Varane impressed at Molineux as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were forced to defend for long spells.

“I was very, very happy to be here and to help the team get this victory. The feeling is absolutely amazing,” he told the club website.

“The Premier League is very intense. The game it’s very fast and you know when you play this game, you are very concentrated and it’s very intense. I came here for that feeling.

Cristiano Ronaldo has completed his Manchester United medical in Lisbon.

Sky Sports says terms have been agreed on a two-year deal and United have also inserted a clause to extend the contract for a further season. They will pay around £20m to Juventus.

The final touches are being put on visa details before Ronaldo’s move to United is officially done and the Old Trafford outfit can unveil the Portugal star ahead of his second spell with the club.

Ronaldo is expected to have agreed terms on a £480,000-a-week deal at United, which will make him the Premier League’s highest-paid player.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he wants Cristiano Ronaldo ‘in the box and scoring goals’ for Manchester United.

The Red Devils announced on Friday that they had reached an agreement with Juventus to sign the 36-year-old superstar.

Asked by MUTV where Ronaldo would play, Solskjaer replied: “Cristiano has evolved as a player.

“He used to play wide right, wide left, up front but he’s more of a centre forward for me at the moment, definitely.

  • Ronaldo joining Man Utd as highest paid in EPL history

Ronaldo joining Man Utd as highest paid in EPL history

Manchester United are making Cristiano Ronaldo the highest paid player in Premier League history – and by some distance.

The Daily Mail says his sensational return to Manchester United will see him earn £480,000-a-week – making him the highest paid player in the Premier League.

The 36-year-old Juventus striker sealed a dramatic move back to United on Friday after he looked set to join rivals Manchester City just hours before.

Ronaldo’s staggering weekly wages eclipses City ace Kevin De Bruyne’s by almost £100,000, but it still pales in comparison to Lionel Mess and Neymar’s earnings at PSG.

After leaving cash-strapped Barcelona earlier this month, Messi agreed terms on a whooping £1million a week with to sign for PSG, dwarfing Ronaldo’s United deal.

Ronaldo will join United subject to a visa, a medical and agreeing personal terms on a deal worth £19.4m.

He could make his second debut for the club against Newcastle in a fortnight.

La Repubblica reports Guardiola told Ronaldo over the phone that ‘if you can come, we will try to live together. But I can’t guarantee you anything’.

  • What I told Ronaldo before Man United deal – Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United defender, has said that Sir Alex Ferguson would have hated to see Cristiano Ronaldo in a Manchester City shirt.

Ronaldo made a stunning return to Old Trafford on Friday after days of negotiations with Manchester City.

The 36-year-old had suddenly decided to leave Juventus, a club he joined from Real Madrid three seasons ago.

Ferdinand, a former England international, posted a video on the Twitter page of his fashion label, FIVE, which confirmed that he spoke to Ronaldo about a rumoured move to Manchester City, which looked to be on the cards on Thursday.

Ferdinand said: “Sir Alex Ferguson would have been exactly the same. He would have hated to see Cristiano in a Man City shirt, just like any other person that’s been connected for a long period of time at this football club.

During the press conference early on Friday, before news of United’s approach broke, Solskjaer said he was surprised the five-time Ballon d’Or winner wanted to bring his time in Italy to a close.

He added that Ronaldo had been spoken to by United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, his Portugal team-mate.

“I didn’t think Cristiano was going to turn out leaving Juventus,” Solskjaer said. “It’s been speculation this morning, speculation the last few days, of course.

“I know Bruno has been talking to him as well. He knows what we feel about him and if he was ever going to move away from Juventus, he knows that we’re here.”

United are lining up a two-year deal for Ronaldo and are planning for him to have a medical in Lisbon.

United then publicly signalled their interest in the Old Trafford legend when manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, at his Friday press conference, made it clear that he would welcome the 36-year-old five-time Ballon d’Or winner back.

“Ronaldo is a legend of the club, and the greatest player of all time, if you ask me,” said the United boss. “I didn’t think he’d leave Juventus. We’ve always had a good communication and I know Bruno (Fernandes) has been talking to him.

“He knows what we feel about him. If he was ever going to move away from Juventus, he knows we’re here.

“When you are Messi, Ronaldo, Pogba or Bruno, you have to read a lot about yourself. Let’s see what happens with Cristiano, because he is a legend of this club.

“I don’t want to speculate too much on Cristiano. We focus on the ones we have here. I’ve said many times, when you’re Man United or (Lionel) Messi, Ronaldo you read a lot about yourself.

“I was fortunate to play with him and coach him. Everyone who has played with him has a soft spot for him.”

Asked if he wanted another new player after signing Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane this summer, Solskjaer added: “Any manager is always looking for a little bit more.

“I have to say the transfer business we’ve done this summer, I’m happy with the numbers, quality and personalities we’ve brought in. They fit each other really well. You’re never comfortable as a manager, but the chemistry is there and I’m very happy with what we’ve done.”

Juve coach Allegri confirms Ronaldo exit

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri says Cristiano Ronaldo has told the club he “no longer has any intention” to play for the Italian side.

Ronaldo, 36, who has been linked with a move to Manchester City, has been left out of the squad to face Empoli on Saturday.

Juventus are yet to receive an official bid for the Portugal forward.

“[Ronaldo] gave his contribution, he made himself available, now he leaves and life goes on,” said Allegri.

On Wednesday, Juventus told Ronaldo they are willing to sell him during the transfer window – but only if their conditions are met by interested clubs.

Manchester City are one of the teams to have made contact with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes, with some reports suggesting

personal terms have already been agreed.

Allegri continued: “Yesterday, Cristiano told me that he no longer has any intention to play for Juventus. For this reason he will not be called up for tomorrow’s game.

“Things change, it’s a law of life. Juventus remains, which is the most important thing.

“He is to be thanked for what he has done, also as an example amongst the youngsters. But as I said, we must go on.”

A week ago, Allegri said Ronaldo had “never expressed a desire to leave” Juventus, and that the player had told him he was staying at the Allianz Stadium.

Ronaldo himself called media speculation about his future “a disrespect for me as a man and as a player” in a lengthy Instagram post a few days earlier.

The five-time Ballon d’or winner started on the bench on Sunday as Juventus drew their Serie A opener against Udinese.
