After by-elections, INEC begins continuous voters registration today

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of its Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, beginning today.

In a statement released via its official Twitter handle on Monday, the commission announced that the online pre-registration phase has begun. Eligible Nigerians can now log on to www.cvr.inecnigeria.org to begin the process ahead of the physical exercise.

According to INEC, physical registration will commence on Monday, August 25, 2025, nationwide.

The commission explained that in-person registration would take place in all its 37 state offices and 774 local government area offices nationwide, to ensure accessibility for prospective voters.

It further stated, “The CVR exercise is open to new voters aged 18 and above, those who wish to collect or transfer their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and individuals who need to replace lost or damaged PVCs.”

INEC, however, cautioned against engaging in multiple registrations, stressing that offenders risk sanctions.

The electoral body urged Nigerians to seize the opportunity, noting that voter registration is a vital step toward strengthening democratic participation.

The commission advised the public to reach out via its call centre on 0700-CALL-INEC (0700-2255-4632) or through its short code 4632 for inquiries.

INEC also reassured Nigerians of its dedication to deepening democracy, noting that every eligible voter will have the opportunity to register ahead of the upcoming elections.

  • BREAKING! WAEC reviews 2025 WAEC due to mass failure

BREAKING! WAEC reviews 2025 WAEC due to mass failure

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has said it is reviewing the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results due to complaints of mass failure, particularly in core subjects.

In a statement released Thursday by the Council’s Public Affairs Department, WAEC confirmed that an internal audit revealed technical anomalies affecting the results of key subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.

The Council attributed the issue to a system malfunction linked to a new security feature recently implemented to combat examination malpractice.

“WAEC sincerely regrets to inform the general public of technical issues discovered during the internal review of the recently released results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, (SC) 2025,” the statement read.

The Council disclosed that the anomalies were due to a newly introduced anti-malpractice measure involving paper serialisation, a method that randomises question arrangements across candidates’ scripts.

The practice, already in use by other national examination bodies, was meant to enhance exam integrity but inadvertently contributed to result distortions.

“As part of our efforts to curb examination malpractice, the Council embarked on an innovation (paper serialisation) already deployed by a national examination body,” the statement explained. “It is also worth noting that this is in line with best practices in assessment. The paper serialisation was carried out in Mathematics, English Language, Biology and Economics.

However, an internal post result release procedure revealed some technical bugs in the results.”

As a corrective measure, WAEC has temporarily suspended access to the result-checking portal while it works to address the glitches.

The Council has urged candidates who had previously checked their results to revisit the portal after 24 hours for the updated outcome.

The Council, being a responsive body that is sensitive to fairness and professionalism, has decided to urgently review and correct the technical glitches that led to the situation,” it said. “As a result, access to the WASSCE (SC) 2025 results has been temporarily denied on the result checker portal.”

“We extend our deep and sincere apologies to all affected candidates and the general public. We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter with transparency and urgency within the next twenty-four (24) hours,” the statement added.

  • WAEC releases 2024 WASSCE private candidates’ results

WAEC releases 2024 WASSCE private candidates’ results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, second series.

A total of 2,577 candidates had their results withheld due to allegations of examination malpractice. This was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by WAEC’s Acting Public Affairs Officer, Mrs Moyosola Adesina.

According to Adesina, 65,023 candidates sat for the examination in Nigeria between Oct. 25 and Dec. 20, 2024 at various centres across the country.

She revealed that 34,878 candidates, representing 53.64 per cent, obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

Candidates have been advised to check their results at www.waecdirect.org before accessing digital copies of their certificates at www.waec.org.

Those whose results were withheld should visit the WAEC Notice of Examination Malpractice Portal (https://waecinternational.org/complaints) to respond to allegations against them.

“Reported cases will be investigated, including evidence gathered and candidates’ representations submitted. Findings will be reviewed by the Council’s relevant Committee for a final decision.

“The Committee’s decisions will be communicated directly to the affected candidates,” Adesina stated.

She noted that 16,886 (48.41 per cent) of the successful candidates were male, while 17,992 (51.58 per cent) were female.

According to her, in the 2022 and 2023 second series, 42.16 per cent and 44.29 per cent of candidates, respectively, obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics.

“This year’s result reflects a 9.35 per cent increase in performance in that category. However, the data cannot be directly compared to WASSCE for school candidates.

“School candidates must sit for eight or nine subjects, whereas private candidates have the flexibility to register for as many or as few subjects as they need.

“Out of all candidates who sat the exam, 62,354 (95.90 per cent) had their results fully processed and released.

“Meanwhile, 2,669 candidates (4.10 per cent) have some subjects still being processed due to errors attributed to them.

“Efforts are ongoing to complete processing and ensure the affected candidates receive their results as soon as possible,” Adesina said.

She noted that statistical analysis shows that 43,923 candidates (67.55 per cent) obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, regardless of English Language or Mathematics.

NAN reports that examiners marked candidates’ scripts at five centres in Lagos, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu, and Kaduna between Jan. 15 and Feb. 4.

Also, a total of 3,327 examiners participated in the coordination and marking exercise.

“For the first time, the 2024 second series of WASSCE for private candidates was conducted in two modes, aligning with best practices and WAEC’s pursuit of excellence,” Adesina noted.

She said candidates had the option to sit for the examination using either the traditional paper-and-pen format or a computer-based hybrid mode, depending on their choice during registration.

  • Tinubu appraises self, says, my decision to remove fuel subsidy is yielding positive results

Tinubu appraises self, says, my decision to remove fuel subsidy is yielding positive results

President Bola Tiunbu has said that the removal of the oil subsidy by his administration was not to torment Nigerians but to save the country from total collapse.

Recall the president announced the subsidy removal on the day of his inauguration on May 29, 2023, noted that the policy had been yielding positive results for the country.

Tinubu stated this in his address at the 34th and 35th combined convocation ceremonies of the Federal University of Technology Akure Ondo State at the weekend.

Represented by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof Wahab Egbewole, the president said his administration was not unaware of the suffering of the people but expressed assurance that there would be light at the end of the tunnel.

Tinubu said, “As you are all aware, we took the baton of authority at a time when our economy was nose-diving as a result of heavy debts from fuel and dollar subsidies. The subsidies were meant to support the poor and make life better for all Nigerians.

“We are all aware of the fact that the poor and average Nigerians were the sufferers of what was supposed to give them succour and improved standard of living. Unfortunately, the good life we thought we were living was a fake one that was capable of leading the country to a total collapse unless drastic efforts were urgently taken.

“The need to salvage the future of our children and bring the country back from the brink of collapse necessitated the strategic decisions to remove the fuel subsidy and also unify the exchange rates. I am not unaware of the consequences of the tough decisions on our people.”

Stressing that the policy has been fruitful, Tinubu stated, “The macro-economy of our dear country is improving by the day and beyond expectations. The micro-economy, which directly affects our citizens, is also taking shape gradually with positive results. We are now graduating from consumption to production economy in every facet of our human endeavours. By the grace of the Almighty God, every household will experience a better life and have brighter hope for the future.

“The present challenges call for a high degree of patriotism and I can assure all Nigerians that there is light at the end of the tunnel. After rain comes sunshine. The brighter days are almost here. The Renewed Hope Agenda is on track, and we shall not deviate on the path of a better and greater Nigeria.

It is in the light of the foregoing that I am glad to inform you that the results of the policies are already yielding the expected results,” he maintained.

The president admonished the graduating students to join hands together to recover “our lost glory and virtues.”

He condemned the exodus of youths to overseas countries in search of greener pastures, saying such action was not the solution to the country’s problem.

“Many of our youths have chosen the supposed easy option of emigrating to the proverbial greener pastures where their citizens had rolled up their sleeves to bring their nations back from the brinks in their times of trouble. Such inclination has led to the brain drain syndrome that we now experience in all areas of our endeavours as a nation.

“Our intellectuals and experts on whom the nation has massively invested huge resources to train in the interest of our country are migrating overseas in large numbers at a time when their services are most required at home. It is heart-rending, and the syndrome is not the solution to our problems. We are not Nigerians by accident, and I believe that the Almighty God who made us Nigerians has given us the required wisdom to turn things around for our betterment, “President Tinubu said.

  • Edo election: INEC warns against distruption of results collation process

Edo election: INEC warns against distruption of results collation process

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned political actors against the disruption of Edo governorship election results collation process.

Mohammed Haruna, INEC National Commissioner and Member, Information and Voter Education Committee, gave the warning in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

Haruna said that INEC  was disturbed by reports of a threat resulting to stampede at its office in Okpoba Okha Local Government on Saturday, as well as action of some political actors at its head office in the state.

He said that following the conclusion of voting yesterday, the Commission activated the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal and uploaded the Polling Unit results, and the same results had also been collated from all the 192 wards.

Haruna said that similarly, collation the had been concluded in most of the local government areas and the designated officials were already at the collation centre in Benin City or on their way.

“We are set to commence state-level collation.

“However, the Commission received a deeply disturbing report from our Resident Electoral Commissioner of a threat to our office in Okpoba Okha on Saturday, resulting in a stampede in which one of our officials was injured.

“We are similarly disturbed by the overnight presence and demonstrations by some political actors and their supporters at our State Head Office ahead of the commencement of final collation.

“ These actions are uncalled for. Nobody should disrupt the process at any stage and no one will be allowed to benefit from lawlessness.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the collation of result will proceed as provided by the Electoral Act 2022 and our regulations and guidelines for the conduct of elections,” he said

The national commissioner said that there was a mechanism for redressing complaints during collation, including the power to review results declared under duress.

Haruna said that the Commission would not hesitate to invoke such powers where necessary.

He said that accredited party agents, observers and the media should be granted unimpeded access to all collation centres.

He called on the security agencies to continue to maintain the same vigilance and professionalism that led to the peaceful conduct of the election as we conclude the process.

  • Edo Poll: Disregard fake election results, APC tells electorate

Edo Poll: Disregard fake election results, APC tells electorate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has charged Edo electorate to disregard election results in circulation as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was still collating results.

Mr Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary gave the advice, in a statement, on Saturday in Abuja.

“The attention of the APC has been drawn to some reports circulating in sections of social media by certain political parties, peddling bogus figures of vote tallies in the ongoing Edo Gubernatorial Election.

“We urge the Edo electorate and the general public to disregard these bogus and highly speculative reports.

“Our great party wishes to clarify that collation at the Ward level is still ongoing and has yet to be concluded.

“Certainly, Local Government level collation has yet to begin in most of the Local Government Areas in the state let alone concluded,” the APC spokesman said.

He explained that consistent with the Electoral Act, INEC was the sole authorised body empowered to collate results at Ward, Local Government and State levels, and to officially declare the election results

Morka said the APC was comfortably in an early lead, but would not attempt to preempt INEC’s conclusion of the election process and official declaration of final results.

He urged members of the public to disregard attempted misrepresentation and await INEC’s final verdict on the election.
