    Shocker! I wrote Aye for Davido – Runtown

    Nigerian singer, Runtown has averred that he wrote and produced ‘Aye’for Davido.

    The 31-year-old made this statement in a tweet after a fan asked him who wrote the song on Wednesday.

    He also said there is nothing wrong in an artiste using song writers.

    “I wrote it. And also co-produced it. Nothing wrong in using song writers if you write song for me and I like am I go sing am,” he said.

    TheNewsGuru recalls that Davido had in March told DJ ECool during an Instagram Live chat that Runtown wrote ‘Aye’.

    In times past artistes like Peruzzi, Adekunle Gold, Teni and others had written songs for the self-proclaimed ‘OBO’.

    Peruzzi wrote ‘Assurance’ for Davido, while Adekunle Gold and Teni wrote ‘1 mill’ and ‘Like Dat’ for him respectively.

    Davido is one pop star who doesn’t hide the fact that he employs the expertise of songwriters. He gives credits via social media, publicly declaring that music for him is a business, and he employs people to help complement his efforts with their writing.

    A 23-year-old Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka student, Dare Williams, detained for snatching a vehicle from a hailing service driver has said he committed the crime because he was desperate to feature either Davido or Runtown.

    Williams, who said he is a music artist, enticed his friend, Bethel Chukwuocha, 18, to snatch a Toyota Corolla car from the driver, Clement Aniegbe, on Monday night.

    Armed with a kitchen knife, the suspects who ordered a ride from Lekki to Gbagada said they threatened the driver with the weapon and tranquilizers to abandon the vehicle and his mobile phone.

    Williams revealed that his plan was to sell the vehicle for a million naira so he would raise the money he needed to advance his music career.

    He told reporters that he resorted to robbery after going round for help but got none.

    Parading the suspects, Commissioner of Police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu said: “They used knife and some substances suspected to sedatives to weaken the victim. The suspects claim to be students of the Federal College of Education, Yaba-Lagos.

    “The suspected were arrested by police detectives attached to Sabo Police Station, Lagos State, on Tuesday, December 22, at Sabo while on their routine patrol. The detectives recovered the car and the knife used for the operation from them.

    “The case is under investigation and will be transferred to the State CID for further investigation.”

    Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana recently stated that ever since he started protesting in his first year in the University, he has never witnessed the kind of commitment exhibited by Nigerians in the #ENDSARS protests.

    “I have never witnessed the level of commitment and determination exhibited by Nigerians in the ongoing #EndSARS protests. Notwithstanding, the attacks on the protesters by sponsored lumpen elements and reckless killings by some misguided armed police personnel the youths have remained focused in the agitation to end police brutality in the country”, he stated.

    Several Nigerians will not forget in a hurry Tuesday 20th of October 2020, how security operatives allegedly opened fire on demonstrators at the Lekki (Lagos) tollgate . Certain Nigerian celebrities and influencers were in the fore front of the protests. TheNewsGuru takes a look at some of these personalities.

    Runtown

    Many Nigerians were stunned when Runtown decided that he would be joining the #ENDSARS protest. The ‘Mad Over You’ crooner mobilized his fans to be part of the protest via his social media platforms. He said:” We are not backing down and we will never be silenced, after curfew, we move”.

     

    Mr Macaroni

    Nigerian actor and skit maker, Debo Adebayo, aka Mr. Macaroni, played a huge role in the #ENDSARS protest. The entertainer fondly called Mr Macaroni showed the activism part of him many never knew existed.

    According to him: “Since the very first day I stepped out into the streets up till yesterday even before leaving Alausa, I have been threatened severally. I don’t tweet about them because it is normal in protests. I am safe presently but I am being threatened!! No be fear!! Na Awareness!!!!

    “Like I said yesterday, for now, the only option we have is to stay safe!! The government has shown that they will stop at nothing to intimidate, silence, threaten and kill us!!! The same government that should be protecting us is killing us!!!”.

    DJ Switch

    The multi-talented Obianuju Udeh, popularly known as DJ Switch, exhibited a rare boldness and strength during the heat of the #ENDSARS protests.

    The disc jockey was present at the Lekki tollgate as soldiers allegedly shot at protesters .Throughout the killing, Switch was ‘live’ on Instagram as she showed to the world what was happening in real time at the scene.

    Few days after the sad incident, Switch shared a video on her Instagram page recounting what truly transpired at toll gate.

    “Thank you for joining the struggle and for alerting the public. I have not been able to say anything since because I didn’t realize I sustained some injuries. I want to thank a few people who at the risk of their own safety came out to get me, as my own life was being threatened.DJ Obi, DJ Big N and Mr P and others.My life was being threatened for speaking up. I want to say to the government, do not insult the grief of Nigerians, do not insult the intelligence of Nigerians.45 minute after the soldiers left, SARS people we are talking about also came. The military were there, killing Nigerian citizens on Nigerian soil”, she revealed.

     

     

    Toyin Abraham

    Actress and filmmaker, Toyin Abraham who is fasting becoming voice of the voiceless was lso part of the celebrities that put their weight behind the #EndSARS protests.

    The versatile role interpreter was actively involved in Ibadan (Oyo State) and Lagos protests. She wrote on Instagram, “I am more than my movies. I am an instrument for change and a destiny implementer. You can do this. Love you all.”

     

    Ruggedman

    Popular rapper and activist, Micheal Ugochukwu a.k.a Ruggedman before the #ENDSARS protest has been in the fore front of eradicating police brutality. ‘Ruggedy Baba’ as he is fondly called was part of the Lagos #ENDSARS Lagos protest.

    He said: “Nigerian government is killing innocent citizens who are asking them to do their jobs.
    As in provide a better life for the nation.

    What will the governor and other politicians come to tell us tomorrow?
    What lies will they try to tell us to justify this genocide carried out on innocent Nigerians?

    God will punish everybody who has a hand in this”.

    BREAKING: Falz, Runtown team up to lead #EndSARS protests in Lagos [Photos/Video]

    Popular Nigerian entertainers, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, and Runtown are leading a protest in Lagos against police brutality and extortion.

    The protest took place in the Lekki area of Lagos on Thursday.

    During the protest, youths were seen carrying placards and chanting #EndSARS.

    Inscriptions on some of the placards read, ‘Enough is Enough’ and ‘We are all victims’.

    Both Falz and Runtown counselled the protesters not to be violent as they engaged security operatives who attempted to disrupt the protest.

    In an Instagram live chat before the protest, Falz, son of human rights activist, Femi Falana, said, “No backing down. We move. The police are already there, waiting for us but we are not here to cause trouble. It is a peaceful protest. Coming through.”

    The protesters, who gathered at Lekki toll gate, are marching to Onikan and Appeal Court through the Nigerian Law School, Lagos.

    The protesters are seeking the dissolution of the FSARS unit of the Nigeria Police Force.

    They also complained about the rate of unemployment in the country.

    There had been an earlier announcement that the #ENDSARS protest would be held across Lagos for three days, starting from Wednesday.

    Police disperse, assault protesters

    Meanwhile, reports have it that the protesters have been dispersed.

    While dispersing them, the policemen seized their placards and allegedly assaulted some of the protesters.

    The protest, which kicked-off on Wednesday in Ikeja, was extended to Lekki toll gate opposite Oriental Hotel.

    Runtown, Naira Marley, Falz have joined the growing list of celebrities that have called for protest over the alleged killings and brutality of citizens by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

    TheNewsGuru recalls that on Saturday, videos had surfaced on Twitter showing a witness who claimed a young man, who was commuting in the Ugheli town of Delta state, was gunned down by SARS officials.

    This had sparked public uproar against the police department, with the ‘EndSARS’ hashtag dominating on social media platforms.

    Joining other celebrities, Falz expressed his disappointment, saying the president was yet to address the violence being meted out to citizens.

    “Makes me sick to my stomach, that till now, we are still waiting for a single word from our so-called president on this SARS menace. Ready to enter the streets,” the musician wrote.

    “By far the MOST insensitive government ever in our history. Unbelievable. Just always so absent.

    “Been ready since. We have to move in numbers. They cannot kill everybody. Why we dey fear to protest? They may kill us? Are they not killing us already?? I’m every way possible!!!”

    In the same vein, Runtown said he is volunteering to lead a protest against police brutality and harassment at the Lekki toll gate on October 8.

    “This has gone long enough and now we MUST take action! I’ll be leading a protest to #ENDSARS on Thursday, October 8th 2020. They MUST listen to us, they MUST make/effect REAL and VISIBLE changes! Empty promises won’t work this time!!!,” Runtown wrote.

    Naira Marley also took to Twitter to say that he can lead the protest against operatives of SARS but is convinced he might be sent to Kirikiri prison.

    Popular media personality, Toke Makinwa, called on both the president and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos governor, to not just change but scrap the police unit.

    “The youth of this country are tired. Like we don’t already have enough to worry about, you add police brutality. When we cry out it falls on deaf ears, why can’t the government hear us,” she said.

    “The same youth who add so much to our economy; who look beyond the government for a better life. The same youths that have decided to stay hopeful regardless of how our leaders abuse us.

    “Please we are tired, it’s not a curse to be Nigerian. We are tired of ‘one day it go better’, we are tired of all your promises for a better Nigeria, our tired is tired.

    “You can’t keep quiet while our young ones suffer in the hands of those who are meant to protect them, @mbuhari @jidesanwoolu. We don’t want a reformed #Sars.

    “We are not asking you to appeal to #Sars, end it. We don’t want illegal checkpoint or forcefully bullying our brothers, they have families who live in fear daily, #EndSarsBrutality #EndSars

    “People outside look at you and think it’s so cool to be Nigerian. Yet your heart aches each time ’cause you know the real meaning of being Nigerian. No change, just empty promises…”

     

    On his part, Olamide CEO of YBNL records, also noted that the use of the ‘EndSARS’ hashtag has become tiring.

    “Police brutality is skyrocketing by the day And the Nigerian government is neither deaf nor blind, they see all the trends and tag along with whichever one they like,” he wrote.

    “You don’t have to like this one to do the right thing. Hashtags are becoming tiring. The people are sick of it. The greatest patriotism is to tell your country when it is behaving foolishly, viciously.

    “This is not the time to point fingers, who the fuck is protesting, and who is not. It’s time to collectively stop fighting each other and demand good governance.

    “Nobody deserves to killed for nothing by the people that are meant to protect them. Don’t ignore people when they need you and come back talking about the people being the problem of Nigeria.”

    Popular singer, Runtown has revealed that he got a COVID-19 stimulus payment from the US government despite the entry ban the country placed on him.

     

    As the COVID-19 pandemic lingers , global leaders have continued to rethink measures to cushion the economic impact of the crisis.

     

    TheNewsGuru recalls that President Donald Trump had signed the historic $2.2 trillion emergency relief package into law, with cheques of up to $1,200 to be handed out to affected Americans not considered dependent.
    The stimulus plan is reported to come with boosted unemployment insurance, single payments to persons, loans, healthcare funding, and grants to companies targeted at discouraging layoffs.
    Runtown, who had been banned from entering the United States in 2018, took to his Twitter page on Thursday to assure fans that he would share his package with them.

     

    “Got stimulus payment from the US. Will share it with my friends here. Plot twist: Been banned from the US for two years now,” he wrote.

    Tonto Dikeh pledges support in fight against coronavirus

    Nigerian celebrity and founder of the Tonto Dikeh Foundation, Tonto Dikeh, has pledged free sanitisers, face masks and hand gloves to some communities.

    Tonto announced this via her Instagram account@tontodike on Friday.

    She wrote: ”The Tonto Dikeh Foundation @t_d_foundation will be joining in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

    ”We will be giving out 1,500 free sanitisers, face masks and hand gloves to each of these communities to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

    ”We will also teach them the safety precautions to follow as stated by @WHO.”

    Dike is not the only Nigerian celebrity to join the fight against the spread of the pandemic.

    “Mad Over You” crooner, Run town, had earlier also taken to his Twitter page to reveal that he would be joining the fight against coronavirus by donating cash to his followers.

    The Nigerian music star, whose real name is Douglas Jack Agu, in a series of tweets asked fans to drop their account details so he can credit them with money to help stock up.

    In a tweet, Runtown vowed to donate ten million naira to support Nigerians as the spread of the virus is crippling economic and social activities.

    He tweeted: “There are rumours of a looming lockdown considering the rising cases of infected persons with coronavirus in the country.

    ” As at the time of this report, Nigeria has 46 confirmed cases, two discharges and one death.

    “Hope everyone is staying safe. Times are extremely tough and I am certain there are people with no money to stock up on survival essentials.

    ” I will be giving out 10 million naira to this cause. Kindly drop your account details.”

    An actress, Toyin Abraham, also revealed that she has funded a supplier with N100, 000 to give out hand sanitisers to 100 people.

    ‘Mad over you’ crooner, Runtown set Twitter abuzz when he decided to alleviate the fears of his fans by giving away ten million naira.

    The music star took to his Twitter page on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, where he tweeted about helping fans with ten million naira to help cushion the effect of the coronavirus.

    “HOPE EVERYONE IS STAYING SAFE. TIMES ARE EXTREMELY TOUGH AND I AM CERTAIN THERE ARE PEOPLE WITH NO MONEY TO STOCK UP ON SURVIVAL ESSENTIALS. WILL BE GIVING OUT 10 MILLION NAIRA TO THIS CAUSE. KINDLY DROP YOUR ACCOUNT DETAILS.” he tweeted.

    Ever since he sent the tweet, the singer has been trending on Twitter.

    Runtown reconciles with former record label boss

    ‘Mad over you’ crooner, Runtown has reconciled with his former record label boss, Dilly Umenyiora.

    TheNewsGuru recalls that Runtown and Ericmany record label were involved in a vicious legal battle which dealt a great blow on Runtown’s music career.

    While Dilly sued the singer over breach of contract, Runtown counter-sued and claimed he was being victimised by the entrepreneur.

    All is now well with both parties as Runtown took to his social media accounts to tender an apology.

    In the message he shared on his twitter account, the singer revealed that he said ‘a few things in anger’ towards his former record label boss, adding that he deeply regrets them.

    Afro-pop star, Runtown has reacted to the Federal Government’s ban on the manufacturing of small bottles of ‘Sniper’, an agro-chemical that has increasingly become a choice killer for persons contemplating suicide.

    The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control said the ban became necessary because of the recent wave of suicide cases across the country linked to the consumption of Sniper.

    Reacting to the ban, ‘Mad over you’ crooner, Runtown said banning sniper only tackles how people commit suicide, not why people commit suicide.

    He wrote on Twitter:”Banning Sniper only tackles HOW people commit suicide not WHY people commit suicide. It’s like going to dry up the Lagos Lagoon because people use it as a tool for committing suicide. To truly curb this epidemic, we must focus on the reason WHY people do it”.
