    How RMD Inspires Ali Baba

In a time where young entertainers are ignoring the wisdom of their forerunners, ace comedian Ali Baba has poured encomiums on one of Nigeria’s leading actors, Richard Mofe Damijo who continues to reinvent himself as a revered actor.

Ali Baba took to his Instagram page sharing 20 things he has learnt from RMD over the years. He began by asking a series of questions.

“”What makes you relevant? What gives you that consistency that keeps you in reckoning in an industry where your career is a time capsule that can be swallowed up by generational shifts? How do you go away from an industry for 8 years, come back into the industry and continue like you never left? How do you own a space and only you can fill it? What is it that some are not doing right, even though they are busy in the industry? What are those things that hinder your relevance in an unforgiving atmosphere where you slip and your career goes to sleep?”

The Nigerian king of comedy later outlined 20 things he has learnt from RMD

Hear him:”These are a few things I have learnt from this man @mofedamijo. It would take an hour to teach but let me mention some. 1. Know yourself. 2. Identify your strengths. 3. Reduce your weaknesses. 4. Understand the industry and know where the bodies are buried. 5. Continuously improve you. 6. Talent is not enough. 7. Be a good person. 8. Be dynamic. A stagnant river is as good as a dry well. 9. Apply your talents in every way you can. 10. Take care of you. 11. Put your best in anything you do. 12. Be soooooo loved for the things you do so well and when you falter, those value propositions will stand in for your failings. 13. Be sooooooo good that you inspire your competition. Be their target to surpass. 14. Let your work speak for you. 15. Be ready to share your experiences with protégés so that they can add what you know to what they know and be better -Amaka Igwe 16. Be as real as they come. 17. Build lasting relationships. Network and connect with people and institutions that will enhance your value. 18. Cut off people who don’t add value. 19. Opportunities don’t knock anymore. If it doesn’t knock, book an appointment. If opportunity is busy, gate crash. 20. Make sacrifices. With these few points of mine, I present the man #RMD… living legend” he said.

Richard Mofe Damijo to kick off mentorship series

Veteran actor, Richard Mofe Damijo has revealed that there are plans underway for his Richard Mofe Damijo Mentorship Series. He believes this generation needs to be inspired, influenced and impacted

The Weddding Party actor wrote:”Being the only child of a hardworking, dignified business woman put a lot of pressure, not only on me but on her as well. She wanted me to succeed and have a distinguished professional title like “Lawyer”, “Banker”, even “Lecturer” but having their child study to become an “Actor” in the 70’s was not something most parents wanted to hear, so imagine how difficult it was convincing “Mama Rich” to let me study Theatre Arts.

I remember my strongest possible argument at that time was that she would be “seeing me on TV”.

“Theatre Arts was not a course I studied because I couldn’t get into any other department. It is a dream, a passion, a drive, a calling. As a young theatre arts enthusiast in the early 80’s, my heroes were the Wole Soyinka’s, Ola Rotimi’s, Femi Osofisan’s, J.P Clark’s and university lecturers which is why till date, I am not driven or motivated by money.

“Many people do not understand how after serving as a commissioner in Delta State, I did not begin a wealth “acquisition career” in government, rather, I returned to acting. Well, the answer is simple: It’s because I was inspired, moulded and influenced by thelecturer types who were satisfied with their humble but dignified livelihoods of teaching and living within the university campus. The Richard Mofe-Damijo Mentorship Series is finally here and I am hoping that in this generation, I would find one person who is inspired, influenced and motivated by intellect, integrity and dignity.Who is passionate about what he/she has chosen as their career or craft.”

In his words: “AY told me #10daysinsuncity but kept me there for, errrrr… come @aycomedian how many days una keep me there sef? On a more serious note, I respect the two men in this picture with me. @aycomedian for consistently making smart choices in the comedy movie business and @official2baba for being not just a talented artist but more importantly a humble and fine gentleman and let me dare say that #IStandWithNigeria and #IStandWithTubaba because you do not need a celebrity to give you voice or make you take a stand against issues that directly affect you.

“I’m not in Nigeria and if I were I probably would have been a part of the protest, not as a celebrity but as a Nigerian who is experiencing the same issues as every other Nigerian but hey, thankfully, I don’t need to be in the streets to register my protest, so again, MY NAME IS RICHARD MOFE-DAMIJO AND I STAND WITH NIGERIA.”
