  • Rihanna knock down Elton John, Ed Sheeran on UK music rich list

Rihanna Fenty has toppled music moguls like Mick Jagger, Elton John and Ed Sheeran on a UK rich list, less than a year after she moved to London.

The Barbadian songstress, who last unveiled an album in 2016, made the top-three of Sunday Times’ music rich list with an estimated £468m fortune, having moved to the UK in May 2019.

Rihanna, 32, was, however, toppled by Andrew Lloyd Webber (composer) and Paul McCartney (singer-songwriter), both of whom were joined first with fortunes of £800m per capita.

It is believed that Rihanna’s wealth was boosted by the success of her Fenty cosmetics brand and other partnerships such as her lingerie line alongside the record sales from her eight albums.

See part of the list below:

    • Lord Lloyd-Webber— £800m, down £20m
    • Sir Paul McCartney— £800m, up £50m
    • Rihanna— £468m, new
    • Sir Elton John — £360m, up £40m
    • Sir Mick Jagger— £285m, up £10m
    • Olivia and Dhani Harrison— £270m, up £20m
    • Keith Richards— £270m, up £10m
    • Sir Ringo Starr — £260m, up £20m
    • Michael Flatley— £206m, up £2m
    • Ed Sheeran— £200m, up £40m
    • Sir Rod Stewart— £200m, up £10m
    • Sting — £200m, no change

Sunday Times Rich List details the wealth of the 1,000 richest people in Britain.

Robert Watts, its compiler, said Rihanna’s inclusion marks a “seismic change” taking place at the top of the list in recent years as those with inherited wealth are usurped by younger self-made stars.

“If you look through the yellowing pages of the first list in 1989, it looks like a rogues’ gallery of middle-aged and elderly white men,” he said.

“It was earls, dukes, and figures from manufacturing and finance. Now money is being made in different ways, and by all sorts of different people – like Rihanna.

“The cancellations of tours and the pulling of albums (due to COVID-19) mean it will be a thin year.

“We expect most artists’ earnings to flatline but not for them to necessarily lose money because the bulk of their wealth is already earned and safely in their bank accounts.”

  • Rihanna debuts on Sunday Times Rich List of musicians

Singer Rihanna has stormed into the Sunday Times Rich List of musicians at number three, with an estimated wealth of 468 million pounds ($576 million), thanks partly to the success of her fashion and cosmetics brands with Louis Vuitton-owner LVMH.

Barbados-born Rihanna, 32, now based in London, leapfrogged some of Britain’s most famous musicians such as Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, Elton John and Rod Stewart into the list of the country’s most wealthy.

Hit musical composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and former Beatle Paul McCartney jointly top the list with some £800 million each.

Known for her daring, colourful looks on the red carpet, Rihanna has become an increasingly influential force in the fashion world as well as having eight hit album.

“Rihanna typifies the seismic change we’ve seen in the Rich List in recent years.

“Once dominated by inherited wealth, the bulk of our 1,000 entries are now self-made people with modest and even troubled starts in life who are driven to work exceptionally hard,” said Robert Watts, compiler of the list.

Ed Sheeran tops the ranks of Britain’s richest young musicians (aged 30 or under) with a fortune of £200 million.

“Touring remains the big earner for many of the stadium-filling acts on our musicians’ list,” Watts said.

“But the Covid outbreak has wrecked concert plans and so we expect the wealth of many of these musicians will flatline over the coming year.”

She also talked about the album as “reggae-inspired or reggae-infused,” adding that it would be different from what fans have been used to.

“It’s not gonna be typical of what you know as reggae but you’re going to feel the elements in all of the tracks” she said.

“Reggae always feels right to me. It’s in my blood. It doesn’t matter how far or long removed I am from that culture, or my environment that I grew up in; it never leaves. It’s always the same high.

“Even though I’ve explored other genres of music, it was time to go back to something that I haven’t really homed in on completely for a body of work.”

  • Rihanna’s anticipated documentary sells for $25m to Amazon

Amazon, an American multinational tech company, has procured global rights to Peter Berg’s documentary about Rihanna, a Barbadian R&B star, for $25 million.

The firm, which specializes in cloud computing, digital streaming, e-commerce, and artificial intelligence, purchased the project shortly after Apple’s similar $25 million deal with Billie Eilish, a US songwriter.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the project would offer “an unfiltered look” into Rihanna’s life” and provide a glimpse into her evolution as one of the world’s most well-known pop artists in a video spanning more than 1,200 hours.

Recounting the experience working on the project, Berg was quoted to have said, “To go travel with Rihanna around Europe, and Rihanna is surrounded by girls. We were in France. She was going to do a concert on Bastille Day.

“And that truck driver who killed all those people plowed through them right in front of our hotel. So even in me trying to do something light, I had a very, very front-row seat to something that horrific.”

The American producer’s forthcoming project with Rihanna would be coming after the duo had previouslywork on Universal’s ‘Battleship’, a military science fiction action film that is loosely based on the board game of the same name.

  • Rihanna is World’s Richest Female Musician – Forbes

“Work, work, work, work, work, work.” That’s the opening line of Rihanna’s 2016 dancehall anthem titled, appropriately, “Work.” It could also serve as her personal motto.

Famous first as a singer, Robyn Rihanna Fenty, age 31, has since evolved into a style icon and makeup entrepreneur—and soon she’ll be the first black woman in charge of a major luxury fashion house. All those efforts add up to a $600 million fortune, making her the wealthiest female musician in the world, ahead of the likes of Madonna ($570 million), Céline Dion ($450 million) and Beyoncé ($400 million).

Most of that comes not from music but from her partnership with LVMH, the French luxury goods giant run by billionaire Bernard Arnault. Rihanna (pronounced Ri-Ann-ah, not Ri-Ah-nah as she recently clarified) and LVMH co-own the makeup brand Fenty Beauty.

It launched in September 2017 at Sephora, another LVMH brand, and online at FentyBeauty.com, quickly becoming a viral success. Fenty Beauty racked up a reported $100 million in sales in its first few weeks, propelled by Rihanna’s fame and 71 million Instagram followers.

The entire personal care industry in America has grown huge in recent years. According to Grand View Research, it could swell to more than $200 billion in sales by 2025, up from closer to $130 billion in 2016. The market saw a record 134 M&A deals last year, including P&G’s $250 million purchase of 10-year-old First Aid Beauty.

Perhaps the most telling data point: 11 of the 80 women on Forbes‘ list of the Richest Self-Made Women made their money in beauty or skincare products. Many did what Rihanna did, turn to the low-cost marketing opportunity presented by social media. That works best for existing celebrities, as Kylie Jenner and her Kylie Cosmetics proved out, who can push their new products at their existing followers.

Fenty Beauty has differentiated itself in another way, releasing 40 shades of foundation, far more than the handful of hues sold by other brands. “It challenged the standard convention that you only needed a very defined set of shades to satisfy a market,” says Stephanie Wissink, a research analyst at Jefferies. “Not only did [Fenty Beauty] achieve meaningful sales, but it potentially changed the industry permanently.”

Sales continue to soar. Fenty Beauty generated an estimated $570 million in revenue last year, after only 15 months in business. The entire operation is worth, conservatively, more than $3 billion. Forbes estimates that LVMH owns an estimated 50% of it, while Rihanna has about 15%, a figure a spokesperson for the artist disputed but wouldn’t clarify further.

The Barbados native, who overcame hardships including an abusive addict father and a well-publicized assault by then-boyfriend Chris Brown in 2009, also co-owns the Savage X Fenty lingerie line with Los Angeles-based online fashion firm TechStyle Fashion Group and has millions in earnings from her career touring and releasing as a singer, which make up the rest of her fortune.

Her empire continues to grow. In May, LVMH and Rihanna announced Fenty, a new clothing house that will make high-end clothes, shoes, accessories and jewelry.

“They extended the offer to me and it was a no-brainer because LVMH is a machine,” Rihanna told The New York Times Style Magazine. “Bernard Arnault was so enthusiastic; he trusted me and my vision.”

The fashion line, which launched online in May, includes sizes up to U.S. 14, embodying the same inclusive ideal of Fenty Beauty. It will exist under the same umbrella as famous brands such as Dior and Givenchy, marking LVMH’s first new house in more than 30 years.

“What Fenty Beauty did to beauty, Fenty lifestyle is going to do to fashion,” says Wissink. “It’s going to raise the bar for what it looks like to build a brand that’s inclusive, game changing, global and iconic.”

  • Trouble looms as Rihanna sues dad over stealing Fenty brand name

Trouble looms as Rihanna sues dad over stealing Fenty brand name

Renowned songstress , Rihanna has sued her dad, Ronald Fenty for stealing her Fenty brand name to launch a business for himself.

In a new lawsuit — obtained by TMZ — Rihanna claims her father, Ronald Fenty, recently started a talent development company in 2017 called Fenty Entertainment. The problem … Rihanna has already trademarked “Fenty” to use in a number of biz ventures, including her well-known Fenty Beauty line. She claims he’s profiting off the reputation she’s created with Fenty.

According to the documents, Rihanna alleges that her father and a business partner falsely advertised themselves as her reps to solicit millions of dollars, including trying to book her for 15 shows in Latin America in December 2017 for $15 million … all without her authorization.

Rihanna claims later that her dad even unsuccessfully tried to file a trademark for “Fenty” to use with resort boutique hotels.

She says she’s sent multiple cease and desist letters to her father, ordering him to stop capitalizing off her Fenty trademarks, but says he’s ignored them and continued to make money off Fenty Entertainment.

She’s asking a judge to place an injunction on her dad using the name Fenty
