This is the time to give out seized food items to poor Nigerians- RMD to customs

Richard Mofe-Damijo, veteran actor has urged the Nigeria Customs Services (NCS) to give out seized food items in its custody to help the poor amid the countrywide lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Sitting here wondering if this wont be a good time for government to ask Customs about all the plenty seized rice, tomato, vegetable oil and all the other food items they have in their possession and give out to our people in need,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Whilst thanking them for reduced fuel prices at this time (inject smiley face)and all the other efforts so far, food is a major part of this lock down.

“I know sometimes the agencies of government don’t work as a team but please this is the time for customs to step and tell us how much relief they can bring to Nigerians. #giveoutseizedfooditems

Nigerian filmmaker slams RMD, Omoni Oboli

Revered role interpreters, Richard Mofe-Damijo and Omoni Oboli have been criticized by filmmaker and director, Kesiena Obue.

Obue, a respected filmmaker has big credits to her name as scriptwriter behind works such as Bling Lagosians and other flicks.

Obue recently averred that RMD and Omoni Oboli are not dynamic in the way they interpret their roles in movies.

“Characterization is suffering in Nollywood. We lack diversity in characters. Majority of our characters are the same. Handsome man, pretty, sexy babe; stereotypical and flat. No depth. A lot of Nollywood actors approach different characters the same way. Same mannerism, same vocal pattern, same gait, same accent, same physicality, same emotional delivery. Same everything. They go as they are. No difference between their real life selves and the characters they play.

    KESIENA OBUE

“RMD uses the same unhurried, guttural vocal pattern for all his characters. Omoni wears the same honey brown contact lens for all her characters. How and why? A lot of our actors do not put careful and deliberate thought into putting some degree of radical difference in the physicality, emotional experience and delivery of their characters. We are not all the same in this life. Our experiences are different and they shape our external and internal qualities. Same as the characters you play so you cannot afford to play them in the same manner.”

“Actors need to discover the physical qualities of their characters; Mannerism, physicality, posture/gait, vocal pattern, behavioural norms, culture… the internal qualities; Thoughts, feelings, motivation, internal truth. Once you know these things, you will be able to convincingly delineate your character and deliver a performance that will resonate and linger. Dear Actor, give your character a soul. Once you discover the very thing that lies deep within that character, you will feel different in your body, soul, approach and delivery,” she advises young actors.

  • Why I want to ‘play’ God- Richard Mofe Damijo

I have played the devil in another film, ‘Made in Heaven.’ I missed the chance to play God recently, so but I want to play God, I want to play God. I played I think I played the president. I want to play God. Yeah. I just want to play God, I want to play God’s character. It’s funny, but since I watched ‘Oh my God by this old actor and then when I saw Amitabh Bachchan, the Indian actor in (God Tussi Great Ho), now that I have some grays, so by the time I’m probably 60 something and the greys are little bit greyer, like snow white, I would probably get a role to play God or I write one myself,” he told Pulse.

RMD also stated his reason for not appearing in just any Nollywood flick. He added that it is not about the number of films, but the quality of films that you do.

“In the prolific period of Nollywood as it were, I didn’t jump on every bandwagon or on every film that came my way. I’ve always tried to be very selective about the kind of films I did. And in a lot in a lot of ways I feel very blessed that you know, my, my little body of work can kind of compare with any other person’s body of work. For me, it is not about the number of films you do, but the quality of the films that you do. I didn’t see a lot of films that I did at that time,”

He wrote: ”The thing about getting older is that with each passing day you know yourself better, find your voice more and generally become better aware. It’s been 58, years of stumbles, falls, wrong turns, dreadful mistakes and errors but in all, they have been 58, remarkable years of God’s consistent grace and mercies.
“If after all these years I am afraid to speak the truth irrespective of whose ox is gored, then I have failed, which is why I have never been prouder of being Nigerian than I am now because Nigerians have given me the best birthday week, ever. It’s been a harvest of protests that have brought positive results.
“ It indeed gives me hope that even though a lot of young people in this generation are misinformed, misguided and scaringly shallow, a lot more have their heads in the right places and I am optimistic that it can only get better, so as I reflect on my years, I pray that Proverbs chapter 31, verses 8 and 9 will guide the remaining years of my life, Amen”.

@James: I hate people who think like this. So we should hate him because he refused to help an actor in 2014, but helped another in 2018. Oga go and sleep.
