2023: Struggle for Southern presidency must continue – Gov Akeredolu tells Amaechi

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, on Thursday declared that the struggle for the Southern part of the country to produce the next President must continue until it is realised.

Governor Akeredolu particularly urged the people to vote for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the spirit of fairness and equality.

The Governor explained that since President Muhammadu Buhari from the North is spending eight years, then it is the turn of the South to produce the next President for another eight years.

Governor Akeredolu spoke while playing host to former Minister of Transportation, Chief Rotimi Amaechi at the Government House, Alagbaka, Akure.

Chief Rotimi Amaechi was in Akure for the Presentation of Staff of Office to Chief Olu Falae as Olu of Ilu Abo, in Akure North Local Government Area.

Arakunrin Akeredolu disclosed that no loyalist of the APC can forget the principal role of Amaechi as Director-General of the party’s Presidential campaign in 2015.

He appreciated the former minister for coming to Akure to honour Chief Falae, adding that the monarch has served Nigeria creditably well and the State is proud of him.

“Thank you for coming. Chief Falae has served this country creditably well, and we, in Ondo State, are very proud of him. He left from the Bank, he became the Minister for Finance and also served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation. So he has done his best and uptill now when he is less busy he will find time to advice us”, the Governor said.

Earlier, the former Minister of Transportation, Chief Rotimi Amaechi thanked Governor Akeredolu for recognizing and elevating Chief Olu Falae, describing him as one of the few Nigerian elites who is prominent, patriotic and had served Nigeria diligently.

“Because of my campaign for Presidency, I knew Chief Olu Falae. We visited his house in Akure. So I came to visit Chief Olu Falae whom you have kindly recognized with the Panel report”, he added.

Chief Amaechi lauded Governor Akeredolu for his leadership qualities and for always being at the fore front of good governance in the country.

How I spent 13% derivation refund – Gov Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has confirmed the receipt of 13 per cent oil derivation, subsidy and SURE-P refunds from the Federation Account in the last two years (2021-2022).

A statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, explained that the refunds received by the state were expended on capital projects and payment of accumulated salary arrears.

The statement also disassociated Governor Akeredolu from those alleged to have been stealing funds meant for the Local Governments from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

According to the statement, the refunds received from the Federal Government were judiciously expended on some key capital projects across the three senatorial districts of the state.

“Some of the impactful projects undertaken and completed by this administration include the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of the 32.6km Araromi-Alape road in Ilaje Local Government Area; 16.65km Ikaramu-Akunnu-chainnage 7-Oke Agbe Road in Akoko Northwest Local Government Area; 4.5km Agadagba Obon-New Ajapa Road in Ese-Odo Local Government Area; 3.0km Oke Igbo Township roads, Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area, among others.

“Recently, the Governor commenced the rehabilitation of over 35 kilometers network of roads in Akure, the state capital. The roads being rehabilitated are the existing ones built by past governments several years ago and which are already in bad shapes with potholes and failed sections. The 9.5km Emure- Iporo Road and rehabilitation of 15.2km Akure phase “D” road networks have all begun.

“The 10km Okitipupa-Igbokoda virgin road which will be commissioned by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is another evidence of Governor Akeredolu’s commitment to infrastructural development. These intensive capital projects are financed from these refunds and Internally Generated Revenue.

“The monthly FAAC receipts are devoted to the payment of salaries and pensions as agreed by Labour Leaders at the monthly meetings presided over by the Head of Service and Chairman of Joint Negotiating Council (JNC).

“Despite Governor Akeredolu’s vow to always pay salaries and pensions as and when due, the financial crisis across the country occasioned by the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic resulted in non-payment of salaries in full for some months. As at January 2022, Government was owing four months salary arrears as against seven months inherited.

“Governor Akeredolu, having promised the civil servants in the state to prioritise payment of salaries, has continued to clear these backlogs of arrears. On three occasions this year, Government has paid double salaries in a month, thereby reducing the number of arrears. All salaries will be cleared before the year ends.

“If the amount expended on these infrastructural projects and payment of salary arrears is juxtaposed with the refunds, it is crystal clear that the monies were not mismanaged in Ondo State.

“The administration of Governor Akeredolu stands on the tripod of Transparency, Accountability and Integrity. We will continue to hoist the flag of transparency in governance while pursuing excellence in the journey to transform the state for the better,” the statement said.

On the allegation that some Governors are stealing Local Government Funds, the statement noted that the Akeredolu administration has not touched funds meant for Local Governments since its inception.

“As a matter of policy, monies meant for Local Governments are shared at their monthly Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC). Mr Governor doesn’t touch local governments funds. The local government Chairmen can attest to the fact that they have total freedom in the management of their funds,” the statement added.

  • 2023: Tinubu-Shettima ticket is a coincidence – Gov Akeredolu

    2023: Tinubu-Shettima ticket is a coincidence – Gov Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has said the Muslim-Muslim ticket of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 presidential election is a coincidence.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Governor Akerdolu said this at the 40th Holy Ghost Convention Dinner of The Sword of the Spirit Ministries held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Agbawo, Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

Akeredolu, who is the Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, said this while advising that the struggle for the President of Nigeria to come from the Southern part of the country in 2023 should not be in vain.

Stressing that the North can not retain power after spending eight years in office, the Ondo State Governor explained how he led his colleagues in the Southern Governors’ Forum to demand a Southern Presidency despite stiff opposition from some quarters.

He called on the people not to throw away the chances of producing the next President, particularly from the Southwest where Tinubu hails from, the APC presidential candidate as the best choice, adding that he has the experience and courage to tackle the challenges facing the country.

On the Muslim/Muslim ticket, the Governor pleaded with Christians to look beyond religion and focus on the competency of the Presidential candidate. While stressing that the buck stops on the President’s table, the Governor added that what is important is to have a Southern President come 2023.

”I discussed with Bishop Francis Wale Oke that presidency must come to the South. Take it or leave it, it is the minimum we can get. It must come to the South. The North cannot produce President for eight years and still want to retain it for another eight years. It is not going to work.

“That is why under the Southern Governors’ Forum, where, luckily, God made me the chairman, we kept harmering on that. It must come to the South. And when it also got to our party in APC, we fought that it must come to the South.

“Luckily, it did not only come to South, it came to the South West. Now, where do we stand? I understand our feelings because I’m one of you. I am a Christian. All of us here are worried. What will be our gain, and that, why is my party, the APC throwing up a Muslim/Muslim ticket.

“It has been a real issue for all us. Even members of the party, it has been an issue for us. We have debated it, fought it and we have done so many things on it. I have always said to people, my fight was for Southern President.

“Now it has come to the South West, will I now throw the baby away with the bathwater? Can I, in all honesty, do it? Should I, in all honesty, do it?

“We call it a matter of coincidence. It is a matter of conscience. All of us are here, why don’t we look at it from one angle. The buck stops on the table of the President. Do we have a capable hand who can manage the affairs if given the opportunity? Do you have a man who is bold enough to challenge incursion into our land? That is it.

“All of us here have lived together for years and we didn’t allow religion to bring fight among us. We have Muslims in our families and there is no fight. We have many leaders in Yoruba land who have both Muslims and Christians in their families and there is no fight.

“So, we want to appeal to our people that this is our time. I want to appeal to all our senior Pastors and General Overseers to help talk to their followers. We politicians can only do little. This is our time, please don’t be angry.”

Earlier, the Founder, The Sword of the Spirit Ministries, who is also the President, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Francis Wale Oke, specially appreciated God for His good works and the journey so far.

  • Gov Akeredolu turns evangelist, says I’m a child of God’s miracle

Gov Akeredolu turns evangelist, says I’m a child of God’s miracle

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Thursday turned into an evangelist at the Global Crusade of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry in Ondo town.

The Governor led members of the State Executive Council including the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu; the Head of Service, Pastor Kayode Ogundele and Commissioners as well as Special Advisers to the crusade.

Governor Akeredolu appreciated the Founder and General Superintendent of the Church, Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, who is also the convener of Global Crusade with Kumuyi (GCK) for the invitation extended to him and the warm reception.

The six days crusade titled “Triumphant Power” is holding at the Ondo Anglican Grammar School, Along Ife Road, Ondo, between Thursday, August 25 to Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

In his remarks, Arakunrin Akeredolu said he chose to attend the crusade not really as a Governor but as a Son of God who has come to praise God.

While charging the congregation to thank God for the gift of life, the Governor said he is a strong believer in the God Almighty.

Governor Akeredolu described himself as a Miracle Child, adding that those who do not believe in Miracle would not believe in his success story, particularly on his first victory as the Governor of the State.

He said:”We are talking about Triumphant Power of the Son of righteousness. All of us know who the Son of righteousness is. I can not preach to you. I can only say that I am a strong believer in my Lord Jesus Christ.

“I have said it over and over to those of you who are from Ondo state. I am a miracle child. I have confessed it severally. And I said to people, my first election here, not the one I lost, the second one that I won. I have said to people and I said over and over again. If you don’t believe in miracle, you will not believe my success at that election.

“We did it without the support of anybody except God. There is no way I will hear of such a crusade like this , in a state where God has put me as a chief servant, that I will not come. I am here, not really as a Governor, but as a son of God. I am here to praise my father.”

The convener of GCK, Pastor William Kumuyi, who delivered his sermon on “Triumphant Power of the Son of Righteousness”, admonished christians to always believe and put their trust in God.

He noted that “the Son, our redeemer is mighty to save,” hence the people should rely on God who is capable of doing all things.

The man of God explained that believers are not just children of God but sons and daughters of royalty.

  • Emi lokan: This is our time, nobody is going to take it – Akeredolu

Emi lokan: This is our time, nobody is going to take it – Akeredolu

Gov Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has re-emphasised the need for the people to shun religious division and misunderstanding among individuals.

Akeredolu reiterated his position on Southern Presidency, stressing that time had come to rotate power to the South in the interest of justice, equity and fairness.

The governor disclosed this on Sunday at the Agape International Church 34th Annual Convention in Akure. The theme of the convention is: “This is my Time.”

He emphasised that the people had always lived together in harmony in spite of their religion differences in the past.

According to him, we have very interesting coincidence here. Today, we have Her Excellency Omolewa, Wife of former Governor of Kwara State here.

“I have known her to be a true Christian, very true one, leading the altar in her home, in a home where the husband is also a true Muslim. And they are all living together peacefully.

“There are many people here that have both Muslims and Christians as family members and there is no quarrel. Religion should not bring quarrel among us and that is where we stand.

“What we believe and stand by is that since we started this Republic in 1999, we have been rotating power from North to South, and for us, by that rotation, this is the time of South.

“This is our time and nobody is going to take it. ‘Awa lokan’. Wonderful theme for this time. When the theme was chosen,  I’m sure nobody was thinking about ‘Emi lokan’ or anything; but it is just by coincidence.

“God has spoken through Agape that this is our time. I thank you Agape.” the Governor added.

The governor commended the Church leadership for complying with government’s directives on the installation of CCTV device in worship centres and other public places.

Akeredolu thanked God who had made the arrest of attackers of St Francis Catholic Church Owo possible, saying it is a prayer answered.

He further urged the congregation and all residents of the state to always be security conscious and remain alert.

“Please let us be watchful and be security conscious. Our security lies in our hands. We must be alert. God will continue to protect all of us.

“Whatever government asked you to do, please comply. Have security men at your gates, have your CCTV cameras and check all new faces before allowing them into your churches.”

The governor, who warned those acting as informants to kidnappers in the state, stressed that anybody, camp or village that aids and abets kidnappers in the state would be obliterated.

The General Overseer, Agape International Church, Bishop Felix Adejumo described Governor Akeredolu as the voice of the South West who had been doing a lot to protect the poeple of Ondo State and the entire South-West region.

Arrest of Owo church attack suspects: CDS Irabor was wrong on Idris Ojo – Akeredolu

The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu has clarified that the announcement of the arrest of Idris Ojo as one of the perpetrators of the June 5 attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owo was a mix up on the part of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Governor Akeredolu made the clarification on Wednesday following a fact check publication made by this medium on the Chief of Defense Staff’s misleading claims on the Owo church attack ‘suspect’, Idri Ojo.

Akeredolu, shortly after TNG published the fact check, in a statement released by Richard Olatunde, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, clarified that the mix up, saying Ojo was arrested in his brother’s house in Akure and was thereafter moved and kept in the custody of the security operatives at the same time the attackers of Owo Catholic Church were arrested and brought into custody.

“The announcement of the arrest of Idris Ojo as one of the perpetrators of the June 5 attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owo was a mix up from the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor.

“Idris Ojo, who is number 14 on the wanted list of the Kuje Prison Escapees was arrested in his brother’s house in Akure. His brother, Jimoh Rasheed Ibrahim, received and accommodated him after his escape from Kuje prison.

“He was thereafter moved and kept in the custody of the security operatives at the same time the attackers of Owo Catholic Church were arrested and brought into custody. Hence, the mix up.” The Governor said.

TNG reports General Irabor had during a media parley announced that a joint operation between the Nigerian Army, Department of State Security (DSS), Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other intelligence agencies arrested some suspected masterminds of the Owo Catholic Church attack.

The Chief of Defence Staff gave the names of those arrested as Ojo, whose involvement is now clarified, and four others, Idris Omeiza (otherwise known as Ibn Malik), Momoh Abubakar, Aliyu Itopa and Auwal Onimisi, who Irabor said were all arrested on August 4 at Eika in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.
