malicious.

He said that the report alleging that all the executives in the 11 wards of Yamaltu/Deba LGA have resigned their positions in solidarity with Sen. Danjuma Goje was false.

“This is not true, it is a lie from the pit of hell and as you can see the people concerned have addressed a news conference.

“The people that were allegedly said to have resigned have come to debunk that and to tell the true story of what really transpired.

“Some of the people whose names appear on the list are not even in town; some of them are even sick and could not go out, how did their names appear on the list,” he said.

The publicity secretary described the report as the handiwork of enemies of the party in the state adding that a committee would be set up to investigate the source of the story.

“We shall take punitive actions by going to court to ensure that the people involved are brought to book,” he said.

Also speaking, Alhaji Ali Kure, Chairman APC Yamaltu/Deba LGA said the report was laughable and shocking, describing it as fake news.

Kure stated that the fake news was the handiwork some desperate elements in the state politics.

“That is very bad; we expect all citizens to support the government of Gov Inuwa Yahaya who is driving the state to greater heights.

“Up till this moment that I am addressing you, none of the executives has officially inform me or the party, that he has re-signed his position.

“Rather we have sat with all of them and they confirmed that they remain in their respective positions.

The council chairman said the entire members of the APC in Yamaltu/Deba were still holding on to their positions.

Kwara United FC rejects Head Coach, Biffo’s resignation

The management of Kwara United Football Club has rejected the resignation of its Technical Adviser/Head Coach, Abdullahi Biffo, urging him to return to his position after recuperating from eye surgery.

The Club’s Media Officer, Jimoh Bashir, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Ilorin.

Biffo had, in a letter dated Oct. 29, 2021, addressed to the Club Chairman, Kumbi Titiloye, tendered his resignation letter, with Nov. 30, 2021, as his last day of employment.

“Please accept this letter of resignation from my position as Technical Adviser/Head Coach of Kwara United Football Club.

“My last day of employment will be November 30th, 2021,” Biffo’s letter read in part.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that Biffo’s resignation was necessitated by what he described as imbroglio between the leadership of Kwara United and the newly formed Kwara State Sports Commission.

NAN reports that the commission had queried him for not attending the budget defence of the Club.

Biffo said he received a letter of query from the Kwara State Sports Commission, claiming that the act breached the terms of his contract, as he was not directly employed by the commission.

“I received a letter of query from the Kwara State Sports Commission, and as a professional football coach, I value working ethics and well organised working environment.

“I am no longer comfortable working for the club any more,” he said in the letter.

According to Bashir, the chairman said the board had rejected the Head Coach’s resignation, reminding Biffo that he signed a three-year contract which needs to be completed.

“The management of Kwara United Football Club has received your resignation letter, and subsequently rejected same, because it negates the terms and conditions in the three years contract you signed with the club.

“You are, therefore, expected to resume after recuperating from the successful eye surgery you had.

“This is to ensure a smooth preparation of the club for the forthcoming 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Season.

“As a professional football club, we also value working ethics, and club has provided the coaches a well organised working environment in the first and second of the three years of their reign.

“We believed that this will be sustained, irrespective of the circumstances,” Bashir said in the statement.

He said that Kwara United FC would strive to build on the successes of last season, commending the state government for its unalloyed support to the club.

  • WTO DG, Okonjo-Iweala shuts down resignation, interest in 2023 presidential slot rumours

WTO DG, Okonjo-Iweala shuts down resignation, interest in 2023 presidential slot rumours

The Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has declared that she is not interested in vying for Nigeria’s presidency in 2023.

Reacting to rumours about her purported intent to contest at the polls and resign her position with WTO barely seven months into her four and a half-year term, Okonjo-Iweala described the rumour as “utterly ridiculous and not true.”

She said, “I just got here. I am enjoying what I’m doing. It is a very exciting job and I am trying to have some successes here.”

But New York-based Bloomberg News, reported that despite beginning the the year with “a plan to score quick negotiating victories that she said would help reboot the dysfunctional Geneva-based trade body;” insiders revealed that the WTO chief is threatening to walk away from the job.

Seven months into her 4 1/2-year term, Okonjo-Iweala has fully grasped the frustrating reality of the WTO’s historical inertia, even privately floating the idea of resigning if no headway can be found on critical issues, the medium stated, quoting five trade officials in Geneva who declined to be identified.

This year, Okonjo-Iweala has reportedly told ambassadors and staff that she could easily walk away from the job, reminding them that she hasn’t bought any furniture for her temporary home in Geneva, the officials said.

Okonjo-Iweala’s early departure would add yet another layer of chaos to an organization suffering from an existential crisis that may lead governments to conclude the WTO is not a credible forum for addressing their shared challenges, the medium stated.

Deep divisions and a lack of trust are not new for the WTO, which requires consensus agreement among all 164 members to finalise multilateral accords.

The organisation’s rigid negotiating structure and disparate interests of its diverse membership have precluded the organisation from delivering anything substantial for the better part of the past decade.

Last year, Okonjo-Iweala’s predecessor — Roberto Azevedo — cited the lack of progress at the WTO as his primary reason for resigning from the organisation a year before his tenure was scheduled to end, according to Bloomberg News. `

Some Geneva trade officials told the medium that they suspect Okonjo-Iweala wants to run in the 2023 presidential election in her native country of Nigeria.

Okonjo-Iweala didn’t comment about her threats to resign but denied any interest in running for the Nigerian presidency, calling such speculation “utterly ridiculous and not true” in a statement to Bloomberg News.

“I just got here. I am enjoying what I’m doing,” she told Bloomberg News in a television interview. “It is a very exciting job and I am trying to have some successes here.

The true test of Okonjo-Iweala’s leadership will come in November, when she hosts the WTO’s 12th ministerial conference — a gathering of the organisation’s highest decision-making body, Bloomberg states; noting that, to date, WTO members have failed to make significant headway on the three priority areas Okonjo-Iweala identified for potential outcomes at the biennial meeting.

“I chaired a 21-man committee set up to draft a legal framework for the outfit. The committee was composed of members of the Southeast Security Committee, the attorney-generals of the five Southeast states and some prominent Igbo sons and daughters…

“On 11th April 2021, Southeast governors announced the formation of Ebube Agu in Owerri.

“At this juncture that Ebube Agu will soon come fully on-stream, I respectfully request that your excellencies kindly permit me to resign my appointment as the chairman, Southeast Security Committee.

“In the spirit of my love to serve Ndigbo, I can assure you that I will always be available to advise on the success of Ebube Agu at no cost, just as I served as the Chairman of Southeast Security Committee from 31 August 2019 till date at no cost directly or indirectly to the five Southeast state governments, groups and individuals.

Afenifere demands Buhari’s resignation over failure to end insecurity

The Pan Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, on Tuesday, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign over his administration’s inability to address insecurity and economic challenges confronting the country.

The group said this is the best time for President Buhari to resign honourably.

Speaking during the 95th birthday of the leader of the group and the dedication of a church in honour of Chief Reuben Fasonrati, in Iju/Itaogbolu in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, the Acting leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, said the Buhari-led government had incapacitated the country and had failed to address the increasing wave of insecurity and the downturn in the economy.

He said the president had failed the people of the country and there is no better time to leave but now, noting that Buhari’s government could no longer handle the situation.

Adebanjo said: “I have told them that in a better and civilised country, he should have gone long ago. “If he has self-respect, he should have gone because everything has failed.

“What is he presiding over? Is it over corruption, security, education?

“Law and order has broken down in the country for the past three years.

“It is only because Nigerians are over tolerance of despots that is why he is still there.”

He lambasted the youth for failing the country and said “the younger generation has failed the country.

He, however, expressed optimism that there is light at the end of the tunnel, saying “as a Christian, I still have hope.”

“If Nigerians are conscious of their right, and they know what to do but where is the demonstration in the country that Buhari government must go?”

The Bishop of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd. Simeon Borokini described Fasonrati as a rare breed who had etched his mark in the sand of time.

The state Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, also described Fasoranti as one of the best assets of the Yoruba nation and a hero of democracy who should be celebrated.

Akeredolu who was represented by his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, said “we gather here today to celebrate one of the best from the Yoruba nation.

“His selfless service stands him out and he remains one of the heroes of democracy in the country today.”

#PantamiResign: Nigerians call on Buhari’s minister to resign

Nigerians have launched a campaign against Isa Ali Pantami, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, calling for his resignation.

This is following unconfirmed allegations of Pantami’s ties with terrorist organizations such as the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Al-Qaeda operates as a network of Islamic extremists and Salafist jihadists.

Al-Qaeda’s long-term plans included the creation of a unified and global caliphate.

The organization was founded by Osama bin Laden, whose undisguised goal was to become a strong state under the banner of the caliphate.

Whereas, the Taliban or Taleban, who refer to themselves as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, are a Sunni Islamist movement and military organisation in Afghanistan currently waging war within that country.

Pantami is being accused of having extremist views similar to those of, and links with, Osama bin Laden, Al-Qaeda, the Taliban and other terrorist groups.

He was said to have one time praised Osama Bin Laden, describing him as a hero and a better Muslim than himself, according to a letter by Concerned Nigerians to the U.S. government.

“Those who express extremist views remain a threat to world peace as they support mass murder of both Christians and Muslims globally,” the letter reads in part.

This has fuelled the call for Pantami to resign with the fears that terrorists do not repent, but only wait for opportunities to get close to power so they can strike harder.

Presidency cautions Nigerians calling for Buhari’s resignation

The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina has warned those calling for the resignation of the President.

Adesina said those calling for Buhari’s resignation due to the issue of insecurity in Nigeria were only exercising their freedom of speech, but such expression has its boundaries.

He made this statement on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today, while responding to a question on Nigerians asking for Buhari’s resignation.

According to Adesina: “Under a democracy, people have freedom of speech. You have freedom of speech although that freedom also has boundaries.

“There is no freedom that does not have boundaries. The freedom that does not have boundaries will even injure the person who is utilising that freedom.

“So, if anybody says that kind of thing under a democracy, it is allowed but when it is bent on causing chaos, that person may be asked to come and answer certain questions”.

TheNewsGuru recalls that the leader of INRI Evangelical spiritual church, Primate Elijah Ayodele had called on Buhari and every other known politician to resign.
