Claudio Ranieri makes clear retirement decision

Roma coach Claudio Ranieri says he won’t go back on his decision to retire at the end of the season.

Ranieri will step down as Roma coach this summer and take a director’s post with the club.

After their 1-1 draw with Juventus on Sunday evening, Ranieri said: “I had already stopped last year, then some teams made me offers, but I said I could only get back on the pitch for Roma or Cagliari. I also hoped it wouldn’t happen, because if they called me then it would mean they were going through a rough time.

“When unfortunately Daniele De Rossi left, I thought I could stay calm with Ivan Juric in charge. I have been travelling the world for 35 years, yet I never get time to really see it. Before I die, I want to see what is out there beyond football. I think that’s fair.

“Big Ben is ticking on, and it says time is up.”

On Sunday’s draw, Ranieri also stated: “We knew that (Igor) Tudor would bring his mentality, determination and grit, so Juventus would be pushing forward with vertical passing. They didn’t surprise us, they just did it really well. Juventus are a great team and I would bet on them finishing in the top four.

“This is football, once we settled down and started getting out heads above the water, they scored the opening goal. We had created chances before that, but it was good that we equalised straight after the restart.

“Once you realise that you cannot win, it is important not to lose, so we got organised and took home the point.”

Roma owners release statement to explain De Rossi sack

AS Roma owners, Dan and Ryan Friedkin, have released a statement regarding the dismissal of former coach Daniele de Rossi.

De Rossi was sacked last Wednesday and replaced by Ivan Juric.

On the day an agreement had been reached by the Friedkin Group of an agreement to buy Everton, they released a statement to explain the departure of legend De Rossi:

“Football is admired around the world as the beautiful game. Each match is filled with passion, excitement and unpredictability – and that’s why we love it.

“But beyond the results on the pitch, our responsibility as club owners is to make big decisions that we believe are in the best interest of the club, even when they are very difficult to make.

“The transfer signings this summer marked the beginning of a strategic multi-year project designed to bring AS Roma back to the forefront of European football. As part of this vision, the development of a new stadium, which will honor the club’s deep history, is well underway.

“Let us say this; we have the utmost respect for Daniele and believe he will have a great career as a coach. Maybe even one day back at Roma. The decision to part ways with him was incredibly difficult, but we made it with the belief that it gives us the best opportunity to compete for trophies this season.

“We remain active investors in the sports industry. We love the beautiful game. The potential addition of Everton to our portfolio does not alter our focus on AS Roma. If anything, the multi-club symbiosis will only help Roma. Each club in our portfolio operates independently and AS Roma remains at the heart of our football ambitions. Rest assured, our commitment of time, resources, and energy to Roma will not be diminished. Our goal is clear – to see AS Roma consistently compete at the highest levels of European football.

“To our incredible fans, we acknowledge the immense responsibility we bear in leading this historic club. Your unwavering loyalty fuels us as we continue building for the future. We value your voices and want you to know — we hear you. You are the soul of this club, and we are determined to make you proud.

    “Forza Roma.

    “Dan and Ryan Friedkin”

Roma announced this morning the sacking of De Rossi just four games into the Serie A season.

Just last week, De Rossi’s former teammate and captain Totti admitted he could see problems emerging inside the club.

He stated:  “With certain crazy expenses, Roma must necessarily get to the Champions League. If you invest 100 million and don’t get there, it’s a total failure. And without it, Daniele (De Rossi) skips the game first, doesn’t get to the end.

“He’s the lightning rod. And the one who loses is him, but fortunately he knows everything and everyone. At this moment he’s the only one who can be a coach at Roma. But have you seen what they said to him after these first games? Last year is the past, they’ve already forgotten everything.

“It’s easy to forget, look what happened to me”.

  • Jose Mourinho regrets choosing Roma over Portugal

Jose Mourinho regrets choosing Roma over Portugal

Football manager Jose Mourinho admits he regrets choosing AS Roma over Portugal.

Sacked by Roma in January, Mourinho was offered the Portugal job last summer.

He told EA Korea: “Which national team would I coach? It’s normal, Portugal. I had the chance to go there twice, but they didn’t come at the right time for me. I got emotional when I didn’t accept the last offer, because I decided to stay with Roma and I think I made a mistake. Because now Portugal has a fantastic team, one of the best, I knew, but I felt a great connection with Roma, with the fans, so I didn’t want to take that decision.

“The Portugal opportunity has come twice, but I believe that a third will also come and I will take it, hoping that the generation I will have will be as strong as this one.”

Mourinho also said: “The two finals with Roma were the most difficult to reach, perhaps even the Europa League with Manchester United was very difficult because they were two teams that when I arrived were in a very difficult situation.

“Some coaches are perhaps smarter and more intelligent and therefore choose the right job with the ideal conditions to achieve success. I need to always work, feel that I am doing something and I am helping. Sometimes they are unfair because I can’t be expected to win trophies when my team isn’t the strongest.”

Jose Mourinho opens up on aims, objectives on new job

Former Roma of Italy coach, Jose Mourinho has revealed what he wants from his next job in management in his search for a new job.

The 61-year-old, who has been out of work since Roma sacked him in January, has been linked with clubs in the Saudi Pro League, but the Portuguese is eyeing a move to a European side.

Maurinho told Telegraph what he really wants.

According to him, targets and objectives have got to be fair by everyone.

“The only thing I want is that the targets and the objectives have to be established by everyone in a fair way. I cannot go to a club where, because of my history, the objective is to win the title. No. The only thing I want is that it has to be fair.

“What is important for me is if the club has objectives and for me to be able to say I am ready to fight for these. I don’t want to say realistic, but [at least] semi-realistic.

“Because when I went to Roma, nobody was dreaming about European Cup finals and we did it. It’s not possible I go to a club that is almost relegated and the objective is to win the Champions League. It’s good but it is not fair.”

Sacked Roma coach Jose Mourinho says he’ll never work with Tiago Pinto again.

Pinto left Roma as sporting director a month after Mourinho’s dismissal.

“Interviews with Mr Tiago Pinto, honestly, I won’t waste a second of my time reading or listening to it, I have no interest at all in what he has to say,” Mourinho said at the Portuguese MotoGP.

“What you say he tells me, it makes no difference. I have no interest at all.”

Asked if he’d work with Pinto again, he said: “No, certainly not. Sometimes things lead us to think they are possible, but in this case, it is definitely not possible.”
