EU condemns Russian escalation of war against Ukraine

The European Union (EU) has accused Russia of further escalating war against Ukraine. The EU made the accusation in a statement on Friday.

“This week marks another escalation in Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine with increasingly indiscriminate and bloody shelling of civilian areas,’’ the spokesman for EU Foreign Affairs Chief Josep Borrell said in Brussels.

He cited missile and drone attacks on Odessa and Kiev as examples in addition to a large supermarket, a railway station and a petrol station hit with heavy artillery in the Kherson Region.

“The latest of these Russia’s barbarities killed over 20 people and injured almost 50 in Kherson, all of them civilians.

“This reckless killing of civilians and destruction of civilian infrastructure must stop immediately,’’ the spokesman said.

He said that the EU remained committed to holding the perpetrators accountable.

  • Nigeria buys ice cream in Russia

Nigeria buys ice cream in Russia

Two batches of ice cream from Russian producers were sent to Nigeria, the corresponding permission was issued by the interregional department of Rosselkhoznadzor of Russia, the press service of the agency reported on December 3.

Russia is one of the main suppliers of agricultural products in the world. And this is not just because Russian farmers do not use pesticides to cultivate plants.

Carcinogenic and mutagenic properties of herbicides and pesticides have long been known, but many countries continue to use them and export products, including to African countries. The use of chemicals in agriculture is related to the desire to increase the yield of the land. That is, the area of the country is inextricably linked not only to the quantity but also to the quality of products grown on its land.

As you know, Russia is the largest country in the world by area. Countless fields, rivers, moderate climate, all this makes the soil fertile in this country. Therefore, agricultural products grown in Russia do not need to use pesticides and herbicides that are hazardous to health.

Currently, Russia is already one of the top ten food suppliers to Africa. Last year, Russia exported 14 million tons of food worth $3.2 billion to Africa. The top three commodities were wheat, sunflower oil and soybean oil.

Confectionery products are also in great demand in Uganda, where Russian chocolates «Alenka» are preferred. And in Nigeria the greatest demand is for vanilla ice cream, which accounts for two-thirds of shipments.

Since the beginning of this year, Nigeria has bought a total of 26.6 tons of «Vologda Ice Cream» produced by Vologda Ice Cream Company in Vologda, Russia. This rich high-fat ice cream has a pronounced taste of milk, which is obtained through the use of real Vologda butter and fresh milk in the recipe.

This product is produced not only for export, but also domestically it is appreciated by consumers with the highest rating. «Vologda Ice Cream» is included in the top 100 best products of Russia. And the total supply of treats to the countries of Asia and Africa for 2022 is estimated at 677.5 tons.

  • Russian hackers block Bulgarian Government Websites

Russian hackers block Bulgarian Government Websites

Russian hackers have paralysed a series of Bulgarian government websites in a large-scale cyberattack, an investigator said on Saturday.

The websites of the president, the government, key ministries and the Constitutional Court in Bulgaria were rendered inaccessible or were only able to run slowly if at all, according to official sources.

“The hacking attack came from the territory of the Russian Federation,” said the head of Bulgaria’s investigation agency, Borislav Sarafov.

“This is an attack on the Bulgarian state,” said prosecutor general, Ivan Ghev, who described it as a “serious problem.”

“As part of the European family, Bulgaria defends European values,” he said, adding that it is “normal” that this also has consequences.

Meanwhile, Bulgaria is providing Ukraine with humanitarian support as Russia continues to wage war with the country. Bulgaria is also taking in Ukrainians who are fleeing the war.

However, the cyberattack on Bulgarian institutions did not affect any content or personal data, the Ministry of Digital Affairs said, adding that the attacks had been halted.

  • Poisoned daughter of ex Russian spy discharged from British hospital-BBC declares

Yulia , daughter of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal was discharged from British hospital late on Monday and is at a safe location, the BBC reported on Tuesday.

Sergie, 66, who as a colonel in Russian military intelligence betrayed dozens of agents to Britain’s foreign spy service, was found slumped unconscious on a bench in the city of Salisbury along with Yulia on March 4.

Britain blamed Russia for the poisoning, the first known offensive use of such a nerve agent on European soil since World War Two.

Moscow denied any involvement and suggested Britain had carried out the attack to stoke anti-Russian hysteria. After weeks of no reported change in his condition, the hospital confirmed that Sergei, who had been treated under heavy sedation, was now making fast progress.

Prime Minister Theresa May said the Skripals were poisoned with Novichok, a deadly group of nerve agents developed by the Soviet military in the 1970s and 1980s.

Russia has said it does not have such nerve agents and President Vladimir Putin dismissed as nonsense the notion that Moscow would have poisoned Sergei and his 33-year-old daughter.

The attack prompted the biggest Western expulsion of Russian diplomats since the Cold War as allies in Europe and the U. S. sided with May’s view that Moscow was either responsible or had lost control of the nerve agent.

Moscow has hit back by expelling Western diplomats, questioning how Britain knows that Russia was responsible and offering its rival interpretations, including that it amounted to a plot by British secret services.

Sergei’s improvement marks the latest twist in an affair that British and Russian diplomats have variously compared with Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie mysteries.

Doctors had initially feared that the Sergei might have suffered permanent brain damage.A British judge said in March that the attack might have left them with compromised mental capacity, with an unclear effect on their long-term health.

One toxicologist said recovery in such cases was possible.

“We know that nerve agents cause a temporary but potentially lengthy effect on the brain and nervous system.

“What we also know however, is that with time the body clears the nerve agent away,” Chris Morris, a doctor at Newcastle University’s Medical Toxicology Centre, said in a statement.

Both Moscow and London have accused each other of trying to deceive the world with an array of claims, counter-claims and threats.

In a separate announcement, the U. S. imposed major sanctions on Friday against 24 Russians in one of Washington’s most aggressive moves to punish Moscow for what it called a range of “malign activity,” including alleged meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.

At a UN Security Council meeting on Thursday, Russia warned Britain that “you’re playing with fire and you’ll be sorry” over its accusations.

  • Doctors ordered to perform virginity test on underage girls

Doctors in Russia have been ordered to carry out virginity test on underage girls. The test is to be done on girls under the age of 16 to gain evidence of sexual activity in the girls.

The doctors are mandated to inform police about cases when virginity has been lost and also in cases where pregnancy or abortion has occurred.

The order was given by the Russian Investigative Committee and instructs doctors to check the “integrity of the hymen” and look for signs of damage.

This has sparked a public outcry from gynecologists and politicians alike who believe the checks will discourage young girls from seeing the doctor when they need to. In spite of the outrage, health minister Vladimir Shuldyakov said doctors must follow the order and “inform police about all cases when virginity was lost as well as about cases of pregnancies and abortions involving girls under 16 years old.”

The order is coming just months after domestic violence was partially decriminalized in the country such that domestic abusers get less punishment, thereby putting women’s rights in jeopardy.
