JAMB Glitch: Student who scored 153 due to UTME error scores 361

A student who initially scored 153 in the error-plagued JAMB has now achieved an impressive 361.

Recall that earlier this month, the board had released its 2025 UTME results in which over 1.5 million of the students had scored below 200.

However, inconsistencies were found, leading to error being discovered that had affected the results of numerous students.

JAMB had scheduled a resit for the students which held a couple of days ago.

One of the candidates, Nwadike Chukwubikem Chidiebere, showed remarkable improvement.

According to education advocate Alex Onyia, he initially scored 153 but performed significantly better in the resit.

@YouthspireNG said: “Thank you for all you do, brother. During my jamb and post UTMR days, for two to three consecutive times, I scored the same thing repeatedly. Somehow, I knew that something was wrong. That was years ago because I have since grabbed two international masters on scholarship.”

@Tobi_Godsent said: “I am very happy for the efforts Mr Alex was able to have students resit the jamb exam, however there are many students having problems with scheduling of resit. Also, are there not possibility that this human error will not happen again in future.”

Result not available in paper format yet – JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has called on  Nigerians to be wary of candidates parading printed result slips, saying that the board  is not currently issuing result in paper format.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the spokesperson of JAMB made this known via a statement on Wednesday.

According to him, the information became necessary as some individuals were already circulating printed result slips on social media.

Benjamin said unlike last year, the results at the moment are not and cannot be found on the JAMB’s website.

He said,“The board, once again, wishes to state clearly that the only way to check the 2024 UTME result is to send UTMERESULT to 55019 or 66019, using the same phone used by the candidate in registering for the UTME. Ensure that the SIM is not on any bundle.

This is different from what obtained last year, hence, the results, at the moment, are not and cannot be found on the board’s website.

“Candidates are urged to follow the method specified above to obtain their results. They need not visit any cybercafe or patronise any third-party entity to check their result.

“The public is also advised to be wary of any candidate parading printed result slip as currently, the result is not on any paper format as being circulated on social media by some individuals.

“A reasonable number of candidates have checked their results as seen on our monitoring dashboard but for the few still struggling, please follow the right channel.”

JAMB on Monday announced the release of the 2024 UTME results.

The Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said the results of 64,624 out of the 1,904,189, who sat the examination, were withheld by the board and would be subjected to investigation.

Anambra Govt. investigates Ejikeme’s JAMB result

The Anambra Government has set up a panel of inquiry into the controversy trailing the highest scorer in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the Commissioner for Education, announced the setting up of the panel in a statement in Awka on Monday.

“A panel of inquiry has been set up to work with security agents to investigate the allegation of falsification of result levelled against Mmesoma Ejikeme, who had earlier been showcased in the social media as having scored the highest,” she said.

The commissioner described the controversy on the girl’s actual result as embarrassing, especially coming at a time Gov. Chukwuma Soludo was repositioning the education sector in Anambra.

It could be recalled that Ejikeme, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School Uruagu in Nnewi, had earlier been celebrated for emerging with the highest score of 362 in the 2023 UTME, a result described by JAMB as fake.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said in a statement on Sunday that Ejikeme inflated her actual result from 249 to 362.

Meanwhile, the state government has hailed Nkechinyere Umeh who was declared by JAMB as the highest scorer nationwide with a cumulative mark of 360 in the 2023 UTME.

  • WAEC releases 2023 first batch of results

WAEC releases 2023 first batch of results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), on Friday, released the result of the first series of its 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) organised for private candidates.

The examination was held between January and February, with a total of 8,348 candidates participated across 262 exam centres nationwide.

The Head of the National Office of WAEC, Nigeria, Mr Patrick Areghan, announced the release of the result in a statement made available by the head of public affairs department of the organisation, Mrs Moyosola Adesina.

According to him, only 2,003 candidates (representing 23.99%) out of the total 8,348 who sat the exam obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

“And out of this number, only 971 (representing 48.48%) were male candidates while 1,032( representing 51.52%) were females,” he noted.

Areghan said the percentage of candidates who had this similar result in the same diet in 2021 and 2022 were 30.11% and 26.32%, respectively, a development that shows a marginal decrease of 2.33% in performance over the three years.

Areghan, however, pointed out that this general result cannot be compared with that of the May\June school-based diet for final year students because candidates in the latter exam are being compelled to sit for either eight or nine subjects while in this particular exam in focus, candidates are free to sit even for one subject depending on the number of subjects they have a deficiency and they need to pass.

“That is why it is not correct or fair to say that the performance in this examination has dwindled when compared with the school-based exam,” he declared.

Giving further statistics of the results, Areghan said 413 (representing 4.95%) of the total number of candidates who sat the examination still have their results being withheld over allegations of examination malpractice.

He said their cases are being investigated, and the outcome would be communicated to them as regards if their results would be released or cancelled.

He said 27 candidates with special needs including visually and hearing impaired and Albinos were also participated in the exam.

He, however, disclosed that candidates who sat the examination are now free to visit the council’s website as www.waecdirect.org to check their results while they would need to apply for their certificates online, through WAEC Certificate Request Portal (e-Certman) website given as https://certrequest.waec.ng/.

He commended all the members of staff of WAEC, exam officials, as well as the ad-hoc staff who participated in the exercise, saying their contributions were worthwhile

“These students and their parents are made to bear the financial burden to sit for the examinations the next year but when voted into power, “we will make JAMB results valid for four years.

“We will introduce a four-year moratorium for JAMB so that our children can use the same JAMB results to gain admission into our tertiary education institutions within this period,” he said.

The presidential candidate promised to make application forms for admission and employment free if elected president.

“We will upgrade and expand all our universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education and raise their standard to global competitiveness.

“My government will construct 500,000 classrooms across the federation, to accommodate the over 20 million out-of-school children.

“We will make all examinations such as WASC, NECO, NABTEB, NBIAS, JAMB among others free,” he said.

Kwankwaso said all the NNPP gubernatorial candidates of the North East region have the qualifications, capacity to provide good governance for the people of the region.

Governorship candidates that received flags included Saadu Tahir Adamawa, Sen. Haliru Jika Bauchi, Dr Umar Alkali Borno, Mohammed Mailantarki, Gombe,Yahaya Sani, Taraba, and Umar Alhaji Yobe States.

Also Speaking, NNPP Governorship candidate in Bauchi state, Sen. Jika, urged his supporters to remain focused and come out en masse and vote for NPPP from top to bottom.
