    RTEAN suspends Secretary General

The National Executive Council (NEC) of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has unanimously resolved to suspend Mr Yusuf Adeniyi from office as Secretary General with immediate effect.

The association’s Deputy National President Administration, Amb. Muhammad Bishara, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

“The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) wishes to inform its members, stakeholders, and the general public that an Emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting was convened on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at its National Secretariat.

“The emergency meeting was in accordance with the Association’s constitution and commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity in leadership.

“It was presided over by the Deputy National President (Administration), Muhammad Abu Bakr Bishara, following due authorisation in accordance with the Association’s operational guidelines.”

He said that during the meeting, the NEC deliberated extensively on matters concerning the conduct of the Secretary- General, Adeniyi.

“After reviewing available reports and hearing submissions from relevant parties, the council resolved that Mr Adeneyi’s actions constituted misconduct and a breach of trust.

“In line with the Association’s constitutional provisions, and in the best interest of preserving the credibility and unity of the organisation, the NEC unanimously resolved to suspend Mr Yusuf Adeniyi from office as Secretary-General with immediate effect, pending the outcome of a thorough investigation.”

Bishara further said that the NEC constituted a seven-member Investigative Committee to examine all allegations and circumstances surrounding the matter.

He said that the committee is chaired by Dr  Samuel Agbede, while Mr Adamu jalaluddeen as secretary and is mandated to submit its findings and recommendations within two months.

Bishara assured all members of the association and the public of its unwavering commitment to due process, fairness, and justice in handling the matter.

He added that the association remains focused on its primary mission of promoting the welfare of its members and advancing the growth of the road transport sector in Nigeria.

In a swift reaction, Mr Adeniyi, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) denied the allegations, adding that he has not been served with any letter of suspension on alleged misconduct.

He said, ” I am the National Secretary-General of the Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and till this moment as I’m speaking with you I have not been served with any letter of suspension whatsoever.

“The fact of the matter is that there was a case between us and before the judgement, I advised that we should reconcile and send our terms of settlement to the court as  consent judgement.

“And my people refused and when they refused the Appeal Court proceeded and when the verdict of the appeal court came they lost the case.

“When they lost the case I tried to reach out to the other parties so that the reconciliation effort I made before can be use to reconcile the parties, so that all of us can work together.

“Even if we win or we lose, we are all members.  It is all about interest and we should be able to work together, ” he said.

He, however, said that about four or five days ago,  the Deputy President of the association in charge of administration, met him in the office and dragged him out of the office.

“The following day I went they said that I have no access to the office.  That is all that I know. I don’t even know my offense and nobody has called me either through the electronic or print system or served me with any letter of  suspension. All I know is that they denied me access to my office,” Adeyini.

  • Lagos lifts suspension on road transport association activities

Lagos lifts suspension on road transport association activities

The Lagos State Government has lifted the ban on activities of Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Sola Giwa said this in a statement on Monday.

Giwa said the suspension was in furtherance of the state’s quest to foster peace and smooth working relationship among union members in its transportation sector.

“Government took the decision after careful consideration and extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders, including members of the association, Trade Union Congress, (TUC) and the general public.

“Also, the Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators’ Committee which was set up to manage parks and garage facilities in the state,  has been dissolved with immediate effect,” he said.

He explained that the decision was made in the best interest of promoting unity and peaceful co-existence, ensuring the smooth operation of transport services within the state.

He added that it would help foster a more collaborative relationship between the government and the transport union, ultimately leading to improved services for the public.

The special adviser urged all parties involved to adhere strictly to the terms and conditions of the settlement reached for peaceful and sustainable operations in the transportation sector.

He also implored them to cooperate and work together toward building a better transportation system to benefit all Lagos state residents.

The state government suspended the activities of RTEAN on September 2022 and constituted a caretaker committee to oversee affairs of the union.

  • Proscription: Stop your illegality – RTEAN tells Sanwo-Olu

Proscription: Stop your illegality – RTEAN tells Sanwo-Olu

The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) says continuous proscription of the union operations by the Lagos State Government in spite of court order prohibiting such action leaves much to be desired.

The National President, RTEAN, Alhaji Musa Mohammed, made this remark while speaking to newsmen after a one-day peaceful protest by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Monday in Ikeja.

RTEAN is a trade union registered under the Trade Unions Act. Cap T 14 Laws of the Federation 2004, a Federal Enactment and affiliate of TUC.

The National Industrial Court sitting in Lagos in April nullified the appointment of an ad-hoc committee put in place by Gov Babajide Sanwo-Olu to run the affairs of RTEAN in the state and reinstated the union’s elected leadership.

Mohammed said that despite the order which invalidated the state government’s action against the union’s operations, the government was yet to lift its ban on the union’s activities.

According to him, pockets of crisis, which necessitated the proscription, were instigated by a group of backdoor power-seekers within the union.

“It is unfortunate that the very members who engineered and carried out the fracas are part of the people the governor appointed as members of the caretaker committee.

“We are owners of vehicles, we are not touts and that is why we went to court to seek justice and we got justice but the state government is bent on illegality.

“All we want now is for the government to end illegality by implementing the court order that has restored the operations of RTEAN in the state,” Mohammed said.

According to him, the state government is unfair to the union with its action.

He said that two out of the over 320 chapels of the association had leadership crisis and the association was resolving the issue before the proscription.

Mohammed appealed to Sanwo-Olu to unseal the association’s Lagos State office.

Meanwhile, the TUC on Monday staged a peaceful protest in Lagos, demanding implementation of the court order restoring operations of RTEAN in Lagos.

TUC, which noted that the government had no stay of execution to stop industrial pronouncement, demanded the release of seized vehicles and opening of the RTEAN’s office.

The protesters marched to the Lagos State House of Assembly, where they were received by some lawmakers, led by Mr Adedamola Kasunmu, the Deputy Majority Leader.

The President of TUC, Comrade Festus Osifo, while speaking with newsmen at the Lagos State House of Assembly during the solidarity protest with RTEAN, said that the protest became necessary as the government had failed to yield to court judgment and the request of the union on the matter.

Osifo said: “We know that trade unionism is not in the concurrent list and so a state government does not have the power to proscribe a trade union. This is absolutely the responsibility of the federal government.

“We approached the industrial court for judgement and it was clearly stated that the Lagos State Government has no right to proscribe trade unions.

“We wrote a letter to the State Governor to open the office of RTEAN, which they forcefully took over and release their vehicles, which were seized by government officials,”

Responding to the protesters, the Deputy Majority Leader, Kasunmu, who received the union on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, commended the leadership of the TUC for its peaceful protest.

Kasunmu assured protesters that their message would be forwarded to the speaker and that the TUC would hear from the leadership of the House soon.

Recall that, in Sept. 2022,, Sanwo-Olu had ordered the immediate suspension of all activities of RTEAN in the state.

The government said the suspension become necessary following some pockets of violence recorded in Ojo and Lagos Island areas of the state.

The state government, later in October, set up a 35-man ad-hoc committee, to take over activities of the Union.

The Committee known as “Lagos State Park Administrators Ad-Hoc Committee on the Operations of Commercial Road Transport Workers Activities Within Garages and Motor Parks ” was headed by Hon. Sulaiman Adeshina Raji with Bamgbose Oluseyi as Deputy Chairman.

The RTEAN subsequently instituted the suit in Oct. 2022 to challenge the Lagos State Government for dissolving the elected executives’ committee of the union in the state and appointing the ad-hoc committee.

  • LASPAGA calls TUC proposed Monday protest “needless”

LASPAGA calls TUC proposed Monday protest “needless”

The Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators (LASPAGA) has advised the Trade Union Congress (TUC) against its protest scheduled for Monday.

LASPAGA Secretary, Alhaji Abdulrahman Amusan, in a statement on Saturday in Lagos, called for the TUC to get its facts together before embarking on a “needless protest”.

TUC on Friday had threatened to shut down economic activities in Lagos State on Monday, the union said that the planned protest was due to the state government’s ban on the activities of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).

The union called out the state government was interfering in the activities of RTEAN.

Amusan advised TUC not to be dragged into the ‘stormy waters of transport union’ by former RTEAN Chairman, Alhaji Musa Mohammed, now national treasurer of TUC.

He explained that the 18th of April judgment by the National Industrial Court (NIC) did not affect the creation of LASPAGA, adding that the case was still pending at the Court of Appeal after the union filed an appeal.

“In times past, the TUC is known to be a pro-masses organisation, as its fundamental objective is to protect workers from tyranny and exploitation.

“We are surprised that some people have hijacked the union for selfish and personal gains, thereby putting the integrity of the union on the line.

“We need to state that the suspension of RTEAN was orchestrated by its members because of Mohammed’s leadership style which didn’t go down well with its members.

“The crisis at Iyana Iba then prompted the Lagos State Government to intervene to foster peace, law and order.
“We advise that the Festus Osifo-led TUC to thoroughly review its action to save the remaining respect people still have for the union and use its energy to put its own house in order,” Amusan said.

RTEAN vows to sustain working relationship with journalists

The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has vowed to sustain the good working relationship between the association and journalists in Nigeria.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports RTEAN President, Alhaji Musa Mohammed made the vow on Thursday during a visit by the leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents Chapel, FCT Council.

The visit was a sequel to the 3-day football tournament organized by the Chapel for organizations, associations and government agencies in the FCT, during which Alhaji Mohammed was a Special Guest of Honour, but was unavoidably absent.

The visit provided the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel with the opportunity to decorate the RTEAN President with his medal, present the certificate of participation to the association and a mini-trophy for RTEAN’s partnership with the Chapel.

In his remarks, Mohammed expressed gratitude to the leadership of the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel for the honour and recognition just as he promised to sustain the collaboration with the Chapel in all its activities.

“To see all of you today in our national headquarters, I am so excited. We appreciate what you do as journalists and I want to especially thank you for putting together the 3-day football tournament.

“For you to recognise RTEAN and decorate me with my medal, present the trophy and the certificate to us as your guest and partner, I am so grateful. We appreciate the honour you have given to RTEAN. We will try our best to keep the good relationship between RTEAN and the NUJ,” he said.

Earlier, Chairman of the FCT Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, who led the Chapel delegation, had hailed the RTEAN President for his commitment to peaceful co-existence among members of the association across States of the Federation.

Comrade Oyekunle commended Mohammed for his statesmanship and for choosing the path of honour and peace without resorting to violence during an impasse the Association had with the Lagos State Government.

Oyekunle urged other organizations and associations alike to emulate the RTEAN President’s exceptional and exemplary leadership style exhibited by seeking legal redress in the court of law.

Oyekunle stressed the visit was aimed at promoting strategic partnership and collaboration in many areas that would further deepen the existing relationship between the Chapel and RTEAN.

While seeking the collaboration of RTEAN for the next edition of the football tournament, Oyekunle said the association would be formally invited as a participating team.

He said “We are the executive members of Nigeria Union of Journalists FCT Correspondents Chapel.

“We are here this afternoon to pay homage to you as Special Guest of Honour in our just concluded 3-day football tournament.

“This is borne out of the cordial relationship that has existed between you and the media over the years as well as your love and support for sports development in the country.

“Your presence at the final of our tournament would have been an icing on the cake but we understand your busy schedules and engagements and we are happy to tell you that the tournament was a huge success.

“Sir, it will interest you to know that RTEAN will be formally invited to participate next year in the second edition of our tournament and we can’t wait to see the President lead the team”.

The highlight of the visit was the formal presentation of a trophy, medal and certificate of participation to the RTEAN President in recognition of his outstanding and significant contribution to the success of the tournament.

  • Do not accept to be used as thugs during elections – RTEAN

Do not accept to be used as thugs during elections – RTEAN

Ahead of the February 25th general elections in the country Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has warned its members to desist from being lobbied or used as thugs during the 2023 general elections in the country.

Similarly, the body has declared that it has not endorsed any candidate for the presidential election in the country.

President of RTEAN, Amb. Musa Muhammed Maitakobi, stated this on Monday, during the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the RTEAN’s headquarters in Abuja.

He was responding to allegations that some politicians usually arm RTEAN members to cause chaos during elections.

At the event, members of the association from the six geo-political zones and 36 states of the federation also endorsed the second-term bid of Maitakobi as president of the association.

Maitakobi stated: “Today being February 20, 2023, we have a special message to our members throughout the federation. The message is simple. Members of RTEAN, anywhere you find yourself, don’t be allowed to be used as tout or hooliganism. I know our members are law-abiding citizens and we as an association will not allow any member to involve himself in any trouble.

“If you look at our constitution, it tells us to take steps to eradicate touting, hooliganism and cultism. That is what we are trying to let the government know. A lot of things are happening in states where they suspend our operations in the country.

“The thugs and cultists have taken over our job in some states where they suspend our operations. We don’t know these thugs. They (politicians) use them for their campaigns. They are not our members. Our members are operating in line with the constitution.

“All our state chairmen and secretaries should therefore call our members and address them. They should not allow themselves to be used in any form of thuggery or crisis. We need peace in this country. I also urge all the state chairmen to corporate with the security agencies throughout the federation.”

Speaking on endorsing a candidate for the elections, he insisted that the association is neutral and would not engage in partisan politics.

“Our constitution did not tell me to have a preference among people contesting elections. Our constitution does not recognise ethnicity, religion and politics”, he stated.

On the union’s relationship with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the forthcoming elections, he explained why the association is yet to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the electoral umpire for the movement of logistics during elections

“We are vehicle owners. We are not drivers and we are representing the federal republic of Nigeria in the trade union act. We can’t go otherwise. INEC knows we are here and they know our headquarters. If they invite us, we will go and if they don’t we can’t push ourselves to INEC. If you want to know the reason why we are yet to sign an MoU, it is better to communicate with the INEC chairman and ask him why he didn’t invite RTEAN this year”.

Speaking, Secretary General RTEAN, Comrade Yusuf Adeniyi, said members of the association decided to pass a vote of confidence on Maitakobi because of his track record.

“We passed a vote of confidence on our national president because of his hard work and he is a good team leader. Right from when he served as the state chairman for our Lagos state chapter, he has made our association proud. He is one of the best leaders we ever had in the union and therefore, we are passing a vote of confidence on his leadership and that he should be our sole presidential candidate during our next Congress in April.”

Many injured as transport union’s clash disrupt annual festival in Ogun state

The Itori area of of Ewekoro Local Government in Ogun state was thrown into pandemonium when rival transport union members clashed in the state.

It was gathered that  the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria ( RTEAN), and their rival union group known as Park Management (OGSPAM) and those of the newly approved Ogun State Operations Management Service (OSOMS) were involved in an argument that later degenerated into a a big fights resulting into firing shots and using other weapons.

Findings show that the rival union groups met at Itori day, a yearly festival organized by the Olu of Itori, Oba Fatai Akamo and chose to use the occasion to flex muscles.

According to reports from eyewitnesses, some of the union leaders sustained serious bullet and matchette injuries in the melee, which disrupted the festival for hours, even with Governor Dapo Abiodun and other government functionaries in attendance.

It was said that while some leaders of the unions sustained varying degrees of injuries, those with metaphysical powers proved their mettle by escaping unscathed.

According to the eyewitnesses, the Chairman of the RTEAN in Ogun, Akibu Titilayo, popularly known as Efele and others were attacked in the fracas.

It was gathered that issues about ticketing, especially as it has to do with the newly created union, OSOMS, had triggered the chaos.

Sources told newsmen that the Chairman of OGSPAM, Akeem Abodunrin (aka Iyeru) and his members were not pleased with the new union, which Efele is in support of, being an Ijebu man.

“At least four persons sustained injuries in that riot,” a source told our correspondent anonymously.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi,  confirmed the incident but assured that his men would try to look into the matter and bring perpetrators to book.

Although, he claimed that the police has not arrested anyone but promised that those behind it will not be spared.

Though Oyeyemi said the police could not pinpoint those behind the incident, he agreed that they were transport union members in the State.

“It is true there was a riot at Itori Day yesterday, though we didn’t record any casualty. They hoodlums fought one another and went away immediately. But we are on their trail. Because we will not allow these hoodlums to be taking us for granted, we will not!

“One, this is a festive period; second, the election is fast approaching. So, we should not allow some group of thugs to be carrying out thuggery and brigandage in Ogun State. We have sounded that note of warning. All those who perpetrated that crime yesterday, we are on their trail and we will get them.

“We were told they were transport union members, even though we cannot pinpoint anybody. The actual cause of that crisis is what we want to find out and we are going to lay our hands on those who were involved in it,” Oyeyemi threatened.

  • One of Nigeria’s largest markets, Alaba International shut down over activities of RTEAN members

One of Nigeria’s largest markets, Alaba International shut down over activities of RTEAN members

One of the five largest Nigerian markets, Alaba International Market, has been shut down by the market traders association following a clash between traders and hoodlums, under the auspices of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) on Wednesday.

The RTEAN members were accused of extorting traders in the market, which sparked a collective condemnation by the marketers.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the Amalgamated Traders Association Council of Sectional Heads called on Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene in the crisis at the market located in the Ojo area of the state.

In their words: “The Alaba international market traders association have decided to shut down the entire market till further notice to avoid further loss of live and property and will remain shut till these criminals are arrested and brought to justice.”

At a press briefing on Thursday, Mr. Mbonu Udochukwu Geoffrey, President General, Alaba Amalgamated Traders Association, said the threat to the security of lives and property at the Alaba market calls for national concern as the market contributes “a sizable amount of revenue to the federal and state coffers through their unquantifiable international and local trade.”

One of Nigeria's largest markets, Alaba International shut down over activities of RTEAN members

They added: “It will therefore be unwise to allow non-state actors like the operators of RTEAN/ PARK ADMINISTRATION to short change this national and state asset which houses several thousands of BIG, MEDIUM and SMALL businesses.

“Suffice it to also mention that traders are now vacating the market in droves as the complete blockage of the only Alaba road and the extreme extortion going on especially between Volkswagen bus stop and Alaba market is becoming so unbearable as traders are made to pay a fully cleared container or a truck a whooping sum of N70,000 to N100,000 before they can be allowed to convey their goods to the market; it is the same for those supplying goods from their warehouses.

“For traders who cannot afford or who hesitate to pay are either beaten up or wounded. Sadly enough, only yesterday (Wednesday) we woke up to the information that a new loading point was to be instituted on the already constricted Alaba road which has already been taken over by petty traders who were given portions to display wares to the detriment of existing shop owners, also completely defacing this market of international repute.

“To ensure this issue was handled amicably, the Alaba amalgamated leaders quickly contacted the executive chairman of Ojo local government who promised to call them to order, we also contacted the interim caretaker committee chairman who also promised to call them to order but surprisingly on Tuesday the 19TH of October we were greeted with chaos in our market as hoodlums that we cannot quantify trooped into the market with guns, machete and other dangerous weapons; shooting and maiming both buyers and traders who are doing their legitimate business to the extent that some were killed and several other wounded.

“To this end we want to say enough is enough! We appeal to the executive governor of Lagos state his excellency Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to intervene in this matter before it degenerates into a serious security issue- God forbid. The Alaba international market traders association have decided to shut down the entire market till further notice to avoid further loss of live and property and will remain shut till: these criminals are arrested and brought to justice; the removal of all kiosk/petty traders causing blockade along Alaba international market road; that all toll collection point will be at Volkswagen bus stop and chemists bus stop; the reduction in outrageous fees collected from containers, trucks and other vehicles.”

The traders thanked the executive chairman of Ojo Local Government and the security personnel who responded swiftly to the crisis in the market.

Recall that Governor Sanwo-Olu had suspended all activities of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria in the state.

This was made known by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa.

He noted that the suspension has become imperative following some pockets of violence recorded in Ojo and Lagos Island on Wednesday, adding that a 35- Man Caretaker Committee has been constituted to take over activities of the union “henceforth”.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has suspended all activities of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria in the state and appoints a 35-man caretaker committee.

This was made known by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, on Thursday.

He noted that the suspension has become imperative following some pockets of violence recorded in Ojo and Lagos Island on Wednesday, adding that a 35- Man Caretaker Committee has been constituted to take over activities of the union henceforth.

“In a bid to fulfill one of the cardinal objectives of the T.H.E.M.E.S developmental agenda of the present administration in Lagos State as it relates to Security and Good Governance, under Traffic Management and Transportation, the Lagos State Government has suspended all activities of RTEAN with immediate effect,” Giwa said.

TheNewsGuru.com recalls that on Wednesday two persons were feared killed during a clash involving factional members of RTEAN in the Iyana Iba and Lagos Island areas of Lagos State.

During the clash on Wednesday, the transport union members were seen in a trending video clip engaging themselves in a free-for-all.

In the video clip seen on social media, the transport union workers were seen fighting themselves with stones, bottles, cutlasses, and other dangerous weapons.

Meanwhile. RTEAN said it has suspended one of its Lagos State Vice-Chairmen, Oluwaseyi Bamgbose, popularly known as ‘Student,’ for instigating unrest in the association.

RTEAN National President, Musa Muhammed, announced this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos through the National Publicity Secretary of the union, Abdulrahman Amusan.

    Alhaji (Dr) Musa Muhammed

The move came a day after different groups within RTEAN clashed in Lagos, leaving several people injured.

Muhammed, also the Lagos State Chairman of RTEAN, said Mr Bamgbose’s recent moves and actions were capable of instigating violence in the Lagos State Council of the association.

He said Bamgbose had on Wednesday organized an illegal protest at the Alausa Secretariat with some disgruntled elements in his efforts to create violence and unrest in the association.

According to him, Bamgbose’s intention was to cause trouble so that the state government would regard the association as uncoordinated and subsequently placed a ban on its activities.

“While (Bamgbose) was organising a protest in Ikeja yesterday, another clash instigated by him was going on at Iyana Iba in the Ojo area so that government would think we are fighting and then take over our operations.

“Bamgbose wants to create an impression that all is not well in the association.

“RTEAN has taken decisive action against him, he has been put on suspension in accordance with the association’s rules and regulations.

“The union is a discipline organisation and will never tolerate or condone any act of violence, especially during this campaign period and elections that are coming. The union cannot afford any act of violence,” Muhammed said.

RTEAN National President asserted that his tenure is still running as the duly elected chairman of the state council and is loved by the majority of members.

He said there was a process to become an officer in the association and anyone who has any aspiration or ambition should wait and follow the due process instead of resorting to violence.

  • Why we fought with MC Oluomo’s NURTW boys at Obalende – RTEAN

Why we fought with MC Oluomo’s NURTW boys at Obalende – RTEAN

The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in Lagos has called on the state government to urgently intervene in the fracas between it and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

Some members of NURTW and RTEAN had on Thursday morning at Obalende Motor Park on Lagos Island, engaged in a free-for-all over control of the garage.

    The police later restored normalcy.

The state NURTW Chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (aka MC Oluomo), claimed that the fight occurred because members of RTEAN attacked NURTW members in a bid to take over the motor park.

But the Publicity Secretary of RTEAN, Alhaji Abdulrahman Amusan, told journalists on Thursday in Lagos claimed that the fight occurred because members of NURTW attempted to dislodge members of his union from their area of operations at Obalende.

“We want the Lagos State Government to, as a matter of urgency, intervene in the matter. We are for peace, we have been working in Obalende for many years without any problem.

“We are owners, we are not touts, we love and cherish peace. We want our members to maintain peace and ensure law and order no matter the provocations,” the RTEAN spokesman said.

He claimed that the fight occurred because members of NURTW attempted to dislodge RTEAN members from their area of operations at Obalende.

According to him, RTEAN members resisted the attempt and it resulted in the fight.

“We have been working at Obalende for long. All of a sudden, on Monday, members of the NURTW encroached into the area of operations of RTEAN.

“This morning when they came, they met with resistance from our members there, and that led to the fracas.

“We had been co-existing for so many years,”
