  • Robert Lewandowski deal done for Genoa – Capozucca

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski was close to joining Serie A club Genoa before ultimately making the move to Borussia Dortmund.

The Poland international was in high demand after excelling for Lech Poznan between 2008-10 with Genoa agreeing a deal to sign the centre forward pending a medical.

But, according to former Genoa sporting director Stefano Capozucca, the club’s president Enrico Preziosi decided to cancel Lewandowski’s transfer, paving the way for a Bundesliga move.

“The deal was done for Lewandowski in 2010,” Capozucca told Radio Sportiva.

“[Gian Piero] Gasperini knew him well. He still had to undergo a medical, but then the President pulled the plug.”

  • Lewandowski donates 1m euro to fight coronavirus

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski and his wife Anna have contributed one million euros (£923,900) to fight coronavirus.

Team-mates Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich have also set up a fund called We Kick Corona to combat the pandemic and contributed one million euros between them.

Manchester City winger Leroy Sane also made a considerable financial donation.

“We are all aware of the difficult situation,” the Lewandowskis told Bild.

“Today we all play in a team. Let us be strong in this fight. If we can help someone, let’s do it.

“This situation affects every one of us, so we ask you to follow the instructions and listen to those who know best. Be responsible.”

We Kick Corona has raised more than 2.5m euros and charities and social institutions can apply for funds from the organisation on its website.

“Everyone can help, both in small and large ways,” said Kimmich.

“Only if we stand together now, show reason and responsibility and are there for each other can we make it out of this crisis.”

Bundesliga: Lewandowski double helps Bayern crush Cologne to go top

Bundesliga top scorer Robert Lewandowski scored twice to equal a 51-year-old record as champions Bayern Munich demolished Cologne 4-0 on Saturday to climb to the top spot of the standings.

Poland striker Lewandowski grabbed the first two goals.

And, after Cologne’s Kingsley Ehizibue was sent off, Philippe Coutinho converted a penalty to make it 3-0 and Ivan Perisic completed the rout with a low shot.

Lewandowski, who has been Bundesliga top scorer four times in the last six seasons, has now netted nine times in the opening five league matches.
He thus equalled a record set by Borussia Moenchengladbach’s Peter Mayer in the 1967-68 season.

Bayern are top on 11 points with RB Leipzig, on 10, facing Werder Bremen later on Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund, on nine, travel to Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.

  • Lewandowski scores hat-trick and 100th Bayern goal in huge win

Robert Lewandowski moved onto 100 Bundesliga goals for Bayern Munich with a hat-trick as the league leaders thrashed Hamburg.

After Franck Ribery had rounded the keeper to open the scoring, Lewandowski headed in his first of the game.

The Poland striker then slotted in to make it 3-0 before Arjen Robben struck from the edge of the box.

Ribery took on four players for his side’s fifth before Lewandowski scored a penalty.

Lewandowski had earlier missed from the spot – his first penalty miss for Bayern – but made amends soon after to complete his hat-trick.

Bayern have not lost since November, winning 16 of their last 17 games, and are now 20 points clear at the top of the table.
