    Eleven people were killed when the roof of a school gym collapsed in North-east China, local media reported on Monday.

    All 15 people who were known to be inside the building had been accounted for.

    The accident occurred on Sunday in the city of Qiqihar in north-east China’s Heilongjiang province.

    Rescue work is still underway.

    According to the report, initial investigations revealed that workers had illegally stored perlite rock on the roof of the sports hall.

    When it rained, the material became saturated with water and gained weight, which probably led to the collapse of the roof.

    About seven people died and 10 others were injured on Monday after a roof of a mosque collapsed in Khairpur District of Pakistan’s southern Sindh Province, local media reports said.

    According to the reports, the incident took place in Ahmadpur area of the district due to torrential rains.

    The reports added that over 100 people, including women and children, got trapped under the debris.

    The rescue officials said the victims were sleeping in the mosque during the tragic incident.

    The victims were the local flood-affected people who have taken refuge in the mosque since their own houses were affected by the floods.

    The officials said rescue teams reached the site and shifted the victims to a local hospital.

    Heavy rains in the area over the last four days have resulted in multiple accidents.

    It was a dramatic sight at the National Assembly on Tuesday (today) following a torrential rainfall in Abuja.

    According eyewitness accounts, the rain had hardly started when the Chambers of the National Assembly began to leak profusely.

    According to reports, most affected was the foyer of the White House.

    Cleaners in the National Assembly were immediately deployed to place containers at the leaking spots to collect the flowing water into buckets.

    The cleaners were equally seen mopping and drying up the arena which was becoming flooded.

    Some Senators already in Chambers came out to have a view of the development.

    Most of them were seen discussing the incident.

    It will be recalled that the National Assembly had earlier earmarked N37billion in the 2021 budget for repair of the complex.

    The figure however generated uproar and condemnation from a wide spectrum of Nigerians who contended that the amount was too huge.

  • Roof collapses kills 8, injures 20 at wedding ceremony

    Eight people died while 20 others injured as roof collapsed at a wedding ceremony on Wednesday in Pakistan’s northwest Kurram Tribal District, local media reported.

    According to the reports, the roof collapsed at the wedding ceremony in Pewar area of Parachinar Region of Kurram, a tribal district in the country’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

    The deceased include six women and two children.

    Local people and rescuers pulled out the bodies and the injured from the rubbles and took them to the District Headquarter Hospital of Parachinar.

    A hospital official told the media that several people suffered serious injuries and they were under treatment.

    The official added that the majority of the wounded people were women and children who were inside two different rooms when the roof collapsed.
